  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

  • Such a magical experience! Rob & Elsa put so much thought and detail into this space. It felt so lovely to spend our gals weekend, gazing out to the redwoods, and breathing in that fresh air! What a nice escape from the city... a true gem! Thank You.

  • Thank you so much for letting us stay in your masterpiece!! Your home was a dream and it was better than our wildest dreams. So many personal touches and everything was so intentional. I was blown away. Such a great place to stay!

  • Rob & Elsa’s place is gorgeous with detail-oriented style. We loved the coziness and comfortability of the space. The bedroom was a dream and we really enjoyed the chance to disconnect from our phones and computers!

  • Rob and Elsa have really created a little piece of paradise in their Camping Hut! It's so beautifully designed, and there are a lot of thoughtful touches. My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful weekend! We hope to come back in the future!

  • This place is a little slice of heaven! And the little details that Rob and Elsa thought of just add a little magic to their beautiful cabin.

    Hedvy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. I felt totally off the grid (only nature sounds, trees, and the stars) while surrounded by thoughtful amenities and stylish design. I loved taking a forest bath and the hut couldn’t have been cozier on a chilly night. And don’t get me started on the playlist that greeted me; basically, they have great taste in every respect. :)

    Sally2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had such a great time at Rob and Elsa’s hut. It was a such a great way to enjoy nature and get some rest and relaxation. We were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do around Elk as well. Highly recommend a trip to Rob and Elsa’s!

My place is close to the beach 18 miles to Elk and ocean. You’ll love my place because It's clean, safe and quite. and it is cozy. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. we are of off the main road and the last 1/2 is on a rock road. Depending upon the time of year it may have a few pot holes. However you will have no problems driving a normal car. We do it all the time. check in anytime after 11 am. call me if you want to arrive earlier.
A couple of our guest stated that they would have like having drapes. We listened and there are now drapes. Also one commented that the head board on the bed was movable. It has been fixed to the wall. We listen and are here for you.
The cabin is located off of a county road. The last half mile may be a little washboard; so drive slowly. There are plenty of place to hike right from the cabin. We have two dogs and two older horses.
  • The place was nicer than it looked in the pictures. Robert was very welcoming and we love the portrait. Great little spot :)

    Dominic2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful cabin and location! We wanted to be in the woods but not really camping. And that is what Hoof and Paws offered. Robert is a wonderful host. The photo he took of us is wonderful and such a unique gift. Our dog had the best time running in the woods around the cabin and on the scenic walks we took down the dirt roads. Very safe and clean and peaceful. Highly recommended.

  • Thanks for the warm hospitality and great place to relax, can't wait to come back with Buddy in the future!

  • Robert’s place was perfect for a getaway and we will forever cherish his portraits of us. Come here for a totally relaxing escape!

    Alice2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the cabin. Bob was an excellent communicator and gracious host. It was a great location for going to Hendy Woods, wine tasting, and just hanging out in nature. I hope to be back soon!

    Sivan2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Roberts place is the perfect get away for two! We went up for the weekend with our 2 dogs and although it was right space is was cozy and really want the perfect detail to our weekend. It says no cell phone reception but I have t Mobile and I had full bars! Killer VHS and DVD collection! And the personalized photos were the icing on the cake for me

    Destiny2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t even know where to begin - so many things about our stay at Robert’s cabin were amazing! First, the cabin itself is the cutest tiny house deep in the woods and it has everything one may need. We loved the fireplace so much! Second, Robert is such a lovely and interesting person, who shot a gorgeous portrait of my husband, me and our yorkie (aka monster dog). Finally, the location is great - far away from everything (we really enjoyed the time with no internet or cell reception), but close enough to a number of wineries and Mendoncino, which we had a chance to explore. We loved our stay and will probably be back!

    Daria2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little tiny cabin in the woods. The property is beautiful and we had a great time exploring the area by car and then hanging out in the cabin by the the fire place. Very cozy and quiet. Bob is a great photographer as well. The kitchen has everything you need. The ability to clean up after ourselves instead of a cleaning fee is great too. Highly recommended for a get away from it all. No cell, no wi-fi, no cable, no problems. Lots of DVDs and VHS options, books, and beauty to explore. Simply, cozy, quiet. A perfect holiday escape.

Redwood cabin in the redwoods! We have a beautiful cabin with incredible views 5 miles from the ocean and the town of Elk. We live in the farmhouse on the property and will be here to help with anything but otherwise we keep to ourselves :) We can't wait to meet you!
The cabin has a bedroom with a queen sized bed (sleeps 2) and the futon in the living room also folds out into a queen sized bed (sleeps 2). There is a single padded mattress in the loft area as well (sleeps 1).
We are tucked away in nature so it's best to bring food and snacks with you to the cabin. The Elk store is about 6 miles away and they do have essentials as well as a delicious deli counter. Most surrounding restaurants are closed during the winter time, but they do reopen in the spring. There is also a larger town, named Mendocino, that does have more restaurant and store options. Please ask if you have any questions!
  • The place was amazing and will definitely come back Brittany and branden were a great hosts. Great place for a couple or even family.

This tiny cabin tucked in the redwoods is a cozy abode where you will be surrounded by trees, trees and more trees! Soak in the claw foot tub of while gazing out into the expanse of a redwood forest! The bottom floor of the cabin has a small sleeper sofa, record player, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bed is up the in loft space on the second floor for snoozing, reading or otherwise disconnecting from city life!Update: gas wall heater just installed to keep you warm and cozy!
Guests will have private access to this secluded cabin in the woods. Feel free to hike the trails behind the cabin or forage for mushrooms down the ravine.
We are 5.5 miles to the beautiful Mendocino coast and 12 miles to Mendocino. It is possible to spend days in the country, in the forest or on the coast in this location.
  • Such a quaint and cozy space. It’s also located in the most beautiful area. Loved the claw foot tub that overlooks the redwoods.

    Erika2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house was small, as expected, but so cozy!! The view of the redwood trees out the big bathroom window was amazing, and there's so many good local spots and beaches to explore nearby.

    Emily2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My dearest gal pals and I had the BEST time in this cozy little redwood home. We highly recommend this place to spend time with loved ones!

    Maria2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house is wonderful! Super cozy and private, views of trees from every window. The loft is a little tricky at first, but as long you you don't have mobility issues it's fine, and the bedroom space upstairs is really spacious and comfortable. Lots of thoughtful touches, like bubble bath for a soak in the luxurious tub. A great little find in Mendocino!

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute. Amazing bath tub w/ a forest view. Love that there is no WiFi or cell reception. I literally read 3 books during the full day I spent lounging around. Can’t recall the last time i unplugged for so long. Super close to Van Damme state park which had amazing hiking which I took advantage of the day I wasn’t reading all day. Note that the sleeping is up in the loft via a pretty serious ladder situation so if you have any mobility issues at all probably not a good fit. Otherwise a super cute, rustic, minimalist place to unplug up in Mendo for the weekend.

    Lindsey2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa’s place was perfect for a short weekend trip. She was able to install the wall heater a few days before our trip, so we got lucky and got to use it immediately!

    Wendy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Elisas place is a beautiful and private place to stay in the woods. The bath tub has an incredible view of large trees with nice ambient candles to light up. The record player has a few good records to play during your stay and the mini kitchenette is equipped with a good set up to make your morning comfortable. The only thing I would consider is that the main bed is on the second floor that is accessed only by a ladder. It is built in a tight space and was a little tough to navigate. Other than that the place is absolutely wonderful!

    Charles2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very adorable cabin in the redwoods. Elisa is a great host who helps you settle into the space. The cabin can be cold in the winter, but the heaters help cozy up the place.

A charming cottage in historic Anderson Valley. Surrounded by grapevines, woods, and meadows and within walking distance of several wineries, our one bedroom cottage is located on a 3-acre homestead from the 1800's purchased by our grandparents in the mid 1900's. Under the pepperwood tree, you'll have a full kitchen, a small bathroom, a front and back porch, a sunroom out the back door and flowers everywhere when in season. A home away from home in a country setting with country hospitality.
Our property is approximately 3 acres at the end of Ruddock Road in Philo, California. We're directly adjacent to Indian Creek Road on one side, and privately owned large acreage in the back. When in season and in good years, we have fresh picked peaches, nectarines, and apricots from trees in the yard, and mom's garden might offer tomatoes and other fresh produce during the garden season.
Balo Winery is at the end of our driveway. Directly across the street is the Madrones complex with the popular Stone and Embers restaurant. There are several more wineries in the direct vicinity and within walking distance.
  • Everything was wonderful. The place was sparkling clean, full of amenities, cozy, yet spacious, and even nicer than pictured/described. It was magical to stay in the middle of the pastoral Philo, separated from the city yet in the middle of Mendocino wine country. Jeanette was a wonderful host, quick to communicate and clear about directions to the place. We loved our stay and only wish we had stayed longer! Would love to come back.

