Lake Kourna is an ideal destination for an afternoon walk, or a nearby excursion during the day. Many also prefer it for an afternoon picnic. The scenery is relaxing and beautiful, whether you want to walk in the nature, or ride a bike on the lake.

Cemetery of the Late Minoan Era (around 1400-1200 BC, a time when the Mycenaeans dominated the island) About 230 tombs, many of them with a corridor and chamber carved into the soft natural rock of the hill. All this in a landscape overgrown with oak trees. It's worth seeing, it's about 15 minutes from Rethymnon.

But you must realise that it is a long (5 to 7 hours) walk on rough terrain so you will need to have a certain degree of fitness and walking experience in order to enjoy it

The Neratze Mosque is a building located in the old town of Rethymno. In the past, the building was a Catholic monastery of the Augustinian order. With the conquest of Rethymno by the Ottomans, the monastery was converted into a mosque, which was known as the Mosque of Gazi Hussain Pasha or Nerazeh Mosque. After the population exchange and the departure of the Muslims from Crete in 1924, the building was turned into a conservatory.
