A fine recently renovated traditional folk house, more than 150 years old, with a chilled and relaxing atmosphere in a rural Japanes crountry side, ZION Guest House is a child-friendly guest house run by a family who have travelled all over the world.
A very beautiful Japanese style room, can be used single to triple. The room is faced to the pond in our garden. Next to the room is the shower room and the toilet for guests.
Old Higashiawakura Village (which is now part of Mimasaka city) is well known for its catch phrase as “Ai-no-Mura” literally meaning “Village of Love” and is surrounded by sacred mountains where monks practiced in ancient time. Ushiro-yama, the mountain surrounding the village is the highest mountain in Okayama prefecture, and is one of the holy and spiritual mountains in Japan. “Ai-no-Mizu” (literally meaning “Water of Love”), the natural spring water from this area is loved by many, and people from other cities drive hours for this water. Our neighborhood is very quiet and surrounded by rice paddies and mountains. You can enjoy the day time relaxing in the cozy house or have a nice walk and interact with locals, and enjoy the starry night sky. Please come and experience the real Japanese village life, see a different part of Japan and discover what you wouldn’t find in guide-books, online, or all those “already-discovered” tourist areas. There are four onsens within a 15-minutes car drive distance and the birth place of one of the most famous samurai, Musashi Miyamoto is only a 10-minutes drive away.
  • A great stop in the Japanese countryside, very nice. The house is really beautiful, it feels good. We can even listen to reggae and chill quietly in a garden full of dragonflies and frogs! And then there is the welcome of the whole family really friendly with the adorable children. Thank you so much !

  • I visited with my 2-year-old child in my family. I was able to taste the countryside atmosphere that I expected at the beginning, and I was just surprised by the very intimate hospitality and the warmth of the family. In addition, the values of the two owners are one reason that I enjoyed myself. Also, children can enjoy playing without any restrictions, and there was also interaction between children, so I would like to recommend it especially to families with children. Although I couldn't play much in the rain, isn't it attractive for urban people to have a safe environment such as a jungle gym in a large garden? The access to the train and highway is very good.

  • I took care of my father and son (8 years old, 6 years old) on a men's trip overnight. The house was clean and well-equipped, and it was a good summer memory to interact with the host and children. The host was also polite and frank, so I was able to relax freely as if I was staying at a relative or family member's house. Thank you very much for the good stay and the memories of meeting. In a large garden, the environment is full of nature so that insect-loving sons can keep enthusiastic about collecting insects. It was midsummer, but I was able to sleep without a cooler at night and I am happy that there is well water. Also, I will go on a mens journey! Thank you in advance.

  • A country idyll. Hosts are seasoned international travellers but now firmly rooted in the Okayama countryside. Such a happy place and 2 small daughters help to make it so. Hosts are extremely friendly and obliging and I felt part of the family. This is deep Okayama countryside at the foot of the mountains. Village is 2 kms away with restaurants and store. Not a tourist spot but notwithstanding that there is lots to see and do if one makes an effort or just laze in the garden and listen to the birds and watch the kids antics! Even city-slickers should enjoy this place.

  • Our stay has been stellar! Its by far one of our best stays with Airbnb and that is due to the amazing hospitality we found! Our hosts were THE best the kids are very cute! We were welcomed warmly and we felt part of the family while we were there. Our room and the house were sparkling clean, our check in and check out together with the communication were great. The location of the traditional Ryokan, was great to experience the Japanese culture and connect with nature. I wish we could spend more time and have the opportunity to stay again! Thank you Kaori and Taka for your amazing hospitality!

  • A truly beautiful retreat, a truly peaceful rest-and-relax place. A delicious vegetarian dinner, a lovely old Japanese house dating back to the 17th CE... A lovely family. Totally recommended...

  • Kaori and family were very welcoming and friendly, we had a great time with them. The house is amazingly well-maintained and we love it. Ohara is a small little countryside town with beautiful scenery, we truly relaxed and had a holiday there.

  • I am indebted with a 5-year-old daughter and 3 family members. I was able to spend a leisurely time after a long time. Thank you for the warm hospitality of Kaori's family. There are no famous tourist spots in the area, but you can spend a relaxing time. It is recommended for people who want to enjoy interaction with other guests.

  • Beautiful Airbnb situated in a quiet countryside town in Okayama. We were arriving really late at night, and Kaori kindly waited for us and had our beds ready as well as our heated water bottles. The home is extremely comfy and we couldn't recommend this place enough!

