Places to stay in North Island
Overlooking west coast. Extremely private, quiet and idyllic. Watch surf break from bed deck or spa. Rustic. Flush toilet & hot shower in small rooms adjoining the studio. Practically off grid. Surrounded by native trees. Bush walks, beach, lake nearby. A real favourite with honeymooners, babymooners and people wanting to get away from it all.
Self contained studio overlooking west coast. Extremely private, quiet and idyllic. Lie in bed and watch the surf break. Deck and BBQ. Hot tub with a view. This place is rustic. Flush toilet and hot shower but in small rooms beside the studio. Practically off the grid. A real getaway. Limited cell phone coverage and no TV, just DVD's, books and the sound of birds. 40 minutes drive from central Auckland. Fantastic views. Beautiful grounds full of natives. 3 minute drive to beach. Close to many excellent walking tracks. Track to the Lake is 5 minutes walk away.
Classic west coast New Zealand. The stunning Bethells lake is safe swimming and gets lovely and warm in the summer. Great walks in the bush beach sand dunes. You are also right on the Hiliary trail one of the most beautiful walks in New Zealand.
  • We stayed here after our Wedding and it was amazingly peaceful, beautiful and quiet. The hot tub is dreamy and the view is to die for. Thank you Anna.

  • The best place we've ever stayed. Such a beautiful cabin with the best view. Would recommend everyone to book 2 or 3 nights or a week. Or longer!! You don't even have to leave the house to have a perfect holiday.

    Isabelle Renate2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The location or view from the house (and even from the bed!) Is just fantastic and we had a great stay.

    Verena2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying in Bethells Beach! The cabin was a short drive away from the beach, and the views from the cabin are outstanding. For us, the hot tub really made this spot perfect. And the cabin felt so private and secluded which was great! Highly recommend!

    Lindsey2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place off the beaten path for a get away. Be sure to check out the nearby lake and go shopping before you get here!

    Galen2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! We had such a great time here! Anna‘s place has a stunning view and a lot of beautiful little details. We did a beautiful walk to the lake as Anna had recommended to us. And at night: you sit in the hot tub and look at the stars - perfect!

    Phillip2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don’t do this place justice, far better than we expected. We brought a lot of food with us and we had plenty to keep us busy in the area. We are definitely coming back next year. Watching the stars from the hot tub will be a fond memory for us. Thank you Anna, for being such a wonderful host.

The Nest — Coastal Escape was crafted to provide freedom from the stresses of life and allow Guests to reset in natural surroundings. The result is a dreamy off grid sanctuary perched high on the rugged, west coast cliffs overlooking the Tasman Sea.
Sleep/Lounge — The most important quality of any Nest is the comfort it gives its occupants. The Nest — Coastal Escape is no exception. Sink into the lush King bed and let the crashing waves drown out life's constant noise. After a well deserved sleep in, move from the cosiness of the bed to the comfort of the couch and continue to drink in the dreamy surroundings. Eat — A memorable meal is made of more than the sum of its ingredients. Combine the kitchenette at The Nest with its expansive sea views to create memories that stay with you long after the last bite. Powered by solar and natural gas, the off grid kitchenette includes a mini fridge, gas burner and large sink. For the more adventurous, take the experience further by gathering food from The Nest's environment or cooking by fire on the beach under the stars. Bathe — If the trickle of the river and roar of the ocean leaves you longing to dive in, soak in the steamy waters of The Nest's outdoor bath. Ease in with a friend and watch the Milky Way float by overhead. Or cleanse your skin of the sea's salt in the recently renovated bathroom, which includes a new shower, toilet and basin.
The area surrounding The Nest is rugged New Zealand nature at its most untouched. Black sand beaches, wind swept clifftops, a winding river and undisturbed lake. All pointing west towards the setting Sun. The area is waiting to be discovered. If the elements conspire against you or the need for Barista coffee becomes too great, the closest urban fix can be found in Opunake, a ten minute drive from The Nest. Although it is not a large town, Opunake boasts all you need and nothing more, including several eateries, supermarkets, a boutique cinema and popular patrolled beach. The Hosts encourage all guests to support local businesses when visiting the area. The Nest is located deep within the Taranaki region, an area well regarded for its natural beauty. A landscape dominated by the mountain, Taranaki Te Maunga, and surrounded by the Tasman Sea. It is one of the few places in the world where you can catch a wave and hit the slopes in the same day. Taranaki is also home to a growing number of Arts and Cultural experiences. Explore the stunning displays at the Len Lye Centre and Puke Ariki Museum or time your stay with the WOMAD and Americarna Festivals. The Hosts are both born and bred in the region so can provide plenty of suggestions based on the Guests' interests.
  • Perfect place for a wee getaway. Beautiful location and accommodation, would highly recommend.

  • This little bungalow was one of our favorite stays! Pictures do not do it justice! It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed! Highly recommend.

  • Just perfect! If you like the sound of the sea, the loneliness on the beach and great sunsets, you will keep this place in your heart for a lifetime!

  • This is an amazing spot for a romantic getaway. Beautiful views, decor and the sound of the ocean - can't be beat! Note: 4 wheel drive of a higher car is recommended, there are some tricky hills to get over on way in.

Hi I am Edward, I built this escape to help pay off my student loan! This escape is a 2 part tiny home nestled at the base of Taranaki with unmatched mountain views. 15 mins from town and the beach, a stone throw to the mountain and bike tracks this self-contained tiny home is a perfect spot for those wishing to visit Taranaki for an adventure or to unwind. Powered from both solar panels and hydro turbines, this place is as "off-the-grid" as it gets. Insta : @ecoescape
On the wider property (my parents home and business) there is a lake with kayaks, farm animals, row boat, gardens, walkways all of which are available for you to explore and use. We do our best to be self-sufficient and sustainable and hence have gardens for our own food production. At time of plenty guest are free to take for the gardens - just ask Linda first. We try our very best to recycle as much as we can, so please help us out in doing so. For more information please check out the Instagram page: @ecoescape Please note: One of the beds is up a vertical ladder in a loft space, this bed is only suitable for those that are fit and able to climb up and down. All outside areas are open for the guests to visit. Young children must be supervised at all times as the lake, stream and farms animals are a potential safety hazard. The bush walkways can be very slippery when wet, so please walk carefully and do not run.
The neighbourhood is rural, you have to look to see other properties.
  • Amazing view of the mountain while lying in bed. Everything we needed was provided. We stayed toasty warm with the wood stove. I highly recommend this place for a great stay!

    Linda2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Inspiring to say the least. This off-grid hideaway is an incredible example of tiny house living at its best. A retreat away from it all, with a very well thought out offering of all the comforts you would expect from any top Airbnb. We loved the outdoor bathtub, gazing at star studded skies, and the perfect framed view of the mountain. We will be back!

    Sophia2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Simply amazing!

    Klara2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway for a couple to cook, relax, take baths under the stars, go on hikes and enjoy coffee shops in New Plymouth. This tiny home provides opportunity to experience living off grid where you can see how easy it could be to change small habits to make a large impact.

    Kaitlyn2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space! Would recommend and I hope one day I can come back.

    Melissa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and peaceful time at the Ecoscape. If you love nature and being in the wilderness, this is the place for you! You're surrounded by lush vegetation and the view of Taranaki just blows the mind. I could stay there all night long just watching that mountain. The Ecoscape is obviously well built, with quality materials, full of amenities (we loved the gas stove), bathroom is clean with a nice shower. Only small downside is that you're surrounded by bugs of all kind (flies, mosquitos, spiders, etc) that can come inside the house, so if you're afraid of that, that's probably not the right place for you. Otherwise, you'll have a great time!

