Apple picking, gorgeous farm, site for Stone Trust, where you can see many beautiful examples of uniquely crafted dry stone walls. Stone Trust, located on the property, is also a widely respected center for teaching dry stone walling. We are 1.25 miles from Scott Farm, close enough to walk via dirt road, past Rudyard Kipling's historical former Naulakha home.

This is upscale, and awesome food (though still in a comfy and relaxed setting), around $50 per entree, that would cost 2x for the same quality elsewhere. The place is quite small inside, with few tables and it's best to get a reservation. https://tjbuckleysuptowndining.com/

Surprising good selection of fresh produce during winter, often includes greens, and always many types of root veggies. Also bread, chocolate and other locally made goodies. Nice ambience, always has a local musician playing. Every Saturday 10-2.

This is 2-3 hour hike round trip, depending on which of two trails you take. Easy to medium level difficulty. The trailhead is a 5-minute drive from downtown. Cross the river into New Hampshire from Canal Street, near the corner of Main St. Take the first left after crossing the bridge, and the trailhead is about a minute away. From some high points on the trail you can see the town of Brattleboro from a lovely vantage point. Good for warm weather hiking as well as snow shoeing. https://www.trailfinder.info/trails/trail/mount-wantastiquet-state-forest

Traveler advice

What to pack

For winter hiking, bring cleats for heavy boots.

There are big and small trails all over the place. If you don't have snow or ice cleats to attach to your boots, you can buy them at Burroughs Sports downtown on Main Street.
