There are many historical items and information on show in the museum, which has recently been enlarged and modernised. Sir David Attenborough was Guest of Honour at Museum Inauguration Ceremony on 22nd September 2017.

There are many historical items and information on show in the museum, which has recently been enlarged and modernised. Sir David Attenborough was Guest of Honour at Museum Inauguration Ceremony on 22nd September 2017.
No explanation of the name exists, though a man-made construction has served as a refuge since at least 1313. Earliest known drawing, made in 1539, shows a basic shape similar to the present construction, and was built after the westerly gales breached the breakwater in 1824. There have been additions since that date but the major part of the Cobb dates from then. The Cobb was connected to the mainland in 1756 and the North Wall was built in 1823.
