The River Den is a 4 season houseboat, docked in picturesque Wakefield, Qc on the Gatineau River. This dream boat is a floating tiny house which does not have hot water, electricity, or a fridge (we do supply a cooler). There's a cozy woodstove, cooking facilities and dry composting toilet on board.
The River Den is a 4 season (fully insulated) houseboat, a custom built creation designed by myself and my former partner who is the builder. The Den is 33 feet long with 23 feet of inside cabin space. The Den has a cozy wood stove and a second story sleeping loft with a very comfortable queen size bed. The loft has a steel grill floor feature, great for fresh air and heat circulation and for letting the sunlight into the main cabin from above! There is a full carpeted roof top deck, perfect for stargazing, yoga or suntanning and a front deck for lounging and has a swimming ladder. The boat has 3 eight ft patio doors and circular windows, a custom steering wheel and many more handmade rustic features! There is no 120v electricity on the boat (which means no regular plug in electricity). We can provide a power pack for charging your devises if needed. On bord is a Seperett dry compost toilet. There are no locks on the boat from the outside. Only from the inside (poles to lock the patio doors). It's a safe place and very quiet. Note: The Boat will be docked and guests cannot drive the boat. The boat is on the Gatineau River; great swimming and fishing. Also there is an expedition shop next door which rents kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, bikes, snowshoes, skis and more. Pls note there are steep stone steps leading down to the boat. Wear appropriate footwear! High heels not recommended;) We supply: -firewood -drinking water from the Wakefield spring -coffee and tea (no cream :) -butane and fuel for cooking stove and BBQ -medium sized cooler with ice packs 4 SEASON STAYS: The houseboat is fully insulated and has double pane windows all around. Making for a very cozy time all year long. It's very comfortable in the winter months. Bring some slippers or big socks. The steps down to the boat can be slippery if there is rain or snow so please arrive in appropriate footwear. In the winter months there is no running water, but the drain in the sink still works and therefore guests can still do dishes, etc. We ask that guests warm a pot of water on the woodstove to have hot water for doing dishes to make sure they are shiny for the next guests! UTube: " Houseboat " for a video tour of the River Den , made by our friends at Exploring Alternatives.
A few kms downstream from the Heart of Wakefield....charming, colorful in buildings and local characters! Cafes, boutiques, rail road tracks, spas, vintage shops, bakeries, great food, bars, swimming, water sports and fishing in the Gatineau river. Amazing trails for cross x skiing , skating, hiking, biking trails and 4 good ski hills within 15 min drive. Ice fish right from the boat in the winter! The River Den is 25 min. from the nations capital with multitudes of museums, galleries and historic landmarks to visit if you feel the need to visit the city as well. Many of our guests enjoy just getting off the grid for a couple of days, enjoying the sublime peacefulness and beauty of the Gatineau River.

  • Bonnie’s little boat house is so cute and cozy. Although we didn’t meet with Bonnie at check in, Neal was super kind and helpful. He brought us so water since there is no running water on the boat house. This was helpful do we could cook and clean. This lil getaway is perfect for 2 people and super romantic! Thanks again Bonnie!

  • Excellent spot ! Quiet and cozy - everything about the stay was perfect !

    Joel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • As expected this is a house boat in the winter! So as long as you stay on top of stocking the fire and expect to be a wee bit chilly in the morning, this is an adorable retreat! Close to Wakefield, Chelsea, gorgeous views and comfortable bed! Would absolutely recommend Bonnie’s river den.

    Nicole2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie's place was excellent. The little boat had everything we needed, extra blankets, Cooler, propane stove, coffee maker. They were able to accomdate us for an early check in. It was only ten minutes to the nordik spa, minutes away from the little town of Wakefield.

Modern ecofriendly cabin with private river access nestled on a 100 acre property in a quiet area of Wakefield. Come relax and recharge for a few days while taking advantage of the bucolic surroundings, wildlife, cozy interior with fireplace. There is plenty of activities to do nearby: discover Wakefield, its restaurants, boutiques, organic farms, ski hills, golf, snowshoe/hike around the property or in nearby Gatineau Park, unwind at the Spa (we offer 10% off to the Nordik Spa), etc.
The vacation home is part of the Wakefield sur le Golf project which offers you private access to the river, parks and trails. The home is less than a 10 minute drive from the Wakefield village and is located in a very private area - great for unwinding and relaxing. You will surely enjoy the large floor-to-ceiling windows (10 feet) throughout the kitchen and living room. It gives the impression of actually being outside in the nature! The kitchen is well equipped for those who love to cook (quality knives, Creuset pan, Blentec blender, etc.). There is also good coffee gear (Hario V60 pour-over, french press/Bodum, and manual grinder). You can also use the SodaStream for some sparkling water! A canoe, paddles and life vests are also available for guest use.
Escape the daily grind! The house is located on the Wakefield sur le Golf project which is located in the heart of Wakefield’s recreational tourism region. This includes three ski hills, two golf courses, a waterpark, spa (Nordik), several equestrian facilities, and of course the Gatineau River. The area offers easy access to the magnificent Gatineau Park, including numerous hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails, as well as the beautiful sandy beaches of Philippe Lake and La Pêche Lake. Dog sledding expeditions can also be organized. Established in 1830, the village of Wakefield is the economic and cultural centre of the region. The boardwalk along the river runs alongside an ideal village setting with cafes, bistros, delis, boutiques, a farmer's market and art galleries. The village is a true reflection of the values of its creative and independent merchants and was the first village in the province to be a designated FairTrade Village by Transfair Canada. The area is conveniently served by schools, supermarkets, a hospital, and a new scenic highway connecting the municipality to downtown Ottawa in just 35 minutes. Escape the daily grind and come stay with us!
  • What a beautiful, relaxing spot for a weekend away! We were excited to stay here given all the great reviews, but our stay was even better than expected! It was impeccably clean, well-stocked, stylish, and comfortable. The wood stove was so cozy and we loved the outdoor fire pit. We wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you Marc Andre and Nicolas for a wonderful stay!

