The Cocoa Farm Finca La Amistad is located near Tenorio National Park and the village of Bijagua, in the north of Costa Rica. You will love my accommodation because of cocoa and chocolate, Birdwatching, atmosphere, outdoor space, comfortable bed, Tenorio National Park and Rio Celeste. My accommodation is good for couples, solo travelers and families (with children).
Cocoa plantation, Chocolate, Bird Watching, Costa Rica rural, Natural Reservation, Vulkane Tenrio und Miravalles, Rio Celeste
Tenorio Nationalpark, Cano Negro, Horserding, Rural Costa Rica. Tropical forrests
  • This place is magical! We stayed on the farm for two days and took advantage of the free farm tour, did horseback riding to Rio Celeste, and engaged in the chocolate making tour during our stay. I really enjoyed the hammocks and rocking chairs which were conducive for great leisure reads and admiring life on the farm. Julia and the other ladies were so hospitable and made delicious meals for breakfast and dinner. Luis is so kind and knowledgeable about the cacao operation. I appreciate the other guests who recommended a 4x4 and echo their recommendations! Highly recommend a stay here! I cannot wait to return.

  • You must stay here!!! This place is spectacular! They have home cooked food on site and you never have to leave the farm. They make sure your experience is top notch and even book excursions for you. They are absolutely welcoming and will accommodate in any way they can. The cabin has no ac which is fine because won't need it. Please give this place a try, you won't regret it!

  • We loved our stay at the Cocoa farm. You can easily spend a full day here without getting bored. The farm offers a chocolate making class where you grind up the cocoa beans and make 70% dark chocolate from scratch, going through the whole process. Costs $35 per person, but very interesting and you go home with 8 bars of chocolate. Stay here for the dinner, the atmosphere is very romantic and the food delicious and plentiful. In the morning, you can go for a complimentary tour around the cocoa farm for 1.5 hours.

  • Wow! If you want to stay a night before or after the hikes to El Rio Celeste, this is the perfect place to stay. In the middle of the Cacao Farm, everyone is very nice and do everything as you can enjoy your stay as much as possible. The breakfast is included in the price of the room and it’s really a big one made its good products. You can also enjoy the Farm Tour at 8:30 in the morning, which is also included with the room, and learn how they managed the plantation and prepare the Cacao beans. You can have diner as well for 15$ per person and it’s very well appreciated since the farm is a bit far from the restaurants. The only thing is that you will need a 4x4 car and be ready to drive on damaged tracks to reach the place. Thank you to all the team for your warm welcome!

  • We had a wonderful time at the finca. Everybody was very kind and the food was delicious. Louis gave us a great tour and told us a lot about the process of making chocolate. The road is bumpy but not problematic. We went to the Blue Water of Rio Celeste which was beautiful, and a one-and-a-half hour trip to Caño Negro with a impressive boattour, spotting all kinds of birds and leguana’s, we can highly recommend this trip!

    Alfred2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a pleasant stay at the farm! The meals and breakfasts were plentiful and very good. The farm tour in the morning is a real bonus, we loved it. The farm also offers other activities at an additional cost. The road is a bit difficult to access but the place is very peaceful, well maintained and close to the Rio Celeste. We recommend this airbnb.

  • Wow, we had more than a great stay at Finca La Amistad. The place is just wonderful in an idyllic setting. We definitely recommand at least 1night with the cacaotour and chocolate making! Great moments, great memories and Perfect chocolate!

    Sarah2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Finca la Amistad. It is a working cacao farm but everything is beautifully manicured. The cabin and restaurant are built all in wood with nice detailing. The plantation looks like a garden and has lots of birds. Included is a tour of the farm where they explain you how it is grown, harvested and processed. You get to taste different kinds of chocolate too. If we hadn't planned the rest of our trip in advance we would have liked to stay longer!

  • This airbnb was so lovely! It was picture perfect and was on the loveliest farm. Wish we could’ve staid longer!

  • This heavenly cabin in the country is a magical place to stay: set among banana trees, papaya trees, sugar cane, and a working dairy farm, it forces you to slow down and take in the natural beauty of this region. Though it seems isolated, and it takes some bouncing down rough roads to get to, it's very close to Tenorio National Park and the charming town of Bijagua. Ana and her cousin went out of their way to make sure we saw all the wonders of the place, including a sloth lazing in a tree nearby. I'm so grateful for their hospitality!

    Katy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ana is a very hospitable host and offers great suggestions about the surrounding area

    Sam2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This little house is perfectly what we were looking for. Located in an incredible environment, all green and in the middle of nature, a perfect place to rest. The house inside has very good taste in terms of decoration and with everything you need. We only miss a stove to cook a little more, since there is only one electric pan and a rice cooker. In the area of the rooms it is a bit cold, we have a windy night and if it is true that it sneaks a lot. Still, there were two blankets that we used to sleep and we were very good. 100% recommended to disconnect.

    Alba2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, out in the country, with a great view of the stars at night. Clean. Nice farm area to check out around it. Inside shower with running water, although didn't get too hot. Great, helpful communicative host!

    Paul2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great and confortable night at this unique place. It was very authentic and we were touched with all the attentions. Thank you to the hosts

    Armelle2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is beautiful place to stay in, situated on a farm where you are by cows, pigs, chickens with a beautiful backdrop of two volcanoes. Inside the property was as advertised and was extremely clean with a lot of thought into the presentation. The road to the property is. Wet bumpy so be prepared if you have a town car but you can get there on if you drive slowly. Very peaceful environment with everything we needed! Ana Yancy was a perfect host.

  • This is one of the best air b&b’s we have ever stayed in! The family are so kind and thoughtful, they really went the extra mile to ensure we had the perfect stay in Bijagua. From transport tips, activity recommendations and even helping us with our laundry. We cannot thank them enough!