    Erika2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is super cool! If you are looking for a unique structure on a gorgeous property that has an antique feel in a perfect location for your Anderson Valley wine trail-this is it. The property is very quiet (although there is a rooster that can’t tell time that lives in the distance) and the blackout curtains made sleeping in easy. We found all the amenities that we needed, and appreciated the simplicity of the kitchen. Communications with the host both online and locally were quick and effective. Check in and out were simple. The location was perfect for our wine tasting weekend. There is a coffee pot, but it’s a 4-cupper, so if you’re a big coffee drinker like me, bring your own grounds so you don’t run out. We didn’t really cook while we were there, but the kitchen had it all. I noticed a nice Weber grill in the shed. We didn’t need it this trip, but maybe Jeanette can speak to wether that’s available if you wanted to use it. My husband didn’t like the bed. We have a very firm bed at home, and this one is on the softer side for sure. He tried out the sleeper sofa and found that very comfortable. It wouldn’t keep us from returning, though. It’s a one of a kind!

    Heidi2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Simply outstanding. Quaint country cottage centrally located in the Anderson Valley. If you're looking for a love nest this is it!

    Dave2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to stay in Anderson Valley. The cabin was warm, clean and cozy. The full kitchen was useful, but the bed was a little uncomfortable.

    Brian2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place and great hosts!!!

    Paul D2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jeanette's place was great, her Mom met us upon arrival to walk us through the place. We wanted to explore the wine country of Anderson Valley and this cottage is ideally suited for that. Place was clean, bed was comfortable and local apple cider in the fridge was delicious.

    Nick2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Crispin Cottage is a great place to stay in the Anderson Valley. Across the street from the Madrones (SO sad that Stone and Embers closed! Hoping something similar opens soon!), it is a perfect place to base yourself for whatever you want to do in the valley - wine tasting, hiking in Hendy Woods, or driving out to Mendocino. Jeanette was super quick to respond, communicated well and sent great directions - and her sister was there when we arrived and her mom came out to introduce herself and say good bye as we were leaving. As to the cottage, it feels like a nice rustic apartment with fully functional kitchen, a full-size bathroom with plenty of hot water and good water pressure - and lots of nice towels. The bedroom was quiet and the bed was really comfortable. The cottage even has a washer and dryer - which we didn't use, but could come in handy if you were staying more than a couple of days. My favorite things, other than location, were probably the the enclosed patio/sunroom off the bedroom and the overall "rustic-ness" of the place. The sunroom was a perfect place to relax and have lunch on a fall day, and it was really nice to just wander the property and see a bit of valley history. Thanks Jeanette - we hope to visit again!

Relax and enjoy my beautiful Guest House. Surrounded by redwoods and rolling hills, this two master-bedroom vacation home will bring out the calm, sweet side of you. Lounge on the deck or by the fire. Sleep in king-size beds. Eat at several marvelous restaurants nearby or prepare your own feast in fully equipped kitchen.
Designed to be enjoyed! There is a large, open living room with couches and big windows. I have used some of my own pottery as decorations around the house. There is a large wall-mounted satelliteTV. There is a wonderful Lopi gas stove, that looks and feels like a wood fireplace, but is as easy as pushing a button. A long, wooden dining table is in the center for long, leisurely feasts, your own wine tasting or playing games after the sun goes down. Enjoy the covered deck with lounge chairs day or night, all year round. You are also welcome to enjoy the gardens, pathways and orchard. I’m happy to share plums, apples, pears, blackberries in season! The pool deck is a great place to catch some sun and watch for wildlife. The pool itself is large and deep, and is warmed by the sun, so is best enjoyed in summer.
Doug’s place is located in Navarro, California, United States. The tiny town of Navarro is in the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County. Pepperwood Pottery Guest House is located as close to heaven as you might want to get! Yes I’m biased, that’s part of the reason I wanted to share the Guest House so others could experience and enjoy the wonderful pleasure of deep dark nights, bright sunny days in the country, quiet peaceful nature all around you. Please also take a look at the website at PepperwoodPottery.com and Facebook at Pepperwood Pottery! See what I have to offer on your visit!
  • The host was friendly and wanted to make sure we had a successful trip in the Anderson Valley. One of our cars' battery died, and the host didn't make a big deal when we had to leave the car a few hours past the check-out time to get it jumped. The place was a lot of fun and I slept really well.

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Doug's place is absolutely lovely. A perfect distance from local wineries in Anderson valley and Mendocino. It is a great space with wonderful amenities, a great kitchen and great table for group dinners! 10/10 would recommend!

  • Beautiful home! Such a wonderful find, cozy, very comfortable and extremely spacious. We loved the little extra touches like fresh fruit we assume from the local farm. Super comfy beds and beautiful scenery all around. Doug was so friendly and greeted us upon arrival. Wish we could have stayed longer, will definitely book again!

  • Perfect place for a getaway from the city. Close to Hendy Woods (beautiful redwood groves) and just 30 min drive to the coast. The cabin is warm and cozy and well stocked for cooking, with a trail by the lake where you can spot mushrooms. Heidi was a friendly and gracious host and we enjoyed talking with her and meeting her dog BJ. We hope to come back when it’s warm and swim in the lake. Highly recommend.

We walked in and there was soft music playing and pretty lighting, we instantly felt relaxed. At first we were worried about not having WiFi but it turns out it was exactly what we needed to disconnect from technology and truly relax. Everything was so well-appointed - the bed and linens were so comfortable, the kitchenette was well-stocked with essentials, and there was even music to listen to! Truly one of a kind experience. Surround yourself with beautiful redwood valley views, yet minutes to vineyards, the coast and all that the spectacular Anderson Valley has to offer. The Hexagon is hand crafted from a felled redwood tree on the property, designed with an organic modernist aesthetic & meticulously developed into the perfect guest retreat. Signature to this guest cabin is the outdoor bathroom, inspired by a safari experience. The Hexagon is off-grid and powered by solar energy.
No detail has been overlooked in The Hexagon. It has been designed so that you feel like you are floating in nature, even when you are inside, fireside and cozy. Four of the six sides of this structure have windows, so wherever you look you see views and nature. As you relax in bed, read on the leather armchair, enjoy an outdoor shower or soak in the two person exterior tub, you may see deer, wild turkey, rabbit, quail, hawk, eagle, chickadee and more. The Hexagon feels remarkably roomy because of its vaulted ceiling and plentiful light. It is cozy because of its working fireplace, defined by a gorgeous Heath Ceramics tiled hearth. The building is sited to be nestled into a grove of madrone trees for privacy, yet have unobstructed views of the valley below. The defining feature of The Hexagon is the exterior bathroom, which was inspired by remote African safari tents. The bathroom is literally one with nature, with a madrone penetrating the privacy wall and providing support for the shower, as well as felled madrone branches serving as the railing spindles of the deck. The Hexagon is part of a larger property with other buildings that the owners have built out as a labor of love and an expression of their creativity over the last 15 years. 200 feet away is a converted Airstream trailer and a small house. These buildings are for the owner's private use and are rarely occupied. You are welcome to use the house's large deck, with great views and comfortable adirondack chairs. The Hexagon has an uncovered outdoor kitchen, including propane bbq with 1 burner, kitchen sink, cooler and dining table. We provide a few pots and pans, a few basic cooking utensils, sharp knives, cutting board, bbq tools, plates and glasses. You will need to bring ice for the cooler, food, anything for cooking including oils and spices, etc. Ice can be bought 3 miles away at the local convenience store in Navarro. In addition, in your private exterior kitchen, you will find the exterior dining table and chairs, portable exterior lounge chairs, and a hammock. It is the perfect spot to get away with a loved one, or alone. It is a great jumping off point for day trips or for the writer looking for a spot to feel inspired. We love it here and hope you do too!
The Hexagon is located in the perfect spot for a unique weekend away from it all. You will find yourself perched on a ridge overlooking the vast Anderson Valley. Madrone, tan oak and redwood trees envelop you on the property. All of the surrounding parcels are multi-acre properties as well, accessible by the same road. A short drive away are award-winning vineyards and fabulous restaurants. The Hexagon is 15 minutes from some of the most spectacular California coastline and 35 minutes from Mendocino. Within minutes you are at the secret swimming hole of the Navarro river or shopping the local farm stands. Oh, and five minutes away is a great convenience store with great coffee, wine, and sandwiches. For city folk, this will be a truly country experience, yet with amenities. For country folk used to acres-upon-acres of isolation, keep in mind that while the property is private, other neighbors do use the access road.