  • Wonderful relaxing retreat in a great location! My girlfriend and I just finished a week here and really appreciated the design, openness and the many touches in the cabin, which is located in a beautiful natural setting. While very private, it is also a short drive to Wakefield and it’s shops and amenities, as well as surrounded by great walking and hiking trails. The cabin itself was open and airy in the main area, surrounded by trees and hills and full of wildlife, while the bedroom was very comfortable and bathroom had all of the modern amenities one could desire including a soaker tub and large shower. Marc and Nic were excellent hosts, the check in was seamless, communication fast and helpful and area suggestions much appreciated. We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a very comfortable, quiet retreat and we plan to be back here again soon.

  • We had the Leap Year celebration that we were dreaming of at Marc André's cozy cabin. As others have commented, it is even better than the pictures. I wish that we could have stayed longer! If you are visiting or working in the Ottawa area and want to unplug for a while, this place is pure genius.

  • Beautiful place, my wife and I loved it! You will not be disappointed by staying here!

    Domenic2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful inside and out. The perfect way to enjoy a below freezing day: by the fire, in a mostly glass house, with no tv, Bose sound, soaking up the flora and fauna while lingering over brunch with the ones you love. Comfort. h y g g e

    Tamara2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage is actually nicer than the pictures! Very clean and stylish, equipped with all you need for enjoying your stay. Marc is a great host, and communicated with us very well. We will absolutely go back again. Thank you Marc.

  • I just want to take this opportunity to share my experience at your cabin. My husband surprised me by booking your cabin for a St. Valentin getaway. I wasn't expecting this at all. WOW! What a great place you have! I was speechless! Your cabin is absolutely gorgeous, clean, inviting and for me very romantic. Your cabin shouted peace, tranquility & serenity. Waking up & having a coffee and watching the blue jays flying around. No Internet or television was a great getaway to unplugged and recharged with my husband. It was really peaceful! We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit by talking and laughing together. Not to mention the inside fireplace that made your place warm and cozy. You have thought of every little detail. Everything is marked and at its place. I felt at home. My husband & I have already shared your link & hope to return soon. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • Had such a lovely time visiting Wakefield, Quebec. The wood burning fireplace in the house made it so warm and cozy! Wonderful amenities, such as the BBQ which we used every night. The house was extremely clean and we received prompt responses from the host. I would highly recommend visiting, and while you’re there you must visit the Nordik Spa!

Escape from the pressures of life and slow things down enough to enjoy the perfect getaway in Wakefield! Our cozy Cabin sits on 2 beautifully situated acres. You are close enough to everything in the region that is fun and exciting...but private enough to enjoy what the great outdoors has to offer. Far enough to be secluded but close enough to reap the rewards... simply 10 minutes away from the village of Wakefield and about 20 minutes from Chelsea, Quebec!
The Cabin has everything you need to make your stay comfortable and care-free. We have a fully equipped kitchen that includes a stove, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and all the utensils you will need. Our dining area has a table, chairs and bench, all surrounded by a wonderful view. The entertainment space has a comfortable reclining couch, 55" TV, Xbox 360, DVD player and fireplace to top it off. The master-bedroom is on the main floor and has a custom built rustic bed with walk-in closet. The bathroom is also conveniently located on the main floor and has a large comfortable bath and separate standup shower. On the second floor, there is an amazing loft with a great view because of the large windows. The loft has a lounge area with a couch and chairs. This is a great place for playing board games, working on puzzles or just lounging around. The green game cabinet is stocked with plenty of board games and puzzles to keep you busy! The open concept lounge also has a second cozy reading area and the bunk bed. The bunk bed is a single on the top and a double bed on the bottom. Outdoors we have a BBQ, patio set, hot tub, fire pit and some comfortable Adirondack chairs that are perfect for sitting in with a nice hot cup of coffee or tea (coffee and tea is also included). The main thing you need to know about the space is...we've got you covered!
The Cabin is perfectly situated in the middle of the woods, giving you your privacy, but it's close enough to everything in the area that is fun and exciting. For example: i) the Edelweiss Ski Center (5-minute drive), the town of Wakefield (10-minute drive), where you will find an abundance of restaurants, shops, grocery store, bakeries, and of course, the Wakefield Mill. ii) The Gatineau Park (10-minute drive) great for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and hiking. iii) The Vorlage Ski Hill (10-minute drive) iv) Mont-Cascades Ski Hill (10-minute drive) v) The town of Chelsea (15-minute drive) where this quinte village also has great restaurants, shops, Camp Fortune Ski Hill, and the infamous "Nordik Spa". vi) Downtown Ottawa (25-minute drive) where we have great restaurants, shopping, movie theatres, museums, the National Art Center and the Parliament building.
  • We went to the cabin for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint! The cottage location is very private. It is well stocked with all the essentials and is impeccably clean, cozy and inviting. Ottawa is just a half hour drive away for any sightseeing you want to do there. Carianne is a wonderful host, who makes herself available at any time for questions or concerns. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay for any length of time, I highly recommend - whether it be a romantic trip for two or a week away with the kids. There is plenty to do, both inside and around the cabin!