  • Wonderful visit to Bijagua. The room is a lovely little private space with a full bathroom and separate entrance. Very clean. Good location near sodas and the bus stop. Jorge Mario and his family were the reason my stay was so wonderful. They helped me get to Rio Celeste and showed me all the many reasons to love Bijagua. Muy buena gente.

    Melanie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Mario's parents' house is an excellent place! They are very warm and hospitable, helping us at all times and even approaching the National Park by car. We fell in love with Bijagua! Hopefully someday we can come back!

  • Just perfect. The Domaine de Jorge is a haven of peace where you can enjoy a clean and welcoming space. Special mention for the small stream that passes through its property and the deckchairs that border it. Pura Vida!

  • Beautiful house & grounds-guest rooms are super clean with private bathrooms, tea & kettle, corkscrew (which I always forget) & even a tv! Jorge is really cool & will drive you to & from Rio Celeste for cheap. Great place-I'd stay there again for sure.

  • Jorge's property is amazing, one of the most beautiful gardens you'll see in Costa Rica. The huge, covered outside area invites to enjoy the view of the yard and the refreshing creek. Jorge is super friendly and helpful. Thank you again!

  • Room and private room in a beautiful large estate, 20 minutes by car from the Tenorio volcano.

    Mathieu2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was great! The place is very cute. Jorge helped us with everything we need and was always very attentive to us. Really renting this house is like renting a whole space because you have total independence and the garden is a paradise, giant! The location is great to go to Tenorio Volcano because it is really close and very well located with respect to the center of the small town. Thank you very much Jorge! Pure Life

    Paloma2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at jorges Airbnb. His property is a real oasis and we can just recommend to stay there more than 1night to enjoy the calmness and nature on his property. The town itself remained still quite authentic so it’s also worth staying longer than just for the Rio Celeste Park (which is only 15-20min drive from Jorge). Jorge was very welcoming, helping and relaxed. The room itself is rather small , we still fit in there as a family with 1crawling baby and there is still the large porch where one can hang out during daytime. For one or two persons it would totally be enough space. If this Airbnb is free on your dates just book it- you won’t regret it!

  • Pamelas home is warm and real autentic Costa Rican home, a real experience! I got the pleasure to be there during her birthday, loved it. I can recommend it.

    Andreas2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Pamela is kind. She stayed up till 2:30AM to receive us. Through our stay, she was very thoughtful, providing us raincoats and umbrellas when it was raining, local tips, water to carry with us, etc. She even made breakfast although that was not mentioned on Airbnb. We recommend staying with the amazing host. The locality is great for visiting the Rio Celeste Waterfall - it's a 25 minute drive through paved roads. Right next to Pamela's house are supermarkets, 7-10 good restaurants, etc. ... all just within 2-3 minutes walk. Safe.

  • Margot goes above and beyond. She made us a Costa Rican breakfast and dinner, took us on a tour of her land and helped us find the blue jeans frog, arrow frog, and cafe frog, she gave us a tour of her garden and gave us fresh coconut, and shared many laughs and smiles through our conversations via google translate. Highly recommend!

  • Hello my friends, everything is amazing in Margoth's home, the kindness of Margoth, Juan José, and the animals, the magic of the river, the sound of the nice music on the other side of the road ! You can believe me if Margoth says that she will find a solution for you, be sure she will :) I definitely highly recommand this place ! ;)

  • Nice house in a quiet area. Margoth is really kind and welcoming! Great place

    Fannie2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a special place. Margoth and her family showed me exceptional Costa Rican hospitality. She cooked up the most delicious breakfasts and patiently listened to my very broken Spanish. Her cottage is the perfect place to see Costa Rica from the inside, to meet the neighbors and see the wildlife in the back yard. Katira and Upala both hold there own gems which Margoth will be happy to help you find and of course you must go to the Tenorio Volcano Park where if you are lucky you might catch a Coati peering out from the leaves beside the Rio Celeste.

  • The accommodation is really clean, warm and independent. No hot water is too bad. Some power cuts in addition to Internet breaks but short term. The hosts are very welcoming to invite you to their tables to dine with them. The house is along a river which adds a touch of extra charm. I recommend

    Laurie2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ulfran’s place is lovely! It is next to a beautiful river and lagoon and surrounded by a lush garden. The best part about our stay was the outstanding hospitality: we were welcomed with a selfmade pineapple smoothie, were asked whether we wanted to ride one of the family’s ATVs and got invited to join the family brunch the next morning for freshly made breakfast. We definitely recommend this place and hope to come back one day! :)

    Melanie2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • The stay at Ulfrans/Alonso’s home was amazing. We had a lot of space for ourself, were welcomed so nice and we could use anything in the kitchen and the beautiful house and garden. We felt really welcomed and like we were a family! Everything was clean and the place is not really far from the volcan tenorio Nationalpark, a chocolate Tour and some other things. We got local tips and the communication with ulfran and his brother Alonso (and the families) was very good! They always tried their best to make us feel good! I would totally recommend the place and hope to come back one day:)

    Emma2019-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ulfran and his family are very kind, want to share with guests and make discover the region It was a pleasure to meet them and share these 3 days with them Thank you very much for everything

  • Really a beautiful place. Renato and Tati are incredibly friendly and show how they and the locals live. They offer great tours. The cocoa tour is unique and can only be recommended. This is real ecotourism.

    Andy2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time, Tatianna is a person who likes to share, discuss. A real pleasure, we learned a lot about the country, the fauna ... Very beautiful stage of our trip !!!

    Hélène Et Édouard2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation at Renato was exactly as expected due to the description. Cano Negro is far from mass tourism and a fantastic place for a great nature experience. The room in Renato's house is simple and frugal. But that's what you expect in Cano Negro. Renato is a very accommodating host who invited us for coffee, gallo pinto and pineapple juice. He is also a great guide and knows all about the place as well as the flora and fauna! We recommend!

    Wiebke2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • A warm and authentic stay in a wonderful place. Simple lodging without much privacy reflects local life in Caño Negro. Renato was a perfect host who knows and loves his place, I learned a lot and immediately felt like I was with friends. "Caño negro experience" is also highly recommended as a tour operator! I would come back immediately!

