Places to stay in Hawaii
Our Tiny Tropical Treehouse is a very special space full of creativity and beauty. Custom built by an artist, this eco-house is flooded with natural sunlight, rich with wood accents, and inextricably connected to nature. It is ideal for couples and individuals looking for a private retreat nestled away in the jungle. Adventurers, relaxers, writers, and artists will enjoy staying here, a mere 18 mi from all Volcano National Park has to offer and 20 mi from downtown Hilo.
Tiny treehouse, swinging bridge, and zooming zipline... oh my! This rental is one of a kind. The house boasts an eco-friendly footprint to travelers, budding botanical garden, unique custom interior, and a getaway retreat from busy life. In 2016 Caroline and Melissa embarked upon building this off-grid house. With some serious planning, a hint of overconfidence, and a lot of support, we hit the ground running. At Home Depot we were serendipitously roped into an interview for HGTV's show "Tiny Paradise." The film crew showed up at our door a week later! From then the project took on a whole new energy. We embarked upon new murals, art projects, and all kinds of visual eye candy to make sure every corner of the house was the highest quality we could muster. We hope you enjoy the finished product and all the love and time that went into custom making every inch of this space! If you want to check out the episode we are episode #2 "Tiny Hawaiian Hideaway" in the HGTV series "Tiny Paradise." Below is a description of what you can expect when you visit: Follow the red cinder trail through the stunning botanical array that envelops our off-grid tiny house. Ascend 8 feet up into the air for the cool breeze and a better view of the surrounding flora and fauna. You've arrived! With a total of 13 windows and glass doors, you enter into the comfort and luxury of the home but your view extend hundreds of feet into the surrounding jungle of Ohia and Hapu'u. Once inside you will see dozens of wood accents, from our high-backed log chair, to our Koa Wood Balinese style couch. The loft is held up with posts made from Ohia trees sourced from our own property. We made the loft handrail, coffee table, and hand-towel hangers from trees that had to be cleared during the construction of our house. Enjoy lounging on the expansive Balinese couch while you bird watch, or kick your feet up onto the trunk as you become immersed in a good read. On your way to the kitchen meander past the stained glass window depicting a cardinal, we coincidentally have two males and one female on the property! Also keep an ear out for baby hawk in the early spring. You enter the kitchen and will be blown away by the design of the floating dish racks. The custom Chocolate Albezia wood slab counter top shimmers, as does the glass sink basin and hand blown pendant lights hanging overhead. Relax at the kitchen bar and sip on your morning coffee as you watch the sunrise strike leaves and dew, setting them off into stunning shades of green, red, orange, and yellow. Eat your lunch while pondering the tiny mushrooms and vibrant moss growing on a nearby tree. Drink a glass of wine while you stare at the milky way and the moon. Tucked away in a dark corner of the house is the lava themed bathroom. Enter the bathroom and feel the cool natural stone underneath your feet, be reminded of that lava tube you explored yesterday or will crawl around in today. The main volcanic mural, created with naturally smoothed lava rocks, will captivate your eyes as you shower. The fiery glass sink, with a rough field of lava swirling around it, is a focal point of the lava spilling into your lavatory experience. A local female artist made the themed art piece hanging on the wall; illustrating traditional canoes, hula, Pele (the volcano goddess) and ancient rituals. The sliding barn door and tinted openable window envelop you in the private surreal feel of the space. Enjoy! It's all yours! Before you head to bed you absolutely must make your way across the swinging bridge to arguably the best part of the house. The treehouse! Supported by two rows of sister trees, the deck is a magical place to lay down and look up at the sun shining through the leaves, get close to Lehua blossoms or a herd of blooming orchids, and watch the stars glittering through the branches. We enjoy eating every meal we can out there and doing work while lounging in the reclinable chair. If you're visiting with a romantic partner (eyebrow wiggle), there was a psychology study that found people misattribute the excitement of a swinging bridge to the attraction they feel for a potential love interest. So go on, get your partner on the bridge with you and spice things up. Get your heart beating faster... is it the bridge?... is it your partner? I guess we'll never know. When all the excitement has passed and you're all tuckered out, climb the space efficient right-left ladder staircase to the loft. Wiggle into the comfort and luxury of our memory foam mattress, feel it envelop your body, and then never get up ;). The loft is cozy, but it's a room with a view. Along the headboard a 10 inch window encourages you to stargaze from the comfort of your bed, at one of the clearest skies in the world! I personally love laying on my side staring out the openable window and looking at the silhouettes of the surrounding forest contrasted against the starry night sky. Under the warmth of the comforter enjoy the cool mountain breeze (1900 feet of elevation) as you drift off to sleep. What else can we say? This place is paradise and heaven on earth and our pride and joy. We hope you will love it as much as we do! ********************************************************** The "Eco" in our house: We hope you will love the artistic luxury of the space and re-define what is possible to create with reclaimed materials and an off-grid lifestyle. We built this house ourselves and one of our main goals was for guests to enjoy being off-grid and see first hand how lovely it can be to go green. We adore nature (if you couldn't tell ;) ) and so it was very important for us to have the smallest footprint possible throughout the building process, therefore we hunted, hunted and kept hunting! All 5 of the huge 4 ft x 6 ft windows connecting the interior space to the natural beauty found outside, were reclaimed. We scored on the 2 glass doors because Ace Hardware in Kea'au was de-installing them from their store front. We managed to give dying surfboards new life in our functional art piece on the treehouse deck. We collected lava rocks from local beaches to create the volcano mural that defines the bathroom and the red cinder trail was locally sourced from a volcanic red cinder cone. The entryway mosaic was made possible by broken tiles that were going to be thrown away at Floor Decor in Hilo. The hardwood floors came from my uncle's hardwood floor business after a sample batch for a hotel wasn't the exact color that the interior designers were going for (lucky us). Our water catchment tank and stove top are second-hand and we are utterly proud of it all! We hope you remember the beauty of this place & bit of land long after you are gone, to us, "eco" can also mean comfy!
We are situated in the Ohia jungle. Throughout a day only a handful of cars will drive by. (Once, we had lumber delivered in the middle of the road because we didn't have a driveway yet.) From the house only one house is visible in the back distance but you can occasionally hear our front neighbors. There are abandoned vehicles down the road but that's not uncommon in rural neighborhoods on the Big Island.
  • This place rocks! The pictures don't do it justice. Wait until you get there and settle in. I lost my GPS signal but once Melissa received my text, she called me and sent me everything I needed to guide me to where I needed to go. The way she has everything set up, plus the sounds of the jungle, just make the entire experience so calm and serene. I had a wonderful stay.

  • My boyfriend and I were blessed to find Melissa and Catherine’s amazing treehouse on Airbnb for our two week quarantine and we loved every minute of our full forest immersion. At sunset we would sit on the deck and slide down the zip line, the kitchen was fully equipped to create any meal you can think of and the outdoor shower was surrounded by beautiful orchids and lush greenery, we would definitely recommend this spot for a few days to feel the real Hawaii vibes.

    Alicia2020-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gorgeous home! Every little corner has a unique artistic touch that makes the whole experience enjoyable. The platform is great for stargazing and the zipline was the icing on the cake!

    Jasmine2020-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing space! Absolutely beautiful throughout, well thought out and beautifully landscaped. I recommend especially if you are looking for someplace unique and with tons of charm!

    Aleenah2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • If your having second thoughts... don’t! The treehouse is so stylish and fun! An architectural art installation in a lush island setting!

    Rich2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing secluded cabin tucked away in a beautiful rain forest. Perfect place for a romantic get away. We loved the zip-line! So much fun. While probably not absolutely necessary, having a 4WD helped getting there, as some of the puddles from all the recent rain could have given smaller cars trouble.

    Patrick2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolute MUST STAY!!!! It is off the beaten path and secluded in the best way. You are in the middle of the forest with incredible 360 views. We went to sleep with the sounds of nature. If we come back to the big island we will absolutely stay longer.

    Landry2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is quite the experience! You feel very isolated and organic in this charming, jungle-like setting. The bed is very comfortable, kitchen handy for a small stovetop meal, and the couch is a perfect place to curl up with a book. I was even able to flow through some yoga on the deck! Occasional noice from the neighbors may drift through the window, but it was not an issue for our stay. Would recommend!

  • This is simply the best secret on the island. It’s a magical, romantic fusion of indoor and outdoor space where jungle sounds and ocean waves give you space to contemplate life over champagne under the bamboo covered porch. It has bonus kitties, and little surprises everywhere. You’re lucky if you can find an open week here. They seriously don’t charge enough.

    Jonathan2020-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charming cottage that is in a great location with just a short walk to Manini beach! My wife and I enjoyed our stay. Ron and Karen are very careful to respect your privacy, but are around if you have questions or want a brief chat. They have many very good recommendations for things to do on the island that helped to make our stay special. There are numerous details in this cottage that have history and meaning. Ask Ron about some of the components, they come with a good story!

    Lonzo2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is so cute and charming to stay in. Karen and her husband were amazing hosts. As we got in, Karen showed us around to the beach and gave us insights of the area. Snorkeling at the beach was amazing. Lots of bright-colored fish by the reef. We had a very relaxing stay and enjoyed the decor of the cottage.

    Samantha2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, great cottage, great hosts. A real gem. Ideal for snorkelling, kayaking, enjoying the sea shore and beautiful sunsets. Encounter with dolphins almost guaranteed.

    Felix2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Bali Cottage is a rustic, comfy space and hosts Karen and Ron are exceptional. They will bend over backwards to make sure guests are comfortable; the location is awesome, shady, and a 5 minute walk to Manini Beach. Everything you need is available in the cottage: coolers, beach towels, boogie boards, and toiletries just in case you forget yours! Go to sleep with the gentle sound of the surf... and wake up with the sun shining in your outdoor shower!

    Robin2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here! It’s definitely more of a “glamping” vibe but so amazing! We loved waking up to the sounds of the ocean and wildlife. Very friendly hosts! The snorkel gear was awesome to have when we hiked to Captain Cook!

    Amanda2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • One of the most unique and memorable places I’ve ever stayed. Karen and Ron were very friendly hosts, who made sure we felt right at home.

    Bob2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough words to say how wonderful the Bali Cottage and Karen are. The space is AMAZING, the only negative thing I can think of is now all other Airbnb’s or even hotels or even my own home will all fall short of the magic that is the Bali Cottage. Karen is super communicative and welcoming and even walked me down to the beach when I got there, which btw is also amazing and charming. Literally could write a book on how much I loved my stay. Thank you again Karen for sharing your space with the world!

  • Keith and Ashley were super friendly and helpful. Keith told of us of the various “hidden” beauties to be explored. Waking up with the sound of the waterfalls and surrounded by flora and fauna was awesome. Peacocks, chickens , horses, geckos, oh my

    Jamie2020-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Ashley was an incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming host. The place is most well described as a “jungow bungalow” and is an incredible stay for true nature lovers, but it was immaculate when we got there. We cooked breakfast in the morning (groceries from the country store) and explored some of the most beautiful jungle among the fruit trees and private waterfalls on the property. Absolutely amazing. There’s feral chickens, peacocks, and three horses on the property, which we found fun but they definitely will invade your space if you let them. There are also tree frogs that sing at night and the most gorgeous stargazing you’ll ever see.

  • A peaceful, beautiful place! Amazing!

    M. J.2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time here even though it was a short stay. Keith and his daughter Ashley we’re both great hosts nice to talk to and helpful with everything. The view is amazing, the sound of the waterfall was soothing and it just felt great to be surrounded by nature and the horses and peacocks. We also explored the river with all its waterfalls. It’s so beautiful and just a short walk from the tent. Everything is a bit rustic, so you need to be comfortable with the outdoors. The outdoor shower was our favorite of the 6 we experienced on this trip. Surrounded by tropical plants, hot water and a great view. We look forward to coming back and staying for longer next time.

    Brian W.2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gorgeous location, the accommodations are simple & clean & we had everything we needed. It is the perfect place to enjoy fresh air and the countryside in HI. The horses, waterfalls, peacocks and chickens were beautiful. We loved it!