    Becca2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough amazing things about our stay . The cabin was absolutely spectacular . Warm, beautiful, cozy, inviting and full of little touches that added an extra little something special that truly made you feel like you were home .We weren’t missing anything . Carianne was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed . We can’t wait to come back .

  • What you see on the pictures is what you get... and even better. Carianne’s place is awesome.

    Guy2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this beautiful cabin. It is thoughtfully laid out, extremely well appointed, carefully organized, and somehow both cozy and spacious. The place has everything you could imagine needing or wanting, from raclette machine to popcorn maker to crisp tv to gorgeous scenery. The forest surroundings are as pretty as they are peaceful. We chose to spend more time in the cabin than we’d expected because it was so lovely. The surrounding area is full of fun things to do, all within easy reach. We can’t wait to vacation here again and again.

  • Had an amazing time, would book this cabin again

    John2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is definitely a place we add to our list of annual family getaways! The cottage was so beautiful and so private and a great place to relax. The hot tub was well maintained and perfect to enjoy on cold winter nights. Our young kids thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities at the cabin that kids love... xbox, games, hot tub, popcorn maker, etc. The place was beautifully decorated and the bathroom is like a spa. The location is perfect as it minutes away from ski hills and fine dining and shops at Wakefield. There are way to many amazing things to list about this place so book it and enjoy! Carrianne is an amazing host and was promptly available to answer a few questions we had before and during our booking. Thanks again for the great stay!

    Derek2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Most amazing cabin ever! You can't go wrong with this one. The pictures do not do justice. The location is perfect, and close to everything. The cabin is filled with unique touches and has everything you could need during your stay. Carianne is a fantastic host and is quick to reply if needed. I will definitely be coming back. I loved it!

This house/cottage is 40 minutes from Ottawa and 10 minutes from Wakefield. Situated by a lake and near Edelweiss, it is perfect for summer or winter getaways. The surrounding area is wooded and very quiet. Access to the lake is a two-minute walk. It is down a steep path through the property, across a rarely-used dirt road, and down another short, steep path down to the water. The house is surrounded by woods and a small part of the lake is visible from the outdoor porch. There is one bedroom downstairs and there are two bedrooms upstairs, along with an open loft space. From the second floor there are beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Amenities include: •Fully stocked pantry •Woodburning stove •Excellent cellphone/data reception but no Wifi •DVD and 19” screen •Barbecue •Canoe, lifejackets and paddles for children and adults
The house is located in a quiet community on a lake in the Gatineau Hills. There are some year-round residents and others are weekenders. The neighbours are respectful, quiet and helpful. You will meet them walking their dogs or out canoeing. All speak French and English. The nearby town of Wakefield has restaurants, bakeries, cafes, shops and live music. Wifi available in many locations.
  • Kate’s cottage is a beautiful getaway in the woods, on an amazing pristine lake. You know as you’re driving that it will be amazing as you climb higher into the hills. Very clean and with a well appointed kitchen that had everything we needed. Beautiful time spent by the water on the dock in the sun and the autumn colours were fabulous! Highly recommend. The town of Wakefield is close enough with delicious treats and Kate has all the suggestions you’ll need. :)

  • A spacious private retreat. Kate's communication was welcoming, clear and timely. The house had lots of room and was inviting, incredibly well stocked and clean. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Janet2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place with all that you need and more in a beautiful setting. Tons to do locally in the gorgeous area and in lovely Wakefield. Kate is a great host and her place is just so wonderful.

    Leslie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place is fantastic. Beautiful design, perfectly clean, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sleeping locations, and the lake is amazing (it's warmer than you would expect). The driveway up to the house is a bit of a challenge for some cars but there is a spot to park at the bottom if you prefer. All around, a fantastic getaway in the middle of the forest, but only 45 mins from Ottawa.

    Graeme2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage with close location to the Gatineau park and Ottawa. Also, nice access to the clean lake. Very impressive books in the cottage. If I had time I could read many of these books. Fresh air definitely was an additional bonus.

    Krzysztof2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The chalet is well located and a good atmosphere permeates the place. It's a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate! Everything you need in the cottage is available. Canoe ballads on this beautiful lake are very nice!

    Stéphane2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time at Kate's place. The lake was definitely our favourite part of the week...it is deep off the dock, reasonably warm and perfect for hours of swimming and water play. We canoed around the lake several times as well. The only disappointment there was that the fishing was not what my husband had hoped. Inside the cottage was clean, roomy and we found everything we needed...extra towels, even sunscreen and bug spray. There are two separate living spaces so there was lots of room to relax and read or play games. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the location was lovely.

