Food & Shopping

There are some great places to eat out and also to get provisions to eat at home. The village shop in Chilbolton is really well stocked with fresh fruit and veg, local produce and home baked goods. It’s also a cafe from 8:30 to 15:00 Tuesday to Saturday and Sunday 8:30 to 12:00. It’s a post office and newsagent too. There is honey from the local bee keepers beside the Chilbolton Village shop. The second Sunday of each month the centre of Andover has seasonal food and drink producers as well as designers and artists with street food, drinks, workshops and music. Farmers market in Andover the third Sunday of each month March to December and in Winchester the second and last Sunday of each month 9:00 to 14:00. Andover Market is every Friday 8:30 to 13:00 in the town centre. All the main supermarkets are in Andover. Stockbridge is a beautiful Georgian shopping town with Robinson’s butchers, Becky’s green grocers, Thyme and Tide deli, a good wine shop and a bakers as well as a small coop store. There are lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from too. Longstock garden center, cafe, gift shop and food store in Longstock is owned by Waitrose and is well worth a visit. There is a lovely herbaceous border as part of the old walled garden with goods walks in the surrounding area.
This pub is closed for refurbishment following it’s sale to a local owner. Hopefully it will reopen later this year. Lovely local pub 5 minutes walk from the cottage in the center of the village. It's very old with parts dating from the 1600's.

Stockbridge is a lovely mainly Georgian town for local shopping. We recommend Robinsons butchers for deli and meat. They do some wonderful homemade frozen food too. Thyme and Tide do great bread, coffee, deli counter and fish and also have a wonderfull cafe. Becky's greengrocer has a great range of fresh fruit and veg as well as juices and icecream. The local co-op store provides all your regular shopping and is opposite Robinsons and Becky's. There are wonderful pubs, restaurants, clothes shops and art galleries to visit and the Test runs through the town.

Our local wine! The sparkling is our favourite. There is a wine shop and vineyard tours so just check out the website. They also do Friday nights at Black Chalk which can be a local produce menu or a good quality food van where people can come to eat and drink BC wine and local beers or many people take away from the van. The Indian is highly recommended by us and a favourite with locals. This is a 20 minute walk from the cottage. The owners have shares in an Argentinian vineyard and the Merlot is lovely.