    Catherine2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Keith and his daughter, Ashley were very kind during our stay. The tour of their grounds/property was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay here amongst the jungle, horses and waterfalls + some chickens. You definately need 4x4 to get to the property. We had a Hyundai Elantra and there was no way we could have gotten in without causing damage to the car. Thankfully, Ashley picked us up at the local restaurant due to a flash flood at the streams surrounding their property. We truely appreciated the hospitality and kindness. Ashley was calm and relaxed which put us at ease when it came to the flash flood and getting into the property.

    Justyna2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Off-grid and off the beaten path. If these are things you like, you will love this place. Stars galore, frogs and the crash of a waterfall singing you to sleep every night, you really get to be a part of nature in Hawai'i . We had zero issues with bugs and the chickens were friendly neighbors!

The Puna district is a huge triangle area encompassing territory between Hilo, Volcano, Pahoa and Kalapana. Kilauea's latest eruption ended August 6, 2018. We are in UPPER PUNA and were not affected by lava. View new lava fields by air or by hiking to our newest black sand beach, Pohoiki. The area also contains the largest relatively untouched Ohia forests in the islands, currently being threatened by Rapid Ohia Death. We are located close enough to Hilo, Kea'au and Volcano Village for provisions and dining but still a world away from the fast track at the resorts. -Historical Hilo town offers museums, tours, local peeps, markets, craft fairs, Queen Liliokalani Park, zoo, arboritium, caves, gold course, art and local grinds/foods. -Locals Beach Parks: In Keaukaha=Onekahakaha, Carlsmith, Richardson, Lokoaka Wilderness, Leleiwi, Black Sands in Naalehu, Green Sands/Papakolea at South Point -Snorkel: Kepo'okalani, Kumukahi, Keaukaha area. -AND a long list of trails, hikes, botanical gardens, parks, waterfalls and of course, lava. The previous are East Hawaii accessible for one-day adventures returning leisurely to the comforts of Eco Hale. -North, South and West Hawaii areas offer adventures for deeper immersion with appropriate planning. -Reference books and maps are provided for your use.
  • Good location for the thrill-seeker looking to stay in the rainforest. Thoughtful touches, including the Japanese soaking tub which was delightful. When issues did come up, like the hot water heater and the electricity going on a brief hiatus, they were dealt with promptly. This is not a resort, it is definitely an off-grid jungle location! Full kitchen repertoire to cook up a meal. Space is cozy and for more than 2 people would not be ideal. They were very attentive to our needs. Very close to Volcanoes National park.

    Cooper2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eco Hale is a rainforest paradise a few miles off the beaten path of the big island of Hawaii. Prepare to be lulled to sleep at night by the sounds of birds and coqui frogs! The hosts are the best imaginable, the bathroom is spacious, and the bed is comfy and cozy. You'll enjoy the little treats that Kaeo and Karl make available to you, including macadamia nuts and lots of fruit juices. This is a wonderful place to relax and unwind from a full day of sightseeing.

    Cynthia2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Stay off grid in a tropical jungle 🌺 the hosts are super gracious, really kind and thoughtful and we really enjoyed our stay with them at the Eco Hale. The little bungalow is super private with lush landscaping - just a bit cold at the time of year we went (feb) but Kaeo leaves sooo many amenities to make sure you stay warm. The tropical noises at night mixed with rain was probably the most peaceful noise ever experienced. You are about 30 mins outside hilo, 45 outside the Volcano National Park and 2 hours away from Kona but in general the island is huge so you are going to drive a distance to get to any particular place. We enjoyed our stay and would def recommend for luxurious off grid experience.

    Kostadena2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • It’s all true. These folks go out of their way with special touches that most hosts skip. Do they have to supply a bottle of champagne for your anniversary? No, but they do! Does Keao have to bake you breakfast treats and give great local tips? No, but she does so with love. I could go on & on but let’s just say it’s a stay in a jungle paradise at your favorite auntie’s or cousin’s - everything is there for you, including total privacy. We loved it. And then, for their generosity and wisdom ❤️🤙🏻

    Nancy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay for all your travels on the Hilo side. Easy access to Volcanoes National Park and Hilo too. Small space but comfortable and well laid out in a beautiful garden setting.

    Steven2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We're generally not big on superlatives, but cannot write an honest review of Kaeo's and Karl's Eco Hale without employing a few. Picture yourself on the lanai in a romantic hut, in the heart of a garden-like rain forest, enjoying a breakfast of various fresh fruit (some of which you can pick within a few feet), homemade cranberry-walnut bread, freshly ground locally grown coffee, listening to the tropical birds (and, of course, the Coqui) with dappled sunshine lighting up the scene. It's difficult if not impossible to come up with a better start to a day. Now envision yourself on the same lanai as evening approaches, sipping wine and snacking on (or dining, we chose to bring dinner "home" most nights to have more time to soak up the peace), then filling the furo with warm water and climbing in for a soul soothing soak. From the warmest of welcomes by Kaeo, to the delicious pupu she provided our first evening, to her little touches in decorating both amazing and authentic, it is an extraordinary experience in a perfect location to explore the island. Kaeo is one of the sweetest and most thoughtful souls we have had the privilege to meet. We've already agreed that we'll return for a third visit with her and Eco Hale.

    Mark2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing space in the rain forest, surrounded by trees and flowers. The Eco Hale is well thought out, comfortable, and cozy. Kaeo thinks about every detail that you could imagine. We had three wonderful nights in Eco Hale, listening to rain falling and having dinner in the rain forest. Definitely the highlight of our trip!

    Shuyue2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place! We loved everything. Kaeo and Karl are the best hosts ever and very sweet.

The Phoenix House - an off-grid tiny-house gem - is situated on the Kalapana lava beds near the base of the Kilauea Volcano. Prepare to be blown-away! Besides being the sunniest, driest part of the island, you are surrounded by epic views of the volcano, and black lava fields as far as the eye can see. Yet it’s very close to festive farmers markets, black sandy beaches, and gorgeous coastal drives. Enjoy this elemental vortex unlike any other! ALOHA!
  • Really enjoyed my tranquil oasis on the lava field! Jade made sure I had everything I needed, and I appreciated how quiet everything was but not too far from Kalapana and Pahoa. I would gladly stay here again!

  • Duuuuuude!!! This place is so magical and rad! Loved being on the lava, plus it was raining and perfect for exploring the lava rock, listening to coqui frogs, and then hanging out on the couch. It was easy to find, the hosts were so detailed in their messages we didn’t have a single issue. We took their suggestion, and ate at Tinshack Bakery, and their breakfast was so good! Honestly, it was a magical experience. Grounding yourself in the rain on the lava field... and staying at a well thought out tiny house?! PERFECTIONNNN!! Huge Mahalo to our hosts.

  • Amazing location and a perfect house. This was my favorite place we stayed while in Hawaii! Definitely recommend to anyone!

  • If this tiny house calls to you, go! The stillness and strength provided by the lava fields is unique and powerful.

  • My mom and I had a wonderful stay at the Phoenix house. We witnessed the most beautiful rainbow on the lava field from the house! This house has a beautiful and unique character and I 100% recommend. One little thing was that the constructions around the house blocked the view to watch the sunrise but we still enjoyed our stay!

  • If you want to have an epic stay of beautiful views, amazing accommodations, and friendly people... look no farther. Stay here with Jade! Their recommendations were great. Communication was amazing. And it's such a fun idea to live "off the grid".

    Camilla2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed this place. It’s well away from anything and there’s not really anything to see walking, but it’s the nicest spot I’ve stayed. If you go, I’d drive all the way to Isaac Hale park. The drive is great%,

    Kirsten2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was an incredible experience! The design of the house is unique, in both interior and exterior. You can enjoy the lava landscape right from the inside. Besides, it is a good place for star gazing if there is no clouds. We took good pictures at night. Jade was so thoughtful and helpful as we were afraid of the guard dog, she really made us feel at home! Definitely will recommend this house to anyone!

Red cinder leads you through the dense jungle to your secluded bamboo treehouse. Nestled on top of stilts 15' up in the canopy of the local flora, ascend to your retreat via the trapdoor or begin your adventure in Volcano National Park 10 miles away.
Upon arrival, let the red cinder path be your yellow brick road as you are lead through the jungle to your personal paradise. At ground level you will encounter a hanging bed, suspended beneath the floor of your new living quarters. Stop and relax or continue up the staircase to the trapdoor. It is through this trapdoor that you are allowed access to the lanai amongst the canopy of trees. A beautiful wrap around lanai allows for a 360 degree view of the lush jungle, while two sliding glass doors grant access to the bedroom. Upon entering, you will notice that the generous windows and doors allow for natural sunlight to flood into the house, complementing the bamboo fixtures and vintage 1970s wallpaper that backs the bed. The white bed linens reflect the light giving a dreamy, cloud-like aura to the space. There is counter stocked with a local coffee and snacks nestled into a corner of the house and overlooked by the handcrafted porthole windows. Bamboo backed cubby holes and hangers furnish the wall behind you and create an elegant, minimalist closet space for you to store your personal items for the duration of your stay. Just past the closet is a sliding door that accesses one of the most fun areas of the house: the bathroom. The bathroom jalousie windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling and the horizontal glass plates open up, creating an indoor-outdoor effect. Naturally caught rainwater cascades from the large shower head above before disappearing into the floor boards below. You'll notice that the natural theme spills over into the bathroom with sustainable cork board backing the shower and air plants intermittently growing throughout. The toilet and hand-made rock sink in the corner make use of grey water eco-principles by allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water before it goes on to fill the bowl. One of the most fun aspects of this property is that it allows you the opportunity to experience true off-grid living without sacrificing any of the comforts of normal life. Natural lighting, solar power and rain water catchment are the three principles that have been integrated into this tree top design, making it almost like a living organism itself. The beauty of this high flying haven is in the details. I spent the better part of three months personally constructing the building as well as the accessories inside. My goal was to create a customized and secluded space for your occasion. The chandelier, hanging lights, port-hole windows, rock sink and platform bed were all DIY projects that I specifically created to enhance your experience. The bamboo pillars that 'support' the lanai and the moss carpet under the hanging bed were harvested from local areas on the Big Island. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION Don't worry, the capital letters are just to emphasize importance. I'm not mad at you. But please read this entire section before making a reservation. As lush and inviting as the Dreamy Tropical Treehouse is, there are inevitable 'challenges' that come with staying in an off-grid treehouse in the Hawaiian jungle. My goal is to give you an experience that combines adventure and luxury so I want to make sure that you are aware of the following things: 1. The treehouse is about 15-feet off the ground and is only accessible by the 'ladder-stairs'. 'Ladder-stairs' is just another way of saying 'very steep' stairs. There is a hand railing and none of my visitors have ever had a problem going up and down. There is a pulley system for hoisting up your bags. Only those who believe they are physically capable should book a stay. Just remember to go up and down the stairs facing them... like a ladder! 2. The running water comes from the rain falling on the roof and is not treated; therefore, the water is not potable. I will provide several bottles of drinking water. 3. The electricity you use is generated by sunlight and is stored in a battery. Once the battery runs out of power it has to recharge. This shouldn’t happen but just be mindful not to leave lights or power hungry items running for extended periods of time (No hairdryers). The windows allow for plenty of light during the day. 4. This is the rainy side of the Big Island so expect some showers! Realize that the pitter-patter on the roof is the rain's first stop on its journey to the water tanks and then to your shower. Also notice how warm it is. Don't think of rain as a trip ruiner but instead an asset to be enjoyed! 5. There are bugs but this isn't the Amazon. For such a tropical climate you will be surprised at how few bugs there are. The main things you will see are moths, fruit flies (due to fruit falling off of the trees) and mosquitoes. Bug repellent is provided but it never hurts to bring your own. They really don't get that bad but their presence increases after a hard rain and during the twilight hours. Luckily, the hanging bed has mosquito netting that drapes down to encompass it. 6. Noises. Living off-grid in the jungle also brings about its own set of noises. The water pump and solar inverter will make soft noises throughout the day as they are used. The falling fruit from the vivie trees can also be alarming if you don't know what it is, and at night you are going to be serenaded by the sweet chirping of coqui frogs. Rustling branches, grunts and squeals typically means that the cute family of wild pigs is nearby. They are harmless and will runoff as soon as they sense your presence. Quietly grab the binoculars and, if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of them! All of these aspects are what makes this place so unique and, with the right mindset, they’ll only enhance your overall experience. Guests have free range to fully utilize every aspect of the house. The hanging bed, wrap-around porch, indoor-outdoor shower and closet are at your full disposal. I have recently installed a kitchenette that has a sink, cooler for storing food/drinks, and a coffee maker (also capable of heating up water). Any and all goodies stocked in the house are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: •Indoor/Outdoor Shower •Toilet with Overlaid Sink •Organic Shampoo/Conditioner •Towels •Ample Parking •Tiki Torch ‘Flashlights’ •Hanging Bed •Table and Chairs for Lanai •Binoculars •Several Books •Outlets (3-prong and USB) •Kitchen Sink •Coffee Maker •Clean Linens •Gramophone Music Player for iPhones •Cooler for Food/Drink •Card Game Guest interaction can be tailored to your needs. My goal is to make sure your stay is unforgettable so you can always contact me via phone or email. Because I do not live on the island year round, a local neighbor can assist you if you have any problems that need tending to. Upon your arrival I can arrange to have someone greet you and show you the property or simply stow away the key for your convenience. The choice, of course, is yours. Even though I am not on site, I can always be reached. Feel free to call/text/email me at any time during your stay should the unlikely event that a problem arises. I will immediately contact the proper authority to have the problem remedied. The treehouse is located at the end of a neighborhood street making it very private. It is set about 50 yards off the street behind a windy, jungle path further adding to your privacy. There are only about five full time neighbors scattered throughout the neighborhood so don't expect to see a lot of people. The treehouse is about 20 miles from Hilo, 23 miles from Pahoa, 12 miles from Keaau and 8 miles from Volcano. Volcano is the closest place for laundry, good restaurants and groceries, though you will pay a little more for the groceries than in Hilo or Keaau. I recommend you stop on your way in from Hilo. When you book I will include a guidebook that has the locations, hours and prices of local restaurants and grocery stores. There is quick access to highway 11 and it is 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park. Numerous opportunities for sightseeing and adventures are within a 40 minute drive of this treehouse paradise and they will be included in my guest guidebook as well. This is the ultimate spot for couples seeking romantic seclusion in the middle of a tropical jungle or individuals who want to escape the world. Unless you feel like hitchhiking, you will definitely need a rental car with high ground clearance to comfortably explore the surrounding areas and access the treehouse. While nothing is 'far' on the big island, everything is just a bit out of reach by foot... except of course for those lovely, yet dense, jungle strolls.

