Traveler advice
Getting around
Walkable city!
Our city is very walkable. Download Salem Skipper app for cheap rides around town. Metro or ferry are fun ways to get into town.
Customs and culture
Ask the locals
Salem locals are friendly and love answering questions about what to do and where to go, but be extra patient and kind in October. We are a small city of 40,000 that gets overwhelmed with people. That’s the time to plan ahead and understand lines and overcrowding is the norm!
What to pack
You’ll look cute in comfort
Trust me, we all love to dress up here, but you’ll look even cuter in sensible shoes. We have OLD sidewalks, streets and cobblestones. I can’t tell you how many ankles I’ve seen get bent.
Traveling with kids
Bathrooms
Plan your bathroom trips. Public restrooms are hard to find, but there is a map online that will help here: https://www.hauntedhappenings.org/plan-share/restroom-locator/