    Maya2019-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Renato's home is a typical 'Tico' home having an unlined roof creating a hot environment at certain times of the day. This may not suit everyone. The fan in the bedroom was appreciated. There is a seperate sitting area at the front of the house which is comfortable and allows one to watch birds. Kitchen is clean with a good range of cooking utensils. It is a small intimate home - we only met Renato as Tatiana was away at the time. Renato is extremely welcoming, with an easy outgoing friendly disposition. He is knowledgeable and passionate about the Cano Nego environment and helpful, and gave us free reign of the home. If you want to spend time with an educated knowledgeable environmentalist who speaks fluent English, this is the place for you. As budget conscious nature watchers, this home was excellent.

    John2019-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Renato and Tatiana made us feel very welcome. We felt totally at ease in their home. They are genuine friendly people who are passionate about the environment and wildlife. They took us for a walk through the wetlands. They are amazing at finding and identifying birds and other wildlife. They are very knowledgeable and wetland specialists. This is more than a place to stay. They can offer tours and will make sure you make the most of your stay. The room and house are exactly as described. The bed is comfortable. Their dog is very sweet. They gave us an oatmeal drink when we arrived. Their friends came over and shared their delicious Caribbean chicken dish. They let us taste soursop and made a soursop smoothie. They were enthusiastic and we had many interesting conversations. They speak English well. Highly recommended. Even if you are not staying at their place I recommend contacting them if you are looking for a tour or a guide or you want to go birding. Cano Negro is amazing. Very scenic and one of the best birding areas in the country. We are not birders but loved the roseate spoonbills, jabirus, kingfishers, herons and countless other birds as well as the monkeys and caimans.

  • A very small farm on the slopes of the Tenorio volcano, and a tourist project (+2 huts) to support all this: Allan and his mother are at the top of the reception and know their environment on the fingertips, do not hesitate to ask them to see domestic and wild animals, plants ... And without forgetting a great breakfast!

    Emmanuel2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The communication with Allan was really easy and also the check-in was flexible. The place is located in the wild which is super cool to spot some animals directly from the accomodation and Rio Celeste is close by. Just be prepared to also meet some animals. Delicous breakfast!

    Samira2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a haven of peace, take the time to spend a few days at Allan's! No car here - just the sound of the birds and the river below! Allan is very kind and attentive; the breakfast specially prepared for us is delicious! The wooden house is very pleasant to live in; we spent a very relaxing time there! The way to the cabin is a bit difficult if you do not have an SUV but if you follow Allan's advice (come by Bijuaga!) You will get by!

    Justine2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage that reminds of the little house on the prairie. We are calm, we could observe there, birds, monkeys and a lazy! Allan is welcoming and his mother prepares a very good breakfast. I recommend this place.

    Vincent2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great cabin lost in the Costa Rican nature on the edge of a hamlet with a small typical bar. We were fortunate to see the howler monkeys right outside the cabin and the toucans passing right overhead. At night, great evening with the sound of thousands of insects, birds and especially howler monkeys! Impressive. Tenorio National Park is 5 km away. Thanks to Allan for hosting us. Thank you to his mom for the very good breakfast

    Stephanie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great one night stay! Allan was very friendly and pointed out a few monkeys. The bench outside the cabana was a nice spot to chill and listen to the river and animals in the forest. Also was a nice area to walk around and see the farm lands. Place was very clean!

    Jaimee2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very good stay at Allan's. The location is close to the Rio Celeste and very remote, it's very soothing. 4 × 4 essential to get to Allan's. The journey alone is worth the detour

    Angelique2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place close to Rio Celeste waterfall. Allan is a gracious host and even went out of his way to show us a sloth that is close to his property.

  • This place is really well located. Only 5 to 6 km to Rio Celeste. Margoth is a fantastic host. Very helpful in everything we asked for she has been amazing. There is also a lot to see on her property from beautiful birds to frogs and much more. The room is very clean and the breakfast is just typically great. We will definitely recommend and we will book again this place. Thank you.

  • Outstanding !!!!! Margoth is welcoming, incredibly kind. We asked him for a meal for the evening and we eat the best meal in Costa Rica. It was excellent. She introduced us to people and allowed us to buy cocoa from a nearby farm for less. You will learn a lot, this is what I expected when I came to her place and I got even better. I recommend for those who want to learn ticos and life in Costa Rica

  • Margoth is an amazing host! Very thoughtful! We speak only a little Spanish and we used google translate to talk together, even though it's longer she took the time, showed us around and made sure we had a good time! Thanks again!!

La Casita Azul is a simple but very authentic little wooden cabin. Our finca is located on the edge of a small village at the foot of Vulcano Tenorio in the northern part of Costa Rica. It is an idyllic place, enveloped by the rain forrest where horses are still ridden as a main way of transportation. We are mainly self sufficient. We produce cheese, yogurt and other milk products; we grow organic fruits, plenty of organic vegetables and coffee.
If you feel like spending a few days in a quiet natural place off the beaten track and away from major tourism you are welcome to visit us.
  • If you are looking for a luxurious five star resort, this isn’t it. But if you want to better understand rural Costa Rica, learn what it is like to have a minimal impact on our fragile earth, and have food from the garden, milk and cheese from the cows up the hill, and an early morning serenade from the local birds, then the Azul Casita is where you want to be. Andi and Angi were generous with their time and local knowledge, and gave me my first lesson on how to milk a cow!

    Beverly2019-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at La Casita Azul was without a doubt a true highlight of our week in CR. The sounds of wildlife and rain all around us couldn't have been more peaceful. Andi and Angi have created such a beautiful, sustainable farm space and we were honored to get to share such fresh, delicious meals with them. The casita was humble, comfortable, and in such a breathtaking location. So grateful for such hospitality and such an authentic experience truly off the beaten path. Glad to have had a 4WD vehicle to have made it up the gravel road. Already thinking about my next trip to CR with my partner and would love to stay here again for more than just a night. Thank you Andi and Angi for such a wonderful experience all around!