    Caroline2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This ecoescape is the perfect getaway in nature 🌿 Views of the Mt are stunning (when she decides to say hello), the bed is so comfortable, many games provided for a cloudy/rainy day, & a fully equipped kitchen. 100% recommend this slice of green heaven! 🌱

    Tasha2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The ecoescape is exactly as pictured and well worth the stay! We had a brilliant time escaping the city for a bit of peace and quiet. While the weather meant we couldn't quite see Mt Taranaki, it still made for a beautiful spot to reconnect and disconnect from the outside world :) The hosts were exceptional and the cabin was super clean and well thought out in design. We'll definitely be back!!

"The Chocolate Yurt" is a fully insulated 6m yurt with a skylight to gaze at the stars at night. A private retreat in the native bush with outdoor kitchen with cooking facilities and bath/shower, both with amazing views of the Motueka river valley and the Tasman Bay beyond.
Our yurt resides in an eco village in the Motueka river valley, 15 minutes from Motueka. The handcrafted wooden furniture gives it a warm, inviting atmosphere. A woodburner provides warmth for the winter months.
Our yurt is surrounded by native bush and often you wake up with the song of the bellbird and fall asleep with the sound of the morepork. Our neighbours are all happily living in this beautiful spot
  • Very nice place to stay and relax! Amazing views and also very eco friendly.

    Nick2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • All we can say is WOW! The most amazing, peaceful and luxury place. Our favourite Air BnB ever, we highly recommend this place to anyone, we will be booking to come back again later on in the year. The outdoor shower was a highlight for us. If you need to have a break, this is the place to come with the birds chirping in the morning it can't get any better. Thanks so much again, Amy & Kane

    Amy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our mini getaway to the yurt. Everything has been built and is operated with love, care and thoughtfulness. It’s such a peaceful retreat and we’ll certainly be returning and are already recommending it to friends. Thank you to Tessa, Remko and family for the experience x

    Emily2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot express the uniqueness of the stay. It was perfect in every way and so much more than expected. Our hosts made the experience perfect. This will be a holiday we will remember for a very long time. Book with no reservation, you will love this yurt!

    George2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to relax and unwind. The views are fantastic and the yurt is cosy and comfortable. It was so good to enjoy such a basic yet enriching way of living, we would have liked to stay longer.

    Joyce2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Can not speak more highly of Tessa and Remkos yurt and our whole experience staying in such beautiful surroundings. The yurt is cozy and creates a sense of calm the moment you step in. The surroundings are stunning, go explore! We recommend you have the offered breakfast because its yummy and the perfect way to start the day. Tessas massage is a wonderful addition too. After weeks of chronic shoulder pain I floated out feeling not just physically better but mentally and emotionally positive. You will not regret staying in this special place and meeting these special people.

    Shane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brand new to the Yurtlife Experience and would love to do it all over again! The views were amazing and the baths were brilliant! As for the yurt itself it was warm the bed was amazing! Remko was a fabulous host and gave us a little tour when we arrived !

    Simon2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is indescribably beautiful! We immediately felt at home and enjoyed every moment. The outdoor kitchen and shower have their very own charm. I have never showered with such a beautiful view! I can recommend the accommodation to anyone who is looking for peace and relaxation and wants to be in the middle of nature. A small Weka family also visited us from time to time

CORONOVIRUS UPDATE - For the safety of our guests we are disinfecting all surfaces in all areas between guests. Mattress protectors, pillow protectors are washed between guests. Tissues are provided. We appreciate your support in these difficult times. The treehouse is built up in the pine trees on our 35 acre property and has an amazing view over pasture, native bush and the ocean. It’s for young romantics (at heart), and adventurous types who want a special experience, not just accommodation. Follow us @TinyHouseEscapesRaglan for notifications on cancellations if the dates you want are not available. Our rate is all inclusive (except for Airbnb service fee). PLEASE NOTE: This is a treehouse, built up (and amongst) the pine trees. If it is windy, the trees will creak around you. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about windy weather. The treehouse foundations have been built to the specifications of a Registered Structural Engineer and the treehouse has full consent from Council, so the building is safe. Inside there is: • A small, fully equipped kitchen with sink and gas cooktop. • A beautiful and clean bathroom with hot shower and flushing toilet. • A comfy built in couch that can be used for snuggling (or an extra guest). • A queen-sized futon bed in the upstairs loft (with luxury bed linen) with an amazing view out a window to the ocean. Outside, there is: • A large deck with a small table, deck chairs and a BBQ for outdoor dining and relaxing. We supply: • Morning Glory organic coffee, tea and sugar, olive oil • All bed linen, towels, dish cloths, and cleaning products. • Ecostore NZ shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash • Candles, magazines and books. • Bug spray to keep the bugs away • A detox from technology, if you choose to, there is no mobile coverage at the treehouse but you can connect to WIFI at some spots from the treehouse. • A UE Bluetooth speaker to listen to your downloaded tunes. Check out Cool Things To Do In Raglan on Tiny Houses Raglan. If the Treehouse is not available for the dates that you're looking for: Follow us @TinyHouseEscapesRaglan for notifications on cancellations. Or check out our other listings on the same property, airbnb.com/h/raglanlovebus and airbnb.com/h/raglanlovenest ADVENTUROUS THINGS: There are lots of adventurous things you can do whilst with us and we've left a few ideas for you in the treehouse. One of these things is a beautiful bush/stream walk (on our property) down towards the cliff/ocean, to a huge old Puriri tree where you can have a picnic. You’ll walk through the field, then through native bush and down to the stream, past a waterfall and then to the Picnic tree. The walk will take you 10-15 mins to get there and it’s a moderate level with downhill/uphill sections. It’s beautiful so we recommend giving it a go. If you want to do this then please bring some gumboots or suitable walking shoes.
We are located on the edge of Mount Karioi, just 4kms from Raglan's famous surf breaks; Manu Bay, Whale Bay and Indicators. Te Toto Gorge is just up the road. We have a beautiful bush walk on our property and there are also some Mt Karioi bush walks accessed from Te Toto Gorge and the Karioi Backpackers Lodge.
  • What a great little place to stay at with an unbeatable view. Thanks!

    Joshua2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly what you can expect, a beautiful treehouse away from it all, but still a nice driving distance to Raglan.

    Jared2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! An amazing location and brilliant experience!

    Georgia2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed here for one night and it absolutely took our breath away. Perfect location- pine forest behind you, ocean in front with a beautiful sunset. The treehouse itself was so adorable and sweet, had everything you would need and was filled with really cute touches (tea/coffee, map of the local area, books etc). Honestly the location left us speechless. Couldn’t recommend the treehouse more :) Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your beautiful treehouse! All the best, Jack and Sarah

    Jack2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is simply amazing, peaceful and amazing views. Recommend to anyone wanting to get back to basics Loved it

    Derek2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Unique experience close to local bush walks and stunning views. The walk on the property was fun but a lot more difficult than we expected - probably because of the first rain in months earlier in the day.

    Stephanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A Tree House in the forest with an ocean view, wow amazing. This rustic tiny home up in the trees is a very unique experience. The large outside deck with a barbecue, dining area and relaxing bean bag chair is a wonderful place to hang out and enjoy the views and ambience. The upstairs loft sleeping area is perfect with a window to open for a fresh night breeze. ( we stayed here in a very hot dry period) The small but open floor plan on the main floor makes very good use of space. The smell of the forest, the sounds of the birds, and distant waves adds to the relaxation. We will cherish and remember our time here.

    Elma2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a special experience! Definitely a must if visiting Raglan. A perfect getaway in a very well designed tiny house amongst stunning views and nature. Very well equipped and luxury bedding and cookware :) Beautiful owners who are ever so helpful with two sweet friendly doggies!

  • This place is absolutely stunning! Would 100% stay again. So many native birds and surrounded by native bush yet only a short drive to the shops - rather ideal.

  • We loved our stay here! The host showed us everything and gave some useful tips for the day. If you have a car, dont miss piha beach and kitekite falls. If you dont, visit the nearby zigzag track.

  • Definitely book this place whenever you get the chance! Surrounded by native bush, all you hear are cicadas and tuis (and so many other birds), very private and serene. Kim is a great host, gives thorough directions, and very hospitable. Could not recommend more!

