Contemporary Mendocino Studio

MollieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This is my 2nd time staying at this Airbnb. The property is clean. The surrounding area is peaceful and tucked away in the forest just outside of Mendocino. It’s less than a 10 minute drive to Mendocino where you can eat at some great restaurants or you can buy groceries to bring back and cook at the Airbnb. Linda is a great host and knows all the good places to eat and things to do in the surrounding area. We can’t wait to stay here again.

Water Tower in the Redwoods & Hot Tub in Mendocino

KarinRating, 5 stars1 month ago
My boyfriend and I loved our weekend trip to Mendocino and our stay in the Watertower. The bedroom accommodations were very comfortable, and the indoor hot tub was fantastic. They provided everything we forgot to bring (body wash, shampoo, conditioner, glasses, bottle opener, & silverware). The directions and check in instructions were easy to follow. My boyfriend and I are already planning another trip back to the Watertower!

Quiet Meadow Cottage by Mendocino, ocean, redwoods

DanRating, 5 starstoday
Tom's place was great for the two of us. It's very quiet and peaceful and it's in a beautiful setting. Inside it is very nice, the beds are in good condition and comfortable. Be sure to go into the garden, it's amazing especially in Spring. We love this area of the coast and we will be back to stay at Tom's again. Thanks Tom!

Mendocino Bungalow

OliviaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
One of my favorite Airbnb stays ever! I will definitely be back. The guesthouse was so comfortable and full of thoughtful touches - especially the delicious homemade sourdough and jam. The bed was seriously the comfiest I’ve ever slept on. I normally sleep a bit worse when I’m not in my own bed, but here I slept better! The setting was so tranquil and lovely, and it was a 20 minute walk from the town of Mendocino, so we had the option to walk or hop in the car for a short drive. One of my highlights was sitting in the hot tub watching the sky go dark…many thanks for a wonderful weekend!

Mendocino Coast Cliffside Cottage—Shangri-La

ElisabethRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
A stunning ocean setting with amazing views! Definitely a place to relax and unwind and we certainly hope to be back. We loved cooking in the small but well organized kitchen and having our meals by the sunset and the sounds of the ocean. The hot tub was a relaxing treat and our two doodles loved the yard . We very much liked Navarro beach and the Mendocino Headlands for walks and recommend visiting Point Cabrio Lighthouse. Gen and Sarah were great hosts and we thank them for their hospitality! Juliette's Place - Be In The Woods - Retreat

NienkeRating, 5 stars2 days ago
We loved our time at Juliette’s Place so much, we didn’t want to leave, either to explore Mendocino (which is quaint and beautiful and definitely worth seeing), or to come home! But Juliette’s is so cozy, so simple & peaceful yet imbued with personality, I would have been happy to sit by the wood stove reading, or lounging in bed, or sitting in the lush garden, for many days more. Peter was the very best of hosts—kind, hospitable, communicative, full of information about everything from walks and restaurants to check out to the history of Mendocino to birdcalls of local birds. Can’t wait to go back some time.

Tiny Cabin in the Redwoods

MathildeRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a nice stay here, it was quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for. Just a few spiderwebs on the wall behind the bed that could have been cleaned. Also, there was only one fork, one spoon, 2 knives. Otherwise everything went well!

Kona Cabin in the Redwoods

MonikaRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
Kona Cabin was the perfect place for our Pack (two humans, one doggo) to getaway on the coast. Conveniently located for easy drives to our adventures but also tucked away so we could enjoy quiet, serene solitude when it was time to rest after full days of frolicking at the beaches and walking the coastal trails. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and of good quality. There were also some lovely extra touches - the coffee selection was delightful and they left us a yummy welcome gift. The living room was spacious and even though we're not usually TV watchers, it was nice that the cabin is equipped with cable so we could catch an exciting Game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoffs! Bathroom was also well equipped as far as standards like shampoo, conditioner, soap from a local maker (another lovely touch!). Shower pressure was great and water (in all scenarios) got nice and warm/hot quickly. The bed was big and comfy. We hope to come back!

Log Cabin Chalet with Hot Tub, Sauna, & Redwoods!

AdrianRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Aurora and LeShaundra were great hosts, they are informative and responsive, which is the MOST important thing. any questions I had were answered within the hour. As for the place itself, it is how the pictures make it look. That might sound mundane, but pictures say 1000 words and can often be misleading, but their pictures are not. If you like what you see, you will love this cabin. But again, the hosts are not ones to hide anything; so when they give you instructions to find the place, please take note.