Please note that anyone wishing to reserve the cabin must be within the categories identified by Mendocino County's Corona Virus restrictions until lifted. Thanks. KB The cabin is located in Philo near many of the best wineries in Anderson Valley -- Handley, Husch, Navarro, Roederer, & Greenwood Ridge, a short drive to the ancient redwoods of Hendy Woods and the Navarro River.
Located on 10 private acres of meadows and redwood forest a short drive off the highway, the land is vibrant with deer and birds large and small. This is a peaceful place to relax and recharge. Wine tasting is close by at Anderson Valley's oldest family-owned wineries specializing in Pinot Noir, Alsace varietals, and the best sparkling wines produced in the US. A lovely short drive through the redwoods brings you to the bluffs and beaches of the Mendocino Coast. Nearby Hendy Woods State Park has two groves of ancient redwoods and access to the Navarro River as well as miles of trails, some of which are available for bicycles. Generally pleasant climate year round at the Navarro end of Anderson Valley with coastal breezes without much fog. (Please note that, due to local map anomalies, the Airbnb map pin does not reflect the actual location of the cabin, which is just off Highway 128. Please inquire if you would like more location details.) Arts and crafts studios and shops nearby. A wide variety of organic food is available locally in season, and a Friday Farmer's Market has everything from olive oil to hand blown glass beads, not to mention the freshest fruits and vegetables. The cabin is clean, airy, and recently remodeled with a queen bed in the loft and a newly tiled bathroom. The loft is accessed by safe and sturdy ladder-like stairs which could be an issue for those with mobility challenges. The loft windows look out on the redwoods. It's like sleeping in a tree house--but much more comfy! A pleasant place to stay any time of the year. The sunny front deck overlooks a meadow and the back balcony is a shady place to catch the afternoon breezes. The second bed, which is in the living area, is a chair that pulls out to a comfortable platform single bed. A futon for the floor is available, but it's a bit crowded with four people. There is visual separation between the loft and the main room but no door. Do us both a favor and please do not inquire about whether you can bring your pet. I love animals, but the answer is going to be no. (insert little whimper here) Convenient to SF Bay Area, about 2.5 hours from Golden Gate Bridge.
Very quiet neighborhood but also convenient.
  • My wife and I had such a great weekend. We wish we could have stayed for longer just to have a day to sit around in the cabin and stay disconnected from the world. Location is perfect, kitchen was great. Hope to come back.

  • Love staying at the cabin in the meadow! The cabin is cute and cozy the perfect place to relax and recharge. It’s location is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It’s easy to get to wine tasting on 128 and the most amazing dinner at Bewildered Pig.

  • Great cabin. Nice and private but still close to all the wineries. Would definitely recommend.

    Vann2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place if you like to be all by yourself and have it nice and comfortable. Kathy is a superhost, very supportive and kind. I really enjoyed my stay in the cabine in the meadow and would stay there any time. thank you Kathy !

  • Charming little cabin, spotlessly clean and nicely renovated. Also kitchen has the basics thoughtfully stocked. Anderson Valley is lovely, altogether the visit was a pleasure. FYI the left hand turn to the road to the cabin is hard to see from the south on 128 so if coming from that’s direction particularly if at night be aware.

    Joan2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • For hiking possible to use not only redwood park well known to all but and continue of Gschwend Road with slow local traffic and beauty landscape. In the evening we observe through the window small family of roe (or something like that). A lot of testing rooms along of both side 128 Hwy, most of which fee free for testing.

  • Kathy was very courteous, responsive, and thorough host. The space is very spacious and homey...perfect for a weekend retreat. Thanks, Kathy!

  • A little off the beaten path. Peaceful, quiet, and clean. The bed is in a loft that can only be accessed by a ladder. Good variety of kitchen equipment. Wonderful place for young couples to explore Anderson Valley.

  • We had the best stay at this house. The architecture is so beautiful, and the view is insanely gorgeous. We found the house to be extremely clean & cozy, and the communication to be very quick through the Airbnb app. We loved building a fire in the living room and spending mornings and happy hour on the deck. We hope to return again next year! Thank you for the hospitality!

    Maria2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous location. Super clean and very stylish. There is no wifi, which you should take note of, but I enjoyed that. There is another house sort of connected, so if you are looking for something entirely away from others, be aware you could see folks on the deck, as we did. The kitchen is fantastic. Perfect for cooking while hanging out cooking while still being social. I'd definitely book this again.

    Jack2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • The home and views are even better than expected, so expect the unexpected.

  • Beautiful spot and very comfortable and stylish house. Make sure to drive down the street to the little park across from the general store and watch the sunset.

  • The porch, the views, the location...We had the most amazing wkend! Quiet, Nature, walks, beach, wineries...Can’t wait to return! The house is nicely appointed! Loved the plethora of pots and pans available to make a meal with! And dishwasher! Loved the outdoor space. The view is unbelievable...has the most blissful fantastic wkend checking out local beaches hikes... Ate at Queenie’s in tiny Elk (u can almost just walk from the house to Queenie’s and the Manchester beach. Drove through and explored from Elk, Albion, Little River, Mendocino, Fort Bragg, And to the Pacific Star Winery to enjoy wine tasting on the coastal cliffs and we saw whales swim by! Also, many more wineries to check out on return visit along Hwy 128...as u drive to Elk/Mendocino. Magical amazing wkend. Hope to return again soon! #Beautiful #Stunning #Magical #TheView #MidCentury ❤️

  • Lovely secluded getaway with a fantastic view to boot. Loved the fireplace at night!

    Nick2019-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat! The views and location themselves are great, but staying in an authentic, classic, brilliant, unique mid-century home was wonderful! And as nice as the pics are, the real thing is better. No complaints. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. We walked into town and into Greenwood State Beach...Mushroom-hunted in nearby Mendocino...Built driftwood totems at Navarro Beach....Visited Giraffes and Zebra at B Bryan Preserve...all fun. But sitting by the fireplace with our daughters playing ukelele and singing, having breakfast on the deck, playing liars dice, and watching colorful sunrises in an architectural wonder was the best!

    James2018-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Just a fantastic house. The location is unbeatable. It’s older so has some quirks such as the light switches that take some getting used to, but it’s really a minor thing. The house is beautiful, kept clean and has everything you could need, especially in the kitchen. Make sure to check out the Elk Store and Queenies and if your around on a Saturday night dinner at the Elk Cove Inn is excellent off you like classic French country cuisine.

**Improving our property and may have possible construction Monday-Friday. See details below. River's Bend Retreat is close to redwood forests, Anderson Valley wine country, and the Mendocino Coast. . You'll love our place because of the coziness, natural setting, beautiful light of the meadow and shadowy forest, peacefulness, friendly locals. This is a great destination for individuals on personal retreat, couples, creatives who want time to write or draw, and families (with kids).
Circle is a cozy cottage style cabin with one open-space room and a bathroom with shower. The cabin has a desk inside and a spacious deck with table and chairs. From November through March, heating is provided by a small wood stove (all firewood and kindling are included). The kitchenette includes a microwave, toaster oven, single hot plate, coffee maker, a very small fridge, and basic cooking and eating utensils.
Philo, CA is a Northern California valley town of about 350 residents. Prior to white settlers' arrivals in the 1800s, Pomo Native American tribes lived throughout Anderson Valley. With a long history of agriculture (especially orchards and sheep), valley culture has more recently revitalized as a "farm to table" destination known for wonderful locally sourced food, beer, wines and ciders. A small grocery store, post office and restaurant are located on Hwy. 128. Many winery tasting rooms in the Anderson Valley. Also, seasonally, farmer’s markets.
  • Beautiful and such a nice experience in nature 👌🏽

    Jeff2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie is such a great host, she showed us around the property and how to get down to the swimming hole, which we thoroughly enjoyed on a hot summer day! Circle cabin is cozy and filled with everything you need to cook up some eggs in the morning or brew a cup of coffee and enjoy it on the porch while watching the quail in the meadow. The beds are comfy and warm and there are lots of windows to let in the breeze. The porch overlooks the meadow and you'll be so relaxed, the grounds and gardens are beautiful. We saw so many birds, and even deer and foxes! I was amazed looking up at the stars and seeing how many there are up there! The retreat is secluded, yet so close to Boonville, which is why we chose this spot because we were in town for a wedding. What a special place to disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with nature, we would definitely stay here again!