    Lacy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z

  • Slice of bach / tiny house heaven in the woods, just wish we could have stayed for longer. Charming and cosy, the whole place was on point. Perfect for a couples romantic get away or a solo city escape.

    Alex2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had a great stay at the misty mountain hut, it was secluded, surrounded by luscious green trees. The hut itself was a cool place to stay for two nights- stylish with everything you need amenity wise. The only issue for us was my wife being 6 month pregnant at the time, the outdoor toilet wasn’t ideal as she was up multiple times a night to use it! Whilst we were there we couldn’t use the fireplace due to restrictions because of weather, or the bath due to water restrictions. Antje was very honest about these issues and compensated us for the inconvenience! We had a lovey stay all in all!

  • Beautiful place: the suite is cozy and inviting. The bed was comfortable and provided restful sleep. Views were amazing and the nearby track was a great walk. Highly recommended.

  • Yve's place was the perfect place to spend the last few days of our holiday. The accommodation is spacious, clean and very comfortable. Yve kindly left us breakfast provisions. The location is great for leaving your car and catching a bus straight into the centre of Auckland - bus stop less than 5 minutes walk away.

    Jenny2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • A very lovely space and location. The pool adds an extra dimension although we didn't use it. The bed was very comfortable and the living and dining facilities were great. The internet and TV worked well. The kitchen is a bit awkward across from the bathroom but there was a sliding door which could separate the two. The cooking facilities were a simple two burner hot plate which was adequate but not great as the counter space was limited.

    Thorsten2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is amazing! The view over the sea is superb, the pool is big enough for nice swimming under the sun. The apartment has everything and is a nice place to relax after visiting the city centre or the beach.

It’s absolutely beautiful so we definitely recommend giving it a go. If you want to do this then please bring some gumboots or suitable walking shoes.
We are located just 4-5kms from Raglan's famous surf breaks; Manu Bay, Whale Bay and Indicators. Te Toto Gorge is just up the road. There are also some beautiful bush walks on our property as well as just down the road.
  • Beautiful location, was very sad to leave! The place has everything you need, and if it’s not available (such as the fridge) the host lets you know well in advance your options!

  • The love bus doesnt disappoint!! Its just as it is on the listing. The location is secluded yet close enough to the beaches of raglan, the views from the bus are just stunning especially during sunset! Thoroughly recommend anyone who enjoys a little quiet break away from the hustle and bustle to come here.

    Riz2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic view and quite scenery to get away from it all. The Love Bus had lots of thoughtful touches and was a great place to relax. We will be back.

    Megan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • There are so many things we loved about the love bus! Number 1 is the view - so so amazing I loved looking out from the deck and bath to the hills and ocean. The bus itself was very clean and tidy, nice linen on the bed and a really funky little space. There was enough room to put up a porta cot for our little one. We felt very relaxed and happy to be off grid for a few days to hang out and chill without the distraction of technology.

  • Absolutely wonderful! The hot tub and views were spectacular.

  • Jessie’s place was absolutely beautiful, clean, comfortable, and stylish. Wonderful view and a positive, bright atmosphere. Jessie was super easy to communicate with. I will definitely stay here again next time I’m in New Zealand.

  • It was beautiful, very clean and comfortable. Good for two people. 15 minute drive to Napier. 30 minutes to Cape Kidnappers. Great dinner at Gin Trap in Ahuriri.

  • Gorgeous space in Hawke’s Bay! We absolutely adored this cute guest house & all the amazing views. Way better than a sterile hotel. Jess was easy to communicate with and keeps the space very tidy. The spa was a great touch, we enjoyed star gazing each night. We visited in Feb, so local vineyards were scaring birds off with shots / horns throughout the day, but it’s honestly not a big deal at all and should be expected by anyone who knows vineyards. Don’t be a pain about this, gain the full experience and spend your days out & about anyway!! We would 💯 stay here again & highly recommend to other awesome travelers.

    Megan2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice and well equiped studio with a beautiful view and great spa. Communication with Jessie was great too. Thanks!

    Bruce2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views, stylish clean place, everything you need for a relaxing night and the hot tub was a plus!

    Julie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, clean and tidy studio. Fast communication from host. Beautiful country setting overlooking the vineyards. Studio is quite close to main house though, closer than expected, but hosts gave us plenty of privacy. We were kindly refunded our second nights stay. We were looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway (baby moon) and unfortunately during harvesting season the local vineyard has a bird scarer driving up and down the vines - beeping the horn and shooting a gun. Jessie did give us the heads up after we had booked but I didn’t know what to expect and it ended up being constant, every 10-minutes from 6.45am in the morning. Otherwise outside of harvesting time there wouldn’t be any issues:)

  • Viv, Your Cabin was a very sparkling clean place we cannot believe the view this cabin has for a fair price as well. This Cabin Viv told us it was made from 85% Recycled material but we cannot believe that it was since the craftsmanship of the whole place was well thought out from the windows, doors and sinks everything was robust and perfect for our stay. Also most importantly, You are an amazing host. Very knowledgeable and honoured to meet a 5th generation kiwi. As well as your warm welcome and fast response was impeccable. 10/10 5 Star Excellent A must stay. Many Thanks, Chris+Lorretta

  • We had an absolutely marvellous time at Tea’s idyllic little spot. The most spectacular of views, in the middle of your own beach with the treat of warm running water if you need it. We enjoyed a comfortable and relaxing stay and would love to come back.

  • Tea was an incredible host and her property accommodated my family group in the best way. We took advantage of the basic set-up by cooking in the open kitchen every night and eating under the stars. You cannot beat the location or views here! Fishing and diving in the area is amazing too. Bring a few extra lanterns and you'll be set. I would 100% return and recommend to others.

  • This was our first stay in an AirBnb property and it was 5 star all around. Excellent property and superb host, everything was so simple and smooth. We really felt welcomed and felt right at home for our stay. Very central to all areas we wanted to visit. This property is high quality and is great value for money, highly recommend.

Beautiful, private hideaway with amazing views over the Waikato river and farmland. Only a few minutes drive to closest supermarket, Mystery Creek events centre, The Velodrome and Hamilton City. A nice walk down the road to the famous Punnet cafe also, and a local 4 square ( convenience store). This cottage has everything you need, including a full kitchen with dish drawer and oven, a washing machine and heat pump/Air con. All linen provided and basic breakfast supplies.
Homely cottage that has almost everything you need, we don’t have a clothes dryer is all! The breakfast supplies are very basic-in case of emergency style, or midnight snack. All you need to do is let me know your arrival time and the cottage will be open for you. It is very dark here at night due to the rural location, please use a torch when walking to and from your car as there is no power for lighting unfortunately.
Walking distance to the amazing Punnet eatery and Country Providore gift store- well worth a visit for brunch!! We also have a new 4 square convenience store just down the road, and a New World supermarket in the opposite direction within 4kms. There are footpaths in a 6km walking loop which include both stores.
  • Great unit, clean, spacious with everything for you to cook at home if you do not want to eat out. Great vista overlooking the river. Very relaxing.

  • Jacqui’s private guest house is located on a rural estate with heavenly views and a gorgeous upscale home away from home. Modern, beautiful with a washer and wonderful high tech amenities... what more could you want? The sunset was breath taking and we will be coming back. So much privacy. The photos don’t do it justice. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic or nature getaway.

    Brian2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Yet another unforgettable experience in this air bnb! Jacqui is an amazing host and the house is absolutely wonderful. Very clean, amazing amenities and amazing views of the rolling meadows and the Waikato river. The city is only an 11 min drive away. I would 100% recommend Jacqui's place to everyone. I'm already planning my next stay here!

    Ronak2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui's place was amazing - the best we stayed at on our trip. Great private location overlooking the river and country side, fantastic amenities including a great little kitchen, comfy bed and good water pressure in the shower. Breakfast included was a lovely touch too. We even got a little visit from a puppy who wandered over from the main house to say hello. Would absolutely stay here again!