  • Really incredible place to stay. Make sure to try at least one night.

  • The tree house was awesome! What a magical experience in nature in Hawaii! The tree house was just like the pictures, and the frogs outside were great to fall asleep to. I was a bit apprehensive of bugs, but the screens kept the bugs out just fine. The only reason I took a star off of this review was because the bed sheets and pillows smelled strongly of mildew. I understand that Hawaii is a moist climate so this may be unavoidable. If you are someone who has mold or mildew allergies, consider that before booking. Otherwise we had a great stay!

  • We had a wonderful time at Kristie's beautiful tree house. The house and the location are quite spectacular! Not only did we enjoy the beautiful house in the wilderness but we also truly enjoyed the little things like the apt books and games she had left for us. My wife really enjoyed showering with the view of the wilderness 🤭. Also, special mention for her hospitality and ease of check-in and out, everything was very smooth. Would definitely recommend this experience! Thanks Kriste! 😃

    Fern Forest, HI, United States

Our Retreat is a labor of our love and was built as such. A getaway to relax, hike the nearby beaches, forests, and volcanoes and to simply enjoy life. Our place is a peaceful spot completely off the grid in nature. It is 8 miles to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. You’ll love our place because of the location, the ambiance, and the outdoor space. Our goal was to bring the outdoors in and the indoors outside. Our place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
This beautiful peaceful gem is located 8 miles to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The house is secluded off the road for privacy and to be as close to nature as possible. The house is elevated 15 feet but the bed elevates you 20 feet off the ground. It is quite a unique experience. Arrival You first arrive at a gravel driveway and a wood chipped winding path. You pass beside and under the Hapu’u Fern Tree tops and orchids as well as the tree canopy. The trail to our house is about 120 feet deep in seclusion. There are little pockets of ferns and flowers along the trail as well as a Ganesh and a Buddha keeping a peaceful eye on our little sanctuary. Downstairs Lanai You will find yourself on the lower deck/lanai. This lanai is surrounded by hanging plants and places to relax in your own private Zen. There is an 8-foot teak Balinese Bale' daybed to lounge in and it can be a place to relax that is also functional. During our travels to Bali, Indonesia one of our favorite memories is laying in a daybed surrounded by plants and nature, complete Zen and that is what we have re-created in Hawaii. This daybed is a beautiful space to be next to nature and relax, read a book, take a nap and enjoy life. Remember it is vacation time! Looking across from the daybed is a handmade teak bistro set to sip some coffee or tea, read a book or play a game. There are two half tables where you can make a cup of coffee or tea or pick up a bottled water. Downstairs bathroom The center walkway has two barn doors with separate bathroom and shower areas. The shower is a large space with a ten-foot ceiling and large shower "rainwater" nozzle that mimics the soft falling of rain. The shower is powered by solar and on-demand propane for heat. There is a bench to sit and relax and soak in the moment. With the forest in mind, the shower room has bamboo walls and hanging plants to create unique ambiance. The mist from the shower help feed the plants/orchids. There is cruelty-free and nature-friendly shampoo, conditioner, and soap provided. Toiletries in case you forgot any are provided in the bathroom. Across from the shower is the bathroom with woven bamboo walls and a handmade Koa wood wash basin, flushing toilet, mirror, vanity and toiletries for the shower and bathroom are provided in the baskets. In the center walkway, there is another handmade Koa wood wash basin. Upstairs Lanai: You are now winding up the stairs and you arrive to the upstairs Lanai. Another place to breathe and relax. As you explore upstairs, the covered upper deck/lanai catches the rainwater to turn into reusable shower and toilet water. The covered lanai gives you the chance to sit out in the rain forest and watch the rainforest replenish itself. The animals and trees become animated at different times of the day. At night you can stargaze. The furniture is inviting you to “sit and take a load off." There you can breathe in the forest and enjoy the scenery and views of the Hapu’u Fern Tree tops. Towering above you, 40-60 feet in height, are Ohia, Koa, Guava and Eucalyptus trees which comprise the tree canopy. There are wicker chairs with overstuffed cushions and a cozy footrest for two. There are side tables for drinks and snacks and a small table you can play cards on. At night the Coqui Frogs will serenade you with their mating songs from the trees. Bedroom: As you pass through the keyless entry window door you will find another gem. There is an airy feel due to 12 foot ceilings and cathedral style windows in the trusses along with three 4x8 foot windows. Then you will see our little gem of a bed: we are very proud of our own designed “perch platform bed” that nestles you 4 feet in the air. You will feel like you are perched in a tree. The comfy mattress makes for a perfect and tranquil night sleep. The view from the bed is a panoramic view from the 8x4 foot front bay window and on clear nights you can gaze at the stars through the cathedral style windows in front and behind the bed. Now it is your choice to watch stars, birds or the clouds from the bed. There is a built in closet within and beneath the bed where you can put your suitcases or hang your clothes. This bed has it all and we made it to simplify and organize your luggage. No messes, all hidden and contained in the semi walk in closet. On the sides of the bed are two sets of stairs and each side has their own charging USB station for your phone or tablet. Birds, amphibians and animals: Animals you may see in the gardens or in the treehouse: Coqui Frogs, a variety of lizards, Geckos, Jackson’s Chameleons, Endangered Pueo owls have been spotted intermittently at our property. The endemic black-billed ‘apapane, salmon-billed i’iwi, the white and brown ‘elepaio, and the yellow-green colored ‘amakihi are some of the forest birds of Hawaii that can be found. Additionally, feral pigs occasionally scamper about the forest floor but do not like human interaction. Pests: Mosquitoes. This is the rainforest so mosquitoes are common. We provide DEET and non-DEET bug sprays or you can bring your own. We do ask that you do not spray yourself while on our furniture or linens. It stains and is almost impossible to get out of linens. Mosquitoes: we offer bug spray Here is a list of the amenities that are available to you: • Bale’ Daybed • Bistro set and Rattan seating • Platform bed and closet • Outdoor shower  • Flushing toilet with septic • Cruelty-Free Soap and Enviro-Friendly/Shampoo/Conditioner • Towels • Ceiling fan and light • Clean sheets • Bathroom and center sinks • Ice cooler for food and drinks • Mugs and cups for drinks • Maps and Hawaii destination books to use • Cards • Board Games • Books • Outlets (3-prong and USB styles) • Flashlights • Off-road parking • solar fairy lights • solar lights • local snack and water bottles • Bug spray and Citronella candles BEFORE YOU BOOK We wanted to be precise on any hindrances that you may experience we call it uniqueness but make sure you know what to expect before booking our space. We love our house and we are sure you will as well for a Zen –like peaceful experience. The house is off-grid and self sufficient but tradeoffs come with being unique and off-grid. 1. The Rainforest. The rain forest name says it all. How unique is it to be in the United States and in a Rain Forest close to a National Park? The green you will be surrounded by is powered and fed by the rain. It rains 30% of all days. The forest rejuvenates and replenishes with every rain. Our little house lives off the rain catchment therefore we enjoy the rain in all aspects: It gives life; it gives us water. You can experience anything from sun, to mist to torrential downpour. The volcano helps with this ecological system and therefore it is a unique experience to be had but rainforests are not for everyone. 2. The Treehouse, it is 15 feet off the ground. If afraid of heights this is a mild view but might not be right for you. There are only 2 levels of sturdy stairs to climb. No ladder like other places but if any problems walking back 200 feet to our structure or climbing 2 flights of stairs, you may want to reassess staying here. You will need to carry your luggage back and up the stairs. We have a wagon for use but you will still need to haul the luggage or items you are bringing to the house. 3. The Rain. The rainwater catchment system provides water for the water faucets, shower and toilet. It is filtered but not sanitized and in the jungle it is unwise and unsafe to drink the water. We provide water for you to enjoy during your stay. If you consume large amounts of water you might want to bring some with you as well. 4. The Noise. The rain catchment water pumps do make a small amount of noise but only when in use for showers, sinks, and flushing the toilet. The rain falling off the tree canopy does make noises when falling from 40-60 feet and hitting the structure and covered canopy. Additionally, there is a water trap for the structure on the back wall that does make a soft noise while gathering the water when the rain is falling moderately hard. At night, the Coqui’s chirping/singing can be loud. We love the serenade as it drifts us off to sleep but some are bothered by the frogs chirping. During the day and at dusk the native beautiful songbirds can be loud while gathering food and communicating with each other. There are also neighborhood dogs that can be heard barking intermittently in the distance. The last potential "noisy" concern may be the stillness of a forest or the absence of noise which can bother some people that are not use to “unplugging” from technology. 5. Solar Power. The solar panels are located on the roof and batteries are located downstairs. When the skies are clear and sunny the panels gather sunlight and convert into energy but when overcast or raining the solar panels gather small amounts of energy. We have ample amounts but still limited energy. You can run your devices but must be aware of energy conservation because there is only so much stored per day and it is all dependent on the weather conditions and what you are consuming. No hairdryers or irons are allowed for this reason: too much energy consumption. We have battery operated and solar lights throughout the structure as well. Phones and tablets can be charged at anytime with USB ports but laptops should be charged sparingly. 6. The Bugs. Mainly mosquitoes. They are not big but they are present in the rain forest. Hawaii does have mosquito borne illnesses, but mostly on the other side of the island in the Captain Cook area. Being in a rain forest you do need mosquito awareness. Wear mosquito repellant that we supply to you. If you are visiting Hawaii I would suggest buying your own bug spray and sunblock, you will need it throughout the island. With all these considerations…we absolutely love our house and find it to be tranquil while energizing us physically and mentally for the day. We love living in nature but being close to all things. 7. This treehouse has no cooking facilities. We encourage our guests to taste the different flavors that the island has to offer. • 8 miles (13 minutes) to Hawai’i Volcano National Park • 12.2 miles (18 minutes) to Keaau • 20.4 miles (33 minutes) to Hilo • 21.8 miles (35 minutes) to Rainbow Falls • 23.5 miles (35 minutes) to Pahoa • 34.8 miles (51 minutes) to the Lava Viewing area at Kalapana (no direct route) • 36 miles (58 minutes) to Akaka Falls • 45.3 miles (54 minutes) to Naalehu/South Point
The treehouse is on a quiet gravel road a little over a mile from the highway. The nearest neighbors are a few acres away in all directions. It is remote but close to all things. We have great neighbors but they love their privacy as we love ours. Orchid Isle Estates is surrounded by tree canopies and a myriad of orchids. There are some great restaurants in the town of Volcano as well as in Hilo, Kea'au and Pahoa. Please see our guide at the house for more details There is a little local store, Hirano's, close by for small items and a quick bite. There are two stores in Volcano, a big grocery store in Kea'au and more in Hilo. Farmers Markets are amazing here and no matter what the day you can probably find one open. I have a guide to farmers markets in my book in the treehouse. Our guide to the island sights is our personal opinion to find off the wall touristy and untouristy areas of interest. Beaches, farmers markets, waterfalls, hikes and lava tubes are all contained in the book at the treehouse. I also have printed out guides for you to take as well.
  • Amazing treehouse tucked in the rainforest and surrounded by nothing but nature itself. It’s situated in a pretty rainy area so be prepared for that but I very much so enjoyed the raindrops hitting the roof accompanied by the calls from coqui frogs to put me to bed. Really awesome place if you just want to have a quick retreat and have a little taste of what Hawai’i feels like with your loved ones. Just note that the shower is only cold water but it makes sense for the setting and the location and I didn’t mind it at all. Instructions to get to the spot are also very clear! Would definitely come back again!

