Places to stay in Perintalmanna
Kazhagam is a simple homely place, with a rustic feel set amidst the greenery. It is at the edge of woods, halfway down a hill. It is best for artists n writers who are looking for some peace and quiet to contemplate and stimulate the creative juices while exploring the countryside, walking across paddy fields or simply sitting by the river watching a wide variety of birds taking a dip or fishing in the water. The place is also great for families looking for a space to be together to bond.
Kazhagam is a 5 minute walk from Bharathapuzha river. It is 4 km from the famous Kerala Kalamandalam, the seat of arts and culture of Kerala. It is a great place to soak up some of India's oldest art forms and, if you are lucky, even enjoy performances by renowned artists. Guruvayoor temple, one of South India's holiest sites, is about 45 km from Kazhagam (about an hour's drive). Other attractions nearby include the Nelliampathy hill range with exotic scenery located about 70 km away and the Malampuzha dam, which is about 60 km away.
Painkulam is a typical village that retains its old world charm. Age-old traditions of local fairs called Vela and annual Poorams are events most looked forward to by the locals.

  • Sreekala ji had been a wonderful host. Her home is on a secluded place inside a village and it takes some time to get there. But the location is very beautiful especially of the temple nearby besides the river. Its a 5 min walk from the house to the river and the visitors can bath there if they wish. Sreekala ji provided us with temple prasadam when we first arrived and it tasted wonderful. She also took out time and gave me a tour of the village temple, her ancestral house and the river banks which were beautiful to say the least. Also the house had all the amenities except for a TV and we were pleasantly surprised. The utensils and cutleries in the house were also extensive and we didn't face any problems with cooking our own meals. The house is filled with beautiful paintings done by her father. Thanks Sreekala ji for hosting us. You had been a great host and it was lovely staying in your place.

  • Our down-the-memory-lane trip to this part of Kerala was peaceful, restful, and full of natural beauties. Our party of 9 (consisting of 3 generations!) had a wonderful stay at this home in Painkulum. The home itself is beautiful, large, well furnished with most modern amenities. In addition to the 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, there is a large porch in front to relax, and a rooftop terrace as well. The neighborhood was quiet with paved lanes going up and down the village. If you are so inclined, there are several unpaved narrow lanes by the fields and groves that you can take to visit the beautiful Bharathapuzha river and nearby temples. We called and were met by Mr. Vijayan on arrival who showed us around the house. He visited us again the next day, and as my mother is from that part of Kerala, found common friends and connections to chat with him about. Although on our first day, we were prevented from going out in vehicles because of a general strike, we enjoyed nearby walks. Ms. Jayashree was available to provide us delicious meals. We walked to the neighboring stores to get supplies such as milk, eggs, coffee and vegetables. An unexpected trouble of no water one morning (quickly resolved) inspired some of us to bathe in the river, which turned to be one of the nicest pleasures of the trip. Mr. Vijayan helped arrange vehicles for local trips and trip back to the airport for the large party. The youngsters of the family enjoyed the stay, the river and the walks. Now for some aspects that could be improved. A coffee maker (of any kind) and tea kettle, along with supply of tea bags and coffee would really start the mornings off better! The communication with Jayashree was a little difficult even though some of us knew Malayalam. As we were there only for 3 days and we were a large family, we ordered most meals via Ms. Jayashree. The meals provided were delicious, with local flavors but we found the quantity of the vegetable dishes was quite limited, and sometimes we supplemented with our preparations. As well, we understood prior to the trip that there were other catering options in the village, but it was not very clear what they were during our short stay. If you are planning a trip here you may want to plan/explore meal and cooking options. Despite these minor concerns, we enjoyed our stay, and are planning to be back in the future.

  • We are happy with our stay at Sanat and Tinku reactive and attentive their house is original and located in the countryside. Very appreciable. We recommend you

    Vincent2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Tinku and Sanat's place. The room was, very clean and comfortable, and right outside there is a beautiful garden where you can relax and hear the birds singing. We were driving a rickshaw as part of the rickshaw run and arrived there with no issues. We drove our rickshaw down to the village, which is very pretty with nice people. Highly recommend staying here and definitely trying Tinku's delicious homemade meals.