    Alana2019-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Andi & Angi was really great! They are so kind, helpful and have guided us with such joy in their little paradise. The food was fantastic (like home) and we would definitely stay there again. We really only recommend her and her cottage! Especially if you need a bit of distance from the fray and seek a little peace in nature.

    Hannah2019-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Most memorable Stay and breakfast during our stay in Costa Rica. If you like atypical accommodation, quiet place in full nature, authentic people and dream to experience incredible things like milking the cows, it is for you ! A big Thank you !

    Olivier2019-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Casita is a simple, small but charming azure cottage, consisting of two bedrooms, a dining / Aufhaltshaltszimmer a kitchen and a bathroom with toilet. There is water (also warm water) and electricity. There are no windows, but an intact mosquito net over our bed awaits us. Here at the edge of the small village is the Casita (and the house of the hosts) isolated. At night you only hear the animals of the forest and the farm's own dogs and chickens. In the garden of the Casita grows a mandarin tree. And a single pineapple. If you are looking for peace and seclusion, this is the place for you. Andi and Angi run a small farm with two dairy cows and produce their own dairy, bread, jam, juices, .... They are excellent cooks. And hosts! We felt very well with the two.

    Babsy2019-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • excellent breakfast with homemade products. we had a good time and enjoyed the lovely little rustic cabin. we recommend.

    Jimmy2019-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • I was not quite sure what to expect going into my stay here. However, the stay was way more then I expected. The Casita is a small 4 room cabin with a 2 bedrooms, small main room and a small kitchen/sink area with attached bathroom. Lots of space by myself, but even with 3 guests would be plenty of space. Andi & Angi meet me when I arrived and showed me around. They offer dinner and breakfast which was some of the best food I ate in Costa Rica and also most of it they grow or produce themselves. Gave lots of tips on places to go and things to see around the area and were fantastic hosts. The bed was very comfortable and an all around awesome place to stay off of the beaten path. The directions to the casita are a must, and numerical addresses do not exist in Costa Rica it seems. Also would highly recommend a 4x4 if you are driving the whole way, however, not that far of a walk if you have to park early. In all I absolutely loved the place and would come back for sure if I return to Costa Rica.

    Ian2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely couple that landed a beautiful property! It’s a very peaceful place with lots of wildlife around. We had dinner and breakfast prepared and it was outstanding. Completely fresh and home grown or made. My sister and I slept like babies in our separate rooms. A frog did jump on me while I was in the bathroom adding to the fun! They have sweet and well behaved pups and a gentle horse. Cows give milk for home made cheese and butter. Thanks for the lovely night! We will be back.

  • Clean and very nice apartment. Our stay was short but it is possible to eat and have breakfast there. There is nothing to cook for. Pay attention to the inaccurate airbnb location and ask for the address before

  • We had two great days on a special kind of farm. From milking a cow to making our own cheese, everything was included. A horseback ride in the area was sensational. Rosalba and her team as hosts were very attentive and helpful.

    Sabine2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful spot. Everyone one there was very friendly. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed the vow milking and cheese making. It was a lot of fun. We were also able to do some hiking on beautiful trails nearby at the Santa Maria volcano entrance of Rincón de la Vieja national park. It was a very nice, quiet, stay. Definitely recommend.

    Shane2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rosalba is a fantastic host! She showed us all the activities to do around and cooked us a wonderful dinner!

    Francesco2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our two night stay in the heart of the Santa Maria area. The hospitality, kindness and generosity of the people who work there is exemplary. We enjoyed a horseback ride in the mountains. We recommend without hesitation.

  • We, two women on the way, have felt very comfortable here! However, we recommend the journey via Liberia and not via Bragaces, as Google recommends. The way that Google indicates is pretty tricky. About Liberia, however, easy. We had a small cabin with comfortable bed and proper bathroom. The food was good, Rosalba, the landlady, was like a mother to us! Totally nice! As a special highlight, we had milked the cows in the morning - and that was really great! Not only does it contain milking and information about the cows, it also includes milk processing and cheese. Afterwards we were allowed to try our own ricotta quark! That was a great experience. We recommend for breakfast the homemade juices !!! The calves are left with the mother for half a year and the cows are only half-milked in the morning, so that enough is left for the calves. In the pasture, the mothers stood with their calves and it was beautiful to watch! From the lodge you can go horseback riding and drive to the Miravalles Volcano Adventure Park to enjoy the canope among the trees. In the lodge, beside the farmers and the (few) tourists "hummingbirds", tucans, many other birds whose names I do not know, "howler monkeys" and "sweet squirrels" live! It was a pleasure to be here! A few chunks of Spanish are an advantage, English is spoken at the front desk.

    Jeanette2019-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Have to go!!! It was great !

    Juliette2019-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Rosalba was exactly what we needed. Felt very secluded in beautiful grounds and looked much better than in the pictures we’d seen prior to our visit. Her hospitality was amazing with great food in her restaurant where the breakfast was especially good. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

  • Leda's place is located in Bijagua, which is a small town, which is highly walkable. This is a great place to stay if you are interested in visiting Tenorio National Park and Rio Celeste. Most communication prior to check-in was through her family member who was easily accessible via telephone and was fluent in English. Leda greeted me warmly and showed me around her beautiful property. At nighttime, her property and the surrounding animals has quite a few animals including birds, armadillo and even monkeys. It was very quiet and nighttime and provided an amazing view of the nighttime sky. She provided amazing hospitality including a delicious fresh breakfast with eggs, fruit, juice and coffee.