  • At first, I was able to use a visitor who was supposed to be able to handle at my parents 'house because I could not stay at my parents' house for various reasons. The space where the old house was renovated neatly was comfortable, and the ethnic accessories and paints in the room were also wonderful. In addition, the owners kindly talked variously. Also, this time I was traveling with my children, but there were children's toys and there were children of the same age, so it seemed that the children seemed to be having fun and not getting bored.

    章嗣2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We used the distance, but it was a very nice space. There is no cooler, but it was easy to stay cool at night even in midsummer. BBQ space is also available in the BBQ space, so I think it's ideal for families and groups. In addition, it was a space where even small children could spend time. Although it was an old private house, the toilets and showers were clean and the rooms were well-cleaned, so we were able to spend comfortably.

  • The most amazing experience in a quirky, beautiful house in the country side. The night we arrived there was a travelling band performing in the living room - a truly wonderful, authentic and intimate experience. The scenery surrounding the house is magical. This is a good place to calm down, read a book in the garden, talk to Kaori and Taka, play with the wonderful kids and cook your own meals in the well equipped kitchen. On a rainy day, you can even play bayblade tournaments at the local shopping mall! Go there!

    Ingvild2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • The first night was for 5 families and the second night was for 2 nights with my friends and family. It is already a great holiday! Nowhere to go, I played in the garden, smashed, cooked, and I just enjoyed my life at the inn. The interior that made use of the atmosphere of the old-fashioned house was incredibly beautiful and clean, and I was able to spend a very good time. What makes this stay special is, in any case, thanks to the Hashiguchi Family. Taka-san's calm atmosphere, Kaori-san's sun-like brightness, cute cute two girls who survive the day with all their energy. Living like a human being was such a thing-I received a small culture shock. I want to come back again soon! I sincerely pray for the health of your family and their healthy growth. Thank you a lot for your hospitality. Soichiro & Mayumi ★★★★★★ I could say staying in ZION was one of the best stay we ever had !!! We spent here one night with family (include 3 children), another night with friend's family. But staying in a remarkably beautiful and clean house made us feel so much calm We only went out for a walk, cooked 3 meals, being lazy in Kotatsu, did not special things. I have to say ... What makes this stay gorgeous was HASHIGUCHI FAMILY! TAKA-SAN who is very generous and loves ragge, KAORI-SAN who is positive, have a beautiful smile and cool husky voice, two little cute girls ... we wished we could stay more. Thank you for your walm hospitality. We will definitely come back ZION soon !! love Soichiro & Mayumi

  • The host spoke very kindly and I felt very comfortable as I had nothing to worry about. I am grateful to have a lot of daughters playing together too! The atmosphere of the house is wonderful because it is a stylish old-fashioned house in nature, and it was really fun to be able to enjoy the barbecue even in the rain! I want to go there again!

  • This is a lovely, traditional architectural gem located in the Japanese countryside, beautifully decorated and immaculately maintained by Kaori, her husband, and two lovely little girls. Even though this is off the beaten path (note that, as you need an extra fare if you re traveling with a JR pass), it is well worth the trip. Kari is a lovely person, full of warmth and genuine hospitality. You will not be sorry to make a reservation here. My suggestion would be to plan to stay in the countryside while here and see a nicer side of Japan. Just a five star stay.

    Jane-Marie2019-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Kaori was an excellent host who immediately made our group feel at home during our short stay in Okayama. The house was a beautiful traditional Japanese home that emphasized craftsmanship and attention to detail. We were given excellent recommendations on places to visit and food to eat. Our fondest memory was sharing a warm conversation with Kaori under the Kotatsu. Zion House is a very special place and I give it my highest regards. I urge you to check it out!

  • Subaru-san is very kind and always supportive! The room is nice and clean and warm in winter. The house is very close from a JR station.

  • Subaru is a fabulous host! Her place is cozy and charming, and there is very easy access to the JR Ako line. The guest room is sparkling clean and very comfortable. The neighborhood is very quiet and friendly.

    William2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Subaru is such a sweet woman. It is evident that she has a deep love for cats. Her home is in a tiny town, off the beaten path, literally 3 minutes away from the train station which is fantastic. The ramen place by her home was insanely good, we had some of the best fried seafood we've had on our trip over there (they don't speak English, but the if you point at the plastic food outside, they will figure out what you want:) Her breakfasts that she cooked every morning were exquisite, and different every morning. If you are planning to check out the Bizen pottery, it is a really good pitstop.

    Nathan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The couple used it to go to the Bizen ware festival held at the next station next morning. Close to the station, it was really helpful. I took a rest in a very comfortable bed. I only met a cat for a moment, but he was healed by a cry. Thank you very much for breakfast.