    Jill2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a get away and retreat this is a lovely spot! The cabin was very spacious (two beds) with plenty of space for relaxing and a great porch. The amenities are basic and rustic, but you really do not need more. The best part is being so close to Mendocino, but still set apart from the usual tourist traps. Lovely to spend a day in Mendocino and come back home to a great swimming hole and retreat in nature! Highly recommend!!

    Nayna2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property and a perfect place to explore Anderson Valley and beyond to the Mendocino coast! In a short two night stay I was able to enjoy hiking on trails right out the doorstep from my cabin at Rivers Bend: the Navarro river and turquoise water full after a gush of February rain, Hendy Woods state park access with a wild mix of giant old firs and redwood trees wind blown and the old ones still standing strong, such an amazing location and place of forest and open meadow spaces with gardens and cabins for retreat and relaxation. My best hope will be to return later for a chance to swim in the summer when the river has calmed to a more inviting time...

  • The house is very unique and special. The view was amazing and the remote location was perfect for some downtime.

  • We had a wonderful stay. Breathtaking views, authentic architecture details and vintage designer furniture truly make this place a mid century lover’s dream. I especially enjoyed the high end music setup. Vinyl lovers should definitely bring a few records to this place.

  • Views are spectacular. The home was incredibly well appointed. Loved the architecture and interior design.

    Nicolas2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • You will totally enjoy this home for its vistas, tranquility, and uniqueness. A great getaway!

    Sandy2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, exactly as pictured. The house is like a trip back in time, California modern, with beautiful redwood everywhere. Loved the deck, the furniture is generous and comfortable and the heater made it warm enough for late night stargazing. The kitchen is super well stocked with everything you could imagine, and even though you are minutes from town, we felt no need to head out for food. Elk is a perfect quiet zone, on a stunning portion of the CA coast, not over crowded, even on the first days of summer, and during a run of glorious weather.

    Constance Laura2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful house and an excellent place to relax. My husband and I look forward to returning in the future.

    Christine2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. It's a museum piece but also a warm and inviting space. All of the wood, the built in lighting and the architectural lines make your time spent inside just lovely. It was rainy and cold most of our time there but when the sun did peak out we were instantly on the deck. The cliff side view, the swallows, hummingbirds and vultures soaring by, the sound of the ocean and the view of the house itself from the outside made for a completely special and relaxing stay. Also, the owners have done a great job decorating to match the style of the house. We DID NOT want to leave! We hope to visit again later this year.

  • Beautiful cute spot!! Nature and river trails right outside. Best for stargazing....we brought our telescope. A little tricky to find, but that keeps it remote and private. The only problem we had was finding a good place for dinner: long waitlist for the only two good options in the area. Just have to plan ahead for that next time. Will def come back :)

  • This is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a very relaxing peaceful weekend. The cabin was lovely and the location was beautiful. It’s such a short walk to the river, under a 5 minute drive to the market, and everyone is town was extremely nice as well. My sister and I will definitely be coming back to stay here again.

  • This is a beautiful, rustic experience in Philo. The cabin was warm and comfortable. The proximity to the wineries, restaurants, shops and the broader Mendo environment was perfect. And the access to the Navarro river was a delight. A great weekend spot. Laurie and her team helped make it fun.

    Kish2019-08-05T00:00:00Z

  • Had such a wonderful time enjoying the outdoors while staying in the Cloud Cabin! Taking a walk down to the Navarro River via the Hobbit Trail is a must! Trail may be a bit muddy, so wear shoes you won't mind getting a bit dirty. We stayed in the cabin during a cold weekend in May (around 48 degrees Fahrenheit at night) and the fireplace was already set up to make a nice fire! Cabin is equipped with the the bare cooking necessities, dishes, utensils, a microwave, fridge, and 4-cup drop coffee maker. Be sure to bring any coffee, condiments, and spices, you feel you would need as none is provided. Also bring toiletries, only toilet paper and hand soap is provided. Check-in instructions were very straightforward and remember to bring a towel and flashlight (which was helpful as we checked-in late in the evening). We definitely plan on coming back!

    Raquel2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a marvelous spot for a romantic getaway and also for people who love to soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful outdoors (redwoods, meadows and rivers) unburdened by human traffic. Laurie's place is both cozy and comfortable, and also conveniently located for an immersive river-hiking & swim experience. I highly recommend.

    Tess2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • I have been going to Wells Spring/Rivers Bend for 23 years and I always stay at Cloud. Besides the upgrades that only make it more conferrable it is always a beautiful place that is peaceful and renewing. I love going up in the summer and swimming at the best swimming hole or in the winter where the green is brown and the brown is green. The cabins are simple but nice and are great for family time and or a romantic get away. Anderson Valley has a lot to offer from The Anderson Valley Brewing Company -(My favorite) winery's, restaurants to local stores. It is located close enough to go to the coast on highway 128 through the Majestic Redwoods along the Navarro River. At the coast there are some of the best vistas in California-(at least for me) and wonderful beaches as well as Mendocino and Fort Bragg to the North and Elk, Point Arena and Gualala to the south that has many choices to eat, shop, drink great beer and/or wine and visit galleries with local artists. I have been going to this area for 38 years and it is the place where I feel whole and centered. It is not only the incredible natural beauty of the area along with the wonderful local’s that I have met makes if a great trip every time.

  • My wife and I had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at the studio. The space was clean and comfortable. Elk is a small, quiet town, so if you are looking for a place to get away and “chill out”, it’s perfect. The beautiful view from the window looks like a painting hanging on the wall. We sat on the deck in the evening, listening to the ocean, and watching a show of shooting stars!

  • I am always skeptical of places offering seemingly too-good-to-be-true views, but this experience delivered 100%!! The views from the room and patio were superb and the space was cozy and perfect for a weekend getaway! Kitchen is well equipped for cooking and checkout/in was simple! I would highly recommend this spot for someone looking to escape for a beautiful coastal weekend. The house area did not have cell service and the Internet wasn’t great, but this is the perfect place to disconnect, recharge and just put the phone away for a few days! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Nicole2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were pleasantly surprised by this Airbnb. It’s very private so you feel you have the whole space to yourself and it has an amazing view of the ocean. Entry was easy with a lockbox. Elk is also a small but cute charming area, make sure to get a sandwich at the Elk Store and a drink or meal at the Harbor House Inn (2 mins drive). This Airbnb was clean, had K-cups for morning coffee, full kitchen which was nice for preparing our meals, and a great location to visit wineries/hike throughout the day. I highly recommend staying here and we would definitely come back!