    Brandon2019-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t even explain how much I loved it here. The area is absolutely beautiful, the house is charming, and the puppy they have is just the icing on the cake- so cute! In the mornings there was always a delicious breakfast with lots of fruit and hot food and fresh juice. She helped me make call a cab to Rio Celeste, and offered us dinner at night, and snacks and fresh juice mid afternoon. My back gave out the night after hiking and she took me to the farmacy in town for medicine, and I stayed an extra day to recuperate and the company was so enjoyable and relaxing. I really have rarely felt so welcome and comfortable. They truly go above and beyond the duties of a host ♥️♥️

    Hannah2019-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Good location for sloth spotting and walks in the jungle. We went up the street to Finca Verde and enjoyed walking around there. Leda is darling and greeted us with coffee and a snack. The outlets in our room were pretty aged and some of our plug-in items wouldn't stay in (unable to bend the prongs), but that was minor. We enjoyed the hammocks and Leda's Tico hospitality.

    Sasha2019-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Traveling through the beautiful countryside around Bijagua/Miravalles/Upala and our four nights stay at Leda's was definitely the favorite part of our two week trip to Costa Rica ... Waking up to nature sounds, surrounded by greenery and enjoying Leda and her family's hospitality was all very special. The property is just a five minute drive off the main road going through Bijagua, very easy to find. We enjoyed socializing with the other guests staying there too. Nice room with bathroom/shower. Quiet and peaceful. Definitely recommend a stay there. Gracia Leda!

    Robin2018-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Leda's home is wonderful. The rooms are nicely furnished, with a couple of nice little homey touches. Her common areas are comfortable and are quite often shared with family or friends who've stopped by for a visit. She fixed us two very nice breakfast and was helpful with a utensil, or extra ingredient when we prepared our own meals. She has a great reputation in the town as being so friendly and nice to everyone. We can see why, and would definitely stay with her again.

  • Leda will make your stay at her home as if you were one of the family. She welcomed us warmly, gave us plenty of useful tips about what to do and what roads to take, and, most of all, she took some time to sit with us and chat everyday. Rio Celeste and volcán Tenorio, thermal area and cocoa farms are among the highlights of the area. Leda's house is built in a big finca, you are surrounded by nature but still being close to the main road at Bijagua. The room and bathroom are clean and well organised. There can be mosquitoes at night, so it could be good to have those plug-in insect repellent. Leda takes also care of tico breakfast, delicious anf nutritious. As for the road, it is easy once you get to the Liceo Bijagua. We loved our few days at the Hospedaje! Thank you Leda!

Kick back and relax in the prettiest river you'll ever see: the Rio Celeste! The blue water is perfect for swimming or fishing! Our new "tropical igloo" is built of fibreglass and covered with earth. It's cool, quiet, and beautiful! There is a kitchen, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, tv and internet, a comfortable queen sized bed, and hot water throughout. The cabina is private, but we also live on the two acre scenic property!
The tropical igloo sleeps two. It's a tiny house with equiped kitchen, cosy sitting room, extra large showerhead shower, and bedroom with comfortable queen bed. The cabina is extra cool and quiet due to it's earth layer exterior. There is a canopy covering the outdoor entertaining area. Our property is a great place for birdwatching, and frequently visited by howler monkeys. There is a big screen tv, and super fast internet! I can guarantee an enthusiastic welcome from me and our 4 pups!
We are located in an authentic Tico area. There's no need to fight the tourist crowds or pay the tourist prices. A newly paved highway brings you a kilometers from the property. We are walking distance to the premium organic Sibaeli chocolate plantation. If you don't feel like cooking, the Old West Bar makes the best chicharrones, and Soda Toya offers excellent value on great local cuisine. The Black Sheep in the nearby town of Katira, offers great food at excellent prices (and the owners speak some English)! A half hour drive will take you to the Rio Celeste waterfalls hike, as well as butterfly and sloth tours. San Rafael de Guatuso is the nearest big town, boasting 5 grocery stores, beauty salons, 2 pharmacies, many sodas, and a medical clinic. It is a 15 minute drive. • Gillian and Tim’s Sweet Spot is a little garden of paradise tucked in the hills of Costa Rica. Though it is a trip to reach from Liberia, it was easy to navigate with Gillian’s instructions. We felt so welcomed by everyone including the four pups and in talking to locals realized just how lucky we were to be staying on the Rio Celeste! We hope to return to enjoy more peaceful time at the Sweet Spot!

  • Amazing Hosts! We loved our stay. The name says it all! A little piece of heaven on earth 😎

    Rick2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The house and grounds are lovely. Gillian was gracious host. We only got to stay overnight. Next time, we will book more time to enjoy the house and grounds. The Rio Celeste National Park is nearby and a beautiful sight to hike.

    Cindy2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The best AirBnB I have ever stayed in. Such a beautiful location with so many activities to do including hiking, fishing, swimming, playing with the dogs, tiki lounge, ect. Hosts Gillian and Tim are sweethearts and take great car of us and the property. Lots of delicious local restaurants and the neighborhood is so friendly!

    Shiva2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Gillian's place was lovely - it's such a unique home on a beautiful piece of property with outstanding views and landscaping. We were particularly appreciative of Gillian's hospitality and fantastic communication. We arrived much later than anticipated due to a flight delay and Gillian was so flexible and kind, still meeting us with welcome sangria and a smile. A great lodging option between two major CR attractions (Arenal and Rio Celeste) perfect for nature lovers.

    Lynsey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Gillian's. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The property is absolutely gorgeous! You will love this place. The highlight of our stay was seeing 3 spider monkeys in the trees on the property the last morning we were there. So incredible!

    Megan2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at The Sweet Spot was an incredible spot to relax, refresh, and take in the beautiful landscape. The earth house is one of a kind and a perfect fit for two people looking to get away. Gillian was very accommodating and made our stay memorable. Tim made us fresh drinks in the tiki bar too. The dogs are also adorable! The river is unbelievably beautiful and right on the property! We swam/explored it during our stay. There are amazing restaurants and sodas just down the street & you are not too far from rivers, the volcanos & other animal tours!

    Rachel2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a hidden gem!! Gorgeous property. Pictures just don’t do it justice. We felt so welcome and all the little touches made our trip feel so special. Would 1000% recommend for anyone!!