Quiet, Beautiful countryside also convenient supermarket and station is nearby. Good for family cause we have a kid and cat.
This old house was built 120 years ago and We renovated by ourselves. We made rocket mass heater by ourselves so that you can stay nice and warm.
From Sayo, you can easily access to World Heritage sites such as Tottori, Okayama, Ako and Himeji in around an hour. Also Sayo is famous as "a town of stars". The star-gazing session is held at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory (NHAO), which has the largest telescope in the world through which visitors can gaze heavenly bodies. In early summer, many fireflies flashing at the riverside. In August, you can see the beautiful sunflower fields which 1million sunflowers are grown there. For details, please see the website of Sayo Tourist Association.
  • Ayumi San and her husband have a wonderful home in Sayo with all the modern conveniences and very spacious. The family is wonderful and their little boy is a sweetheart. The home is only a 5 minute walk to the train station and close to a grocery store. Himeji and Tottori are not too far when taking the train. Not much to do in the town itself and just to know, the house is very close to the railroad tracks. The trains didn’t bother me and they don’t run during the night. I’m happy to have met this family!

    Cheryl2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ayumi and her family keep a very clean house! A lot of love was put in the house itself. A very good choice to go and relax in Japan's countryside.

    Félix2019-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ayumi and her family are very welcoming, very friendly and open. Ayumi made us some delicious scones and tea-cakes and drove us to the train station VERY early to help us on our way! Many thanks!

  • Ayumi and her family were fantastic! They picked us up from the train station, and drop us when we were about to leave. They even took us to a place for some breakfast, we forgot a backpack and Ayumi and her husband went back to the train station to drop it! Their baby boy is lovely! House is very comfortable clean and authentic. Location is fantastic, close to Himeji castle ( a must seen!) and Osaka. If we are ever back in sayo we would love to stay at their house again :)

  • As with my first visit, I stayed as a night before the event participation in the Okayama area. This will be my third stay. There is a sense of security that came home, but there is a new surprise every time I come. It is a really nice house. I will always come again!

  • The house that the old houses were renovated by their husbands themselves, the fragrance of the wood smelled and the mind calmed down. Ayumi and her husband were very kind people, and I taught various neighborhood recommended rice clubs. In the evening, we had drinks with our husband and wife and stayed up till late and we had a very good time. I feel like I was able to have one villa in my house and I would like to interfere again.

    Jun2018-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • I also wanted to ask you a favorable home and a nice landlord!

    Mutsumi2018-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was a spacious garden even if we parked in a location that is very easy to understand near from the station although we went by car. I was very happy to have a barbecue there. When it was rainy we told that parking lot could be used. My family also got along well with my husband and a couple 4 years old boy (Mechamécha cute!) And Mary 's cat (love playing with lots of fun) and I had a great time with you. It is a recommended accommodation for families. I will go play again! ! ! Thank you very much! !

  • LOVED our stay here! Lilly was an excellent host, the place is so sweet and it had everything. Hinase itself was also absolutely gorgeous. Can recommend hiring some electric bikes right near Hinase station and riding across the bridges to cafe reborn, it’s in this little White House on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There’s a family friendly swimming beach along the way and everyone was so friendly and welcoming everywhere we went (for example a man and his family that we met at the local restaurant drove us the Uno port the following day). Don’t rush to the islands straight away, definitely chill in Hinase for a couple days, it’s a gem

  • Shuji's inn was so beautiful and comfortable. It had the feel of a bed and breakfast, and the welcoming atmosphere of a warm home. Shuji and his wife were wonderful hosts, providing friendly conversation and recommendation for local sightseeing spots. The space was sparkling clean and very beautiful, decorated in a modern but distinctively Japanese style. My stay was short, but if I visit Himeji again, I would like to stay here once again. I recommend their inn to anyone traveling to Himeji.

  • One of our best Airbnb experiences ever! We felt so welcome. Shuji and his wife are the kindest. We loved the beds, warm shower, the sushi experience and the great breakfast! Shuji picked us up from the station right on time and drove us back the next morning, even when it was very early! Definitely would recommend staying here:)

  • It is a hotel of a commitment of a husband who likes a motorcycle. We used in family of 2 adults and 2 children in GW. There is also a parking space. The room is a single room, with a private kitchen, toilet and bathroom. People other than bikers can also use it. It is an old-fashioned house, but all around the water are being renovated and you can spend comfortably. The dinner was cooked using the kitchen. Cooking utensils are also almost complete. Because there is a major supermarket in the center of the city, you can immediately buy out what is missing. I was very happy to prepare a delicious breakfast in the morning. The stylish interior and the nicely kept garden are wonderful. If there is a husband's home in the facility, you can respond immediately if there is anything. There are also GWs and many bikers have stayed. My husband was also having a good time together. It was a very homely atmosphere when we kindly welcomed our family, talked to us and invited us to play. There was a gentle stream in the site and I played with masonry and drainage. Nature is full. I want to visit again in summer. Next time, I would like to have an open-air bath in production. There is also space for BBQ.