  • An absolute MUST if you are staying somewhere as a couple on the Big Island! It was truly a magical experience, especially at night. The sights and sounds are indescribable and the treehouse itself is beautiful. Such peace and joy was felt during our stay and Britt and Michael were wonderful hosts!

  • I surprised my boyfriend for his 50th. We both fell in love with the treehouse. We felt like we were in an enchanted forest. The bed was super comfy and having coffee was a plus. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place :)

  • What an experience. Loved the little details about this place- the hot shower and variety of soaps was a treat. Tea at night and coffee in the morning made it very comfortable. I would recommend this to the adventurous types who are comfortable with the outdoors!

  • This place was the highlight of my trip. Very cute and full of nature. I wish there was more light in the bottom or at least wifi coz we had no network at all.

  • Amazing tree house experience. Loved listening to the rain all night. Short drive to Volcanoes National Park. We brought drinking water but it was not needed as Britt and Michael had already provided bottled water, as well as many other amenities to enjoy this beautiful tree house in the jungle.

  • This treehouse is the perfect getaway and such a cool place! Definitely the place to stay if you’re looking for a place that’s quiet, serene, and unique (being tucked away in the rainforest...very neat!). Brittany and Michael were great hosts that responded quickly and provided lots of helpful information prior to checking in. They have a book with recommendations and places to see or try that we found to be very helpful as we navigated the Big Island. We spent a lot of time out and about during the day and coming back here in the evening was so relaxing and peaceful. Highly recommend this place to anyone spending time on the island!

    Chelsea2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was such an incredible experience. Brit and Michael's place was honestly such an amazing experience! It's even more beautiful than the pictures. It truly exceeded our expectations. Wish we had booked more days here as we celebrated our honeymoon. It was so magical and so peaceful! As soon as we arrived, we noticed how clean it was and the bed was so comfortable! The road is really tight and had difficulty reversing. Other than that. Everything else was exceptional! HANDS DOWN THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN VOLCANO AREA!

While being a one-bedroom studio, the house feels very spacious and well organized. The main living space is about fourteen feet from the ground. Covered, comfortable, wide sets of stairs with railings will lead you to your beautiful suite. The high setting gives you picturesque treetop views of the gorgeous and rare undisturbed Hawaiian rainforest, with it’s numerous Ohia trees with red flowers, Hapu’u ferns, and many more tropical plants. Sometimes you get lucky enough to see some exotic birds and small reptiles such as geckos and chameleons. At night, you can gaze at the stars and listen to the coqui frogs sing. We used a lot of natural materials throughout the house and it gives it a very warm and inviting feeling. The house has wood floors in the entire space, a modern concrete countertop, a small kitchenette area, a specious bathroom with a very large standing shower and a real toilet. The kitchen does not allow you to cook food, but there is a sink, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker. On the lanai, you will have access to a small propane grill to bbq any local delicacies. The ceilings are about 14 feet high at the peak and half of the gable roof is transparent and gives a lot of natural light. Some of the highlights of the house include the comfy king size bed and the enormous window within the shower that pans from top to bottom on one of the sides which gives you the feel that you are actually showering outdoors! There is a small lanai on the west side of the house where you can relax and enjoy great views of the rainforest and garden. Furthermore, there is a huge net that overhangs the main entrance of the home, underneath the main living space. It is such a fun lounging area where you can just relax, nap, and enjoy the surrounding forest. There are many different plant species all over the property. Enjoy a quaint stroll through the garden in the back as well as up and down the path to the main gate. So many things to see everywhere you look! We do not offer wifi and we highly encourage our guests to immerse themselves into a full nature retreat and detach themselves momentarily from technology and their portable devices while at the tree house. :)
The Mokuna Treehouse is situated on a quiet street with little traffic, only 2 minutes away from the main road that loops the island. The house is located in the town of Volcano, which is close to three thousand feet in elevation, so it does get a bit colder up in this area (temperatures sometimes dropping to the low fifties at night). The southeast part of the Big Island does tend to get a decent amount of rainfall, so it is normal that you encounter some showers at some point throughout the day. Although Volcano is a small town, you have access to everything you may need within just a few miles from the house. Volcano Village is only five to ten minutes away and has a couple of general stores, a coin laundry, a hardware store, a gas station, and several great restaurants and cafés. There are also a few art galleries and even a winery. Every Sunday there is also a farmer’s market held in Volcano Village where you can buy all sorts of local produce and much more. Volcanoes National Park is also extremely close, where you have access to a discount price gas station, a restaurant, several unique hiking trails, a view of the active volcano, and even a bowling alley! The park is open 24hrs, so you may enter at any time. The best time to see the active volcano is definitely after dark on a clear night. The closest airport near Volcano is in Hilo, which is about 40 minutes away. Kona also has an airport on the other side of the island, but it is about two hours away. The nearest beaches are about a forty minutes drive from Volcano. A favorite is the Black Sand Beach on the south portion of the island. The southeast part of the Island has so much to see. Definitely have a rental vehicle available to catch a glimpse of all the gems this side has to offer!
  • This is a fantastic place to stay if you’re looking for a one of a kind experience! The Mokuna treehouse is off-grid though it has plenty of amenities to make it super enjoyable. Katya and Justin maintain this in pristine condition and there is something restful and rejuvenating for everyone. They have created a cozy place with everything you can imagine already taken care of from snacks, teas and coffee to toiletries to games to all the utensils you need for cooking out. A super comfy bed, plush terry robes and towels will have you feeling like you’re in a spa. Cook out, spend an afternoon reading and dreaming in the massive hammock, and enjoy the floor-to-ceiling private glass shower looking out on the rainforest. There are also plenty of fliers and pamphlets on all the nearby things to go see and enjoy. Put the Mokuna Treehouse on your bucket list!

  • Ekaterina's place is exactly as advertised...an Eco-friendly tree house in the Hawaiian rainforest. It's a great way to learn about being totally off the grid and how to use resources (water, electricity etc). Our favorite part was the sounds from the rainforest! I mean, it was pure magic- hearing the sounds of birds and frogs. What a lovely place to spend a night in such a beautiful part of the Big Island!

    Erin2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! So glad we stayed here. What a unique opportunity in today’s world to get away from technology and enjoy the beautiful sights/sounds of the jungle. This was a stay we’ll never forget. The space is even better than imagined as are the hosts. Also loved the opportunity to see what it’s like to live off grid. They’ve thought of everything; you’ll love this place!

    Brad2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really cool oasis in the rainforest near Volcanoes National Park. We only stayed for one night, but it was great. We loved being up above the tree line and looking out the giant window from bed into the forest. The shower is fantastic and the sound of the rain on the roof gave everything an extra cozy vibe. Really fun addition to our trip and all the AirBNBs that we stayed in.

  • Absolutely wonderful experience! The space is unique and the location is a great balance of secluded and near other human beings.

    Kat2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A fun experience. Everyone should do it Atleast one time in your life! Great host!

    Crystal2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We have a fantastic time staying at the Mokuea Tree House. It is definitely one of the more unique AirBnB experiences that we have had. It’s off the grid and located in a beautiful area on the Big Island. It’s really close to Volcanoes National Park so it made our visit to the park very easy. The Thai food truck down the road (Tuk Tuk) is amazing and definitely a must visit with limited food options nearby. During our stay, I unfortunately left my wedding band behind after checkout. The hosts were FANTASTIC in working with us to get me my ring back, I have nothing but good things to say about the Mokuna Tree House and cant wait to visit again sometime.

  • You cannot find a better stay with incredible host and incredible views! This part of our 2 week trip was the best! We had outstanding sunset views every night to where anywhere else you would pay heavy. This condo is perfectly described, it's cute and comfortable like home away from home with access to everything Kona. The beach is your backyard! Alice and Jerry could not be nicer and were such gracious host. During some crazy times of travel and many questions I had they were quick to always respond and helped me time after time to make sure my family and I were taken care of weren't without a place to stay while we waited for ever changing flight updates. Alice was ready to even bring any extra supplies we needed before we left. The condo was exactly like mentioned and matched the photos. We loved waking up and seeing dolphins and the amazing fish. Perfectly spaced for myself husband and 17year old daughter. We had everything in the condo from essentials to beach fun items so we were covered fully. I can't wait to start planning a return Hawaii trip and I can 100% say we will be reaching out to Alice and Jerry again for a second stay! No other rental place or owner will show you such care and thoughtfulness and take care of your condo needs then from Alice and Jerry's place.

  • It would be easier to say what I didn’t love about this place, which is nothing! It was truly amazing. The photos do not do the view justice. The beach is truly right downstairs with an amazing restaurant in the condo building right on the beach! The condo had everything we needed for a great stay. Lots of dishes and cookware and even beach supplies! The beach chairs were an amazing touch. Jerry and Alice were very responsive and always a joy to speak with. Their guest book had fantastic recommendations, we tried several including Magic Sands Beach Grill (numerous times if I’m being honest) and Jackie Reys (I think that is the name). Both were amazing.

    Taylor2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location was amazing. We woke to the sound of the waves every morning and watched the stars every night.

    Lilly2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful guest experience at Jerry and Alice's Kona Magic Sands place...we did not want our stay to end! Everything you need for a wonderful vacation is included - from a comfortable bed, all kitchen utensils and appliances, very nice linens and towels and anything you would need for a day at the beach. It is hard to describe the views and sounds of the ocean...there were days we just opened the lanai and spent most of the day enjoying the scenery (and serenity). And after a day of touring, it was so nice to come back and just enjoy the ocean, pool and making dinner in their well-equipped kitchen. We would actually look forward to returning each afternoon/evening to enjoy their place and the atmosphere. Jerry and Alice are such sincere and caring hosts... they truly want guests to enjoy their experience. There were tropical fresh flowers waiting for us as well as bananas from their own tree! We were sad when our stay ended and hope to be guests again! A wonderful, fabulous experience! Mahalo Jerry and Alice for sharing your paradise with us!