  • The place is just as beautiful as in the pictures with amazing plants all around, and a great patio to admire them and plenty of books to read. The room was very spacious with a private bathroom and plenty if windows towards the beautiful jungle. There are ventilation holes above the window and a fun over the bed, so it was never to hot. Also I was offered a product to protect me from the mosquitoes but there were not really mosquitoes (and I am quite sensitive to them). One afternoon we even wet for a lovely walk around the house and to the small village, so we saw all the neighbouring plantations (pepper, cinnamon, coconut, rice, tapioca, etc). Traditional food that i was offered was also very tasty!

    Franco2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Unbeatable experience, they were such amazing beautiful kind people who treated us incredibly well. The food was delicious and they have a stunning balcony surrounded by lush green flora. I can only recommend this lovely place!

  • Tinku and Sanat were the perfect hosts. Friendly, helpful, efficient, relaxed and generous. I arrived after a very long 3 flights and my bag was lost along the way. Tinku greeted me warmly, showed me to my very comfortable room in their beautiful tranquil house, and offered everything from tea to towels. The house is set amidst a jungle of mango and coconut trees, very secluded away from neighbours. When my bag was delivered next day, Sanat collected it and then met me in Kozhikode to put me on a bus ack to his place, where I stayed for a second night. I slept soundly both nights and was treated to a delicious breakfast next day. Sanat also gave me several contacts to help me on my travels, which turned out to be very useful. I cannot recommend this place enough.. it is very handy for airport too, just 150rupee auto (rickshaw) ride. And a short walk to main Kozhikode-Thrissur Rd., With frequent buses passing. And quite close to Feroke train station. Right beside Calicut University, and botanical gardens.. go there!

    Andrew2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • I was choosing a place for its unique style and short distance to the Calicut international airport. Tinku organiséd a transfer for us from the airport and when we were stuck there because of luggage problems, they were waiting for us, thanks a lot! Just 15 min drive to there place, it’s situated in the small village: amazing tropical nature and 20 minutes walking distance to Calicut university campus, where you can find good food, beautiful park and botanical garden. Tha house itself is very special “tropical vintage” style, with lemon car at the entrance (wow for all photo lovers)). We were coming with baby, it was very calm and shanti, just birds singing. Important to know: there is an open terrace near by room, so parents should take care of babies. It’s available to have veg food at home and drinks (Tinku was cooking for us very healthy food). Also available to rent bike - Royal Enfild, to visit area around, river, small villages and big city Calicut. Thanks for hospitality and wish this place be full of good guests! Nataly, Vivien and Amélie.

  • We stayed the first time in a Laurie Baker style house and we were verv pleased. The room and attached bathroom were very clean. Sanats wife und his mother made our stay very pleasant. Every day we enjoyed a different Kerala-style breakfast and fantastic dinner. Tinku took us to a very interesting walk through the village and fields. We had wonderfull conversations and we will be remembering for a long time this beautifull place. We can highly recommend this place.

  • I booked a dorm and I was prepared for what I usually get to see him I book a dorm in India but to my surprise it was much more better than anywhere I have been to. I must say they have been very thoughtful and considerate while making this space.Unlike other places this place got multiple urinaries ,bathrooms and wash area enough to accomodate a big group. The only thing I missed was shower head in bathrooms. Location is beautiful and staffs are courteous.Food is delicious and cheap.I couldn't see mediation hall as I was only person staying there. I will definitely come back soon with family and friends.

  • Highly recommended if you want to be in a relaxing environment. Good food is another bonus. The road to reach Sattva (Apr 2019) is not in a good condition. Yet, Sattva will make you comfortable. I would say a 2-3 night stay is required to enjoy the property n the nearby places. Planning to visit back again soon. Thanks. Note: This is a proper resort, not a homestay kinda place.

  • Had an amazing stay in Satva for 2 nights. Great pleasure to meet Jeevan ji, Surbala and the staff. They are very courteous. The campus is beautifully placed amidst the mountains. Communication was prompt . Hassle-free check-in and checkout . The place was sparkling clean . They had gone great lengths to arrange for extra bedding. Anyone would come back jus for the hospitality and great conversations if not for other things.

  • The most hospitable people, i must say! Felt as if i was at my favourite uncle and aunts house. The food was absolutely delicious and the warmth Sekhar and Treva extended was heartwarming. The little things like giving me their motorbike so i can get around town, to making sure everything is comfortable all the time, every time are the ones that make a difference. I will definitely come back here!