  • Great place to stay if you're in the area. There was covered parking for motorcycles and a lovely little garden. Breakfast was great.

  • You could never imagine the outstanding beauty of the place. Surrounded by the rice field, total darkness at night brings millions of starts in the sky, cool clear water in the river just in front of the house, thousands of cherry blossoms… You will want to stay in this place for more than a week! Ideal for retreat, relaxing, to enjoy peaceful time, yet lots of places to visit in the area, not the famous tourist destinations but demonstrates the true beauty of Japanese rural nature an life. The room was spacious and clean, I was able take a bath with a huge bath tab, the stay itself was much more than expected. Furthermore, hospitality from the host, Mr. Kiminobu was absolutely caring and supporting. Coversation with him made was a lot fun and interesting, talked a lot about touring, local culture, lifestyle etc. Highly recommended!!

    広隆2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The village is symbolic of terraced rice fields in the countryside of Mimasaka City in Okayama. I visited my family (with my husband and one-and-a-half-year-old son) just in the middle of autumn. I was impressed by the golden rice terraces in the rice harvest season, the blueness of the sky and the comfort of the autumn breeze. Thanks to the gentle personality of Shinobu and Kutch, my husband and child seemed to get used to it immediately, and I was able to spend my wings in nature. Because the house is a refurbished old private house, I feel the heat and cold. There are insects. I think each person has a different feeling, but we have a very good memory that we were able to sleep well with our family while watching the full starry sky and the full moon. In a good way, it's a magical place with a very exciting encounter and a peaceful environment. I had an interesting experience like Airbnb.

  • Traditional Japanese country side house with an amazing view on the rice terraces in the valley. If you want to get a feel for the authentic country side living and de-stress from the daily city life, then this is the place for you! Shinobu and Katti are incredibly friendly hosts who will do everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They are super knowledgeable about the local area, rice agriculture, sake making, growing shiitakes, fishing, fireflies, local village renovations, honey making... and always happy to share. Breakfast, lunch, dinner can all be prepared upon request. Always plenty and always super tasty! Kitchen, fridge and traditional Japanese hearth are also available if you want to do your own cooking. It’s about 1 hour drive from Okayama airport. You will need a car to get there, since public transportation is limited; but the views along the way are breathtaking, so it’s well worth the drive.

    Kevin2019-06-23T00:00:00Z

    Hanako2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Mr. Shinobu and her husband, and a lovely dog welcomed me warmly! Not only the terraced rice fields, but also the natural environment and the wonderful environment that is truly healed, there is also a billiard table and a traditional manual football game on the terrace where you can overlook the hearth and views. An attractive house filled with lots of hobbies, there was an exciting excitement on the website! I'm looking forward to further evolution from now on (^ ^) At the same time, the village was united, the atmosphere to revitalize the rice terraces, and the village to be heaped was very good, and I felt that I was very jealous and somewhat relieved. I sincerely hope to use this place where my mind and body are clean again (^ ^) I am really indebted!

    Akira2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • You can look down a valley covered with a truly breathtaking view. You have access to a modern family of patients with a kind of well maintained rice terraces with a truly breath taking view. type of toilet and a bath. For lunch, there is a cafe called Ichoan (a house of ginkos) within a walking distance; it's open on Sunday, Monday and Japanese national holidays. Highly recommendable for anyone who wants to experience an authentic rural life in Japan. The covered terrace with the breathtaking view of the terraced rice fields is wonderful. It was a life that wakes up with the song of a bush warbler or a wild bird. There is a large kitchen space so you can cook yourself or ask the host for dinner. We went to the old-fashioned cafe called "Chocho" near our house every day for lunch and dinner (every day is usually a business day). It is a distance that can be reached in one hour from Okayama city, but it is recommended for people who forget daily life and want to relax.

  • Enthusiastic, forgetful, travel, cooking, delicious, delicious, and savory. Hostess and her husband is very nice.Home made food is very delicious.Landscape is much more beyond my imagenation. If you come to this place,it will be an unforgetable trip surely. The owner is a couple, both of them are very enthusiastic. The dishes made by the male owner are simple but delicious. The scenery here is very beautiful and the environment is very good. The life in the countryside is very similar to that of a child, and it reminds me of many memories. We warmly welcomed us at the station and when we left, although it took half an hour to get to the station. And on the day of departure, we said that we would give us a gift. The result turned out to be a helicopter trip, a very unforgettable stay experience. Believe me, if you come over It will definitely be worthwhile.

