Food Scene

Nice atmosphere, good food. The hotel has a restaurant serving the normal fayre and then a further restaurant at the rear of the hotel which is called The Stables, it's a cool pizza and cider restaurant and is quite buzzy. Seating is on bench tables. Upstairs in the hotel you will find a cosy cocktail bar called the Venner Bar - Lloyd will serve you a lovely cosmopolitan and he's a great cocktail barman.

This is one of the latest editions to Bridport, it's a really nice restaurant serving Dim Sum and really unusual salads and noodle dishes. It has a great quality wine list and also specialises in tea. Make sure you book.

An idyllic setting in a very pretty little village on the outskirts of Bridport. Great for lunch or early evening glass of wine. They often have things going on so be sure to look at the website. www.symondsburyestate.co.uk

Drinks & Nightlife

This is Bridport's favourite pub. It's very lively on a Friday and Saturday and has two small beer gardens. Leave the house and turn right - it's at the end of the road.

This is a restaurant and bar and despite it's seemingly upmarket feel, the owners love it if you turn up with your wellies on and stop for a drink. The food is quite good although I have found it to be a bit hit and miss. go for the amazing views.

Parks & Nature

This is the place where they filmed Broadchurch. It's a lively little area with a few nice eateries. Great cliff walks although be mindful of the very steep cliff if you have a dog. I don't walk my dog off the lead on the left hand cliff bit the right han cliff which is reached by driving through West Bay following the road over the bridge and around to the left. Keep going and the road reaches a dead end. This is the start of a lovely walk.

Fantastic cliff walk here. Rather than park your car in the car park at the beach, there is a lay-by just before you turn right towards the beach. Park your car here and take the 2 minute walk to the beach from here. It avoids the heaving car park. You can also continue along the coast road and park at Cogden Beach which is much quieter and has a fabulous walk here for the dog - and humans!

Eype is a nice quiet beach for a walk. Good for dogs too.

This is one of my favourite walks. You are heading for Thorncombe Beacon. Drive from Bridport on the A35 towards Chideock, you will go through a set of lights to the recycling centre, then after about half a mile take a left hand turn towards Eype. Then take the second left and keep going straight along a narrow country lane. you will pass several houses and then the road sweeps around towards the right. A minute or so later you will see a long lay-by on the right with a hill on the left. Park here and walk up the path, it should be signposted to Thorncombe Beacon. Just beware of sheep as far as a dog goes. You must make sure you have the dog on a lead if there are sheep in the field. If you can find it, Down House Farm cafe is delightful and the food is fantastic.

Shopping

The market is on Weds and Sat. There is also a vintage quarter which you can pick some great bargains up from. Most of the furniture in our house is from the vintage market. Head for the Red Brick Cafe and the vintage shops are all around it.