    Claire2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in a great location! We spent two nights here and went to Hobbiton, Waitomo caves and Rotorua. The place is neat and tidy and very clean! There is onsite parking, the unit is very secluded and we didn’t even see our hosts (not that we needed anything as everything was supplied!) beautiful sunsets and clear bright stars can be seen at night. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend! Thanks!

    Tom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully appointed, self contained cabin with the most amazing views of the Waikato river and a bird watching paradise! A great location as within easy reach of Auckland, Hamilton, the Waitomo caves and Rotorua so a great base from which to travel around. Jacqui was a great host and allowed us privacy but was always on hand if we had any questions. We also had the bonus of Jacqui’s friendly black Labrador paying us an occasional visit! Would definitely recommend staying here.

Unique backpacker accommodation for alternative travellers! Stay in our little tree house, made from all recycled materials and overlooking the hills of the Akatarawa... It's warm and cozy with a heater and electric blanket for a warm bed. Free WiFi and power in the hut, and a firebath below! Perfect place to unwind!
Dreamt of living in a tree hut as a child? - Come and stay in ours! It's SMALL (only 2m by 2m - take note if you're very tall!) but cozy and quirky and our guests have described it as a 'nest in the trees'. If you're expecting modern style white wall fancy luxury accommodation, this is NOT for you - our place is very real, friendly, full of life and somewhat 'bohemian'. You'll hear the wind and the birds and wake up to views of the hills! There's a small desk, power and internet in the hut if you want to work on your travel blog - and a firebath beside it. The tree hut is on a lifestyle block with lots of pets - great for children (but keep supervised)! We have two border collies plus a neighbours dog on the property so if dogs are not your thing at all this may not be for you. If you are travelling with a family, consider renting our inside room (also listed here) and have the kids stay in the hut. Fun times!!
We are centrally located between Wellington, the Kapiti Coast and the Wairarapa - all desirable tourist regions! We're right next to the Karapoti mountainbike trails, the Rimutaka Cycle trail, the Hutt River trail and the Akatarawa Forest - near Staglands Wildlife reserve and close to Upper Hutt township (7 min by car).
  • Staying in a tree house was a great experience. Natalie and her family have a passion for sustainability and it was great to see and hear about some of the work that they're doing. This is a really special place. I recommend exploring the grounds and walking down to the river, if you're lucky you might be joined by one of their collies (they are lovely dogs!). Thank you for your hospitality Natalie!

    Clare2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a warm and cozy place as well as warm and intelligent hosts Natalie & Sean are very special people and I cannot say enough positive things about this magic spot.

    Patrick2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is an awesome space at Natalie’s beautiful home. We loved the gardens and the incredible river (definitely bring togs). The entire family was very kind and attentive and answered any questions we had. The dogs were definitely one of our favourite features and they even joined us for a swim. I would love to come back in the future. 10/10

    Myriah2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Such a perfect escape! Simply wonderland with a small stroll to a swimming hole! The kitchen access was perfect and Flek serenaded us while we enjoyed our meal. One of the most unique places I’ve stayed!

    Kalynn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I felt very comfortable in the tree house! It is small and cozy. I also really liked the wild garden, the access to the river, the nice and open hosts and the companionship of the dogs when going for a swim. It is possible to go into the house at any time. Only the nightly walk through the darkness to the toilet was a little difficult for me. But has anyone ever seen a tree house with a toilet? I unfortunately do not...

    Julia2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is very special, the pictures only hint at what awaits. I booked 3 nights and could have stayed an extra 3. I would recommend spending a day relaxing at the property enjoying the gardens and the river (spent 5 hours swimming and napping down by the river with a picnic lunch = bliss). There are forest/ bush walks nearby for people wanting to explore the area, lovely to finish a day of tramping with a cool evening swim in the river. The tree hut experience is magical, recycled wood with stylish interior panelling and lots of natural light - a lovely way to wake up. I felt like I had privacy and also enjoyed the interaction with the fantastic hosts who are interesting people doing their bit for the environment. It’s inspiring. Less than an hour’s drive from central city Wellington, this is not for people looking to get away from the city whilst still expecting the convenience of city living. I would say It’s more for people who want/ prefer to live life in the ‘smug’ lane and reconnect with the elements but without the tent and camping paraphernalia :). Highly recommend.

  • Lovely place, lovely host. Deidre always replies so if you need anything, you can always ask her. It was a very relaxing time for my partner and I (we stayed during the day instead of overnight, which Deidre has allowed us to do, even prior to booking). What you see in the pictures is what is definitely offered and would definitely recommend it to my friends!

  • Gillian and Steve were wonderful hosts, and went above and beyond for us. We arrived at the cusp of the Covid-19 outbreak and they offered support in many ways, we're very grateful to them. The location was lovely, and was just what me and my partner needed, a lovely relaxing retreat, close to many beaches and hiking trails. The bed was very comfortable, it had good WiFi and cooking facilities, it was relatively easy to get to (a car is a necessity!) and we had a great time. We would highly recommend staying here 😁

    Jack2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little cottage that is both cosy to cuddle down in, and open to the lovely surroundings of Muriwai. It is private enough to feel comfortable, but close enough to the hosts to feel looked after.

    Baz2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was the perfect place to enjoy a couple of days of relaxation. It's just minutes from Muriwai Beach and surrounded by nature. Gillian was the perfect host and made sure I had everything I needed.

    Lara2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Gillian’s place was a wonderful place to stay just outside of Auckland. My wife and I really enjoyed our visit and will recommend to anybody who might be traveling in the area!!

    Drew2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Gillian for a wonderful stay! A perfect start to a perfect trip!

    Vera2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Muriwai homestead for two nights after our wedding. The setting was perfect, in a beautiful rural location nearby to Muriwai Beach. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and stylish. Gillian went out of her way to ensure we had a lovely stay and added extra touches welcoming us as newly wed couple which was very much appreciated! Would highly recommend.

    Philip2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Gillian & Steve made me feel very welcome during my stay. The property itself is on a beautiful smallholding in the middle of rolling hills and yet It took me just one hour to drive back to the airport upon my departure. Comfiest bed in the southern hemisphere!

    Gabriel2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Gillians' cottage was the perfect getaway for my husband and I to get some R&R in after some hectic days in the south island! The cottage is the perfect distance from wineries and beaches alike. The property is so beautiful and has everything a couple could need! Gillian and her husband Steven are absolutely lovely. You can tell they've really thought through all the details of how to make their cottage a special place. They were communicative and helpful.

Ica View Glamping is more than a place to crash for the night. It’s an off the grid glamping experience. Situated on a hill top overlooking the breathtaking Ica Valley.
  • We spent a weekend at Alex’s place and it was a fantastic experience. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle and go “off the grid” for a day or two, or longer! Great touches with the hot chocolates and bubble bath too!

    Matt2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an experience! This is the sort of thing you should do at least once in your life, if not more! We had a great night escaping from the connected world. Wine, cheese, and the wilderness! Alex is a great host, with a great attitude and sense of humour. Hands down the best stay in the northern island. Would 110% stay there again.

    Leon2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful retreat- as others have said, we only wished we could have stayed longer. The cabin is beautiful and full of really thoughtful touches- hot water bottles, dressing gowns, bubble bath and blankets. The outside bath is magical, especially while watching the sun set. Oh, and the hot chocolate is incredible! Alex is a great host - quick and easy to communicate with and met us on arrival. We’ll be back!

    Rachel2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place and so peaceful! Alex, you’re a great host. Lots of people have already asked where it is on my Instagram post haha. We loved our stay!

    Emma2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is my favorite Airbnb that I have ever been to. It is the PERFECT place to get away. Absolutely stunning views, amazing touches from the hosts, tranquil and delightful. Can not recommend enough. Off the grid = the perfect way to relax and slow down. Alex is awesome. He got us set up perfectly, and his mum makes a mean hot chocolate. Will definitely be returning.