    Shannon2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing views and place. We saw whales, dolphins, fish, and turtles all from our condo! Jerry and Alice were some of the nicest people Ive ever met, very accomodating and definitely went above and beyond. We are definitely hoping to come back and stay here again.

    Kelsey2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was very relaxing to hear the constant splashing of the waves, which sent us to sleep immediately! The Magic Sands restaurant was excellent, convenient and fun. Great to have an allocated parking space.

    Sharon2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jerry & Alice are the kind of hosts that you remember for years, their kindness and warm communication, they feel like friends rather than hosts. We will never forget the roar of the waves, the breath taking sunsets and the whales and dolphins daily transiting out front. 🐳🌊 🌅

    Darrell2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Jerry and Alice's condo. The views were magnificent - a perfect place to take in an ocean sunset. Was nice to be able to lie in bed and hear the sound of the waves. The location was great too, right next to a nice beach and an easy drive to any other Kona destination. Jerry and Alice were great hosts and provided all the info we needed for our trip along with plenty of suggestions for places to eat and things to do. We would love to stay at their place again.

  • Thomas and Anthony’s place is perfect. Great location to the beach and they had 2 boogie boards and beach chairs for us to borrow. The space was great. They were so accommodating and provided enough towels for the beach and for the multiple showers we needed after the beach. Great spot in Kihei if you’re looking for relaxing stay.

  • The hosts were extremely responsive and provided us with the perfect location for our stay in Maui. The condo is in the heart of Kihei and is close to everything. New finishes in the kitchen, great view front the balcony. Would definitely stay again!

    Gerich2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here after 3 days of camping and it was exactly what we needed! We didn't use the kitchen but it is well stocked with items and had lots of beach necessities like chairs, towels, cooler, bodyboards, etc. The space is clean and close to restaurant area. We liked morning walks on the beach to get acai bowls, and eating them while people watching. The area is mostly resorters and skew more retirees and family w/ kids.

But since there is a sofabed in the living room that folds out in to a size full bed, that can accommodate a third person. PARKING FREE ON STREET Parking on the residential street directly fronting the apartment building is free, as the parking spots in rear of the building are reserved for other purposes.
This charming condominium building on Ili'ili Road in Kihei is perfectly situated on the ocean side of South Kihei Road nestled on a quiet street in an ideal location between two scenic sandy beaches in either direction: Charley Young Beach on the south side, and Cove Beach on the north side. The walk in either direction to each public beach access is half of a block and there is no need to cross busy South Kihei Road when walking to them. Connecting these two beaches on the ocean side is a lovely green lawn elevated over the water providing a perfect setting for watching nightly sunsets. Cove Park is the premiere spot in Kihei for surfing and stand-up paddling, and the entry area for this calm ocean inlet is also located a half block away at the north end of the street. The neighborhood street Iliili Road is only about two blocks long and contains only homes and vacation rentals, no large resorts, so it is relatively quiet yet well located for enjoying easy access to a large variety of fantastic activities, restaurants and shops all nearby within walking distance. Another block away is the large oceanside Kalama Park, which is the site of annual festivals including both Whale Day in February and Earth day in April. Kalama Park has jogging and bicycling trails, volleyball courts, tennis courts, covered gazebos, jungle gym playground, basketball courts, baseball fields, and even a skating rink and skateboarding park. Grocery stores within walking distance include Foodland four blocks away, plus there is an open air fresh fruit and vegetable market about six blocks away, and the convenience store ABC three blocks away. Additional beaches and resorts in Wailea or Makena, and shopping at high-end The Shops of Wailea, are just minutes driving distance away.

  • Good location with relatively easy to find street parking. The space had a huge comfy bed and a large kitchen and living room area. It had a large shower with two heads, which was fun. A great stay, thank you.

  • Thomas’s place was a great stay. It is in a good location, private but close enough to nearly anything you may want. Interior of unit was immaculate and small touches made the stay memorable. The unit is not direct waterfront but there is an amazing spot to see turtles and read privately, right on the ocean, just steps from the property. Would certainly recommend if needing a nice, quiet and comfortable place to stay in the future.

  • Great location, view. It was a perfect owner with quick response. I would like to take care again if the corona disturbance subsides.

  • Anyway, the scenery is the best! Ocean view that spreads when you enter the room! And the location is also excellent! Waikiki beach soon! You can surf right away, and there is plenty of shopping around, so there is no inconvenience! I really wanted to repeat this if I went to Hawaii again! There is no doubt that it is a hotel that you want to boast to your friends a lot! !

    Shinsaku2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I decided the room by looking at the image, but when I actually went, it was more impressive than the picture. The view is the best in a very good room. It was the best room in Air bnb where I stayed. When I contacted me when I was in trouble, I was able to reply immediately and live a normal life without any inconvenience. If you have a chance to go with your family, we will use it.

  • The best room in the location Large cleanliness without problems

    Takahiro2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was a stay of 9 parents and children (14 to 73 years old). I borrowed one airbed so I could sleep well. Above all, the location was excellent, the main places of Waikiki were within walking distance, the trolley, the bus stop of TheBus and the station of biki were very convenient nearby. There was a washing machine and a dryer, and it was very helpful that I was able to wash every day. I can't deny the age of the building itself, but the interior was very stylish as shown in the photo. It was a high floor, but the elevator could be used without waiting too much. It was a very fulfilling and comfortable trip. Thank you very much.

    Mayumi2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was a very nice location! I was grateful for being cared about in various places. It was also a place where I would definitely want to stay if I had the opportunity.

    Rie2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is the place to stay, especially if you have a large group. Beautiful large, clean and comfortable condo, what you see in the photos, is 100% what you get. Masa is an amazing host nothing was ever a problem, very happy to answer any questions that I had, and replied very promptly.

    Lisa2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • I had stayed in the other rooms of Royal Kuhio several times, but it was the most nice and comfortable room ever. There was a small child, so there were toys such as LEGO and good sea play, so it was very helpful to think that I bought it every time and brought it back to Japan every time. I want to stay again! It was a room that I really thought.

Aloha and Mahalo for visiting my listing. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC I DON'T ACCEPT ANY RESERVATION UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! "Pl.note that I don't have included the Transient /Ge tax ( 14.50%) in my price since it would reflect in the fee you pay to airbnb. I will collect it upon arrival." This place is nesteld on the slope of Hualalei mountain inmidst of coffee farms, from this cooler elevation (1200ft.) it is only 15 min./7 miles to Kailua -Kona, the nearest Beaches and Supermarket.
This downstair apartment is fully private with private entrance, bedroom has a queen bed, bathroom with bathtub/shower, walk-in closet. Lanai ( Porch) with view. Kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, toaster oven, electric skillet and electric pot, toaster, coffee maker, electric water kettle, rice cocker and a blender. Linen, towels and beach towels are provided. Free wireless internet, use of BBQ, car port. At 1200 elevation it is nice to come home from a day of activities at the beach to a cooler climate and quiet neighborhood to relax and watch the sunset from the lanai with view.
It is located in the midst of the famous Kona Coffee region, just 1 min. north from old charming Holualoa town with many Art Gallerys, a grocerie store, post office, coffee shop, and a wonderful outdoor restaurante (slow food). In just 12 min. ( or 7miles) you are in Kailua Kona town or at the nearest beaches.
  • The apartment is perfect! It is very well equipped, clean and offers a very nice view to watch sunsets. We enjoyed the stay very much and can just recommend it!

    Melina2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • A quiet space a little away from Holualoa Town, a large site with lots of fruit trees and trees. There is a two-story house in that space. The second floor is the host house and the first floor is the guest house. There are many similar homes around the property, in a quiet, relaxed and lovely area away from the hustle and bustle. Located at the foot of Mount Faralai and away from the sea, it is not too hot and cool. It's a bit cool in the morning and evening, so it's a good idea to have long sleeves. Rooms are clean and well cleaned. Cooking utensils are available, and there are rice cookers, microwave ovens, ovens, electric pots, hot plates, toasters, coffee makers, etc., so you can cook yourself without any problems. Since there is also a coffee mill, you can grind the purchased Kona coffee beans and drink it immediately. There is also a cartridge type water purifier, so there is no need to buy water. In addition, there are a lot of beach gear, and beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler boxes, snorkels, cool bottles, etc. were handy. The view from Lanai is a lot of trees underneath, the town of Kailua-Kona and the vast sea far away. Every day I spent watching beautiful sunsets. The lanai is large, so you can eat at the table or relax on the sofa. Rent-a-car is essential, but it is about 15 to 20 minutes drive to Kailua Kona, Keauhou shopping center and beach. Every day I went to KTA, Safeway, Target, Walmart and Kahaluu Beach. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the host lived on the second floor, so there was no need to receive or hand over the keys, just putting the keys on the table. The host woman is very kind and will answer me politely if I have anything, and I'm on the second floor so I can go to listen immediately. It keeps your private well, so you will rarely meet and help you only when you need it. I think it is the best location to spend your time on the Big Island slowly and comfortably, but I think it is a good distance for those who are actively moving to Hilo, Volcano, Mauna Kea, North Kona and many beaches, I went many times during my stay. Especially in the middle of the Kona coffee cultivation area, you can easily go around the coffee plantation everywhere. I stayed for about 3 weeks, but anyway, I found the location, environment, room and host to be satisfactory.

  • Karoline and her dog Hano are lovely hosts and her place was just perfect for our stay on the big island! Karoline has a beautiful house and guest apartment. Everything was sparkling clean and decorated in a cozy hawaiian style. We cooked a lot and were genuinely surprised by how good the kitchen devices (mixer, pans etc.) are! The whole apartment is very well thought through and Karoline goes above and beyond to ensure that her guests enjoy their stay. She even provided us with fresh fruits from her own garden! She also makes her own soapes and pays special attention to the environment and holding a sustainable houshold. Hano is the cutest, a very friendly, goofy and even a little shy doggo that one cannot help but love. We also loved the view from the apartment. One can see the ocean and watch the most amazing sunsets whilest sipping on a cold Big Wave or Longboard. So, if you get the chance stay here and enjoy this beautiful island from the very best airbnb.

  • Spectacularly natural, lush surroundings.. beautiful garden, flowers fruit and coffee. A delightful place to stay where everything is thoughtfully provided for you.

    Mark2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karoline’s place was warm and cozy as described. It has a neat view of the ocean, and the property itself is surrounded by lush trees. The house was stocked with amazing coffee beans, which my husband really enjoyed having. Karoline’s dog, Hano, was a cool hang out in the mornings. The place is conveniently located to Kona and other beaches (about 15-20mins drive). Highly recommend it.

    Rasika2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Karolines house is very charming and well kept in every detail, and with a beautiful view over the garden and to the ocean. Peaceful area and close to a nice little village.