  • Communication with Rebeca was very easy. She was there to great us and even came on short notice to say good-by when we left a few hours earlier than we told her. The cabin is located on a nice farm/garden and it is very quit (aside from animal noises). We saw Toucans and a lot of other birds there.

The Casita La Luna is a special casita designed specifically for couples and singles. It features a queen bed, sitting area, kitchenette and private bathroom. It’s set on stilts which allows you fabulous views of the trees and forest. Casitas Tenorio is a unique B&B located on the slopes of Volcan Tenorio. We are located 2.5km from the centre of Bijagua, which makes us a perfect base for exploring the enchanting bright blue river 'Rio Celeste' in the Volcano Tenorio National Park.
Casitas Tenorio is our home and business. We are Donald Varela Soto and Pip Kelly. We met working together on a conservation project in Bijagua in 2001. Since then, we’ve turned our commitment to sustainable living into a working farm and eco tourism venture. Donald is originally from Bijagua and Pip is from rural Victoria in Australia. We have travelled extensively together and have also lived and worked in a remote Indigenous community in Western Australia. We are married and have two bilingual daughters. Bijagua is our home and we are committed to positively and sustainably developing our community. For us, this means preserving habitat for local wildlife and enabling sustainable tourism in the area. Casitas Tenorio is both a B&B and seven hectare working organic farm, producing dairy and other crops. We sell our milk to the cheese factory in town and also make our own cheese.
Bijagua is still a very traditional and 'authentic' Costa Rican rural town. Many families are involved in farming to make a living. The dense rainforest surrounds the town. You might see people riding horses around the countryside and friendly neighbours might wave as you drive past. Welcome to the 'real' Costa Rica. We are really close to Rio Celeste which is located in the Volcano Tenorio National Park. Come and experience authentic rural Costa Rica!
  • Beautiful premises and very cozy home. You wake up to a rainforest view! There is no TV and WiFi in the room, I consider that as a positive when I am on a vacation. You can access WiFi in the breakfast lounge. There is no cooktop but there is a microwave.

    Kalyanbabu2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Pip went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The best part was sitting eating breakfast and watching the toucans, monkeys and sloth from the porch.

    Jen2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with amazing wildlife, rooms were clean and open with great views! Farm tour was fun to see the different animals and get to milk a cow was a cool experience.

    John2019-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We are a couple in our late 50's who travel light and use public transportation. Casitas Tenorio was the perfect location in Bijagua for us. We stayed 5 nights and toured the local attractions. Heliconias Nature Lodge for the hike and hanging bridges, Finca Verde for sloth and butterfly garden, and the night tour with Miguel at Frog Paradise. We walked to all, but the night frog tour. From town to Casita Tenorio is a 2.5k. hike that takes about 25 min. We walked down nightly for dinner and enjoyed the starry nights and friendly Ticos. We always felt safe. There is a nice hike and look out on their property along with a must do morning farm tour. The breakfast was outstanding on a nice patio to watch the many varieties of birds. Casita Luna was perfect for us. Large windows offered a beautiful view of the rain forest. The bed was really comfortable. Nice water pressure in shower. Wonderful accommodations! NOW......as for Pip and Donald........enough cannot be said about their genuine hospitality. They go above and beyond to make sure you have a comfortable experience. Pip had a lovely, kind and generous personality that she shared with all her guests. As a matter of fact, all the staff were amazing! Without a doubt, we would stay here again. Thank-you for a lovely memory!

    Kathy2019-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous place to stay!!! The rooms are perfect for this location with tons of windows to enjoy the outdoors. Pip is so warm and welcoming. She shared her knowledge of the area and was available to answer any questions we had. The breakfast was delicious and the area where you eat is perfect. They have numerous birds that come to the area and it's so fun to have breakfast while watching toucans feast on bananas in the yard. Our day trip to Rio Celeste was just a short distance away and not to be missed. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Greg2019-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We have done a lot of travel through Airbnb in the past, but this was by far the best overall stay we have every had. Pip was an amazing host which only enhanced the stay at the beautiful home.

    Riley2018-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • a really friendly welcome to the farm / lodge. It gives you a more authentic look into true Costa Rica, off the glossy tourist pictures. The place is very suitable for trips to the neighborhood. Attention rain forest area, the rubber boots on the facade are deco, but probably the normal shoe on the foot in the area .. ++

    Sabine2018-11-21T00:00:00Z

  • Incredible spot, near pretty much every volcano. Nature at its best! Muchos gracias Anna!

    Olivier2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Greenhouse is definitely off the beaten track in terms of places most often visited by tourists in Costa Rica, but if you have the time and you’re interested in an authentic experience I would highly recommend a stay. Ana was so hospitable and has such a beautiful home. We love to garden and she was happy to spend the time to show us all of her plants which are thriving! One word of warning - when you look it up on Google Maps it looks like there is a town nearby, but the town is very small. When we arrived at about 7PM we couldn’t find any restaurants and ended up cooking our dinner after scavenging at the local super. Ana was generous enough to let us pick from her herb garden, but just be prepared!

    Leona2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely place! I wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing in the countryside to totally chill out for a few days and this was perfect! Ana is a warm, friendly, helpful host who went out of her way to make my stay as great as possible. The cottage is really nice and homely, with a well equipped kitchen. But the garden was the big draw for me. A beautiful tree filled haven overlooking a pond with comfy hammocks. So relaxing. There’s a beautiful walk to a river just minutes from the house. I didn’t have a car, but if you do there are lots of sights in driving distance. I fully recommend.

    Mandy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ana's comfortable cozy Casita provided an ideal location to explore the region. The host was able to give great advice. This was a lovely quiet region with beautiful Vistas right out the window and easy exploration with a vehicle.

    Margo2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ana is an outstanding host! The place is amazing, surrounded by nature, truly peaceful! We just loved it so much! Thanks again Ana!