  • Shekhar and Treva are amazing people and absolutely perfect hosts. This was a medical visit with my father. Treva came to the airport to pick us up and Shekhar insisted to see us of at the airport. Treva makes the best Sambhar We’ve had so far ☺ Shekhar also drove us around the at an unmatched rate and the life experience he shares over the tea is absolutely free. The house is really beautiful and the Masseuse is a magician. The location and price is just unreal. Hospitality is unmatched. Oh yes don't forget to give sweet kisses to the worlds most friendly dog Chinmui when you visit them. Chinmui also knows how to give you your space. I will definitely come back and stay.

  • I booked Coconut Crazy for mum as a weekend get away. The communication with Treva and Shekar was quick and clear. They went out of their way to make sure my mum had a pleasant and convenient stay at their place. They were kind and more than generous with everything they did ( pick up, drop, shared and cooked special food, suprise bday treat, took her around for sight seeing and what not) I would rate this experience much higher than airbnb standard. Many many thanks to both of you.

  • Treva and Shekar are wonderful hosts and warm, kind and good-humoured people, I felt at home at their place and was grateful for the care they took of me - picking me up at the crack of dawn, from the station, dropping me to Kalamandalam etc. Their home is very well kept and their two dogs are lovely.

  • We stayed with Treva and Shekar for 2 nights - they were great hosts. It was a very special way to end our time in India. Shekar picked us up from the bus station. Treva cooked delicious food. The house and garden are very well kept. The room is clean and comfortable. We shared many interesting conversations over tea, beer and meal times! They showed us around their organic garden and the tea paddies at the bottom of the lane. The property is within walking distance of the local village. It’s a peaceful location. Shekar also took us to the local Toddy Shop which was a great experience. A very interesting and accommodating couple - make sure you stay here if you are in the area!

  • Shekhar and Treva have a home for travelers away from home. Shekar came to receive me and my mom early morning at 5 a.m to railway station. This gesture really moved us. He and his wife Treva take care of their guests as family members. They will try to help you in every way going far and beyond guiding you with the locales . Our stay and trip to Kerala was comfortable since we had a good and safe place to stay. Thanks again for the hospitality and will surely visit again.

    Krishna2018-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Shekar and Treva’s place is a true ‘home’ stay: very easy where all your needs are catered for in a warm and generous way. I was really looked after well, and Shekar and Treva went out of their way to make my stay memorable. Nothing seemed to be an inconvenience and if I wanted something all I had to do is ask. The house is as described and more.... so book in and receive top treatment! They are truly uniquely gentle and generous.

  • Mr. Girish was an amazing host. He greeted us on arrival and provided us with local tips. House was very clean and comfortable. We had a very pleasant stay! Recommended 100%

    Vikram2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Surprisingly calm and serene place for family or groups who wish to relax with all amenities including milk in kitchen fridge. We had visited with our baby and grandparents and all had good words for the place and Mr Girish. He even has a good collection of books and reading lamps in each room if you are staying for a couple of days. It is about 3 kms away from Guruvayur temple so not for people who want to walk to temple or are short on time, though he can help with a cab if that suits you.

    Sayana2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Girish was a wonderful host and my stay at his place would remain as one of the best that i have had so far. Firstly, make sure you follow the instructions of Girish in finding the place as depending only on google maps (all by your own), would not be recommended. Secondly, do share your live location from a point closer (say kunnamkulam), which he can also track and be comfortable with. The Villa has 3 neatly furnished bedrooms with attached washrooms, 1 fully equipped kitchen, 1 good balcony (sad i didnt use it as i stayed only for a night)...a small lounge area where he has accommodated a TV with X box and i also saw a projector and screen. The rooms were spacious and washrooms neat and clean. he also did extend a complimentary vehicle for our darshan, which made it really easy for us, else finding a parking would have been a problem. I am sure Girish does treat all his customers the same way and I am sure he is a sign of good hospitality. Thanks Girish

  • Excellent won't be the correct word. If anything is above excellent then that should be applicable for Girish. The best place to stay in Guruyaur.

    Sk2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This villa is around 15 minutes away from the guruvayoor temple and that's the unique feature. It's located in a very serene place and noise free locality. It has got any amenity that one can ask for including the Xbox. I really enjoyed a lot and left the place with craving to stay for 1 more night. Kids are delighted to stay here. Girish is a very warm and welcoming host. He goes all out to make sure you don't have to worry about anything.