Very bright and cozy studio house with wonderful views of nature out all windows. This small house is definitely off the beaten path and great for a total escape. During the winter months when weather is unpredictable you may have to walk up the driveway depending on your vehicle. Winter tires are a must and AWD is recommended but not always necessary. We are here to assist you. The house is located on our property but very private and separate.
This is a rural setting located at 243 Ch Du Lac Bernard. The house on the same property as ours yet very private as all windows face off into nature. You have your own outdoor space with a campfire if you wish to use it. We share a driveway and you drive past our house to get to yours. We are a family of 4 living in the adjacent house with two kids aged 12 and 14. We also have a small dog. You will be left completely alone unless you request our assistance with something and we will be happy to help. Driving times Wakefield 12 mins. Lac Phillip Sector of Gatineau Park - hiking, snow shoeing and skiing 10 -15 mins Downhill skiing at: Vorlage in Wakefield 12 mins. Sommet Edelweiss 25 mins. Mont Ste. Marie 45 mins. Ottawa 45 mins
This is a beautiful area to live in with pastural fields of sheep, small lakes with swimming holes and plenty to do year round. The small house is located on our residential property but is still very private. We are always close by to answer questions and offer ideas on what to do in the area. If staying in and hibernating, writing or just relaxing during your stay is what you desire we can assure you will have complete privacy. We like our privacy too! This is a farming area and we have chickens and equipment sheds. We are also bee keepers and gardeners. We have a vegetable garden but no bee hives at the residence. None of this will affect your place but you will drive by chickens on the way to your house.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Lucille’s private and cozy cabin! The cabin is one of the most thoughtfully and creatively designed spaces we have visited, and it captures the stunning view of the valley. Lucille and Leaf are generous and very helpful hosts! Great location for outdoor activities in Gatineau park, Wakefield or Nordik Spa depending what your interests are. We would definitely go back !

    Muneesha2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really nice stay at this cabin in the middle of the woods. The studio is well designed, the kitchen is complete, there is even a bunch of spices and other little things. Lucille answered really quickly when we texted her with questions, which is always nice. This Airbnb is the perfect setting for a nice and relaxing vacation.

  • Beautiful cabin! It was even better than expected. Kim and Scott were very responsive hosts. Highly recommended!

  • Cozy Bear cabin is fantastic! It has become our yearly tradition to escape to the cabin every year for our anniversary. It has become our sanctuary away from home. We love our time spent there. Kim and Scott are great hosts.

    Jennifer2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay!

    Janet2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy and secluded cabin next to Lac Gauvreau, perfect for a romantic getaway. We stayed four nights and went cross-country skiing during the day in Gatineau Park. We particularly loved the hot tub and fireplace. Kim and Scott were model hosts, even coming over personally to help us out with a couple requests, and generously greeting us with a bottle of sparkling wine. The kitchen is fully equipped and the king size bed is very comfortable. As it is a cabin, be aware that there is no wifi, and the water from the lake is for showers, dishes, etc only - however, drinking water is provided. It is not a large cabin so I would not recommend more than two people, especially if you have equipment and clothes for outdoor activities. Overall we loved the experience and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a spot that is rustic yet very comfortable and accessible, located next door to beautiful Gatineau Park.

    Brendan2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Scott's cabin is exactly as listed. It's super cosy and was the perfect amount of space for my fiancee and I along with our dog Winston. We spent one of our days at Nordik Spa which is just a 25 minute drive from the cabin. Walking along the icy, snow covered lake in the early mornings was the perfect way to start our days too. Definitely recommend this lovely little cabin for a weekend getaway!

    Amanda2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little cabin for 2. It was peaceful and comfortable. An excellent winter place and the hosts were friendly and helpful with everything. Making a fire in the evening was our favourite part. Thank you!

    Sabina2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • They were very nice hosts! The cabin was very clean and they responded right away! I would definitely come back again.

  • This was our third stay at Jozef’s beautiful cabin. We had our kids (3 and 2) in tow and they loved the space and the twin beds in the lower level. We appreciated the amenities and thoughtful touches, such as the kids dishes and cutlery in the kitchen. The location is amazing - just a short walk down the road to get to lovely Edelweiss Ski Resort. We had a fantastic stay and will absolutely return!

  • Beautiful cabin & interior. Great location. Went skating through the forest, which was a 3 min drive away. Lots of kitchen supplies to cook with. We had a lovely time!

  • Very nice place ... lots of nice touches! Go for it!

    Genevieve2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Kaara and Stacy's place was just like the pictures with special little extras to boot. My little two loved the toy selection and hammock. My 4-year-old also told me how much he LOVED the water (it comes from an artesian well and tastes amazing). The view couldn't be more beautiful. When an unexpected problem arose, the owners were easy to reach and quick to send help. Our family of 6 would go back in a heartbeat.

    Trista2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our stay at Oslo Hus. The place was very clean and it was great to have small notes perfectly placed throughout the living space to help us. Great location and amazing view! Their chalet is beautifully decorated and feels really cozy.

  • We had an excellent stay here! The cottage was beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The hosts responding quickly to any messages we sent and were very clear about the rules and expectations which made our stay even easier. Very peaceful and quiet, the lack of cell service was not missed at all. A great way to detach from a busy life and just relax and unwind. We loved the view during the day and the warmth from the woodstove at night. We would absolutely stay here again!

    Sean2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so very wonderful. Stylish, with everything we could possibly need (though, please do make a mental note that you have to bring your own bedsheets and pillowcases). Prime location, overlooking the lake, and just a few minutes away from the stunning Patinage en Forêt. We loved it!