    Caroline2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute space! The bathroom sink area is really nice (screened-in porch) and Ana had the bathroom and kitchen fully stocked with anything we might need. An exceptional deal!

    Cameron2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • It's a beautiful place: simple but clean and adequate. We had good weather, and we really enjoyed Ana's garden with the hammocks and pond. It's about a 6-7 minute drive outside Agua Claras, so it's really in the country. On a clear day, the view of the surrounding countryside is amazing.

This is a modern, newly built home just completed in 2019. It features 10 acres of property with another 10 acres of adjoining nature trails available for guests. Monkeys, toucans, sloths and many other creatures abound in this very private yet conveniently located property (all the photos you see are taken from the property!). The owners live next door and are happy to provide tips on how to enjoy the surrounding area. This property is super convenient to a lot of cool things to do!
This is a complete house with laundry facilities. A full kitchen, two bedrooms, living room and raised porch complete the home. Onsite free parking is available for guests and has space for multiple cars. The property itself is nine acres large, with a trail that leads to some of the best nature trails in the area.
This house is located on the Northwest side of Tenorio Volcano, featuring on-property access to some of the most beautiful primary forest in the area. It is a quiet area, overlooking the valley of Bijagua and panoramic views of Miravalles volcano across the valley.
  • This place is great! Private trails were awesome, views phenomenal and the house is sparkling clean. Highly recommend it! We’d return in a heartbeat. Very close to Rio Celeste waterfall and make sure you hit up Bijagua Ranja to see the sloths. We saw 15+ sloths including two babies, frogs, toucans and other wildlife. Best $20 we spent. The WiFi is pretty slow though in this area so not ideal for anyone wishing to work remotely but it wasn’t a problem for us. We’d recommend this place to anyone! Enjoy

    Lynzi2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay with Bertha! The house was very clean and I enjoyed the back porch space. We had cloudy weather, but on a sunny day it would be very nice to sit back there and enjoy the view. Easy checkin process and quick communication.

    Alex2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Bertha’s place was absolutely phenomenal. The home totally blew away my expectations. It’s a brand new house!!! The view is truly stunning great for a sunset photo. And my g/f enjoyed photographing the horses in the adjacent field. The property is extremely nice. The home was absolutely 100% spotless clean. Bertha and Kamal also gave a great recommendation for dinner at local restaurant off the beaten path (Las Cabañas). One of our best meals in CR. My g/f and I were in La Fortuna and wanted to stop by Rio Celeste on the way to Tamarindo. Bertha’s place was very convenient. I was really blown away by the quality outside the typical tourist areas. Definitely a hidden gem and I could not more highly recommend to stop stay.

    Eric2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning in and out. Pictures don’t do it justice. You’ll feel like you’re sitting on Heavens porch!! Views are breathtaking. Beyond clean, and so much to do in the area. If you are able, stay for a week! It’s that amazing!!

    Donna2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The most beautiful accommodation in Bijuagua !! not to avoid !! breathtaking view !!! the accommodation is just .... I can't explain how ideal it is, just to say that you have to book it !!!

    Catherine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place is really nice and clean. The kitchen has everything you need. The linen are clean and the beds comfy. It was big enough for our family of 4. It was easy to communicate with Bertha ans she even let us put our luggages at her because we arrive to early and the place wasn’t ready yet. Would return anytime.

  • My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay at Marjories place. Marjorie and her family where very accommodating. Rooms where very clean, cool with the windows open or with just the fan running, warm shower, beautiful art, and great location to Rio Celeste Waterfall which is in walking distance so you don’t have to pay the parking fee. Breakfast was huge and delicious. If using google maps search for “Cabinas Cascada Río Celeste” :). You can hear early morning traffic go by, however this wouldn’t stop me from staying here again.

  • Marjorie's B&B was delightful! We stayed in one of the 3 rooms on the bottom floor, above which Marjorie and her family live. The entire family was extremely hospitable, with her husband Miguel pointing out birds to us while we were eating breakfast, and her son offering to drive with us to a tour location because we didn't know the way. It was wonderful to stay with such a gracious family. The location is great, about 15 minutes drive up a winding road from Bijagua, and only an 800 meter walk to the entrance to Rio Celeste, and a further 800 meters to the free swimming area under the bridge. I highly recommend Marjorie's place if you're staying in the area.

  • Marjorie took care of us from Wonderland. Your house clean and very beautiful. The entrance of the Rio Celeste we stayed like 7 minutes walking so the location is perfect. The Cocoa Farm Finca La Amistad is located near Tenorio National Park and the village of Bijagua, in the north of Costa Rica. You will love our accommodation because of cocoa and chocolate, Birdwatching, atmosphere, outdoor space, comfortable bed, Tenorio National Park and Rio Celeste. My accommodation is good for couples, solo travelers and families (with children).
Cocoa plantation, Chocolate, Bird Watching, Costa Rica rural, Natural Reservation, Vulkane Tenrio und Miravalles, Rio Celeste
Tenorio Nationalpark, Cano Negro, Horserding, Rural Costa Rica. Tropical forrests
  • A very rural and rustic location, a wonderful place to wind down. You get the feeling that you are in a caring family setting. The cocoa tour is very interesting.

  • Finca la Amistad is such a beautiful escape. The hospitality of all staff was incredible and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

  • I had expected the nearby Rio Celeste waterfall to be a highlight, however, our wonderful experience at Finca La Amistad turned out to be even more memorable! We rented a standard compact car and I will reiterate that the last 5km is challenging, yet still doable and well worth the slow, bumpy ride (we drove very carefully and in daylight only, during the dry season). Initially we opted for the dinners because we wanted to avoid driving on that road after dark. Yet the meals were so outstanding that this was the best choice regardless! With such delicious, well-rounded, and generously-sized breakfasts and dinners, we were never hungry during the daytime and skipped lunch. We were also impressed with the exceptional care and warm hospitality we received from everyone there, even when our Spanish was woefully inadequate. While on the smaller side, we loved the rustic, cabin-like feel of our room and all the comforts we needed were there. The complimentary chocolate tour is a must, as is enjoying the beautiful grounds and the fragrance of roasting cacao beans when Simon working across the way. We genuinely wished that we could have stayed for three or more nights, instead of only two!