    Eliza2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome, quirky and unique. A great place to unwind and destress. Highly recommended.

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This ‘glamping’ experience offered everything we had hoped for - and more. Alex has created a remarkably remote and private site. Although completely isolated in terms of connectivity and neighbours, thoughtful touches make a really great impression. The bathroom was spotless and worked well. The bbq and local breakfast supplies were great. The bed was comfortable, but the heated outdoor bath was the star of the show. What a way to star gaze. I was keen to photograph the Milky Way and was lucky enough to enjoy a crystal clear night with no cultural lighting what so ever (almost impossible these days). I was delighted with the stunning photos I achieved. My wife is NOT an advocate of camping but she enjoyed our night enormously. Enough said!

    Kevin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing 1 night getaway that felt like we had been away for a week. Very thoughtful extra touches so that we had everything we needed and more. The clouds cleared to give the best stargazing experience with a few shooting stars in the mix. Would recommend to anyone that wants to get off the grid with a few sheep to keep them company.

  • Wow, what a spot, beautiful decorations and furniture, outdoor baths are amazing! Alpacas (they are not lamas everybody) are really friendly and funny to watch. Thanks again.

  • If you want to experience the peace and tranquility that NZ has to offer, you need to stay in Mark’s home! It is beautifully decorated, and in a lovely farm setting. They provided everything we needed, including warm croissants, juice, and fruit for breakfast! Mark is delightful host, and was very helpful in recommending somewhere for dinner! We would have loved to stay longer. You won’t be disappointed!

    Sue2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Best Airbnb we’ve stayed in, and we’ve stayed in many! The house is beautiful and the location excellent as a base for exploring the area. Thoughtful touches such as ciders and chocolate in the fridge, the baths set into the deck are amazing, and the views sublime. Mark is friendly and communication before and during our stay was excellent. Can’t recommend enough.

    Brad2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Hilly House was above and beyond any Airbnb experience I've ever had. Not only was the house spacious, modern, and wonderfully decorated, but the addition of the surrounding scenery, the cows mooing, breakfast brought by Mark in the morning, and the deck baths under a sky full of stars make it the most perfect place for some much needed self-care. Or in our case, a romantic honeymoon stay. I cannot recommend this Airbnb highly enough. Don't think twice, just book it. We'll definitely be back to enjoy it again.

    Amy2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Mark was amazing! He went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. 10/10 would reccomend The Hilly House and definitely hope to be back

    Maddison2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best place I have ever stayed in (Airbnb-wise), I would definitely come back again if I ever travel through NZ in the future (definite)! The location was amazing-stars at night, soaps and bathtub outside to chill drink wine and enjoy the hilly views. The building was super comfortable and stylish (absolutely loved it), the alpacas were super friendly and the dogs were super sweet! (the alpacas came right up to the car as we were unpacking, originally gave me a jump to see a head of black hair bob around the other side of the car 😂). Stay here, you will not regret it!

    Wendy2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Have stayed many places before, can easily say this has been up there with the best! Incredibly clean and comfortable little paradise. The perfect getaway whilst not being far removed from Cambridge and even Hamilton if you like a bit of activity. Outdoor baths looking out at the beautiful country landscape are amazing! The generously provided and delivered breakfast is a great start to the day too. Would absolutely recommend this place to all. Don't second guess the price point, this place and host will not disappoint.

    Moh2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Truly amazing stay from start to finish. The house sits up on a hill with a view exceeds the pictures. The house is spotless and well equipped. We were greeted by the friendliest dogs and got to say hello to the resident alpacas! The breakfast in the morning was perfect. I only wish we had more time!

Eco friendly cabin is a great destination for those seeking relaxation. We are 15mins from Hobbiton movie set Buckland road Matamata. 10 mins from the beautiful TeWaihou blue springs. Wake up to stunning river views from your swinging king size bed, enjoy a “cold one” on the floating pontoon or laze around in one of the hammocks, in the evenings enjoy the ambience of the fire pit or enjoy the Danish hot tub. We are pet friendly but would like you bring the dogs bed if sleeping inside.
This “off the grid” cabin has solar lighting, Gas water heating, fridge, USB charge points, 1 king bed, 1 double bed and 1 single bed, basic cooking facilities, BBQ, indoor fire, and outdoor fire and a hot tub. A Review from a satisfied customer: Planning a trip to Hobbiton and looking for Matamata hotels? Finding accommodations in Matamata is a little trickier than expected, simply because the town is very small and rural. You won’t find a Hilton or any other large chain hotel in Matamata. That’s where the fun starts! There are plenty of creative Matamata accommodations to choose from, you just have to know where to look. If you are looking for a hotel in Matamata, I would advise you to reconsider booking a hotel, and instead consider an Airbnb. Matamata (or Hobbiton, as Lord of the Rings aficionados refer to it) is a tiny town located on North Island, New Zealand, and due to the rural setting there aren’t a lot of great hotel options. However, there are plenty of amazing and creative Airbnb’s. One such amazing Airbnb was Kath and Dave’s river cabin. Matamata accommodations We had the privilege of staying at their amazing cabin when we visited in March, and I can’t wait until we can go back. I don’t say that lightly either – I’m normally one to never stay in the same place twice, but I really loved their unique cabin. If you’re looking for accommodations in Matamata, you really can’t go wrong with their place. It’s only 20 minutes to Hobbiton, so it makes an ideal place to stay if you’re looking for places to stay near the Hobbiton movie set. To start with, the entire place is solar powered and eco-friendly. Despite being solar powered, there are still USB charging ports, so no worries about charging your phone. The cabin is part of a fully functional farm, so it was neat to talk to Dave about the farm. He offered to show us their process for milking cows, but sadly we didn’t have enough time. The inside of the cabin is beautiful, with rough hewn wood decorating the space. The suspended king size bed was one of my favorite features. The entire place is rustic, unique, and full of personal touches. The cabin has basic cooking supplies as well as a BBQ, so if you prefer to cook your own food (like I do) there are all the basic necessities you will need. The bathroom is distinctive and beautiful, too. The wood really makes it too. But, my favorite part was the outdoor shower. Showering while looking out at the river was just idyllic. Kath and Dave also provide kayaks and fishing poles, so you can make good use of the river, or simply sit on the covered porch and enjoy the view. The river is literally right outside the cabin, so the view is incredible. 10 out of 10, this place couldn’t be better. If you’re looking for Matamata hotels, this cabin is better than any hotel you could hope to find. Travelhardest.com
This destination, although hidden away, is only a 5 minute drive from the popular Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel complex and golf course, or the same distance to the well known “Corrugated Creation” town of Tirau. A 10 minute drive to the Te Waihou Blue Springs Walkway, 15 minute drive to Hobitton, and less than an hour from 4 cities; Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua and Lake Taupo. There is a great review to read on the "Travel Hardest" blog.
  • Off the beaten grid, this place really is a treasure so you must give it a go!! I spent a couple of days here with my parents who were over from Aussie and my dogs and we have never felt so relaxed. Very friendly hosts and great communication. We have already recommended to friends. Thank you so much!

    Danielle2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

    Rebecca2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • To say this place was everything we hoped for is an understatement. By far the best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in. We spent three nights in this beautiful cabin and loved every minute of it. Caught rainbow trout in the Te Waihou River, star gazed, enjoyed the hot-tub, and soaked in the scenery and wildlife. Also, 20 minutes from the Hobbiton movie set tours which was a huge stop on our trip. 100% recommend to anyone traveling to this area.

    Garrett2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • BEST PLACE EVER. You know when you walk in to an Airbnb and you’re usually disappointed? I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed. These guys have thought of LITERALLY everything. So awesome that the place is dog friendly too... our dog refused to get in the car and didn’t even try to follow us when we started to drive off- we had to go and get him haha. Will def be back. So beautiful. Very lucky to get a spot at this place!