Newly renovated Barn Loft across from our other Airbnb rental, the Rustic Farmhouse. Privacy and comfort on a beautiful wine country farm in the heart of Anderson Valley! We are now pet friendly! Note: Our well water is safe to drink and shower however there is a mineral sulphur smell. We provide limited bottled water.
Welcome to our Barn Loft! We completely renovated the second level of the barn into the loft in 2016! We have 2 queen size beds, a sleeper sofa, dining table with 4 chairs, flat screen TV with Roku, Bluetooth speaker/sound bar, Wi-Fi, full bathroom and a kitchenette including a mini fridge. The barn loft is on the same property as our other rental, the rustic farmhouse. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/126500 Anderson Valley is completely dog friendly. We now allow for one medium sized dog in the loft, with prior approval. Dogs must be house broken and non aggressive as our caretaker has chickens and a dog that live on the property. Dogs are not allowed in the pond. A $30 non refundable pet fee is required for all pet rentals. The farmstead property is kept pretty wild in its natural state. The grounds are lush and green in winter and spring, and dry and yellow summer and fall. Temperatures swing dramatically year round: chilly nights and warm days are common. There is a cat that live on the property. You might see a few chickens roaming around. Please feel free to pick apples from the trees along the driveway and next to our parking lot during season. We are nestled right between Husch, the oldest vineyard in the valley and Angel Camp, the newest. ...... The caretaker lives in a separate house on the property and is available to attend to your needs with enough notice. Due to the remote location of the property, cell service can be spotty. Our WiFi can also be somewhat spotty, especially during bad weather. Follow us on Instagram @ themaksimfarm
Our property is in Philo, in the heart of Anderson Valley. You are very close to many great wineries and tasting rooms. Our closest neighbors are Husch Vineyards, Phillips Hill Winery, Navarro Vineyards, Lazy Creek Vineyards and Roederer Estate just to name a few! If you're not in the mood for wine, you can grab a beer at Anderson Valley Brewing Co., visit the goats at Pennyroyal Farm, or hike in Hendy Woods State Park! From Philo, you can continue on Highway 128 through the famous California redwoods to where Highway 128 joins the Pacific Coast Highway at Navarro Beach. Mendocino is about a 45 minute drive. Fort Bragg is about 15 minutes north of Mendocino.
  • Great place to stay for exploring the valley. We had four people in our group and the barn comfortably accommodated our needs. Not a full kitchen but you can make do with what’s provided.

  • Awesome space!

    Felipe2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The loft was just the spot we needed for a getaway weekend from the bustle of the busy Bay Area! The loft had everything we needed and Matt & Jen were responsive, helpful and welcoming.

    Catherine2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful. Cozy. Nice weekend getaway

    Jason2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures are very accurate. We had a nice getaway with our two girls. The beds were luxurious and comfy. The big screen tv and cozy couch were a bonus! We did not notice a mineral smell or taste to the water. Our highlights were Gowans apple stand, the apple farm, grape juice tasting at Navarro, and the highlight, a misty walk through the majestic redwoods in Hendy woods. Matt and Jen were very quick to respond and offered some great suggestions with our kids.

    Marzio2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The barn loft was exactly what we needed. It comfortably fit three adults and a child. It was cute, clean, easy to find, and on gorgeous property. My 7 year old son thought the apple trees were just the coolest thing ever. There was no one in the other rental house on the property so we were lucky enough to be able to wander around without feeling like we were invading anyone’s space, the little hangout area in front of the other house is really neat and the star gazing in Anderson Valley is spectacular. We were affected by the power shut downs and our host reached out to us every step of the way making sure we were ok and didn’t need anything. We would absolutely stay here again any time. I only wish we had more time there.

    Melissa2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a fantastic, private get away. Exactly as described and very clean and spacious. Jen went above and beyond to accommodate us and recommend things to do for our anniversary/bday getaway. Tornado the horse, who roams the property, was a lovely addition to this charming loft in beautiful Anderson Valley. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet and cozy escape.

    Lala2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Maskim BarnLoft was beautiful and spacious! We were in Boonville for a wedding, and had a wonderful stay. We had 4 adults and one child staying comfortably. All directions and communication was perfect and landed us at the doorstep without any problems. My only recommendation would be to instruct guests to bring their own water and coffee. I highly recommend this loft to others and would stay there again myself.

  • I am a travel nurse and we stayed here for 3.5months while I worked in Fort Bragg. (About a 40min commute.) The spot is nice with full hookups and a porch, which is a nice bonus. We parked here with 1st a 32ft travel trailer and truck and then upgraded to a 38ft class A motorhome and both fit well. We travel with 4 cats, a dog, two kids, a motorcycle, an extra vehicle and a small trailer and this space accommodated all of these things. Joel and Pam were both very flexible, helpful hosts and helped us quickly with anything we needed. The walk up and down the property through the redwoods is beautiful and the small creek was a lovely sound. Chickens and goats live on the property (in a separate pen) and the kids enjoyed seeing them and playing with them. There are fruit trees we were able to eat from which was a fun added bonus. There is a small convenient store with gas, air, and some groceries less than a mile away. (Cash only.) There is also a post office in the same location as the store which worked well for us since we stayed for so long and was able to get mail here. The local school had a playground that was a 2 min. drive away that we were able to use as well. We enjoyed a great surfing beach in Casper (30 min. drive) and lots of beach combing time all along the Mendocino coast in Mendocino, Caspar, Fort Bragg, and Little River. We enjoyed our stay here, and would stay here again if we were ever come back to the Northern CA coast.

    Amanda2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! It was a last minute reservation for our two day trip to Fort Bragg. The place met our budget, and we had the privacy that we needed. It was further from town but it provided us with a scenic ride every day that we certainly enjoyed. Waking up surrounded by all the greenery around was fantastic. Nice touch with the porch, chairs and the magazine of the local stores and attractions to get us started. Joel and Pamela are great hosts. Will definitely stay there again!

    Victoria2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely peaceful and serene location. Nestled in the forest but close enough for a quick trip to Mendocino and the coast. I used the RV hookup to charge my Tesla and it worked great (EVs require an adapter so BYO). I even woke up to a doe and her fawn nibbling on the trees outside my car.

    Giulia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • I can not say enough good things about this home. From decor to amenities, everything was thoughtfully selected to complete the Mendocino coast experience. The interior is meticulous--incredibly clean, cozy and inviting. Beds are comfortable with 2 out of 3 King-sized, major plus. We were there for New Years / 60th birthday and cooked a lot of elaborate meals. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need (including all the tools for an impromptu birthday cake). We loved the fenced in front yard, which kept our cars secure from the highway and added to the feel of it being a tucked away oasis. We enjoyed our day trips to the 128 wineries and Fort Bragg breweries but liked our time at the house even more!

    Jessica2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The SeaScape is located on the beautiful Mendocino coast just outside Elk, California. The views are spectacular! The hot tub was clean. The stars and sea were perfect for gazing! Enjoy some time on the coast and choose this listing!

  • Sea Escape is a great escape on a secluded stretch of Hwy 1 with an amazing view, both day and night. By day, the ocean stretches out forever below you, and by night the stars stretch out forever above you. The fireplace flanked by 2 large sliding doors allows for scenic and cozy nights and evenings. The house has everything you need for a quiet, beautiful retreat. Highly recommend!

  • Picture perfect cottage by the sea. Spectacular views on the back deck. The whole place is equipped with all you could need to escape to the coast. Comfortable beds. Great kitchen. We had an amazing, peaceful time.

    Jack2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great view and lovely home! Just be sure to bring supplies (food, coffee, snacks etc) before heading out to the coast. Grocery stores are not close by!

  • Stunning Views and Easy Access to Town...Hoping to Return Soon!

    Chris2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Go here for the view! The amazing deck in the back seems to extend into the Pacific Ocean and offers unobstructed views of the beautiful ocean and accompanying sunsets. Once the sun is well past the horizon, and the stars come out, the remoteness of this location makes it possible to even see the Milky Way (because of the low light pollution)! My mom who joined us on this trip always scrutinizes the kitchens of various rentals we use on vacations. This was by far her favorite and the kitchen is really well equipped with every different kind of pot, pan, spatula and contraption you could need. Not a lot of spices though, so I’d carry some along. Otherwise, the Elk Store is a short five minute drive away. The only downsides I can think of is the fact that the shower in the only bathroom is a bit cramped and that the property does precariously drop off into the ocean (aka a cliff). With our boisterous two year old we had to keep a constant eye out to make sure he didn’t even eye the slat fence at the end of the spacious back yard.

    Kartik2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time in Elk. The house is located right off the highway but that didn't bother us. It was pretty quiet. The deck and view can't be beat. It was truly remarkable. Everything in the house was clean and comfortable--beautiful decor, soft towels and bedsheets and a very comfortable bed. We really had everything we needed and hated to leave.