    Grete2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you are going to the big island, want a spectacular view, comfortable stay, and a wonderful host than we recommend this cozy magnificent spot overlooking Kona. We will never forget our trip and appreciated every second of our time here. Thank you Karoline 🌺

THE POOLHOUSE!! Have your very own private resort just 6 miles from the beautiful Kohala Coast -- where all the islands's best beaches can be found (all just a short drive away). The Poolhouse comes with your very own salt water pool with waterfall & outdoor BBQ & King bed. Guests have access to complimentary & guest-minded Big Island Vacation Services. Owners live onsite on one of the 3 lots that comprise the Poolhouse grounds & can be of help when needed. Beach items are complimentary.
THE POOLHOUSE!!! Have your very own private resort. Just 6 miles from the beautiful beaches of the Kohala Coast. A-Bay, Waialea Bay, and Hapuna Beach are all just a short drive from your "resort." The Poolhouse comes with a salt water pool with waterfall. The house itself comes complete with everything you need for a private, romantic get away. A fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, frig, microwave and dishwasher. A commercial gas grill is right outside if you feel like cooking and dining next to the pool. Also the Poolhouse has a California king size bed (fold out sofa bed, too), a living area with 55" flat screen (with a "zillion" music choices via Spectrum cable), and high speed WiFi with new routers/WiFi enhancers installed in 2019. Start your day with a early swim in the refreshing salt water (better for your skin) followed by breakfast (provided by guest) next to the pool. Then when you return from a day of adventure or relaxing at the beach (or a round of golf at nearby Robert Trent Jones II designed Waikoloa golf course--just two miles away), have a rest in the outdoor hammock while grilling your dinner on the gas grill as the waterfall gently splashes nearby and completes your perfect day. The Poolhouse was completely renovated in 2013 with a brand new kitchen and bathroom. New flooring installed in June 2019. Our Poolhouse, pool area and grounds are completely smoke-free and drug free. Thank you in advance for your compliance! AIR CONDITIONING, starting May 2019, A/C is now available at an additional $25/day. Still, most folks who sightsee and head to the beach during daytime hours, feel the fans are adequate. But not all. So because we want to make the poolhouse affordable and comfortable, we now offer A/C ala carte. We understand that every guest travels differently, and many will not want or need A/C since, as forementioned, they plan to be out touring most of the day (why pay for something you're not using?!). The hottest time of day at the poolhouse is from 2-6pm. The mornings and evenings are usually quite pleasant, especially with our gentle trade winds. If your plan on using A/C or you think you'd lean that way, please reach out to Bob and Leesa prior to your arrival. However, if you decide during your stay, you would like the comfort of A/C, they will be happy to assist in making sure that happens. Please note that electricity is not cheap in Hawaii, and to keep Poolhouse costs affordable for future guests, we ask that when the A/C is being used, it is when guests are in the Poolhouse. Please don't run A/C while you are not there. GOLF: Nestled in the foothills of Mauna Kea overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Waikoloa Village Golf Course is truly one of Hawaii's most beautiful courses. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is only a five minute drive from the Poolhouse. Beach Equipment: At the Poolhouse we have a lot of beach equipment available to you at no additional cost. Beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, and boogie boards, etc.. Restaurants: Five minutes away you will find a few local restaurants. Pueo's Italian, Lava Java (a great coffee shop), Los Tres Mex takeout and a local Thai takeout. 15-25 minutes away is LAVA LAVA BEACH CLUB (our favorite), Sensei, Macaroni Grill, Under the Bodhi Tree, Blue Dragon, and Seafood Bar, Monstera, and Tommy Bahamas. About 30 minutes away is a local brewery BIG ISLAND BREWHAUS, PAU PIZZERIA, RED WATER CAFE. Beaches: Best and closest beaches to the POOLHOUSE (15-20 minute drive) Anaehoomalu Bay, Mauna Kea Beach, Hapuna Beach, Beach 69! Best beaches on the whole island! We have a fabulous book that we leave with suggestions on where to go, what to see, and where to eat and we are more than happy to give you more suggestions if you desire. Bob & Leesa (and Kelsey) live on the property, too, in a home on one of the three lots that make up the Poolhouse grounds and are available for emergencies or simply answering questions.
The neighborhood is a residential area 15 minutes away from some of the most spectacular beaches on the Big Island. We are about a 30 minute drive from the Kona International Airport.
  • Wonderful stay! Feels like an oasis away from the world, yet highly convenient to anything you might need. I recommend without hesitation.

  • We had a wonderful stay in the Poolhouse. This is the perfect location to be close to beaches, restaurants, and shopping, but at the same time have your own quiet and private oasis. We loved having coffee under the gazebo on the pool deck in the morning, watching the sunrise and listening to the birds, surrounded by flowers. The house had all the needed amenities, with a comfortable bed and a peaceful, clean and inviting environment. Bob and Leesa are wonderful hosts, very responsive. Thank you for a great stay!

Nature Lovers! Wake up eye-level with the canopy in a lofted bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and bohemian furnishings. Nestled among mango trees and rich with daylight, this tropical hideaway offers an unmatched open-air environment with eclectic adornment. Take a 30-foot stroll down a secluded path to your open-air bath house surrounded by plumerias and lush foliage. Enjoy an immersive experience with nature (birds, bees, insects, geckos and whatever nature has in mind). Glamping +++ in the Heart of Kealakekua Bay, featuring the best snorkeling on the Island and wild dolphins.
This eco-hale was built to express the simple beauty of outdoor-inspired living in Hawaii. The climate is comfortable year-round, as we are at 400 ft above sea level. Built in an open-air style with native Ohia posts, you will feel the expansiveness of being in nature, combined with the comforts of home. The open-air spaces have ceiling fans and the 2 bedrooms are totally screened in and give one a "tree house" feel. The hale is decorated in a Bohemian, Balinese influenced style... with natural materials. The hale has a bath house that is 30 feet away on a private footpath featuring an outside shower surrounded by a grove of plumerias, ginger, bananas, ti and other tropical foliage. The Master Bedroom is on the second floor and feels like you're living in the "Golden Glow" Mango trees. It has a King Bed, a Balinese writer's desk, dresser and plenty of room to stretch or do a yoga practiced. One "wall" is floor-to-ceiling screened in window which gives guests an expansive feeling, united with the beauty of Nature. The room is decorated in a modern, bohemian style ~ tasteful, relaxed and comfortable. All bedding is 100% cotton and crisp white. The entire master suite is screened in. The downstairs bedroom is completely screened in and has a queen bed and garden view. It feels more like a tucked away, nest. It is cozy and decorated in a modern, tropical~balinese style with 100% cotton, crisp white linens. The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need for basic meal preparation. The entire living area is an open-air concept with an open-floor plan. The kitchen has a 2-person bar area and there's a casual dining table for 4. The living area has a couch day-bed, a comfortable reading chair and an awesome hammock. There are award-winning Haiku ceiling fans in the open-air areas, which are more to help with mosquitos. The decor is a Bohemian, Balinese style in neutral colors. None of the living spaces are screened in. The bathroom is an out-house, located 30 feet away down a secluded foot path. It has no electricity. It has a standard toilet, sink and wonderful outdoor shower with hot water and strong water pressure. Check-out the pictures. It is private to your rental, however once in awhile (~1x/week) from 10am - 3pm, an onsite massage client will use the bathroom as the bath house is adjacent to my massage hale. The massage hale which is down the same path as the bath house is available for massages (from The Tao Within Massage) or you may use it in the mornings and evenings for yoga, trading massages, meditation or relaxation. It has an AMAZING audio engine sound system, and really magical lighting. It is available for your use before 9am and after 4pm. Depending on the day and time of year, the farm can have bugs, mosquitos, geckos, spiders, ants, etc. There are also wild chickens roaming the farm and sometimes they even come and lay an egg in the kitchen (the irony!!). Are you ok with that? We just want to ensure that you're happy ~ this is a tropical, mostly outdoor experience. If you want an indoor experience, this is not for you :-) We are 100% committed to ensuring that our rental is clean and that we have no infestations. We have a pest company that sprays the perimeter of the building on a routine maintenance schedule. But, we cannot control mama nature.
We are 1 mile from spectacular Kealakekua Bay, home to spinner dolphins, incredible turquoise waters and world-class snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking. Nature based living! Think possible mosquitoes, geckos, wild chickens/roosters, coqui frogs, birds, bees, insects, mongoose.. We are viligant about routine pest management, but to enjoy this experience, you need to be at one with nature. We are a HOSTED rental, which is leagally required for agriculurally zoned rentals like ours.
  • Amazing spot. Highly recommend the mango farm. We’ll be back!

    Felicity & Michael2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is truly one of a kind and one that is 100% worth checking out. My friends and I only had time to stay for one night, but had so much fun and felt so free the whole time.

    William2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly, this would be my dream house if I could choose! You feel completely connected to nature as the kitchen and living area is outside but protected from rain. The upstairs bedroom has a view to the stars at night and I could feel the breeze at times come through the screen. It was incredibly peaceful and Heather could not have been more accommodating. I hope to be back sooner than later.

    Lauren2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Mango Farm was a fantastic escape and opportunity to relax and enjoy living amongst nature. The space was comfortable and just what we were looking for in an adventure in Hawaii. We'll definitely come back again when we visit the big island.

    Paul2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little slice of heaven! A wonderful place to stay to relax and commune with nature and Hawaii. Close to amazing snorkeling (Two-Step and Captain Cook) and other places to explore. The hosts Lucia and Jesse were sweet and gracious, and gave my husband and children an informative tour of the Mango Farm. We would love to stay with them upon our return. One thing to note: the entire structure is open to the elements, albeit screened in. The Coqui frogs are loud at night, and if you are not used to sleeping with the windows open, the sound can make sleep challenging at first. I used ear plugs and a lite white noise machine under my pillow and eventually fell asleep. My husband and children did not use ear plugs and were fine. But just know this and plan accordingly.

    Sara2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place! Would definitely come back here to spend a longer time!

    Shweta2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • PLEASE READ. BOOK THIS PLACE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK IT IS HEAVEN. There were fresh fruit all around, the bed upstairs is a DREAM. softest linens most comfortable pillows, I wish we had stayed longer and ended the trip here instead of heading back to HNL. The hosts and everyone you interact with are passionate welcoming wonderful hosts. I feel so lucky to have found this slice of heaven. I can get scared but the salamanders toads and roaming hens had me laughing and in the best mood. BOOK IT. heads up you will need to go to choice Mart for some bug spray the mosquitoes loved us BUT the place is just so relaxing you don't even feel the need to scratch.

    Marie-Leigh2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Magical. The host helped us find a place for take out for dinner which was fantastic. When we got back to the Mango Farm it was getting dark and pouring rain. We were trapped in a blissful covered outdoor space with comfy sofa and blankets listening to the rain and then frogs. Extra touches like fresh fruit on the table were nice and you could pick apple bananas from the living room area! Glamping to the max!

Cabin has hard wood floors and built in sky lights to allow lots of natural light in during the day. Compost toilet which we use to make soil to replant palm trees and native Hawaiian species on the scorched lava earth. Cabin also has an open air propane heated hot shower! Perfect for couples or small families. Enjoy the best sunrises and sunsets in the world all from the raised viewing lanai/yoga deck out back. The property is covered in papaya trees, banana trees & pineapples. It also has a cherry tree, mango, avacado, dragon fruit, lime, coconut and several variations of palms. There's also numerous Ti trees which in Hawaiian culture are used to line the borders of your property to ward off evil spirits. Cook pine trees, bamboo, autograph tree, beautiful and bright coleus bush's, orchids, plumeria and bougainvillea. There's also hundreds of different small succulents that line the paths in the back of the property. Look closely to find these exotic gems that thrive in the lava and abundance of sun that Kalapana is blessed with. Make sure to stay on the paths so you don't crush any of these lovely small plants. I love the blank canvas the land provides and I'm excited to watch my garden and beautiful plants grow! You'll be surrounded by the energy of an active volcano and the deep blues of the Pacific ocean this is truly a once in a life time opportunity! Seize it!
Kalapana gardens is a great mix of eccentric locals, homesteaders, transplants and vacation rentals. The pace is slow and the aloha is abundant. It's also one of the driest places on the east side of Hawaii. Other things to see and do around the area are New Kaimu black sand beach, Kahena black sand beach, the Puna coastal trail to Ha'ena (shipmans beach), hike or drive from McKenzie park to pohoiki surf spot with its newly formed crescent black sand beach and thermal heated healing ponds, Wednesday night market at Uncle Roberts, Sunday is the Makuu farmers market. You can get food and supplies in the hippie outlaw town of Pahoa! I also do tours of the hidden gems of Puna that only locals know and other big tour companies don't do!! Just ask. Staying here provides locals only access to the gardens and free on-site, front row parking to one of nature's coolest displays! Grab a beer, kick back and enjoy this amazing feat of nature.
  • Simple and wonderful

    John2020-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Sean’s place is very cool for those looking for seclusion. It is powered by solar panels, on the lava plains surrounded by other small, spaced out houses. Uncle Roberts market is about 5 minutes away. We got to have breakfast here, but didn’t get to fully experience it due to covid shutdown. It sounds like a huge party when they have live music. The nearby town, Pahoa was slow and relaxed with great local food and shops. Sean’s place has a gorgeous rock garden with neat succulents, tropical flowers, statues, and lava rock. We needed batteries for some lanterns and Sean brought some out to us within minutes! Such great hospitality. Thanks again for the wonderful, crazy, memorable stay!