  • Our Amistad Cocoa farm stay was wonderful. The grounds are very nice and the staff friendly. The farm tour was conducted by Luis who knows the process well and many details about the flora and fauna of the region and their impact on cocoa production. He speaks very good English and some other languages beyond Spanish. I would also recommend the meals on the farm - great food and ambiance. We also did the chocolate making which was interesting, tasty and the bars we made will make delicious gifts... if I don’t eat them all on the flight back.

  • We had a really nice stay at the Cocoa farm. The tour and learning how to make our chocolate were activities we enjoyed and will remember! However we didn't know we couldn't choose what we ate at dinner and how much it cost and we didn't really like it bt it was still okay. We loved the rooms and all the people working there. We recommend this place for your trip in Costa Rica :)

  • Nice value if you've got a 4X4 to get there, and plan to visit beautiful Rio Celeste before or after. Outstanding hospitality. A great breakfast. Very interesting cacao farm tour the next day. WiFi worked really well at times and not at others. Would recommend for sure.

  • I can’t say enough about this place! Though the road to the finca is rough (I did it with a small car and in the dark), I thoroughly enjoyed the location, surrounded by nature. It was relaxing, the staff were excellent, food was delicious and accommodation comfortable. Learning about cocoa and the chocolate making process was well worth it!

  • We spent one night at the Finca, the accommodation is very clean and beautiful. The meal and the breakfasts are delicious as well as their hot chocolate! I strongly advise you to stop here!

Esta habitación es original, pensando en un diseño ovalado con círculos dónde puede ver el cielo. También el río celeste pasa por la propiedad dónde se puede nadar o disfrutar de la naturaleza y aves.
  • Great location near the Tenorio volcano park. We can swim in the indescribable blue river, very cool! :) We could also observe toucans there. Alexander is very welcoming and his breakfasts are delicious! :) I recommend!

  • I was amazed by the uniqueness of the dome, and enjoyed a lovely walk to the river

    Lindsay2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a night or two. Great spot to have “private” access to swim in the Rio Celeste!!

    Bruno-Gil2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Alexander's Egg House was very unique and clean place to stay. Only a 10 min walk to the main entrance to Rio Celeste, and a 5 min walk to his private area of the river. We received a great breakfast the next morning. The parking right in front of the egg house was difficult for a small sedan car to drive into because of the rocks, but it wasn't too much of an issue because there were other parking places. We couldn't turn on the AC, but there was a fan and it was cool at night. Be sure to plan ahead for food because restaurants/markets arent that close. Overall it was a very unique experience.

  • Stay in the Eggdome! This place is magical — albeit rustic. Wake up inside an oversized (30’ tall!) version of a Costa Rican style hand-painted faberge egg! With a king sized bed, private view, and stream running down into the Rio Celeste. Dreamy, wild, funky, artistic, and romantic.

  • We stayed in the Egg house (the big dome) and really enjoyed our stay! Alexander is such gracious host and went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home. When we first arrived, there was very heavy rain and we had some electrical issues, and Alexander went above and beyond to fix the issue, and still had dinner ready for us! His place is a bit secluded in a small town, so there are not many restaurants or stores nearby, but Alexander is a great chef, so I would recommend eating dinner/breakfast there. Another huge plus is the private entrance to Rio Celeste- wow! You are not allowed to swim in the river when accessing through Tenorio N.Park, but from his place, you walk just a couple minutes downhill and you reach your own private entrance. We went for a swim before dinner and were the only people there, so it was very tranquil and beautiful! I should mention- the wifi was not very strong in the room, but we didn't mind, as we hung out either on the front porch on the hammock, or in the river most of the time. If you do need to use it, he does have wifi in the restaurant area. I would definitely recommend Alexander's place for any couple like us, or anyone looking to experience some of the amazing nature and tranquil beauty Costa Rica has to offer. Gracias, Alexander!

  • Fantastic place. very cool home and great opportunity to see the stars at night. Alexander was so very nice, an amazing man. It's so close to rio celeste and you get a nice private area, so worth it! Dinner isn't included for price but breakfast is. Both were really great meals. Would recommend this place to anyone!

  • I would highly recommend that anyone traveling to the Rio Celeste area spend some time at the Cabinas Purius. Alexander and his family were wonderful and caring hosts. The property was spectacular, from the unique shaped room, the local wildlife, and the private access to the Rio Celeste River, everything was amazing.

  • Absolutely incredible! We got lost and Yadira was so helpful to get us there. She made snack and pina coladas which was a nice touch. The place was so clean, gorgeous and a perfect location to see Rio Celeste Waterfall. I will be coming back just to see her again. We communicated through Google Translate, because my Spanish is not good. She and her husband were so welcoming. I would say this is my favorite Airbnb I have ever stayed at.

  • I wish i could give more than 5 stars, this place was amazing. The hosts greeted us with fresh fruits that they cultivated themselves. If you like wildlife you must go to this place. Overall the nicest stay we had to this date in costa rica!!

  • Excellent place, nice and cozy.

    Coral2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Really recommended, it is a super quiet place near Rio Celeste that was what I was looking for. The super clean and comfortable room, in addition, the attention of Yadira and her daughter was very friendly.

  • The space is extremely cozy and you have everything you need for sightseeing or resting and relaxing. The hosts are wonderful people with unbeatable human qualities. It is extremely easy to get to the facilities and it is very close to several tourist attractions like Rio Celeste, even the property is an attraction in itself. The place is charming and peaceful and you will have everything you need for tourism or get some rest and relax. The hosts are wonderful and very kind people. It's very easy to get there and it's very close to tourist attractions like Celeste River, actually the property is kind of a tourist attraction itself.