    Dian2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We are a city/suburb couple looking for a quick road trip with a beautiful space and scenery. We had a great stay here! This area is so peaceful and relaxing. You're required to bring your own towels and sheets but prefer to do this when we can so it's a non-issue for us. This house is very well equipped with everything we needed to make meals and the space is very comfortable. Great recommendations to checkout a nearby town called Wakefeild and the locals were so friendly! We also took a day trip to Ottawa which is about a 45minute drive. If you're going during winter, we highly recommend checking out skating in the forest, it is magical. Great little touches around the home and we appreciated all the little notes around the place! Last but not least, the water pressure in the shower was better than expected which was a great surprise:) Definitely worth the trip out here.

River Studio is a sweet rustic little spot. Perfect for a couple to spend a romantic weekend or a writer to hide out and finish her first novel. It is nestled in the woods but located within walking distance of the artistic village of Wakefield. Skiing, horseback riding, hiking, art galleries, interesting bars and fine dining are just minutes away. While at River Studio, enjoy the cozy space, have a sauna and use the very private outdoor shower. (Don't worry, we have an indoor shower too.)
There are very few, if any places in the area on Airbnb suited for 2 people, let along one so intimate, cozy and private - let alone directly on the river, within an easy walking distance to the Village.
It certainly has been suggested that there is no place like Wakefield in all of Canada: - 23 minutes from a major urban area (happens to the Capital) - more restaurants, cafes and, live music per capita than New York City (Ok helps when there are only 400 people in the village, but still, over 10 places to eat, drink and/or listen to live music) - picturesque with the hills, river and a defined Village. The water quality to so good, you can virtually drink it. Hiking and walking trails galorer, both in the immediate environs and a 10 minute walk away from the Gatineau Park. - Ski Hill - General Store (which is a full grocery store) - Bicycles, canoe and stand-up paddle board rental shop The list goes on - a Village that has everything.
  • This could not have been a more perfect stay, everything was perfect and I cannot wait to come back; You will LOVE it and you won't want to leave :-)

    Sarah2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The River Studio was such a tranquil, cozy spot with a beautiful view of the river. The private sauna was a perfect way to unwind after spending time skiing in Gatineau Park. The cabin was warm, clean, and had everything we needed to prepare simple meals and coffee. Allyson provided very thorough & clear instructions for us on arrival and for check out and we knew we could reach out if needed. Thanks again!!

  • This is our second time staying at Allysun’s cabin. We love it, location is great. Wonderful place to get away from the city for a night. Nature lovers will be happy. Relaxing and comfortable

    Krista2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Allysun's place was the perfect spot for a quiet, cozy getaway for two. Perched on a hill just above the Gatineau River, it has beautiful views of the river and surrounding hills. The big windows let loads of sunlight in, and the little woodstove added a touch of extra warmth and charm to our stay. Getting to relax in the sauna was quite a treat as well! All in all, I would highly recommend a stay at the River Cabin.

    Samantha2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our time here! The setting was beautiful and it was perfect for the two of us.

    Owen2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful stay. The view, the fireplace, location were all wonderful. Very clean! Would love to stay in the fall so we could see the colors and open the window. 20 min walk to town where there are a few great bars. The tv has hookups to bring either a DVD player or hard drive to watch movies. We could not have asked for a better experience!

    Sarah2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome stay. The studio is really cute and has so many windows. It was super cozy to sit by the woodstove and enjoy the beautiful view of the forest and river. The hosts were friendly and quick to respond.

    Kira2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • As the other reviews say, this place is a great little getaway for a couple! We particularly enjoyed the privacy, view of the river from the sauna, the wood stove, and the sauna itself of course. Location was also ideal - close to Wakefield town and also plenty of trails and slopes in the area. The host took great care to ensure the place was ready for us. Much appreciated!

This 5 minute walk to notorious downtown Wakefield tourist home with a/c, BBQ and nearby private waterfront dock can be your riverside fantasy! The classic (1890’s built / restored) residence includes a dock with awesome view for relaxing / swimming (close spot to launch canoe, kayak, etc.), proximity to restaurants, shops, bars and everything else this charming village has to offer, and all the amenities for up to 6 guests including 50w Netflix sound (25% week, 33% month discount).
This funky home is rumored to have been built by and for the workers who put in the infrastructure for the train, which went into service in the early 1890s. It's been through many owners and tenants since, including a birdhouse-building chicken and duck fancier, and a life-loving gentleman whose husky may have been even more free-spirited and famous than his master.
It's a funky old home on a paved rural road in this friendly touristic small town neighborhood. There's vehicles, bikes and people going for walks (some with and without their dogs on leashes, plus the occasional free-range friendly village dog or cat). As the home with deck in front is close to the road, and a neighbor is just across the street, it's important that any guest dogs are well-behaved (the dock across and up the road is more private, however it's not far down the shoreline from where people during the day hangout, launch their canoes, etc., throw sticks for their dogs, and so on). On Sundays from approx. 10am to 2pm through the summer there is some noise from cyclists, as Ch. Riverside access is restricted for their use excepting local traffic, from the junction with Ch. Rockhurst near the home to where the road eventually meets Route 105 in Cascades approx. 10 km south.
  • Had a great weekend away from the city, at Ken's! The space was clean, had everything we needed (fully stocked kitchen with tools, utensils, coffee, tea) and the fire place was an incredible touch. Would definitely stay again

There are nice walks up Chip Lake Road. To go to the lake, walk from the house to Chip Lake rd, go left and it is about 4 minutes. There is a picnic area that can be used just to the right, but by continuing around the little bay, there is a rock where we swim from. Just a little further along the community lakefront, there is a canoe launching spot. There are canoes there, and they can be used for a little spin around the lake. Paddles are there, but no life jackets.