    Lisa2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Because this was a new listing when we first found it, we were wary about renting - but in the end, we were drawn in by the pictures and the location and rented it in August 2019. The view from the deck was amazing for sunrise, sunset, the night sky, and everything in between. You can easily spend the whole day on the deck, reading, BBQing, and enjoying the sun. The house was very clean, with high-end appliances and amenities. They even had Meyer’s soap and detergent! The location of the house was also great - though it was by the freeway, it wasn’t very active at night, even on the weekends, so it wasn’t very loud at all. It’s only a few minutes drive to Elk for groceries or dining, and half an hour to Mendocino, where we went kayaking. For a family of five, the house was perfectly sized. The internet was in good working order, only a little slow at times but not as bad as we had expected! There was also pretty reliable cell service (we have AT&T) on the deck.

  • Tucked in the back of a historic home on a wooded street with only 4 houses, the Tiny Cabin is a secluded hideaway with everything you could want. Huge bed, well-equipped kitchen, great shower - what more could you ask? How about looking at trees through the skylight, having a little patio to sit in, proximity to both Booneville and the Coast. Dennis made us feel very welcome and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. We loved it!

  • This is a great cozy place to stay along Hwy 128. The location is awesome. Close to the coast, but also close to some great hiking spots, Boonville, and Anderson Valley Brewing Company. The property is beautiful with a perfect redwood feet away from the cabin. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils and pans, though you might want to bring an extra water bottle or two, as drinking water is limited. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud, and the water pressure in the shower is no joke. Dennis was kind and responsive to all questions in a timely manner. I would recommend this as a great play to stay on your tour of Mendocino.

  • A wonderful super relaxing cottage in the Anderson Valley. Possibly the nicest Airbnb kitchen you will ever cook in and the whole place was sparkling clean. Perfectly located for either wine tasting in the valley or day trips to Mendocino. Brian's cottage is a special place to enjoy coastal Mendocino. Also special bonus points for being within walking distance to Goldeneye Winery!

  • This is a really unique property on a quiet expanse of land that offers a chance for some R&R in a beautiful part of California. We enjoyed how remote it felt but how close it’s actually located to Philo and the wineries we enjoy visiting. The expanse of the property and lack of close neighbors means great nature walks and stargazing. The house is a nice mixture of renovated and historical and the kitchen was really great and extremely functional. A few more kitchen tools would be helpful, but we got by and left a set of measuring cups behind for the next guests :)

We have a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, and a spacious living room with a sleeper sofa. Our backyard has gorgeous valley views!
We are a comfy modest farmhouse. While it is a rustic home that’s been in our family since the early 70s, we also have modern amenities. The farmhouse is equipped with WiFi, a large flat screen TV with Roku hookup, space heaters, washer/dryer, microwave, stove and a coffee maker. And we have plenty of games such as darts, cards, dice and board games. The property is kept pretty wild in its natural state.
  • Great location in wine country! Everything we needed for the weekend. We definitely enjoyed some of the games provided while watching movies by the fire after wine tasting. Also the caretakers dog was super friendly and a welcome third guest! If you’re not familiar with Anderson Valley it is impossible to get around if you don’t have a car but the house is right next to 2 wineries definitely in walking distance (under 5min) and a few more if you wish to go farther. We’ll be back!

  • Matt and Jen’s place perfectly met our needs. Their description for advertising the accommodations was absolutely accurate. We appreciated that the house offered some extras like an extensive collection of board games/family games, clothes washing facilities, kitchen and bath amenities, and plenty of space to socialize. The grounds keeper was friendly and there if we needed anything but by no means intrusive. It’s in a great location to explore the area and we will definitely be back and book here again.

  • The farmhouse is a great price point and located conveniently close to local wineries and beautiful trees. Jen is very quick to respond, we picked some pears, and met the lovely caretaker and animals. Please read about refraining from the pond area to respect her privacy, because I did not until after the fact (sorry!), but she was super friendly anyway. The sulfur water is as advertised. Some guests couldn’t stand the boiled egg smell and decided to not shower, so beware. Otherwise it’s not a big deal if you can push through it. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.

  • Matt & Jen's place was exactly what my family and I were looking for during our Alexander Valley Wine Tasting weekend. There was plenty of space for all of us. The fire pit was fantastic to hang out around at night time. The location was perfect - felt secluded but still very close to several delicious wineries. There was a horse and a dog that came to visit us a few times. They were very friendly and super cute. We used the kitchen and found most of the items we needed. The communication was excellent as well! My only minor criticism is that we did come on a very hot weekend and having no AC was a bit tough. We couldn't open the windows without flies coming in. Screens on the windows would take this place up a notch for me. Overall I completely recommend this place and we would absolutely be interested in staying here again.

  • Was working in the area stayed for almost 2 weeks. Great value love the dog and chickens will stay again.

  • Enjoyed staying at Matt and Jen's place. The space was great and felt even larger than the photos made it look. The grounds were quite beautiful and I wish we could have stayed an extra day to relax and take in the scenery. The house was incredibly clean and everything well taken care of. Matt and Jen were also very quick and helpful with communication. Would love to stay here again given the chance!

    Evan2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Matt & Jen's! Really fun, beautiful details, super comfortable, and well located. Would stay again!

  • If you are looking for a house in the middle of Anderson Valley close to the wineries, restaurants and local hiking locations then this is the place for you. Pros: -Beautiful backyard view -Can’t beat price for location -Comfortable beds -Kitchen had all the necessities and more Cons: -The sulfur smell in the water is not slight it is much stronger so be prepared for that, cold water makes it less pungent

The Dome is a wonderful getaway for families or a group of friends. It is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom 2-story home in the heart of the Anderson Valley wine country. Gaze at the stars from the hot tub, sample some fruit from the orchard, explore the redwoods and suspension bridge, swim in the Navarro River and visit local wineries and farms. A true country getaway! It shares the property with a cottage (periodically occupied by the owners), but maintains a feeling of privacy and has amazing views.
In addition to the 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the house includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, play room and TV area. Also included are a radio/CD player, TV (does not show any channels), VCR and DVD players, wireless internet access (no streaming), hot tub, outdoor shower, video and board game collection, hammocks, book library, gas grill and play structure. The kitchen is well stocked and includes all the basics plus a coffee maker, Nespresso machine, microwave, dishwasher, ice cream maker, washer and dryer.
Our neighbors include Blue Meadows Farm with an organic farm stand. Boonville, Philo and Navarro have several fantastic restaurants to enjoy during your stay. Our favorite local attractions include... Philo Apple Farm- Organic apple farm with self serve farm stand, cooking classes, orchard, and farm animals. Started by the owners of the acclaimed French Laundry Restaurant. Wine Tasting- Over 20 wineries with even more tasting rooms. Favorites include Esterlina, Husch, Handley, Toulouse and Balo. Anderson Valley Brewing Company- The Brewery opened its doors in 1987 making and selling its beer at the historic Buckhorn Saloon in Boonville which closed in 2009. In 1996 it moved to its current location at the intersection of 128 and 253 where it now produces over 15,000 barrels of internationally acclaimed beer per year. The Brewery has a tasting room and tours are offered daily. Anderson Valley Historical Museum- Small collection of local, historical memorabilia from the sheep, farming and apple days, Pomo Indian artifacts (some collected from our property) and local cultural history. Swimming Holes- Under the Philo-Greenwood Bridge on the way to Hendy Woods and Mile marker 3.65. Gowan's- This roadside garden and orchard is located 2.5 miles north of Philo on Highway 128. The Gowan's and their ancestors, the Studebaker's have been growing at this site for 120 years. Jim and Jo Gowan are now in their mid seventies but you can still see them working at the stand. With the help of their children and grandchildren they farm 250 acres of apples and peaches plus a 25 acre vegetable garden. Hendy Woods State Park- This state park is inland along the Navarro River, along Hwy 128, 8 miles northwest of Boonville. It's inland location makes the 690-acre park much warmer and sunnier than the parks along the coast, and less crowded, but it contains groves of giant old-growth redwood trees, cool swimming holes in the river, and shady, developed campgrounds. Navarro River Redwoods State Park- The redwoods continue to the coast along the Navarro River and Hwy 128. This strip is called the Navarro River Redwoods and has turnouts for picnicking and river access. The beach at the end of 128 is a favorite. On the Coast Van Damme State Park- This park, just south of Mendocino, consists of a pygmy forest, a fern canyon along Little River, a bog, a sandy beach along a cove and the river mouth, and a protected underwater preserve. The visitor's center here has displays on the undersea environment. The campground here is very much in-demand. Reservations are a must. Manchester State Park- This 5-mile long windswept beach is a beachcomber's paradise. Creeks draining redwood canyons, ocean currents, and winds pile huge amounts of driftwood onto the beach, which beachgoers have built into makeshift shelters from the wind. Also here is a marsh, pond, dunes, and a lagoon. To the south is Point Arena and the picturesque Point Arena Lighthouse. Greenwood State Beach- This beach is 15 miles north of Point Arena. A visitors center in town has displays on life in a lumber town of the 1800's. The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens- The Gardens offer everything from colorful displays to thunderous waves. The mild maritime climate makes it a garden for all seasons, attracting gardeners and nature lovers. With manicured formal gardens, a dense coastal pine forest, native flora and habitats, fern-covered canyons, camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and conifers, heaths and heathers, and flower-filled coastal bluffs overlooking the blue ocean, the garden is a jewel on the Pacific Coast. Located on Hwy 1 between Mendocino and Fort Bragg Mendocino- Mendocino is a charming town well known for its Victorian structures and spectacular coastal views. Mendocino offers a variety of quaint shops, restaurants and fine galleries. There is a nice kid friendly beach, Big River Beach where the Pacific Ocean meets the Big River to form Mendocino Bay. A picturesque path that runs atop the southern bluffs (if you walk EAST), will take you to the wooden staircase that leads down to this sandy beach. The trailhead is located behind the white church as you enter the town of Mendocino. Otherwise, drive South out of Village and take first left before bridge to drive to sand. Elk- The city of Elk, also known to some as Greenwood, is one of the most stunning stops along the Northern California coast. In this little town of about 200, you'll find amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, small galleries, several restaurants and a great hike in (1/2 mi) beach. Skunk Train- The Skunk train ride runs 40 miles between Fort Bragg on the coast and Willits on US Highway 101. You will cross many of the 30 bridges and trestles along the scenic redwood route (almost one bridge for each mile of track!), as well as pass through one of the line's two deep mountain tunnels! This is the ultimate in California western railroad. B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena- A tour at B. Bryan Preserve is designed to give the visitors and animals plenty of space to roam while allowing for close up viewing. Not a zoo, it is a preserve, and so provides open space for the preservation of endangered species. Located on 100 acres, the antelope and zebra are allowed to live in their near-natural environment. Ross Ranch- Go for a private horseback ride on spectacular Manchester Beach's miles of unspoiled sand and surf. Rocks, driftwood, creeks, birds and seastacks dot this vast expanse of beach.
  • The dome home is more beautiful than the pictures give justice! Everything about this place is comfortable and soothing to the soul!