  • A really great place to stay. I stayed for a long time (3 weeks), but it was surprisingly really comfortable, the place is convenient and close to Himeji Station and Himeji Castle, and the staff were all very accommodating. Many people would come and go from different countries, so it was interesting to speak to them too. The beds are close to each other and just have a curtain for privacy, which bothered me one night someone was snoring loudly, but mostly not an issue. Definitely a great stay!

  • Great location that's right between Himeji Station and the castle. I found this place only after I arrived, but their response was fast and checking in was a breeze. I really liked the quintessential izakaya experience (aka standing bar) and the beds and amenities were more than sufficient for one night. The lady who greeted me and ran the bar was friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommended if you're coming to Himeji!

When we arrive, he will come down to meet us, tell us some notes, talk a little, and wish us a happy and relaxing one. Late, the house is old, but the style is unique and very very clean! The bed is also very comfortable to sleep. This is the most satisfying stay I have come to live in Japan. If I have the chance, I will want to come again! Living in the renovated 100-year-old building, hand-crafted precious pieces of glass, ancient coffers coexisting with the house, and fine knit boxes to experience a variety of details to take care of. Clean and comfortable, the owners and couples were quite friendly and introduced great travel spots.

The barbecue with meat I bought at a nearby butcher was also good (^ ν ^) We responded to requests on a case-by-case basis! In addition, I also taught the recommended spots in the neighborhood. Also, the house itself was so great with real traditional style, inner sunshine garden, the Japanese dog, Shiba Inu, and the outside of views with colourful flowers in streets. Especially, the night sky view with so many stars were so impressive that I highly recommend to see the beautiful view. :)

  • It is very convenient to go to this homestay, just a few minutes walk straight from the station. It is also very close to Himeji Castle. It takes about 10 minutes to walk. The rooms are clean and the environment is good. The boss is very enthusiastic.

  • This a very good place to stay! Clean and cozy, it feels like home. The host is very kind and can speak English well. The house is very modern and comfortable. They also made xmas theme decorations, that's very cute and it feels warm. It's well located, 5min to the castle and 15min to the main train station! I definitely recommend this place

It's a small villa in Hinase islands. There are no restaurants or shops on this Koujima island. So we need to bring food from the mainland. However, we have basic cookware and seasoning so you can cook in the kitchen. Unfortunately the beach is far away to walk (30min) and seenic from balcony is not good. So it is good for staying quietly in a mountain villa. We have; · Bluetooth audio · Chromecast · Nintendo Classic · No TV
fridge, microwave oven, rice cooker, toaster, gas stove, seasoning (free),
It is 15 min from The Hinase Port by regular public boat. The Hinase Port is 10 min walk from JR Hinase Station. Because the regular public boat is only five round trips a day, please check the time schedule carefully.
  • I was very relaxed in a nice environment. Without a TV, I was able to fully immerse myself in retro time, such as records and NES. I also want to use it if I have the opportunity.

    Ryo2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The island is very quiet, and at night there is almost only the sound of bugs. I saw the raccoon at night, but I didn't take it. It is highly recommended to go to the observation deck on the island. During the day, there are only four people on the island. Two of them are telecom staff. The cabin is located close to the top of the mountain. When you need to travel, Mika will drive to pick up and drop off. I am not very fluent in Japanese, but Mika is still very enthusiastic, thank you very much. If you have a longer holiday, you will come and stay.

  • Recommended for those who want to relax in a quiet place. In addition, you can spend peace of mind because the host will respond quickly. There are NES and records in the room.

  • Based on our own personal experience, we recommend this property for: 1) Very nice and hospitable hosts. 2) The location (quiet and scenic) 3) amnesties (despite being in a remote location, basic amnesties and cleanliness were great) 4) Nearby attractions (the local food, people and sceneries) are a plus. A good deal for the money we paid : )

  • Small fisherman's house at the edge of the water. Original welcome since it is the place of work of our host who weaves traditional carpets. The decor is elegant and has everything you need. We were there in April, it was cold (the insulation is average) and we recommend going there from May. The location once arrived is beautiful, surrounded by traditional houses and the coast with views of the surrounding islands.

Come and experience my traditional Japanese Guesthouse! Private room located in one of Himeji main shopping districts. The guest house is above my Kimono shop, where you can come and try kimonos. The room accommodates 2 people on bunkbeds, there is a sofa/bed which can be offered for a kid. The location is great only a short 10 minute walk from both Himeji Castle and Himeji Station. The Guesthouse is set in traditional Japanese style. Towels are complimentary, as well as coffee and tea.
Two bunk beds in a private room, there is a sofa bed that can be offered for a kid. The room has an A/C unit.
Nikaimachi shopping street intersects Miyuki shopping street. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and there are arcades, so it is safe even if it rains. Plenty of shops and restaurants at a short stroll, super convenient!