  • This was my third stay at the chalet, this time with some snow! Great winter views, cozy spots near the wood fireplace, along with some peace and quiet.

  • Amazing experience! The cottage and land was absolutely beautiful! Was the perfect distance from the city just about an hour from our home in Gatineau the area was quite and secluded and we had a chance to use the canoe and the lake was beautiful and scenic. 5 stars for sure and we already booked to come back again next month.

    Michelle2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Martine's place is absolutely beautiful. The location/view is spectacular. The home itself is very clean with a nice large common area. My family and I enjoyed our stay immensely.

    Emma2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our weekend. The tree top view from the windows was awesome. Martine was quick to answer any questions we had and even dropped of an iron for us so we weren't wrinkled at my niece's wedding. Thank you so much!

    Paula2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful chalet / cottage. Plus the fall colours made the drive in and view of the lake quite spectacular. Yes, I recommend this place, as long as you can handle a steep path from the cottage down to the lake.

  • This was our second stay at this cottage. Loved it! Great views, kitchen and access to the water. Will book again!

  • This is an amazing place to come for not only the beautiful view but the peace and quiet being surrounded by forest. David was an amazing host and always did everything he could to make our stay the best possible! Would definitely come again in the summer to really get to enjoy the deck and the views!

    Hussein2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The view is amazing! The loft is very big and beautifully decorated. David was very quick to respond to our questions and requests. We would definitely go back!

    Christine2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • David's place was the perfect stay for our visit to Wakefield. My wife and I were there for a wedding, and David's place was great in terms of location and amenities. David had great hospitality, he was always a step ahead of our requests which was greatly appreciated. The view from the loft was amazing, absolutely unparalleled in the autumn foliage changes. The bathroom was clean and large, great pressure in the shower and was fully stocked. The bed was a couch, but it pulled out and felt like a full on bed. We had no issues and was incredibly comfortable. I would highly recommend David's place to stay when visiting Wakefield.

    Rama2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • David's place is amazing. The view is exceptional from the balcony. Everything was clean. David gave us fresh coffee, along other breakfast essentials and his communication was top-notch. We really had a relaxing stay and highly recommend staying there!

  • My dog and I had a nice stay. The cottage, especially the yard, was a bit smaller than expected, but it did not really bother us. Unfortunately for us, as it was raining and warm, walking on the lake was not an option and the road was muddy. We still managed to find a trail nearby and were able to go on a small hike, which was nice. That being said, the place is very cute, clean and modern. It has everything you need, the bed is comfortable, and overall, we had a very good time.

Wakefield waterfront on the Gatineau river. Great views of and only a few steps from the iconic covered bridge and a short walk to restaurants, pubs and cafes. Two fireplaces, two decks, and plenty of parking. This is a brand new home that we are sure you will enjoy. Respectful, courteous guests only. The magnificent views from the home and the two large decks come with some effort and this vacation paradise is not recommended for those with mobility issues.

Relax into village life from the balcony overlooking the Gatineau River at this homey hideaway. Drive into the hills for a day of skiing, or cozy up in the forest-themed living room and fire up the barbecue for a leisurely dinner on the deck.
Wakefield is a vibrant village on the shores of the Gatineau River with an active art and music scene. It is home to the Blacksheep Inn, Canada's famous music venue. Wilderness is on the doorstep with trails leading into Gatineau Park.
  • Fantastic Airbnb experience! Steph communicated promptly and with all necessary details. The space was super bright and clean, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were comfy and the deep soaker tub and bath amenities were deluxe. It was a perfect spot for my son and I to relax for a couple of nights. Easy drive to Chelsea & the Nordik spa and walking distance to cute restaurants and shops in Wakefield. Off-street private parking. Steph even provided gluten free snacks to meet our dietary requirements. Very much appreciated this extra effort! Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Steph!

  • Carol has a beautiful, and quiet spot on the river. The apartment feels VERY private even though it's attached to the main house. We stayed with our 2 children(5 & 9), and didn't feel cramped. We really appreciated the chance to enjoy the hot tub and the extra towels that were provided! The radiant floor was also wonderful and made this a very cozy spot to return to after skiing and skating all day.

    Ty2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our weekend at Carol’s place. The location is perfect - 2 minute drive to all of the restaurants and shops in Wakefield and is right on the water. While the place is connected to Carol’s house, it felt very private. It’s very clean, the hot tub was awesome and the view is beautiful. I would highly recommend!

    Katie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great little weekend in Wakefield! It’s beautiful in the winter. Went ice skating at Patinage en Foret which isn’t too far away and was completely charmed. We also had a really nice walk (about 20 mins) in the snow from the air bnb into Wakefield itself for some dinner and drinks. Highly recommend! Gatineau park is right nearby for hikes and skiing as is Chelsea (another charming town). Definitely recommend!! We braved the hot tub in snow which was also fun! Thanks for a great stay :)

    Kirsten2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the space. Carol was quick to respond, provided all that we needed, and the place was clean and comfortable. Hot tub was fantastic under the stars and after our hike in Gatineau Park (very close to many trails) .