    Afrika2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Dave and Kath are AMAZING. So friendly, accommodating, they gave us milk and other goods just out of the goodness of their heart. Showed us around the farm. We could never have asked for better hosts. The place itself is absolutely breathtaking, it’s very private and secluded right in the river. We fished and kayaked and even saw a seal. The interior was clean and had everything we could have needed and then some. The hot tub was clean and so much fun to heat it naturally with a fire. Definitely worth every penny.

    Lauren2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot! Off the grid so really made us think about reserving electricity, water etc. secluded and spacious. The outdoor spa and shower were hits for us. We’ll be returning for sure!

This is a private 30 acre farm with a lovely beach, which is about 30 metres away from the cabin with spectacular views You can enjoy safe swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing off the rocks, scenic coastal walks and more. Be at one with nature here.
This cabin sits around the corner from our house and is private from the house is a free standing building. The cabin deck is facing the beach and has wonderful views . The room has a comfy queen bed, a small refrigerator, plug in two hob cooker, microwave, electric fry-pan, toaster, kettle, etc. There is a 42" TV setup for DVDs only, we have with some cult classic kiwi DVDs and many others DVDs . From your room you walk out to the deck facing the beach which has seating, lovely place to relax for two. On the other side of the deck is a cute bathroom. If you have just arrived from Overseas I would suggest you stop in Whangarei to do some shopping perhaps at PACnSAVE or Countdown. We do have a local store with limited supplies or we can help if you arrive late in the day. We have kayaks that you can use. There are several surfing beaches approx. 10 minutes away. If you are a keen fishing person we can guide you to them, just bring your own gear and the store has good bait and good prices. If you wish to bring your own boat there are two boat launching places, one just around the corner the other 10 minutes away. There are some great walks in the area, short and long. We are very close to the Te Araroa - The Long Pathway - which is the walkway through NZ. On our property we have a Maori lookout Pah site which you can walk up to and further enjoy more wonderful views. There are other walks including walking the longest foot bridge in the Southern Hemisphere and visiting the crystal clear lagoon in the area. This is a great place to set up as a base. You can visit other parts of the Tutukaka Coastline which is about 45 minutes south from here and has some great Restaurants and lovely beaches and beach walks. Catch a boat from there to the Poor knights and see this astounding place to snorkel and dive. If you would like to see some local history go to Waitangi which is north just under an hour away and visit the treaty grounds. If you would like to go to Russell is just under an hour away by a very scenic road. There is also the Helena Bay Cafe which has a fantastic collection of only New Zealand art work and a cafe with lovely views open for brunch or a late lunch is only 35 mins away. Uncrowded with pristine coastal area and friendly locals.

  • Wow, stunning bay! Beautiful special place not to be missed.

    Jamie2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful piece of paradise. Great to visit and enjoy some of the best beach scenery NZ has to offer.

    Glenn2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tea greeted us upon our arrival and was even kind enough to help us bring in a couple bags. The space was even more cozy and stylish than the pictures. But that view in the pictures is spot on! Beach is right out front and provided beautiful swimming and paddling. If you enjoy being a beach bum, this is truly the spot to be! Kitchen has the bare essentials for what you need if you plan to dine in. Tea and her husband also provided a small BBQ grill for us to cook on one of the nights. Otherwise, the one place in the village that does takeaways has some super yummy fish and chips/burgers n stuff. Get groceries though in Whangerei before you head to Whananaki. Not much at local store. Only downside to the location is that it takes an hour to go anywhere else to see/do things apart from a handful of local trails and walks. We also loved the company of Tea's affectionate cat too! Loved feeling like we had our own little slice of heaven for a few days. Only other criticisms are that the room gets a bit stuffy when it's hot out and can get buggy from having the windows/slider open for fresh air, and the matress is a bit on the soft side. Tea's place was just what we were looking for, and we appreciated all her helpful tips on the area! Would definitely go back!

  • Everything you could ask for in an off the beaten track stay! Right on an empty beach with amazing views. Exactly what we were looking for.

    James2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing stay, words cannot describe how magical this bnb was. We had gorgeous views of the water right from our little private deck. We were able to use the kayaks that Tea provides at our leisure and explored the bay. We hope to be back one day!

  • This beach is the most wonderful place! A perfect place to stay. Tea was an excellent host. We were sorry we had to leave.

We were advised by Airbnb that Tree house was in the top 10 houses requested by guests in NZ in 2017. The tree house is a modern open plan studio built 5 years ago on a stunning 2,000 square metre very private tree covered section which runs down to the beach. The property enjoys all day sun and views over Wellington harbour.
The tree house is a modern open plan near new architecturally designed studio built on a stunning 2,000 square metre very private tree covered section which runs down to the beach. The property enjoys all day sun and views over Wellington harbour. It has a modern kitchen and bathroom with washing machine, dishwasher, small television and radio CD player. There is a BBQ on the large deck and for the brave, a heated outside bath set into the hill side over looking Lowry Bay. (This bath is currently under repair) Access to the tree house is via a long drive way to a car deck for parking. The studio enjoys walk on access off the car deck. Three bicycles are provided for guest use. Please also note that the treehouse is built high up in and is surrounded by trees. The trees flower and attract birds, insects and from time to time ants in summer. As a consequence it is almost impossible to stop small numbers of insects and ants from entering the cottage. We do not like to spray and poison too much in such a beautiful environment. If you are going to be a upset finding a live or dead ant or moth in the cottage this booking is not for you. We take a lot of pride in cleaning the treehouse but it may sit empty for a day or two before you arrive. We leave some windows open to air the property and a moth, spider or ant may visit between our clean and your arrival. They are part of life and we are in their environment not the other way around. When we sleep in the Tree House we often sleep with the doors open. In summer it is glorious. We mostly live on an adjacent site in a cottage separate from and well blow the tree house. We can meet guests if they need assistance or advice. York Bay is one of a necklace of bays on the sunny eastern side of Wellington harbour. Bikeways, bush walks and ferries connect the bays to Eastbourne, Hutt City and Wellington. Nature rules. It can be calm, but it can also be windy and wild. Native birds and even deer come on to the property to steal the fruit. Busses and ferries connect York Bay to Eastbourne, Hutt City and Wellington. They run on the 1/2 hour during the rush hours but are less frequent for the rest of the day. A car is probably best. We are happy to have agreed pets to stay provided they are kept off all furniture but we may add a special cleaning fee. Please talk to us about your pet. The property is not fenced, but the decks can be closed off to keep most pets secure. Access to the tree house is via a long drive way to a car deck for parking. • Great place to stay with amazing views

    Gareth2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The view was spectacular, pictures do not do in justice. The tree-house is as advertised, small and unique. The drive up the road can be a challenge if you are not comfortable driving in NZ.

    Mark2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The views are amazing and Peter was so helpful by giving us great recommendations for getting around wellington. We took the ferry in Dave's bay to Wellington which was way more convenient than trying to drive there. We are from the US so the drive up to the tree house was a little scary as it's a very narrow, uphill, one lane drive. But once we got used to it, it was a great place to stay.

    Molly2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great few days in this house above the treetops. Had great weather, and ate outside on the balcony most days. Good spot to take the ferry into Wellington, plus also good walking and coffee shops not too far away. But above all, I am so going to miss that view over Wellington Harbour!

    John2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation, great view, exciting arrival and access, very nice host with great tips. We would be happy to recommend it.

    Hinnerk2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful place to stay . The view is amazing and it’s so bright and cheerful. Definitely a wonderful place to stay . The bikes were so nice to have the use of during our stay. The shower with a view left us feeling we had showered with the birds in the tree tops. The walks on the beaches and swims will be remembered for along time. The quietness of the night and mornings made our rests bliss. Thanks for the wonderful experience of the city from a distance.