  • The futon was fluffy and slept well. I had a very enjoyable time eating rice with my host and other guests.

  • Hikaru's residence enjoys a great location in relation to the station, the castle and the Coconut Garden. Restaurants are easy to reach. The accommodation is cozy and feels homely, there are 2 other rooms so there are other guests too but then you get some nice talk with them.

    Anne Mette 2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • I knew that the space I was staying in was going to be a loft, but I did not realize that the loft would be such tight quarters. In order to get to the futon, the guest must dip beneath ceiling cross-beams and crawl under a massive log that makes up part of the central support structure in the building. I thought that the space was going to be private, but it turns out it was semi-private. There was no way to shut a door or lock my things away. I spoke with Hikaru about adjusting her posts so that they reflect the privacy of the rooms she has to offer. One of her other rooms is actually a private room and has a door that can be shut, but not locked. The loft has a curtain that hides the sleeping space from view of the living room/dining room. If I were older or had a bad back, this room would not have worked for me at all. I was prepared to climb some stairs, but I was not expecting to need to literally crawl to get into bed. However, this was the only negative aspect to my stay with Hikaru. The futon that I stayed on was the most comfortable bed out of everything she has to offer. In fact, over the course of my two week trip to Japan, it was the most comfortable bed I stayed on the entire time I was there. I love the personable touch that Hikaru brought to the table. She gave me great advice on where to go to get things that I needed and where to go to get things that I wanted. I even left something (by mistake) at her Airbnb and when I sent her a message almost a week and a half later, she found the item, and she shipped it to me within the day. One of the best things about my trip to Japan was staying at Hikaru’s place. I was able to meet some really cool people and I felt so comfortable and welcomed, that it’s literally the first thing I tell people about my trip! The location is perfect. It’s about halfway between Himeji Castle and Himeji station. On the way from the station, you can rent bikes easily. You can get to the mall within 10 minutes by bike from the Airbnb. All around, are shops of every kind! When the festival is hit, it’s in the perfect location too- not too far, not so close that it’s in the middle of things! I highly recommend hitting up Hikaru’s Airbnb because it’s the best decision you will make on your whole trip.

Surrounded by the beautiful woods all around, it is a place to find peace within and reconnect with yourself. We have an in-house library, gallery, cafe and a prayer room/yoga space. You are also invited to live as part of our family meeting locals including some great crafts people as we go about in our daily lives. We are fully dedicated to the comfort of sensitive and nature-loving travellers like yourselves. Our B&B received Okayama Award (Best Accommodation) in 2014.
Our traditional Japanese house was handed down to our family by my grandmother who decided to open up her study as a library to local children when we didn't have a public one in the village. In addition to three guest rooms, we have a few communal areas and a hammock(very popular!) where you can draw and paint(we have a great selection of coloring pencils, watercolor paints, etc), read, meditate or have a chat with us to your hearts content.
Located in a mountainous area, by strolling around the neighborhood and interacting with locals, you will get an insight into a countryside Japanese life. Nishiawakura Village and nearby areas are a storehouse of extraordinary crafts people engaged in traditional Japanese arts from woodwork, natural dye, swordsmithing to name a few. This will be the absolute highlight of your stay in the village.
  • We had a wonderful time at hiromi‘s place. A beautiful, traditional japanese house, a lovely onsen nearby and a delicious vegan breakfast. Hiromi is a warm and wellcoming host. Highly recommended.

  • I became a fan of Saijokura and Hiromi. I will use it again.

    Yuki2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Hiromi is such a wonderful hostess that my visit completely exceeded my knowledge and expectations of good hospitality! I ended up visiting without the car that I had planned on, but Hiromi, with her knowledge of the area and transportation in the area, went out of her way to ensure that I had a terrific visit nonetheless. The B&B itself is really lovely. It is one thing to listen to running streams and nature sounds on a CD... and is quite another to fall asleep listening to nature all around you. This Chicago girl loved it all. The village is cool and scenic, being nestled in a valley of cedar filled mountains. Everyone was kind to me (despite my extremely rusty Japanese). I had just a wonderful time and am so grateful to Hiromi for her gracious hospitality.