The studio is a lovely large bright loft with deck overlooking fields and garden. It has everything you need for a peaceful getaway. The kitchen is well stocked with basics, and includes fresh local eggs and bread. About 40 minutes from downtown Ottawa, we're 15 minutes from the vibrant village of Wakefield, QC., and the Gatineau Park and several ski hills.
The main room is spacious and bright, and in the summer the deck is a popular spot for relaxing. It has a full bathroom downstairs, and a kitchen equipped with stove, fridge, toaster oven, toaster, coffee pot. Anything you are missing you can ask for! It has closet space and comfy beds - a queen sofa bed, and a single in it's own cozy space.
This area provides the choice of solitude or activity. The studio is a wonderful retreat space, yet it's proximity to Wakefield means you can enjoy the busy life the riverside village offers: Theatre, the Wakefield Film Festival, the famous Black Sheep, the summer Saturday markets. In winter there's x-c skiing/showshoeing (snowshoes available to borrow) in the park (or bushwhacking locally), skating through the woods or skiing at one of the several ski hills, etc. Oh - and super restaurants from comfy/casual to formal and coffee shops aplenty.
  • Edie Jane was so helpful and accommodating for our last minute trip and was a great host! We had a wonderful stay at her beautiful studio. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting, and the little details really made our getaway memorable! Would highly recommend it.

  • Edie Jane's place is spectalcular. I can't say enough about it -- it's the best place we've ever rented on AirBnB. Edie Jane is an incredibly accommodating host. She went above and beyond -- she brought us fresh eggs and lovely bread and we were invited to take home handmade soap and the place was stocked with lots of things like oil and vinegar etc.. skiied straight from the door and explored for hours. The best part about it was the quiet. If you want a peaceful getaway, this is it. We will definitely be back.

    Nancy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was wonderful! We had a great time.

    Matthew2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and charming place, really quiet and cosy. Edie Jane was really easy to communicate with and gave us good advice.

  • Excellent welcome, warm stay. Thank you !!!!!

    Frédérick2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, generous and accommodating host. Edie Jane went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. The barn was incredible. Spacious, quiet and had every amenity and beyond with local eggs and bread. The horse and pony outside added such a nice touch. Can’t wait to come back!

    Alexa2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Super nice place, perfect for a quiet retreat. Surrounding landscapes are just splendid, particularly during the autumn colours period. Edie Jane is very available and welcoming, I would clearly recommend the place!

    Victor2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place to have a retreat! Cute, very clean, and equipped with all what's needed. Our 2-year-old son was very happy to walk on the land, to see the horses and the sheep down the road. We definitively recommend it!

Living in your own hillside park. Sunshine filled log chalet up in the Gatineau Hills. 10 min. away from Gatineau Park and 30 min. from Ottawa. Fresh air and plenty to do any-time of the year. 25 foot high cathedral ceiling it is spacious yet cozy. Plenty of deck space and a giant front-yard and backyard, 3 acres! Near Wakefield and the Northern edge of Gatineau Park there is plenty to do like hikes, biking, cross-country, skiing, horseback riding, bungee jumping, zip-lining, canoeing, etc....
The log house is located on 3 acres of land and surrounded by hills. The land in front of the house is mostly clear of trees to allow sunlight through the big windows into the main living room and dining areas all day from early morning until a little bit before sunset year-round. Hills and trees cover the rest of the view. Most of our neighbours are far from the house and most cannot even be seen. The kitchen, dinning area and living room area are in one spacious area roughly 30 feet by 30 feet. Two of the three bedrooms are upstairs. Wood is everywhere. A very natural wood feeling. Since houses are spaced far apart from each other, you really feel like you have your own space. The front of the house where the living room and dining area are faces South and is almost all windows so you almost feel there is nothing between you and the outdoors. The house has new (2017) King and Twin mattresses which have hardly been used. The living room area, dinning area and kitchen are in an open area and have a cathedral ceiling about 25 feet high. Since it is a log house, the scent of wood is always subtly present. The couches have been picked out for their comfort in particular. People often fall asleep on them as they are so comfortable and the house so peaceful.
The immediate neighbourhood is a residential rural area and very well kept. It used to be a ski resort about 40 years ago. Since then, trees have covered the ski trails and there is hardly any trace of it. The house is located on a flat area at what was the bottom of the hill. The great thing about the neighbourhood is that it is just out of the metropolitan area of Ottawa/Gatineau so it is close to the city but yet completely rural. The cute town of Wakefield is a ten minute drive away and so is Gatineau Park which has so much to do. Wakefield homes are close together because it is so popular but our neighbourhood is much less dense. The neighbourhood is surrounded by hills except to the South which allows so much sunlight. It is also at a higher elevation than Wakefield or Ottawa by 100 to 200 meters making for very pleasant temperatures in Summer. We are really way up in the hills. We are just a three minute drive to the best ski hill in the area which is Sommet Edelweiss. My family ski's there every Winter and it is a great ski resort. There is quite a lot of wild life here. There are about 10 wild turkeys that live nearby. Dears often pass through our property at night. Please, please note that the house is somewhat near a road. The road has some traffic though the majority of guests are not bothered by it. Most houses in the area are also near this road. Therefore, if you are looking for dead silence, please be aware of this. I do my absolute best to make sure everyone is very happy and when they review my chalet some guests occasionally give me a 4-star rating for "Location" due to this rather than 5-stars. Therefore, I want to make sure that only people who are fine with this select my chalet. I don't want anyone being in any way disappointed with their stay due to this.
  • Very pleasant chalet. Ideally located in the middle of nature while being close to Ottawa. Jean-Marc's instructions are clear and detailed, as are suggestions for a visit around. We especially appreciated the very comfortable King bed, and the large living room bathed in light with a view of nature and wild animals. Ideal with young children.