    Elma2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible views of the wellington harbour and a well thought out space. Well worth the price, be careful driving up the hill to get to it though as it is quite narrow and doesn't offer much space to maneuver should a car be coming towards you

    Joshua2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

Spend a night or two 'off the Grid' (no Power) in our self-catering Genuine Mongolian Yurt. A unique experience and less than 1 hour from Auck Airport. Beaut swimming beach only a few mins drive then relax under the stars in a gorgeous 100 yr old outdoor bath (SORRY THE BATH IS OUT OF ACTION TEMPORARILY WHILST THERE IS A FIRE BAN IN PLACE. feb 2020)
The Yurt is tastefully decorated with quality furnishings. A wonderful camping experience with all the luxuries of home. Relax and enjoy a steamy hot bath outside under the stars in a gorgeous 100 yr old bath heated by way of an old copper, wood fired, water boiler. A clear dome adorns the top of the Yurt so you can enjoy the stars on a clear night from the super comfortable queen size bed. At the moment we do not have hot running water but there is an indoor shower (cold) which is very refreshing in those hot summer days.
We are situated only 50 mins south of Auckland CBD. Take a beautiful drive through the quaint little village of Clevedon which hosts a number of craft shops and has a local Farmers market every Sunday morning. Then travel on through Kawakawa bay towards Orere Point. Our property boarders on to one of Aucklands most beautiful Regional Parks - Tapapakanga which has a lovely sandy swimming beach and is a great fishing spot. Tapapakanga is situated on the north western shores of the Firth of Thames. This coast is also known as the Sea Bird Coast and is popular with Birdwatchers from all around the world. It is also part of the Kayak Trail - starting from Maraetai and finishing in Waharau. You can complete the whole 4 day trail or just have a leisurely paddle around the shoreline exploring all the hidden little coves. A five min drive takes you to a very popular fishing spot - The Mussel farms off Matinagarahi Beach. Your boat can be launched from here directly from the beach with a 4 wheel drive or there are two Boat Ramps within 15 kms either direction. Kawakawa Bay Boat ramp is accessible in all tides and Kaiaua Boat ramp You can take leisurely 30 min coastal drive south through Kaiaua to the Miranda Hot Pools which are Natural Mineral pools. A 50 min drive south and you can explore the Thames Market which is held on a Sat morn. Thames township is the beginning of the Coromandal Peninsular which has a rich history of Gold mining and has many attractions that are well worth visiting.
  • Magical space!! The Yurt and the environment that it is located in is superb, it feels authentic and magical. Josy knows how to decorate and has immaculate taste in furnishings. It’s styled magically and the bed is like sleeping in a 5star hotel while getting the glamping experience.

    Henry2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved the place, truly amazing. Was wonderful sitting in the tub looking up at the stars late at night with only the sound of crickets. Fantastic experience and one will never ever forget. Josy's response to us staying only a few days before was pleasantly prompt especially as it was a bank holiday weekend. Would highly recommend!

  • What a great get away place! Private, peaceful, and very beautiful. The yurt was so amazing, the bed comfortable, and our host was wonderful. When we first arrived it was really warm inside the yurt, but no worries, it cools off by nightfall, so hang out on the deck and enjoy the view or hike to the beach through the bush, cow and sheep pastures. No electricity or hot water but that is part of the adventure!

The outdoor shower was amazing and the space had everything I needed. Terrence and Cathy offered me lots of great tips and graciously offered to pick me up from the bus stop in Kaiwaka. I had a wonderful stay!

  • Funky Space is an incredible little home. Check in was easy and we immediately fell in love with the place. The home is very spacious and private. We were able to relax and unwind in this home and loved the calming vibe of the home. Kitchen has the right amount of utensils, bed is comfortable and everything is clean. We loved the outdoor bath and shower. Funky space is spacious and perfect for those looking to disconnect from technology and reconnect with themselves. 10/10 ☺️

  • Robyn's guest house was a very elegant, up-scale, brand new bach with great views, set in a lovely, rural setting. It was clean, comfortable and very private, with a terrific, well-stocked kitchen and very nice bedrooms and bathroom. It was very good value for money and exceeded my wife's and my expectations.

We’re located at Tapeka Point at the entrance to the world famous Bay of Islands. Tapeka boasts two beaches ideal for fishing, swimming and other water sports It has a boat ramp for launching boats. Watch passing Orcha whales if you are lucky or swim with the wild Dolphins off the beach. Nearby is Kauri Cliffs, Waitangi, Kerikeri and other world class golf courses. • Smart space walking distance to Russell. We saw a kiwi on Jack’s walkway coming home at night. Need torch. Access to kayaks on beach was fun. Clean, well laid out and comfortable.

  • The Apartment was stylish and comfortable and more spacious than we expected. There is a beautiful cove just down the stairs, but Dave also directed us to a great swimming beach just 5 minute walk away. We drove to the restaurants in town; it’s not too far but the road is narrow and steep for walking. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Maril2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend this place enough! We stayed at Dave and Anitas for just two nights on our big tour of New Zealand. The location of the apartment was perfect, after a long drive, it felt quiet and idyllic but not far from the town at all for restaurant access. We spent our time kayaking around the bay where we saw dolphins! And relaxing and swimming in the cove which was 10 seconds from the apartment. It was like our own private beach! We wanted to ditch the car for a day so we walked into Russell through the bush which took around 30 mins, an enjoyable walk with great views, a bit hilly. Everything we needed was provided for and we felt that the hosts went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. It was the perfect start to our adventure!

    Betsy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z

Ready to relax? Our fully self contained studio is a literal stone's throw from the beach at the end of the driveway. No shoes required! Kick back in the hammock chairs or lounger and enjoy the gorgeous views of 90 Mile Beach, from Shipwreck Bay to Cape Reinga.
Straight across the road from the beach, Ahipara Beachfront Studio lets you make the best of coastal living. Wake up and check the surf, walk down to the beach for a swim. Low tide exposes sandy bottom rock pools directly out front, some deep enough for swimming Eat outdoors, relax in the hammock chairs, and let the sound of the surf lull you to sleep. Or.....cosy up inside with block out blinds and binge on Netflix to your heart's content. The space is the ground floor of a two storey house - completely separate with no internal access. A simple, open-plan space with retro block walling, making it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The bi-fold door can open up half the front wall to let in the sea air, and the deck catches the sun at the front with shelter at the rear of the deck provided by the balcony above. For your comfort and enjoyment: - 100% cotton linen - King size bed with new Sleepyhead mattress - Futon sofa bed - 100% cotton towels - Beach towels - Non-toxic body wash, handsoap and cleaning products - Selection of books and board games - Unlimited WiFi - 43 inch flat screen TV with Netflix, TVNZ On Demand, Lightbox, and Chromecast so you can stream anything else from your devices. In the kitchen area: - Nespresso machine - Milk frother - Electric double element, bench top oven, toaster - Full size refrigerator and freezer - Selection of teas - French press coffee - Breakfast cereal and milk - Oils, basic condiments, and all basic cooking utensils For guests considering twin share there is a fold down futon sofa bed. The size is slightly smaller than a double bed, with the folding seam running down the middle of the futon from head to toe, creating a slight dip. Using the sofa bed is not ideal unless you know each other well, as there will be little privacy, with only a roll down bamboo blind to visually separate the two sleeping spaces. Don't forget to let me know if you are wishing to use the sofa bed so I can prepare it for you. The studio is not suitable for small children, but if you are coming with an older child or a little baby feel free to message me, often we can make it work. If you are interested in booking the whole property, check out The Beach House Ahipara which is the top storey. We once lived in the studio and we have many happy memories of our time there, we know you'll love it as much as we did!
Ahipara is a peaceful, coastal community, and also a giant outdoor playground with a plethora of outdoor activities available. 90 Mile beach is an official highway, so if you have a 4WD vehicle definitely take it for a blast! Don't forget to check out the sand dunes and spectacular scenery around the point from Shipwreck Bay, you might even catch sight of the local herd of wild horses (and don't forget to check the tides). In Ahipara there is a local store with some basic groceries, a takeaway shop, a liquor store, and a gas station. North Drift cafe has good food and is open 7 days, with dinner.....when they feel like it.... They are licensed. Hot tip: stick to the menu rather than cabinet food. Up the hill at the motel is Stonegrill Restaurant if you feel like some (fairly expensive) pub-style fare with a drink to wash it down. You might meet a few locals up there on a Thursday and Friday night. If you don't feel like spending too much, Bidz takeaways are great. Make sure you ask for the fresh fish of the day. Anything else you might need, such as a laundromat, chemist or full supermarket, can be found in nearby Kaitaia (15 minutes drive, rather than the 5 hours some reviews would have you believe hehe).
  • Liana's studio apartment was a lovely space to get chill and relax in beautiful Ahipara. Having the ocean views on your doorstep was amazing. Liana was an amazing host.