  • We loved this tiny house! The view was amazing and location was pretty awesome. Sleeping at night was so peaceful and we would definitely come back to stay again!

    Logan2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay in this little home in the middle of the lava field. We had a peaceful vacation here, would recommend!

    Léa2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Super close to the black sand beach if your wanting to go there. Seans place is that little getaway your looking for, I was surprised to find that the sleeping area is in its only little space... the shower is also pretty cool. Its great for off grid living :)

    Amanda2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Sean and Zorro’s place for one night when we were visiting Big Island. We thought it was a cool place in a super interesting location, and we loved the stargazing, views of the lava fields, and all the interesting off grid features of the house. We are used to camping, backpacking, and other other off grid ways of living and were not bothered by the composting toilet, water jugs, etc. The place was tidy and had some cute features like a book of letters written to Pele re: Pele’s curse. It was a side of the island we wouldn’t have seen or stayed in otherwise, and on the way out we did an amazing drive down to Kalapana and up 137 along the coast which we would highly recommend. We would recommend Sean & Zorro’s place to anyone who likes stargazing, interesting places to stay, and/or off grid living. We would definitely stay here again!

    Katie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the great variety of plants around the house. The stars are amazing

    Shauna2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I had such a good time staying here! It’s really cute inside and outside. The shower, toilet, kitchen all worked well. We slept well too! Enjoy the stars, enjoy the proximity to the beach. Our advice is to check in before sunset since it is an off-the-grid spot so it’s easier to find in the light!

Romantic hideaway! This property has the lush beauty and privacy of Hana, without the drive! Only 15-20 minutes to the airport, 10 minutes to beaches, 2 minutes to restaurants and shops...on a private gated property with organic nursery. BEAUTIFUL!
This place is a gem! SO CUTE! A remodeled 1930's cottage....that Jimi Hendrix stayed in when he was on Maui in 1970 to film Rainbow Bridge. Beautiful, quiet...REAL Maui! Recently remodeled, very cute! It is lined with cedar on the inside so it smells delightful when you walk in.... The Gingerbread House is a studio cottage with a kitchenette (toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, counter-top burners, full sized fridge) and spacious bathroom with a large custom-built, tiled shower.. It has high cathedral ceilings with a huge window that looks out on beautiful lush greenery. It is on a gated property. There is recently IMPROVED wireless Internet in the cottage, as well as wireless available to you in several other locations on the property. We have gotten the internet FIXED since the reviews were written so it is WORKING WELL IN THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE! As of 2018, we also added a Television with Netflix access and put in a larger hot water heater, so you should have ample hot water. It has a queen sized bed, and an outdoor patio under the spectacular tree canopy. The property is on 4.5 acres of lush beauty with a seasonal stream, an organic veggie start farm, fruit trees galore (help yourself when in season....) papaya, banana, lilikoi (passion fruit), coffee, plantains, oranges, mac nuts, avocado, lychee, mango, guava, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, coconuts, noni....and you also have access to an additional 4 acres on the adjacent property—which is home of The Sacred Garden—beautiful!. We have a 3 night minimum however we will book for 1-2 nights if the nights are available between other bookings so feel free to check with us. We have a 5 night minimum during Holiday periods like Christmas. We are in an awesome location just 20 minutes from the airport and Costco, and only 2 miles to Makawao town restaurants and shops, 7 minutes to Paia, 5 minutes to Haiku town. 50 Minutes to Haleakala National Park entrance. We also have a house on the property that is a vacation rental as well so if you need more space for a larger gathering let me know! I offer retreat services—relationship coaching, personal and spiritual growth, guided labyrinth walks and work with Maui's best practitioners so if you want more than a vacation, let me know! We can help you with everything from Massage, to intuitive readings! I also perform weddings so if you are thinking of getting married while you are on Maui....I can also help you with that! This rental is on the property adjacent to The Sacred Garden which has two walking labyrinths, water lily ponds, meditation gardens, and more ...and is free and open to the public daily. We have caterers and babysitters available if needed. The elevation is about 1000 feet which is PERFECT on Maui! We are about 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes for absolutely comfortable days (70-80 degrees) and GREAT temps for sleeping (usually in the 60's). This is the MAXIMUM elevation you can stay and still go scuba diving on Maui. Speaking of diving...we are avid divers and can assist you booking Scuba Diving with the best dive operation on Maui. You will definitely want a rental car....there is a bus stop a mile or two away but not ideal....and bikes are a little hazardous as these are hilly, windy, narrow roads. We have a loving and enthusiastic Golden Retriever and a few cats on the property but no animals are inside the cottage. There are wild chickens and roosters and cows on the property across the stream. Please keep in mind that this is a jungle environment. We have the houses treated for pests quarterly so you should have minimal issues with insects, however, If you are phobic of insects, the jungle will not be your best bet. Gecko lizards are also common inside the houses here. If you booked before April 2019: WE HAVE NOT INCLUDED the 14.41% Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax because you would have to pay the airbnb fee on that so to save you their fee WE WILL SEND YOU A SEPARATE INVOICE as a resolution request through Airbnb for the additional fee. (They do not add extra fees to the resolution requests.) PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS STATE LAW THAT WE ADD THE TAX...Sorry! If you booked April 2019 and later, Airbnb has collected the taxes for us/you. Thx!
This area is a magical well kept secret on Maui. We are located at the dividing line between the wet side and the dry side, which means we get enough rain to stay green, and enough sun to stay sane! We get rainbows almost daily and are the perfect temperature (60's at night, 70's-80's in the day).
  • The garden of Eden. On our way to Bora Bora we spent a couple of days in this unique house and garden, realizing that the world around us is changing rapidly but we’re protected in this refuge. Its unique position in a mountain basin lets one forget about the world. We could walk around on the large-scale-premises, sit next to a mountain stream that runs past the house, pick healthy fruits and vegetables such as tangerines, avocados, kumquats and lemons directly from the trees as much as we wanted. Instead of turning to media, we let funny roosters entertain us. Bora Bora, of course, because of last minute travel restrictions, we never reached - but we consider ourselves fortunate to have thereby spent a couple of days here.

    2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most amazing little find in beautiful upcountry!! my husband and I had the best time grabbing fresh oranges from the tree right outside the house and our morning hello from Fred the rooster. Eve was so friendly and quickly answered any questions we had. Perfect amount of quiet with a great restaurant or beach within a short drive. Will definitely be back!!

    Amanda2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Eve thought of everything! The Cottage is a perfect couples getaway spot with UpCountry charm and Lots of amenities!

    Julia2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Eve is a great host. The cottage is right next to the Sacred Gardens and is a must see! The cottage was clean and we loved the outdoor view! I highly recommend this place!

    Caleb2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Eve’s place is truly paradise. The cottage is thoughtfully designed and it’s just perfect in many ways. We fell in love with the garden , fruit trees, chickens and roosters. Also, We were amazed with sky full of stars at night time. We stayed there for four nights and we couldn’t get enough of it. If you are looking for nature’s beauty and serenity, away from crowd, this the the perfect place for you.

    Ramin And Leyla2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Eve’s place was one of our favorites!! What a cool cottage with all the amenities you need. The location felt super remote but was also very convenient to the airport, beaches, etc.. Would definitely recommend!

    Kaitlyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful, magical place and we loved it! The jungle setting is so gorgeous and peaceful, yet still close enough to drive to wherever you want to go on the island. The photos and description on Airbnb are spot on - I felt like everything was exactly the way it was presented there, no surprises. Gorgeous little cottage with everything we needed, luxurious linens, lots of lovely little touches. We also had the treat of being there on a full moon night when a moonlight labyrinth walk was happening next door at the Sacred Garden - what a beautiful experience! Highly recommend staying here over the crowded resort areas.

    Patricia2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place! We enjoyed drinks by the outdoor fire, fresh tangerines, the secret garden, labyrinth. Eve was a perfect host.

  • Amazing, cute cabin surrounded with beautiful wilderness of rain forest. Looks and feels like right out of a fairytale. No doubt i will call Anzu again when me and my fiance are back at this beautiful iceland!

    Vukan2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful, peaceful space to feel connected to the land and the local community. Great tips on local experiences, friendly hosts, and a truly Hawaiian experience. I cannot recommend staying here enough.

    Angela2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is pretty much perfect for 2 persons. There's a small kitchen to cook small meals in, a great hot water shower, a small sofa, bean bags for sitting around, even 2 lanais! It always feels welcoming, peaceful, and warm, which is exactly what you'd want to come back to after a day of exploring this awesome bit of land. It's close enough to Hilo for a convenient drive away, but just far enough to be surrounded by lush greens by day, and stars by dark night. Also keep an eye out for magnificent neon green lizards with hot pink stripes who hang at the lanai. Anzu and Bill are perfect hosts - welcoming, full of helpful information about things to do, and also gives a lot of space. It's one of the best places I've stayed in through Airbnb, so wld totally recommend this!

    Jac2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great! A cute little cabin with a little distance between the main house and the cabin to keep things private. Bill and Anzu are great hosts who made an effort to give recommendations for things to do on the island that I might have missed otherwise. The cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the two decks (one out front, and one behind the cabin) are great for taking in the beautiful greenery. They also provide snorkelling gear and beach towels. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful stay a little ways out of the city.

    Jordan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is so relaxing. The surrounding plants and cool breeze with floral scents made our vacation week the best we ever had. No television was a real plus.

    Arlene2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away from the city, this is a wonderful place to feel like you're hanging out in a tree house. I was only there briefly, but enjoyed the stars and sounds of nature. Wonderful hospitality!

King Bed, & 'Bali Style' outdoor shower- Apartment at street level in downtown Hilo Free parking. NOTE 14.96% TAX PAYABLE UPON ARRIVAL . CLEANING FEE OF $50 APPLIED FOR STAYS OF 7 DAYS OR MORE.
Enter from our garden courtyard, and hear the sound of running water from the stone pond beside the entryway. There is the feeling of 'sanctuary' here. This apartment is something a little exotic for your visit to Hilo. Charming architectural features include stone and teracotta tile floors, a timber wall and wooden beams. The Lo'i features King sized bed. Lo'i' is the Hawaiian name for the wetland taro that grows in clear running water. This apartment was formerly a 'Poi factory' where the staple taro vegetable was processed and was a much loved icon for Hilo locals for several generations and since the 1980's it was converted to a clothing store where two leading Hawaiian designers got their start. ..Fast forward to 'now' and you will find this is a self contained apartment with a bedroom, a sun room, private bathroom and outdoor shower area. A ceiling fan helps to cool the bedroom and due to the helpful suggestions of our guests we have added extra privacy by hanging a curtain on the rear door. There's no kitchen here but there is a mini fridge and a tea & coffee station. This may work for travelers who don't plan on spending vacation time cooking. Once you step out onto the street, there are plenty of great restaurant choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner within one or two blocks of The Lohi. This apartment is part of a complex of several old homes which have been refurbished and restored and is called 'The Lotus Garden.' On the property is a two bedroom guest cottage called 'The Sugar Shack' and a three bedroom vacation home called 'The Lotus.' Both of these homes are listed with airbnb.com. Our guests continue to let us know that our central location makes their stay with us easy and convenient. You can enjoy the convenience of being in the same block as some great budget cafes and restaurants as well as grocery stores and the Farmer's Market. Most visitors do hire a car to see the many remote spots on the island. If you are looking for an alternative to the major rental companies, just ask us for a recommendation for someone renting cars.
Hilo is a great town to walk about in and explore because of its small size. The heart of Downtown Hilo is only 3 blocks. In this area you will find wonderful restaurants and several great venues for live music. Keawe street is home to sushi and other restaurants, plus an open air bistro & bar plus several cafes, plus a Kombucha bar, a Kava bar and two great sushi restaurants. There's also a farmer's market on Bayfront and plenty of little stores to browse in. We love the slower pace of life here and the many artists, musicians and eccentrics who call this home.
  • The place is nice and clean. The environment is great for people to stay and feel comfortable. Feel very worth to choose the place! Definitely will come back again:)

    Xueyun2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is both adorably cute and perfectly located. The outdoor shower is a tropical dream come true.