    Gaurav2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to meet a conscious, very attentive host and appreciate a lot of space in a quiet location, yet centrally located, we recommend Giris's accommodation. He organizes everything with a lot of patience at all times and always has open ears and eyes that his guests are doing well and everything is going well. Girish spares no effort in organizing whatever the guest request is. He is a first class host!

This place is truly nature's detox. Nestled far away in the Malabar hills, it is a place whose beauty is still unexplored. Out here, experience the stillness of nature, the various sights offered by different seasons, the breathtaking streams, the fresh air, the fireflies by night, feel nature fill your soul. Explore the mountain with small treks and rock climbing, play in the natural streams, take a tour of the estate and learn the history of how this place came to be.
Located far away in the interior hills of the Malabar, it was inaccessible to roads and transport for a very long time. As such, much of the ecosystem was relatively untouched. Finally development caught up with even these places whose natural beauty has been preserved since time. We now have a small window of opportunity to witness the beauty of this place before it is completely transformed by development.
There are several places of interest neaarby that you might like to visit. One is the Kakkadampoyil waterfalls. Its quiet scenic place to just relax and have a dip in the water or take a small trek in the surrounding forest. The Pazhassi caves is also nearby and is a secret cave where the 'Lion if Kerala' Keralasimham Pazhassiraja used to hide from the British. There are also forest and estate treks through which we will guide you. If walking doesn't suit you, then you can have a jeep ride over the mountain terrain of the estate, watch the daily activities in an estate and interact with the locals.

  • What an absolute delight! We reached Coimbatore for a simple getaway from the city, hoping to find a modest hideaway, but the hospitality from Mr. Harish - with his personal touches to cleanliness and fine appreciation for ambience - made our stay more than comfortable. His knowledge of local cuisines is excellent, and complemented by Mrs. Harish's fine cooking skills - what amazing and authentic meals we enjoyed. Last, but by no means least, his in depth local knowledge enabled us to find secret and safe scenic spots to relish our moments. The only regret is that we didn't plan the itinerary with him earlier - we would have loved to fit more in. We can't wait to visit again.

  • Visit this place to breathe nature; highly recommended for nature lovers. The place is away from the chaos of city & lies absolutely in the lap of nature. The resort is surrounded by a mountain water stream on one side ; rubber plantations all around & a forest nearby. You can easily find pine apple vegetations . The food served is local, authentic, freshly prepared using stuff that is grown in house. The room has a great collection of books on Yoga, Ayurveda & Indian food traditions.

Ambience was great with the mix of antique furniture and modern amenities. The perfect place to be away from the madding crowd. Saraswati was the most thoughtful and gracious host , responding to our every query quickly.

My place is ideal for people looking for a peaceful and stress free break from their monotonous and hectic routines. I cannot do justice to the place by mere words. Please drop in and experience the bliss. Also I believe it is an opportunity to learn and unlearn from my guests of various social and cultural backgrounds. It would be my pleasure hosting you. Kindly note that this is not a revenue making business for me and I'd treat my guests as family and expect the same from my guests as well.

On our farm we offer our charming 1-room, 2 verandas, kitchenette, bathroom "Kalam Cottage", with old wooden furniture, handprinted textiles, moscitonet, fan, aircooler and hot water for a bath under the sky. Sumptuous breakfast included, lunch/dinner on request at moderate rates.
We are a german-indian family happily living on our 12 acre organic farm in a semi-rural area of Kerala between the sea and the mountains; we grow coconut ,bananas, mangos , vegetables and cultivate rice; a part of our compound is forest. We have cows, hen, peacocks, cats and dogs. We run on solar and cook with biogas. Our delicious, mostly vegetarian, Kerala dishes are made of the good stuff from our farm. Our living house is an outhouse of the former landlord, and at 50 steps distance is a charming cottage for guests, where they have their privacy and still are near to the life of the place. It’s an one room (24sqm), 2 spacious Verandas, kitchenette and open bathroom cottage, built in the traditional Kerala style, windows opening to all four sides to allow the breeze go through, equipped with old wooden furniture, very good matresses, handprinted textiles, moscitonet, fan, aircooler for the hot season, a coffee/tea cooking facility, hot water for a bath under the sky. This offer goes with a good breakfast, coffee/tea and fresh drinking water. Lunch and dinner we can also provide at reasonable rates. We keep our premises super clean and hygienic.
Even the towns in India are changing at a breathtaking speed, the countryside and it's people remain relatively untouched by this. They live their live embedded in their ancient traditions, keep their rituals and customs (with a few exceptions: mobile phones, for example), and still revolve around the nature and the seasons. They didn't learn the refined tactics and techniques of modern global life (yet)
  • I stayed 10 days at Susanne’s place with a friend. If you want to discover the countryside in Kerala, this is THE place not to miss! The typical Kerala’s bungalow, where we were living, was beautiful and had all the amenities you need to feel confortable: fridge, plenty of filtred water, nice snacks, ceiling fans, open air toilet, etc. The homemade breakfasts were amazing : delicious, big portion, healthy. We also enjoyed lunch and dinner: always exciting to discover what we will eat! We also dId different activities: the cattle market on thursday was really something great to discover! We visited the Kathakali school. We went tobThrissur, where I had my left nostril pierced. We went to Nelliyampathy mountain and discover tea and coffee plantations. We had a sari afternoon: we tried sari with Suzanne and her Kerala girls! We had lunch in a typical Kerala family, we also had an Ayurvedic massage, etc. Many things to discover in this area! Above place, food and activities Suzanne is an inspiring person. She cares about her guests and can guide you according to your interests. She’s the soul of this Air B&B ...really, to discover a farm with dogs, cats, cows...this is THE place!

