Your guide to Morrison

All About Morrison

Located at the bottom of Bear Creek Canyon just under 20 miles southwest of Denver, Colorado, Morrison is a small town that has drawn music lovers for decades, as the state’s most famous concert venue is located within its city limits.

No matter if you’re here for the unique shops found along Morrison’s main street or to rock out at Red Rocks Amphitheater, this Colorado city offers plenty of entertainment and outdoor recreation options.

A drive along the Lariat Loop National Scenic Byway is a great way to explore the surrounding area. If you want to check out some of Colorado's magnificent scenery a bit closer to town, you can take the bike path at the edge of Morrison that leads to Bear Creek Lake Park, which has miles of well-kept trails and a beautiful reservoir perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding. Additionally, the vibrant city of Denver is just 20 minutes away, giving you access to all the amenities of a big city without having to stray too far from the red-rocked foothills.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Morrison

Thanks to the great array of activities found here, Morrison is a wonderful year-round destination. The summer has long, sunny days and is a great time to explore the surrounding landscape. This is one of the busiest times of the year, which is good to keep in mind when booking cabins in Morrison. The spring and fall are quieter months perfect for exploring wildflowers and autumn leaves that create a dazzling splash of color in the Rocky Mountains. During the winter, the temperature drops, and snow begins to fall, which is perfect for taking advantage of Colorado’s ski resorts.

Top things to do in Morrison

Red Rocks Amphitheater

This open-air amphitheater is built directly into Colorado’s red rock landscape. It’s surrounded by two monoliths, giving the space high sound quality and attracting performers from around the world to hold concerts here.

Dinosaur Ridge

You can literally walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs at Dinosaur Ridge, where dinosaur prints are entombed in sandstone. This National Natural Landmark showcases more than 300 dinosaur tracks and more than 15 fossil and geologic sites, including fascinating “ripple marks” that were left behind by the waves that used to kiss this former beach.

Lariat Loop National Scenic Byway

This gorgeous byway stretches 40 miles through the pine-covered Rocky Mountains to the top of Lookout Mountain, a 7,000-foot-tall peak. Along the way, you’ll pass through the historic town of Golden, a gold rush town that was the former territorial capital of Colorado.