  • "Home" If I had to think of one word to descibe this wonderful place, this has to be it. Never did I think in my wildest dreams that I would find a place so accommodating in the rural area of Japan. A place so rural that the trains arrive once every hour or two and yet, here we are. It felt as though we were a part of the family as they were not shy in showing us their side of the world. We could see how they interacted with each other - Hiromi with her sons and husband - as we mingled among them. The breakfast is as all the reviews before us mentioned - home made, organic, and delicious. Not only that but Hiromi went out of her way to help us with our planning and schedule which helped us greatly as we are still new in finding our way through the complex japanese metro system. All in all, the stay was satisfying and worth the money we spent to stay during the golden week of Japan. If its comfort, experience, and worth-it factor you're looking for, you've come to the right place.

  • I had an amazing time in Nishiawakura thanks to Hiromi! Her house is beautiful and comfortable, and she really went out of her way to make me feel at home :) She offered to pick me up from the Ohara station when I arrived, and shared so many interesting facts about the village along the way. It was a truly memorable trip, and I am very grateful to Hiromi for being such a gracious host.

  • Hiromi and Olivier are warm and inviting and they took great care of me and my friend. They have beautiful surroundings away from the busy cities and the house itself is comfortable. Even though the house is out of the way, there are a lot of things to see here if you find a way to get to them. Hiromi was very helpful in telling us what options we had and actually getting us there. Don't skip out on the beautiful countryside of Japan! We won't forget this wonderful stay we had in Japan! Thank you so much Hiromi!

In addition, Tottori Prefecture is called “Hoshitori Prefecture” and is a place where you can see some of the most beautiful stars in Japan. The countless stars that sparkle in the night sky are one of the highlights of the “Quaint house in the woods KARORI”.
  • The fireplace and the Goemon bath were very interesting and created a fun space for everyone to enjoy! I think that it will be a valuable experience such as chopping wood and ignition! You can ask for food, but I was very happy to see many dishes that felt the warmth of my family! I recommend that you ask for food personally! I want to go again in the snowy season.

    祐真2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Although it was a self-check-in, I was able to ask me how to enter the room carefully beforehand and ask with confidence. There are four wood stoves and a Goemon bath in the room, which can be heated by themselves. All the firewood was free and there was enough to warm the room. It was a very cold day with snow, but thanks to the wood stove, the whole room was very warm and comfortable. The time spent watching the flames was a very rich and valuable experience. Goemon bath was my first time, so I was able to experience some of the hardships of old people and enjoy it. In addition, I think that you can ignite without problems even if you have never used it because there was abundant preparation such as ignition agent. Convenience stores and drugstores are a short drive away in about 20 minutes, so we recommend that you shop before going. We requested rice in advance and delivered it at the designated time. They warmed and served them on the spot, and we had a warm and delicious meal. In addition, breakfast prepared handmade bread and cake, and all were delicious and satisfied very much. Self-catering may be good, but we recommend that you ask for food when you stay overnight! On the day we visited, snow was piled up in the middle of the night, and on the next morning the snow was fresh on one side, making it easy to step on, and we had a lot of unusual experiences. I want to visit this summer!

  • Mika’s place is great! A short (and pretty) ferry ride takes you to Koujima, and Mika’s place is at the top of a hill overlooking the bay. The sunsets were beautiful. The unit itself blew me away. Nice, hospitable touches and really nice architecture. It felt like a home. The island itself is nice and pretty for a day or 2 of walking around and exploring.

    Everett2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Although I was worried about whether the typhoon was approaching and I could land on the island, I contacted diligently and it was my first time using airbnb. The inn was very beautiful and abundant with amenities that exceeded expectations. The wild raccoon was seen and healed.

    松浦2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The 2 days I stayed here were the most fun! The house is very comfortable and clean, there is a yoga ball hahaha, the TV is oversized. The island is very suitable for a relaxing holiday. When I was running in the morning, I saw a little raccoon. I bought it for a boat ride, but it was very convenient. The landlord would drive us to the port! It’s fun to go on the island!

    英子2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the window was also beautiful, and we had a very relaxing time in a house that was too wide for two people. I was sent to the port and the correspondence was polite and airbnb beginners, but I was able to stay with peace of mind. It was very clean and it was good that there was no "staying in people's house" feeling. The dishes and pots were also available, so the cooking time was fun. Thank you very much.

    真歩2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Mika’s house is truly beautiful. The photo of the view is actually the view from the sliding glass door in the galley style kitchen. You get a beautiful peek-a-boo view of the Inland Sea of Japan. When you walk into the house, you are greeted by the smell of freshly milled wood from the new construction. Mika’s home is a wonderful blend of traditional Japanese architecture with Western style features. Nothing beats the sounds of waking up to the sounds of nature outside.