The Lighthouse is a unique and cosy place to stay in Wellington. Stunning views of the ever changing ocean that you'll never get bored with. It is across the road from the sandy beach and rock pools. Great for walking. There's a lovely cafe around the corner, and several other cafes, restaurants, shops, etc 10 minutes walk away. Buses arrive and leave from the Island Bay bus terminus every 20 minutes. It's short 9 minute drive from the airport and a 10-15 minute drive to downtown Wellington.
People love staying at The Lighthouse. It's a magic place to stay. You can sit and happily watch the ever changing view for hours. It's very relaxing and cosy.
Island Bay is a beautiful bay on Wellington's south coast. There are cafe's, restaurants, take aways, a cinema and a supermarket a short 5-10 minute walk from The Lighthouse. The coastline is very scenic and there are nice walks nearby.
  • My stay at the Lighthouse was totally awesome. It was a part of my birthday celebration and indeed I had a blast. The sea view was perfect from sunset to sundown. The place was sparkling clean and the bed was warm and cozy. There’s no wifi in the place, just enjoy the view and reflect without any destructions. I highly recommend the Lighthouse. If you are visiting New Zealand and going to Wellington, visit the Lighthouse and you will not be disappointed.

  • Staying in this lighthouse was an amazing experience. My partner and I have wanted to do so for a while, so when we planned to come to Wellington, we weren’t going to miss this opportunity. The place is really nice and cosy with amazing views from the top. Lovely sitting up there with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down. The place could do with a slight clean, particularly around the windows but unfortunately living right opposite the sea in a windy city is always going to create this problem. Overall a lovely experience in a great location with great views. Awesome rock pooling across the road too! We got to see a blue penguin and a sting ray! Was incredible! :)

Make tea in a minimalist kitchen and step out into the crisp air of a stone and gravel patio, kick up your feet, and admire postcard sea views. This serene suite enjoys an abundance of natural light from windows offering coastal mountain views.
We have an array of things to do with local cafes, fishing club, kayaking, paddle boarding, golf and tennis clubs, and great walks all on our doorstep. Want to do a day trip to the Wairarapa region we can help.
Set in a modest seaside village outside of Wellington, the property is a short walk or drive away from a number of cafes, pubs, and acclaimed fish and chips spots. The beach is just steps away.
  • Fabulous! The perfect stop between my long drive from chch to Auckland. The place is beautiful and I wish I could’ve stayed longer to get a chance to use the bath. The bed was super comfortable, the first time I’ve woken up without back pain in months! I highly recommend staying here :)

  • Wonderful location by the sea to watch the boats. Lovely coastal walk to cafe and restaurant. Comfortable bed and coffee machine was real hit! Classy bathroom with views

  • An amazing place, such a lucky find for us. Stayed for three weeks and wished we hadn’t had to leave. Jane and Mike were friendly and helpful and made us feel like it was our home for the time we stayed. The location is perfect, right on the sea front. Beautiful sunsets. It offered us a peaceful, calm and tranquil holiday but with fantastic choice of things to do. We will return for sure!

    Alison2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful home! Jane and Mike were very accommodating and they have an eye for style and comfort! Heated bathroom floors, large tub, comfortable bed, this is a luxury spot for sure! We would have absolutely stayed longer if we could have, the view is unbeatable!

    Sarah2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay at this luxury suite. The design, the view, all the little touches and the hosts made it for us a really unforgettable stay.

    Ilana2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Simply put, we walked in and within a few minutes knew we’d wished we had more time to afford to stay in Plimmerton with Jane and her husband! A terrific location and an extremely well put together private apartment, with the hosts right on site, made for a very comfortable and pleasant stay for the night. You won’t be disappointed staying here right on the water!

  • Excellent property so close to the sea and beaches. Railway station 15 minute walk away with 2 trains an hour to Wellington. Exceptionally clean and comfortable. An amazing bath with views of the sea. Great value too.

    Christine2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were very friendly, the apartment had a great view and was very quiet, nice to relax. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom nice and clean. We could do some laundry which was nice. The hosts have pets (cat and dog, which we met) which to my knowledge was not mentioned in the description. I am highly allergic, it would have been nice to know in advance. Definitely a beautiful place, highly recommended when you are in the area.

Great location, close to everything but far enough away for peace and serenity. Steve was amazing with communication. Never had to wait long for a reply if I needed something. Highly recommend this Airbnb!

Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and adjacent to the Abel Tasman National Park, Wainui Bay has a slow pace of life with an abundance of natural beauty - perfect for a holiday retreat. Many elements of New Zealand life the way it used to be, are still remaining in Wainui Bay. There’s a small family run farm, lots of native birds and no shops and people still have time to go to the beach. When it comes to natural beauty, Wainui Beach is one of Golden Bay's finest examples and is within easy walking distance of Golden Bay Hideaway. It's a great beach for swimming or exploring the rock pools and sandspit. Standup paddleboarding or kayaking are highly recommended!! If you pick your tides, a rock-hopping trek to Taupo Point is an adventurous highlight with an old Maori pa site, historical links to Abel Tasman and the first landing of Europeans in New Zealand. Taupo Point is a special place and is considered to have sacred value to the local community and iwi. Beautiful sheltered coves and small islands surround it - dolphins, seals, sea birds and schools of fish are often found here. and of course there are the well-formed walking trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.
  • We loved the magical location, view of Wainui Bay from our private little yard, the bath was AMAZING, and a great sound system for fun vibes. Very relaxing place. Excellent proximity to Abel Tasman trails, the bay, and the Wainui falls. The house truck is very comparable to a tiny home. It’s a charming, cozy and romantic space! Might be a bit small on a rainy day. The fireplace is a welcome touch.

  • Lawrence and Kylie’s house truck is an absolutely special, cosy, inspiring experience. The location is breathtaking, the outdoor bath is amazing... it’s just so worth a try!!!

    Sophie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fun to try the truck. It truly is a tiny house so well decorated. We liked the tub outside which was great after a long day in Abel Tasman national park with a lot of walking and kayaking (R&R kayaks) and in the morning we sat outside and enjoyed the view.

    Lise2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Four relaxing days and nights in a beautifully decorated house truck - in a stunning environment in a clearing in the forest overlooking the Bay! Wonderful ... I could have cancelled our next 20 days to stay longer, but my family wanted to move on to see more of NZ 😉 And very friendly hosts!

    Christian2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • So relaxing. The interior of the truck is just gorgeous. Loved our two night stay so much.

    Anna2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend Lawrence and Kylie’s place more the location is beautiful and the hospitality was great!

    Mia2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • The truck is a great way to turn off from daily life. You are almost forced by the location. The truck itself is well equipped for a small space. The bath with a bottle of wine is delightful. The local area is amazing, we went sea kayaking, saw a waterfall and a caves. I wish we had more time around golden bay.

    Oliver2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Such a special place to stay, beautiful location, quirky accommodation which was cosy and comfy. It felt like we were on a little adventure. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend. Our 5 and 6 year olds absolutely loved the truck and their imaginations were in overdrive as they pretended to drive all over the place! The friendly weka were a bonus too. All in all a little bit of fun in paradise.