Oceanfront Home & Private Beach Access

AlexanderRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Joanna’s house was a wonderful place to stay with our family. The view is amazing, even better than the pictures, we were content to just sit and relax looking out at the ocean for most of the time. The yard was great for our dog to run around in, and the nearby beach was really fun to explore as well. We hope to return soon!

Sunny and Spacious in Private Setting

CarolRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This was our first visit to Mendocino and we will likely return again. We loved it here. The location of this rental is quiet and beautiful. While we did have to drive to get into any town - Mendocino ~10 mins, Caspar ~5 mins, For Bragg ~20 mins, and all of the parks, Russian Gulch, Jughandle (Caspar), Cabrillo Lighthouse, Van Dam and others in For Bragg are all close by. So many beautiful hikes and walks wit incredible views. And the food, great eating here. Plus a wonderful grocer in Mendocino. We loved Lauren’s place. In affront to its quiet location, and comfortably clean, there is a nice backyard, comfortable beds, games and reading material, books and magazines. And then there is the host, Lauren. She is a gem. Lauren was always in the read no matter what our question was. And then she went above and beyond when after we left and we were on our next leg of trip in SF and I could not find my passport. She was so very communicative and helpful. 5 stars!

Bright Modern Home | Ocean Side

AmyRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The Sea Ranch is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. There is so much light in the house and the windows are huge and looks out into a field where we saw fox, deer, and birds pass by the house. Barbara was also very proactive and responsive. The air bnb comes with passes that give you access to the pool and tennis court, which are really nice. We had a wonderful time!

Wow, what a gorgeous space. We loved waking up to the towering redwoods and morning sun and stargazing at night. Six of us + a dog slept comfortably and Kira was nice enough to provide some extra bedding for us. The location is A+ with all of Philo/Boonville and the coast to explore. We will be back!

Your guide to Mendocino

Welcome to Mendocino

Ruggedly beautiful Mendocino was once a logging town populated by transplanted New Englanders, and their aesthetic influence remains. This small town surrounded by redwood forests and perched on a headland ringed by the Pacific Ocean is dotted with charming Victorian-style homes with white picket fences.

While Mendocino has hung onto the architectural sensibility of its former residents, its current character is decidedly funkier. In the 1950s, artists began arriving here, and the founding of the Mendocino Art Center in 1959 cemented the place as a bustling arts colony. The town retains that bohemian nature today, which has imbued this pastoral paradise with many of the charms of urban living, sans the crowds. The Mendocino Theater Company has staged more than200 productions in its 75-seat black-box theater since its founding in 1976, and the hamlet’s streets are lined with galleries and boutiques selling upscale handicrafts. You’ll also find wine, craft cocktails, and world-class farm-to-table fare here.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Mendocino

If you’re looking forward to long scenic hikes, spring and summer boast the highest number of warm, sunny days, as well as wildflower blooms. Fall and winter can be chilly and rainy — but the cooler weather is starkly beautiful, and eminently conducive to a cozy dinner with an ocean view. Regardless of season, a warm coat is always a good idea in this coastal town. In March, Mendocino marks the return of migrating gray whales with the Mendocino Whale Festival, which includes beer and chowder tastings. In November, Feast Mendocino celebrates all things culinary, especially the region’s abundant mushrooms, and offers fungi-focused meals, exhibits, and tours.

Top things to do in Mendocino

Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Museum

This historic lighthouse first shone for sailors navigating the Mendocino coast in 1909. It is remarkable for its well-restored Fresnel lens, an enormous four-sided glass light heralded at the time of its invention for how far it could be seen at sea. You can visit the lighthouse, as well as a restored lightkeeper's residence replete with 1930s-era furnishings.

Mendocino Headlands State Park

Coastal trails with dramatic views criss-cross this 347-acre greenbelt atop dramatic bluffs, which is home to marshland, coastal scrub, redwoods, and conifers. At the foot of the cliffs lies secluded Big River Beach, accessible by vehicle via winding, two-lane Highway 1, or on foot via bluffside trails. From November through April, gray whales migrate off the Mendocino coast, and the headlands provide an ideal vantage point for spotting them.

Kelley House Museum

This museum chronicles the history of Mendocino County. Among its permanent exhibits is one devoted to the wreck of the Frolic, a 210-foot brig with a cargo of silk and other goods that ran aground off the coast of Mendocino. Included in the exhibit are artifacts salvaged from the wreck, including shards of ornately decorated dishware, a shoe, and an 1,100-pound cannon.