  • The Kotten of Susanne is an indescribably beautiful quiet and relaxing place to stay. Man is in the middle of nature, the exotic animals offer a melodious nature concert. The food, three meals a day, was delicious, cheap and lovingly prepared by their four Indian girls. I will never forget the colorfoil stamp festival that I visited with Susanne, with penetrating drumsticks, dancers and musicians, incredibly beautiful. Susanne is the perfect hostess with her open-mindedness. Thank you very much for this highlight my indian journey.

  • Susannes little cottage was very comfortable and well set out. We enjoyed being in our own little garden area with resident birds, frogs, chickens, and butterflies . We ate all of our meals at Susannes and the food was excellent! Fresh, and often grown by the family. Susanne was a warm, friendly, and accomodating host. She kindly showed us around her property and we ate lunches with the family which was very nice. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a charming Kerala experience.

  • Susanne, is a lovely host, you have a wonderful house and it's perfect for person who wants to get away from from the hustle bustle of city and look for some peace. It started with Susanne's hospitality, when she came to the road to pick us up. We entered a beautiful place with paddy fields all around us and two quaint little cottages . We were welcomed by her, given a quick tour of the room. What made the difference was her thoughtfulness, there was juice, sweets and fruits kept for us to relish. We had a lovely home cooked kerela meal, which was absolutely yummy and healthy, dinner was also so yummy. The best was the breakfast, was so wonderful yummy and different with homemade jams, butter and bread. Overall an extremely lovely getaway that we needed after a hectic work week!!

    Padmini2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • I had the most magical stay at Susanne’s cottage. Her home is warm and authentic, as well as her energy loving and genuine. This is the place where you can unwind and forget all the worries. Either you are reading a book on the terrace watching the birds or enjoying a cup of chai in the open kitchen or taking a bath in an outdoor shower, you are guaranteed privacy and tranquility. Only locals villagers, colorful peacocks, and well cared for cows can “intrude” your relaxation. Being an artist and a farmer herself, Susanne made sure the house is beautifully decorated and the Keralan food you are served is homemade and flavorful. I can’t wait to be back. I highly recommend staying there if you are looking for a true peace and an authentic Indian homestay.

  • Susanne’s place is a fabulous retreat. A little haven. Calm, peaceful, and welcoming. The place is as described, and Susanne goes to a lot of trouble to make sure you’re OK and gives good guidance. The cottage is cleaned everyday and if you take the meal options then these are excellent. All needs are met really well. There’s ample space to take in the wonderfully quiet sounds of the birds from the balcony. Susanne’s place is thoroughly recommended.

    Nick2017-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Susanne is a very pleasant and attentive host. She obviously enjoys chatting with guests and can answer any questions you may have about India and the local region. The area is good for seeing how ordinary Indians go about their daily lives, rather than offering any spectacular tourist sights and is therefore perfect for relaxing. The accommodation is very comfortable and peaceful (except for the birdsong!!) and the home-cooked food, healthy and delicious.

    Charlotte2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about the stay in Susannes cottage has a class refreshingly surprising in a place like Kerala. It's superclean, well organized and has a class of luxury no commercial establishments can offer.