  • Great escape! What a lovely home, great property and relaxing visit

    Richard2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Philo Dome is a special place. We spent a long weekend here (10 people total) and it was really comfortable stay. The wood burning stove kept us warm all weekend and two bathrooms made it easy. The property is beautiful, and would probably be really fun in the summer. There are some walking trails nearby and wine country is only a short drive away. There are a few temperamental things: the hot tub is super finicky so be sure to follow the host's directions. The dishwasher is maddening if it gets into "lock mode" but once we figured it out we were grateful to have it. Highly recommend!

    Vivek2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • I've been staying at Philo Dome for 10 years now. Anderson Valley is already a magical place. Having a cozy cabin-like place right in the middle of the valley makes for continued special trips near our home in San Francisco. The hosts are very good communicators and do their best to keep the dome a unique place for people of all ages.

    Jeff2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Dome House is a charming rustic cottage right at the top of wine country’s relatively undiscovered jewel of a valley. Just minutes from some really lovely (and uncrowded) tasting rooms and truly delicious dining experiences at the Boonville hotel (15 min away) and Bewildered Pig (5 min away). Rebecca was very communicative and accommodating, one of our best AirBnB hosts. The house is heated by wood stove if visiting during fall/winter be prepared to experience what life was like a few decades ago, including clothes that will smell of wood smoke after a day or two. The grounds are wild and full of interesting flora and fauna. The book collection is truly interesting! There is internet access, but streaming movies is not allowed— overall the home is intended to be a moderate escape/haven from modern life and screen time. There are only a couple of local groceries, so be sure to stock up in town before you drive over! There are local fruit stands. The house has all of the most important kitchen amenities and new appliances and a lovely tea selection. Overall, it was like a trip back in time to grandma’s house in the 1970s, in the *best* possible way. :-) <3

    Sandi2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Philo Dome is a unique experience with indoor and outdoor rustic charm. The fire was already built for us to start in the wood burning stove. Ample towels were available for the hot tub. The hanging chairs outside, direct access to the river, and the multiple play areas for kids and dogs was fantastic. It is very close to another small cottage that has other guests (with a shared driveway) but there is plenty of space for both to enjoy the property. We had a great time there and hope to return annually.

    Allison2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca's dome house is a great base from which to explore Philo and Anderson Valley. It's spacious, quiet and great for having a group of friends or a family for a weekend adventure.

    Jason2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Philo Dome is a big and beautiful space on a great and spacious piece of land. The home has a great layout with 2 floors that’s stacked with all the amenities you need and very kid friendly. The playground structure, tree house, kids slide and open space was great for the little ones. The big kitchen, 4 bedrooms and hot tub made for a fun stay for the adults as well. The location was great right next to several vineyards, Navarro being the one we chose to visit. Other than that, there was no need to leave the property at all!

The yurt offers sleeping for 4-12 people a night with twin single and bunk bends. It is great for a group vacation or event. There is a full bathroom attached with 3 stalls and 3 showers. Continental breakfast is included. For the yurt, there is a 4 person minimum. The price for 4 people in the yurt per night is $200 with a charge of $45 per additional person. If you would like to book for more than 12 people, contact us and we will help arrange your stay.
During the summer months of June, July, and August, Blackbird Farm operates as a Farm Stay Inn that hosts weddings, corporate retreats, vacations, and other events. Our farm is a rare jewel in rural Anderson Valley, sitting atop a mountain ridge, surrounded by redwoods and pine trees, containing open meadows, scenic lakes, and established fruit tree groves.
The Anderson Valley itself is home to a bevy of local shops, wineries, farms, and even a brewery. There will be a list of community events updated weekly for guests. There are two State Parks within 10 miles of Blackbird Farm and the closest beach is 15 miles away in Elk. The town of Mendocino is an hour drive through the redwoods and along Hwy 1.
  • If you are looking for a glamping spot for a couple or a group look no farther. This yurt was located on a beautiful property within Anderson Valley. No only was the entire staff knowledgeable and welcoming, they also were engaging and educational and might I add wickedly great cooks! If you are looking for somewhere to be surrounded by nature to get lost in conversation there is no better spot. The yurt was clean and the stars were so bright we even slept under them one night. The pool was clean and there is also a whole farm full of animals to explore. Night time we spent star gazing in the hot tub in the middle of a pond (I kid you not). This place was all sorts of magical! Now if you’re a foodie you are going to be taken aback by the fresh egg breakfasts, fresh fruit and even the pizza made in their outdoor oven. I could go on forever about how wonderful Josh and his team were or how the stay was extraordinary but I’ll stop here and let you try it for yourself!

  • We had a lovely long weekend at the Farm Stay and I really don't think the pictures or description do this wonderful place justice. The location, albeit remote, is so beautiful. Open pastures and big trees, and rolling hills and I could go on and on. It's a great place for children- animals, pool, swing, open areas to walk and run and explore. The staff are super nice! The food is outstanding! We originally booked for the yurt, not realizing there were also cabins, and were upgraded by the manager. The cabin was amazing, and not what I would consider cabin-y at all, actually. Nice open porch (ADA compliant- nice touch), huge comfortable beds, soaking jacuzzi tub, fireplace and kitchenette- it was pretty dang fabulous. Everything was super clean and gorgeous. They gave us a pack and play for the baby, and we brought our mattress. We enjoyed dinner the first night (delicious) but were meeting friends in Boonville at the weekend or we would have had every meal at the farm. The animals on the farm are really very sweet, and my oldest son was able to hold a baby cow (!!) and pet some horses (they offer horse rides, but the timing didn't work for us due to other obligations). Absolutely recommend this place to everyone, but especially families.