    Matthew2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I escaped the concrete jungle and stayed at Mika's place overnight. The short ferry ride over starts the trip off scenically. Mika picked us up then proceeded to complete the informal check-in next door to where we stayed. The house is ideal for a getaway. There were all the necessary thoughtful touches in the house which made a very comfortable stay.. We both slept so deeply and woke up feeling completely refreshed. We definitely recommend exploring the island - quite intriguing seeing so many abandoned houses. One can imagine that back-in-the-day it would have been a jumping holiday destination. Kojima is worth visiting if you are needing some time out from the rat-race.

  • A stone's throw away from Himeji Castle makes this guest house a fantastic find. Located above a Kimono Shop, this venue is perfectly located between the station and the popular tourist attractions. Our host, Hiraku, greeted us with a warm welcome. The room and the rest of the guest house is furnished with charming traditional Japanese items and furniture, that helps you become immersed in the culture. Overall, this is a fantastic venue with great links to popular tourist destination. If you're looking to visit Himeji, we cannot recommend this venue enough.

  • Although the island is not particularly convenient for transportation, it is really a very good stay experience. The people on the island are very kind and helpful to us a lot, because I didn't have a driver's license and also took us to the pier every day. Mashimo Sang also prepared a very detailed travel and traffic guide for us to go to Shodoshima and straight in the past few days. The trip to the island is very smooth~ I want to come back with my friends next time.

  • Hikaru and her husband were so warm and welcoming during my entire stag. I had been travelling for 3 full weeks and much appreciated their welcoming hugs and how they allowed me to sleep in until i naturally woke without an alarm. Keep in mind that this is budget accommodation and you will be fine. Bunk beds and 2 sets of steep stairs may not suit some travellers. Her space is very traditionally Japanese and the design touches take one back in time.

ONE Hostel Himeji

Only 10 minutes walk from station, 10 minutes to Himeji Caslte!!! Welcome to Himeji 588 Guesthouse, as your second home in Himeji. Located on a traditional Japanese shotengai (shopping arcade), the Himeji 588 Guesthouse situates visitors in the heart of Himeji City's historical district, and is only steps away from local shopping and restaurants faring traditional regional cuisine. Our guest house is quaint with an at-home charm that you will love. :Rooms: Guest rooms Mix dorm
We renovated the old-bistro which remain the shows-era atmosphere. So it is not new and modern, but you can feel the Japanese taste, which is different from ryokan. :)
With some steps out from guesthouse, you will feel you are living in the center of Himeji city. Since we located in roofed- shopping street, you do not need umbrella to come to our hostel , and also, at nighttime, you can see Himeji Castle light-up since it is soooo close . Himeji castle is beautiful at nighttime and we super-recommend to see at nighttime.
  • Kyoko is a wonderful host and was welcoming from the moment I crossed the threshold; the accommodation is great value, warm and fun and right next to the castle. Perfect spot and wonderful people

  • Really nice place, good adresses around (restaurants, cafe, ...) and really close to the Castle. The place has good accomodations, and Kyoko is really nice and friendly ! Definitely in in my favourite list !

  • This guesthouse is only about 10 minutes walk from the Himeiji train station, and then another 5 minute walk to Himeiji castle. The guesthouse is very close to a wonderful grocery store where we bought fresh fruits and vegetables and protein for several meals. The guesthouse has a microwave, refrigerator, and kettle for boiling water, along with plenty of cups/utensils/dishes to borrow. The guesthouse is located within a roofed shopping street with plenty of dining options and has a nice small-market feel. Very safe and has plenty of outdoor lighting. Kyoko and her mother talked with us during the evening and told us stories of their world travels. They shared local travel tips and Kyoko even took us to play ping pong with her friends at a local gym. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. Overall it was a fantastic stay for $27 per person. Highly recommended.

  • Kyoto’s place was perfect, and she was an amazing host with lots of helpful tips!

    Ariel2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kyoko is such a warm host! She gave me recommendations to visit the castle at night for its seasonal projection/night illumination, a great hike, and for a good breakfast deal at a cafe. The location is perfect, basically a walk across the block to the castle entrance, and very close to the train station. The hostel itself has a cozy atmosphere. As I was one of two guests staying the night (Kyoko was kind enough to upgrade me to the private Japanese style room since it was unoccupied), and shops in Himeji in general seemed to all close at sundown, it was a quiet, peaceful stay.

  • Best experience lived in Japan in a guest house, the hosts are at the top full of attention and kindness. The place to be in Himeji. Close to the castle park, close to all amenities, beautiful house over 120 years. I highly recommend going for a walk worth it if you like the charm of traditional Japanese inns and the proximity to locals. (If you are a fan of manga, there is an impressive library !!)