    François2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous setting, close to town with cool, eclectic eat spots, xc skiing, and alpine as well. Quiet, and lovely.

    Deb2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jean-Marc was a great host. Communication was excellent We loved that the Chalet was close to the main road and so easy to find. It was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed. Great access point to winter activities of all kinds.

    Nancy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house exceeded our expectations. The space was great for our group. We were 6 adults and the kids and the space accommodated all of our needs. Jean-Marc was always quick to answer and help. We arrived during a snow storm and the snow clearing of the driveway was always taken care of in a timely manner. Ample amenities, great location and the beds were super comfy!! Would absolutely recommend and hope to visit again the next time we’re back visiting our family

    Julia2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful property! Lots of space, a well stocked kitchen, great host. The only drawback was the fire pit and BBQ were inaccessible due to snow.

    Jennifer2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jean-Marc's place was incredible. Spacious, comfortable, and incredible views. We had everything we needed. The beds were super comfortable. It snowed almost the whole time we were there, and we would wake up to a plowed driveway. We had a lot of fun snowshoeing around the property, although we were in the area for work. Jean Marc was great to communicate with. Five stars for sure.

    Mary2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent our Christmas holiday here and absolutely loved everything about the place. It’s beautiful, peaceful, super clean, cosy and far more spacious than the photos suggest. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make a Christmas dinner with all the fixings! The sound system was great for listening to music and there is a large TV which was great for a few movie nights. The beds are super comfy and the tubs are great for a relaxing soak. Jean- Marc was also very friendly and easy to reach with any questions. The surrounding area is also very beautiful and peaceful and Wakefield is a lovely town! We definitely recommend staying here and we hope to return. 10/10!

Our loft is close to Mont-Cascades Ski/Waterpark/Golf, Wakefield, NCC and Gatineau Parks; 2 min walk to beach/lake. 30 minutes drive to Ottawa. You’ll love it, because of it's charm, the tranquility, the surrounding forest. The little ones will love the sandy beach. Our loft is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). The loft consists of one king size bed and one double sofa bed (a privacy screen is available to place between the bed and sofa bed).
The loft is over the garage and separate from the house with a private entrance. Kitchenette: Nespresso machine (I get you started with a few capsules), mini fridge, toaster oven, toaster, double-burner hot plate, microwave, cutlery, dishes ... Salt and pepper, foil, saran-wrap, instant coffee, coffee mate.
The Mont-Cascades Village is a small residential community located in the Gatineau hills. The trail to access the lake/beach is parallel to our property and the beach is about 150 meters away. It is very quiet and serene. Mont-Cascades ski hill/water park is 2 km away.

  • Halverson house is a wonderful place to stay. The fireplace and jacuzzi were very cozy in the winter, we also did some sledding. There was a nearby ice skating ribbon as well. The house has everything we could need and more, including a very well stocked kitchen, towels and robes for the spa, plenty of firewood, and some very delicious cinnamon buns. There were also boarg games, books, and movies for more of a quiet night in. The bed was very comfortable, and the house clean and beautiful. Darlene and Kevan were very accommodating, even when we were delayed by snow. We're already planning our next trip back!

This unique four season cottage is so close to the Gatineau River that you sometimes feel like you are on a house boat. The inside is bright, eclectic and cozy.
Wakefield is a 20 minute drive from Ottawa and has lots of charming restaurants, cafés and shops. There are lots of things to do all year round. In the winter you can enjoy downhill skiing (Volage, Edelweiss, Mont Cascades, Mont Ste-Marie), cross country skiing or snowshoeing and then come back and relax by the fire. In the summer, you can spend the day swimming, fishing or simply relaxing on the dock. There are also a number of hiking trails and golf course in the area. If you are feeling burnt out, why not treat yourself to a day at the Nordik Spa, which is a 10 minute drive from my house.

  • Peaceful, comfortable, private, quiet, great location - perfect Wakefield getaway. The conveniences and proximity of the village makes it easy to pack a few things and head up to Josephine's. Bring your bikes if you can, there are bike trails everywhere and lots to explore. Or stay put, read a book, gaze at the river. Especially grateful to be able to bring my well-behaved dogs who enjoyed hours of swimming and relaxing. Thanks Josephine! We'll be back!!!

  • This is an amazing place to stay! Bot too close to town where it's noisy but also not too far where you need to drive to go somewhere. A nice quiet place to enjoy!

  • Josephine's cottage was even better than in the photos -it is a wonderful location. Josephine is quick to respond and very helpful, the cottage is packed full of amenities i.e. coffee, condiments, cookware and dishes, books etc. It really felt like a home away from home, am planning to return in the summer!

  • I would definitely stay here again The peace and quiet I needed from this refuge was easily obtained and greatly appreciated. As I return to the bustling life of LA, I will fondly remember this soft interlude and begin preparing for my return Thank you Josrphine

  • The Chalet is really beautiful. We spend with our kids 2 days there. Everything we needed was to find at the chalet. A store to buy some food stuff and other things is just 1 minute away by car. It was great. Thanks!