  • I stayed in the yurt at Blackbird Farm with 10 friends for a bachelorette party, and it could not have been a more wonderful weekend. Rachel was incredibly helpful and responsive - she advised on wineries to visit, set up our cooking class and meals and was totally flexible as we were ironing out timing and details with the large group. The setting at Blackbird Farm is unbeatable. It was so peaceful and cozy. A highlight was the outdoor jacuzzi in the middle of a pond, where we enjoyed an evening under the stars. The breakfasts and lunch were also delicious and Danny was a fantastic jam-making teacher. Thank you Blackbird Farm for such a memorable weekend!

  • Awesome stay!

    Jennifer2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • This quiet and secluded location is perfect for a family getaway. The yurt was an adventure for our little ones who enjoyed the bunk bed set up. Continental breakfast was perfect-- yogurt, hardboiled eggs, muffins, toast, fruit and coffee served in the quaint and clean main farmhouse. The grounds are just gorgeous! We enjoyed walking around with Rachel to see the animals, garden, and amenities. I'd recommend letting her know ahead of time if you would like to access anything listed as some of the extras take staff present to be able to do. We weren't ready to do so anyway since we were in town to see friends, but if anything interests you (ropes course, e.g.!) be sure to ask ahead of time. One thing to note is that the farm is located in a clearing up a big hill. It is about 7-10 minutes up a dirt road from 128. Our minivan made it up and down easily, but once we were up we didn't want to go back down! This is perfect if you plan to stay for a while, but less ideal if you plan to do a lot of driving up and down daily. Of course, this might be fine with you -- our 6 year old was not exited. I agree with other reviewers that the photos don't do the location justice. The animals, garden, sky, lake, and grounds are beautiful. Staff are just lovely! While they are still working through the initial kinks of hosting summer guests, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a location for a retreat-ful vacation.

  • Awesome place to stay with a group of friends. Super communication, great activities and facilities. Bedding, towels and essentials all included. Row on the lake to ensure relaxation and the continental breakfast was a great spread.

  • Fun little place in a beautiful location. Enjoy your time away from the madness of big cities and really take in the sounds of the ocean and birds.

    Kapil2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little romantic getaway. The photos do justice of the views from inside and outside of the property. Waking up to the sunrise and ocean just outside of the bedroom window is worth the price of admission alone. However, if privacy is a concern I would recommend this small house for just a single couple or small family.

    Dylan2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • You cannot beat the location. We could hike down the beach, walk into the small town store for snacks, drinks, and what not. It's a retreat but not too far off the beaten path. I think the overlooking deck has more potential but aside from that the space is wonderful and my family of four simply loved it. What a retreat.

  • Can’t beat the location! Amazing view and beach access

    John2019-09-25T00:00:00Z

  • Such a wonderful peaceful spot. Beautiful ocean view, close proximity to the beach, and such a cozy little cottage with plenty amenities. And, we just loved being able to walk up to an art gallery, shops & Queenies Roadhouse Cafe. We loved it!

We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods. A true retreat and sanctuary. A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. We first noticed how undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun makes its way through the trees. The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby. Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play. The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here. The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon. Proximity. We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is often sunny and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin. Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes. The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow next to redwood trees; also perfect for stargazing. Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless. Check in: ideally from 4 pm - 6 pm by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Check out before noon. By making a reservation, you confirm that you understand our strict cancellation policy. Please protect your holiday with Trip & Travel Insurance. Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays less than 30 days.
Our homestead is in the middle of timberland. There really isn't a neighborhood. Closest restaurants (Ledford House)(Albion River Inn) are 6 miles; closest store and post office (Albion) are 7 miles.

  • This place is exactly what I thought it would be based on the listing here, and I mean that in the best way possible. We had high hopes for getting away from our lives to find some quiet, read and eat some healthy food we brought from home. This place delivered and was super cozy, even when it got cold out. • A weekend getaway with my partner up in the Northern California coast was made more memorable by Karen and Will’s lovely owl tree cabin. We enjoyed reading Will’s poems and the quietness and relaxed environment this cabin afforded us to have! What an amazing getaway.

  • Our second visit here! We love using the cabin as a home base for exploring the Mendocino Coast and Anderson Valley. In addition to being such a well-designed, well-built sanctuary, the Owl Tree Cabin is also a wonderfully functional space. We like making our vacation dollars last by preparing meals from delicious local fare in the cabin kitchen which has everything you need and nothing you don't. Karen's recommendations for local spots are excellent as well. We hope to visit again!

  • Karen was such a gracious and warm host. She gave us a tour of the beautiful cabin and was kind enough to leave us an umbrella as it was raining outside. The cabin is a special place and we loved our time here. We highly recommend it for those seeking an escape and some quiet time to reflect and recuperate.

  • A must book spot in the midst of the woods. Enjoy the serene and calm, quiet place to hideout from the city noise. Karen and Will are great, super helpful and takes an extra effort to make sure we are enjoying our stay. Glad to have chosen this spot, we will definitely try to come back again.

  • Amazing space and off the grid! Very cozy and a wonderful weekend away in the woods! It’s our 2nd time staying in this Airbnb and we would happily visit again! Thanks Karen!

  • We loved staying at Karen’s cabin. It was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. The cabin was so cute and she left us treats to welcome us. The setting was so magical, we can’t wait to come back!

  • The Elk Cove Inn & Spa was everything we hoped it would be and more. A beautiful, cozy room in a gorgeous location. Friendly, helpul staff - and a delicious breakfast. We enjoyed the fireplace in our room and taking a walk down to the beach. Thanks for a fantastic stay! We hope to return soon.

  • Was made to feel very welcome. The room was charming, comfortable and very clean. The location and views were unforgettable.

  • Elaine and the Elk Cove Inn & Spa was just wonderful. The accommodations left nothing to be desired, and the view and access to the coast is above and beyond other places we've stayed in the area. One of us had a broken foot, and they made sure our room was accessible and that we had everything we needed. On top of that, the breakfast was -amazing-. Great variety no matter the way you like to breakfast, and as they said, "If you have lunch, you left too soon."

  • What a spectacular location!! Very short walk to the beach that puts you in the place we all need to be...face to face with the power of the Pacific Ocean. We got our fix and then slept comfortably in the Cypress Garden room. Needs update but there are so many options for upgrades, just call--Elaine is open and accommodating and will take the moment to find out what she can do to make your stay perfect.

  • Elk Cove Spa and Inn was amazing! My girlfriend and I spent NYE here and we loved every minute of it! The breakfast each morning was delicious and Elaine was a wonderful host! We also were lucky enough to get upgraded to a beautiful ocean view room that really made our trip so wonderful! 100% we plan to return here!

  • Elk Cove Inn & Spa is an extraordinarily beautiful place. The beach below the house is stunning and a secluded place to walk and take photos. We were booked into the Hideaway room which was part of the former spa location so a fantastic and large walk in shower. Unfortunately they haven't worked out the acoustic isolation issues in this newly configured space-we were able to hear our neighbors as if they were in our room. When we raised concerns our host Elaine immediately moved us to a much larger and nicer room facing the ocean and we felt like royalty. The breakfast feast is to die for. I would absolutely come back to this place. It was a splurge for us but well worth it. Elaine was the perfect host and completely focused on each of her guests having a wonderful experience.

Philo California, is in the heart of the Anderson Valley. A 2 1/2 hour drive from the bay area. There are a multitude of wineries, wonderful hikes and the coast is a short drive away.
  • I had a nice stay in the Maple Leaf cabin this weekend. It was a lot like a camping experience but a lot more comfortable. I found the cabin to be cozy. It is small and primarily meant for sleeping. There is a very nice skylight above the bed in the front section that allowed me to look at the stars before going to sleep and brought in a lot of nice sunlight in the morning. Although I was in the cabin by myself, it would be perfect for a family with kids or a group of friends. The surrounding area is beautiful. Right next to the cabin is a path leading down to the river. Skip was very friendly and accommodating and helped me feel welcome. All in all, I found this space to be a great place to get away from the city and unwind for a little bit!

  • We had a wonderful stay - the Maple Leaf cabin was rustic and charming - perfect for our family of 4. The beds were comfortable. We brought our own food and cooked on our camp stove, which felt easy with the fridge available to store food. The grounds are beautiful - classic Mendocino, and the swimming hole is perfect. Sitting out at night on the porch you can see so many stars! Everyone we met was friendly and helpful.