    Linda2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A great little spot in Hilo. A nice little enclave and walking distance to many of Hilo’s attractions.

    Niall2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This beautifully furnish space made our time spent in Hilo one to remember. The place is very easy to find and centrally located right in Hilo town. A short walk will get you to a variety of restaurants, shops, the beach and a lovely farmers market. The shower was a major highlight. Located outdoors next to a calming fountain, the sound of running water and coquí frogs made for a Spa-like experience. I would highly recommend this space to anyone looking to delight in the charming character of Big Island.

    Emily2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, super close to the heart of Hilo. Farmers market. Natural food store. Park. Yoga.

    Carolyn2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little spot in the heart of Hilo!

    Kelly2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here on our first night in Hilo and it was a perfect homebase. Just a couple blocks from the farmer's market, and walking distance to lots of great restaurants. We didn't have any issues with heat or noise. Really comfortable bed. Would definitely stay there again!

    Jessica2020-02-06T00:00:00Z

  • Jeff and Marley (Gentle senior black lab) are awesome hosts! Quite an oasis in the hills above Kona! If it’s open... get on it!

    Rich2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great little space, centrally located in Kona. Marley is so friendly, and so are Jeff and the rest of his family

    Timothy2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to honeymoon. Jeff even brought us fresh fruit. Marley is also awesome.

    Adam2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • The location of Jeff’s place was perfect for my trip. I enjoyed the cool nights and lovely view. The bed is quite comfortable and being a tall person I really appreciated the high shower head height. The space is clean, parking in a covered garage was a plus, and being greeted by Marley, their dog, in the mornings for belly rubs was sweet. I did not have need to interact with Jeff much but he was always around so I knew if I needed anything I could easily reach him. As a solo traveler I felt safe at Jeff’s place.

    Nicole2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful stay for the price. Every detail was taken care of, and it is clean as can be! Jeff was a perfect host who was very responsive and attentive during our stay! The property is lovely and we slept very well. It’s super nice to stay out of town for a couple reasons: 1. The crowds and extreme congestion don’t exist at Jeff’s place. 2. The cooler temperatures make for very comfortable sleeping. No complaints 👍🏼

    Laurie Medeiros2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff is very kind and generous. The fruits available are seasonal. We were fortunate to have fresh picked papayas, avocados, guavas, dragonfruit, and bananas. As well as fresh eggs from the chickens. We loved his dog Marley and hugged him everyday. The location had an incredible view and wonderful feel. We will definitely return.

    Juancarlos2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. No improvements necessary.

    Sarah2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff’s place was great and he was an awesome host. He shared some “praying hands” bananas and had ample beach supplies on hand. The place is just hit enough for 2 people for a few nights as we explored Kona and the surroundings. We’d definitely stay here again.

  • It was so wonderful waking up to a beautiful sunrise in the morning, and in the evening having delicious fish tacos from the Sleeping Giant with a glass of wine on our lanai. The condo was perfect.... the pool area, the convenient location next to all the shops, the wonderful coffee shop close by!! Everything was just so nice!!!

  • Khaled and Heather’s place was easily hands down the best airBNB we’ve ever stayed at. From the moment we booked their place they had great communication with us. They had so many thoughtful touches, including the most detailed guide book! We also appreciated the beach towels, beach bag, and beach chairs. The location was also perfect, we weren’t too far from the north shore or south shore. There are also plenty of restaurants and shopping near by! I can not recommend Khaled and Heather’s place enough.

    Katie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. The view was amazing and the accommodations were very comfortable. Very nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Lots of markets and places to eat near by.

    Suzanne2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful view in a well managed property. Centrally located with access to everything we needed. Outstanding personal visitors guide prepared by the owners. Will definitely return!

  • The view of the ocean was amazing. Spent a lot of time on the balcony just watching the waves and specially on the rainy days. A beautiful pathway in walking distance for walking and riding a bike. The resort was clean and beautiful. Over and all it was awesome.

    Holly2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place was even better than we expected! We loved the view from the lanai and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean-so relaxing! The place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Being steps away from the beach was awesome. The hosts were great and communication was awesome. We are definitely staying here on our next trip to Kauai!

  • We had a great time and loved the view!

    Elaine2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding place if you truly want to be oceanside enjoying the view from the lanai hearing the waves and steps from the beach. Khaled & Heather are great hosts as their condo has everything you would want for a beach place and answer any questions you have quickly.

  • Saichi’s condo was perfect — extremely clean, perfect location (near Waikiki beach and all the popular shops & restaurants), very thoughtful amenities (shampoo, conditioner, coffee, tea, towels and other beach accessories) and pleasingly designed. Saichi was also extremely accommodating and kind and had super quick responses whenever we had a question. The enclosed parking spot was a bit tight of a squeeze but it was very close to the condo itself and felt safe. One of our favorite parts of the trip was having a drink on the lanai 🍹. The pool area looked beautiful and clean as well, though we didn’t take advantage of it this trip (as the beach is just a few blocks away). Highly recommend and mahalo, Saichi! 🤙🏼

  • This location is great and at a good price. The communication was easy. It was clean, and well stocked. I loved the Netflix aspect also, which you don’t get in most hotels. Thanks!

    Mary2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place in a good location with a parking space included in the price. The provided video instructions were well done and quite helpful. Also Saichi got right back to me when I had questions - he’s very responsive.

  • Very convenient location, great to have parking too

    Shelley2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, easy walking distance to beaches and restaurants. I would stay there again next time in O'ahu!

    Mark2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend this place. It’s clean, lots of little extras provided, courtesy and thoughtfulness by the host, Saichi. We missed our check-in because of a flight delay, and Saichi was concerned enough to call our home on the mainland to check that we were safe and ok. Perfect location for getting around Honolulu and plenty of nearby stores for picking up groceries, etc. Neighborhood is very secure. Can be a bit noisy when the garbage men come through, but that’s the same wherever you are. Would stay there again. Aloha and mahalo, Saichi.

    Carole2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is an awesome place to stay in Waikiki. Just a short walk to most of the places in town. Super comfy apt with a great bed and really nice living room. Saichi is a great host who answers messages within minutes. I highly recommend this Airbnb.

  • Excellent space, amazing architecture! Interior is huge & comfy. Loved hearing coquis in the evening (but glad earplugs were provided for the roosters). Morris is not lying when he says this home has big paradise energy.

  • The house is very spacious and comfortable. Very well equipped. The host is very gracious and extremely welcoming. We had everything we needed and more than expected.

  • A 5 star Airbnb. Location is great, close to downtown for foods and grocery, but not far from the attractions. Space: It is super clean and there are lots of thoughtful touches provided by the host. The space is huge and would be great for a big family. Communication: Morris and Yuka are very helpful, everything including local tips and supermarket coupon are provided from our communication. I’d highly recommend Morris and Yuka’s place for whoever would like to visit Hilo.

    Caroline2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Morris is a five-star host only because they don’t make 10 stars! Morris was very attentive to our needs and showed a level of generosity that is rare in today’s world. We felt welcome and at ease with Morris immediately and it was very clear that he wanted everything to be just right for us....and it was! I recommend staying at this location without hesitation!

    Timothy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were 6 adults and 1 kid stayed for 2 days. When we arrived in, Moris welcomed us warmly. The house was big and clean. He prepared everything such as kid toys, full kitchen, washing machine, winter cloth, welcome frute breakfast and the small gift. We also liked outdoor bbq grill. It's little difficult to find the entry od house from the highway but we didn't suffer from the road noisy. We definitely recommend this house to everyone.

    Hyundong2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful time with my family! There were playground equipment for children aged 0 and 4 to be able to play with fun, and the response was quick and complete. I want to stay again!

    Noritaka2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve stayed in a lot of Air B&Bs over the years but Morris was by far the most wonderful host we’ve met. Great communication, local tips, fruit and breakfast provided for the first day. The house has everything you could possibly need from beach equipment to coolers to a karaoke machine! Highly recommended.

A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Come experience the raw beauty of a lava eruption. The land has been transformed. Fissure 8 and the hardened lava flow is a 10- minute walk from our home. This is destruction & creation; We and the surrounding community of Puna have been transformed by this experience Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.
Welcome to Paradise. Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here. You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop with two burners, toaster-oven, Keurig coffee maker, French Press, Magic Bullet (shake maker) and all necessary kitchen utensils and condiments (e.g., coffee, tea, salt, pepper, olive oil, basic spices). Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture). Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book (translated into Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Korean) that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement. Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island. The price includes the following Hawaiian taxes: Transient Accommodations Tax: 10.4% General Excise Tax: 4.0% No security deposit is required.
In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.
  • Robert and Konrad's place is a peaceful small sanctuary surrounded by lush vegetation and flowering trees. It is truly a special place to relax, far removed from the demands of the outside world. The beds are very comfy and the kitchenette has all one needs to make coffee/tea and cook a meal. Perhaps the best part of the home is the lanai which has a lovely sitting area and is lit up with warm bistro lights in the evening. Everything in this home is spotless and clean. So happy to have the opportunity to stay with them!

    Charles2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • First off they are goals ok!!! They property it self is so amazing! Everything you would need they provides. From chargers, bathroom amenities, a tour book, even provided eggs, bread, and fruit from their garden. They even have a washer and dryer for your use! The patio is so nice to sit and relax at night and the bistro lights adds just the right touch. It’s so peaceful just listening to the bird sitting out there early in the mornings! The beds were so comfortable. Honestly Robert was so nice and inviting, and the place is amazing highly recommend.

    Deangelo2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Konrad and Roberts place was wonderful. Located in a quiet neighborhood with nature all around which helped for winding down after a busy day. We would recommend to anyone and definitely book again ourselves!

    Matt2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best stay here. Directions were super simple to get there. Konrad welcomed us and showed us around the property. They supplied us with all the essentials and more. The bed we slept in was very comfortable. Great local tips in the book for where to eat and things to do. They are very easy to communicate with and happy to answer questions. Hope to be staying here on the next trip! Highly recommend Konrad and Robert's place for your trip!

    Julia2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible stay at Konrad and Robert's place - if you are looking for a place to decompress and experience the natural beauty and history of the Big Island, we highly recommend staying here! Konrad and Robert left us everything that we could have possibly needed to feel like we were at our own home, including fresh fruit from their garden and some items to make breakfast. We also appreciated their recommendations for food and things to do in the area (all organized in a binder with guidebooks for additional reference). Coming back at night from a day of exploring to the sounds of coqui frogs and occasional light rain was magical, and we sat on the lanai every morning with our coffee enjoying the sunrise and the view of their property. We would love to return some day and hope that other visitors enjoy their stay as much as we did. Konrad and Robert, thank you for being such thoughtful, wonderful hosts!

    Deanna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you are wondering if you should stay here - the answer is yes. Don't hesitate, book it! The area is great in general, but staying here with Konrad and Robert made it truly divine! Upon our arrival they greeted us in person, and had prepared an extraordinary fruit bowl, and set us up with bread, eggs, creamer, etc! The home itself is stylish, comfortable, and cozy. Beds are great! Robes were provided and all the towels you could ever need. The porch is divine, and is where we spent all of our evenings and mornings. The hammock swings are very comfortable, and the full exterior dining table has room for everyone! The kitchen is perfect for preparing home cooked meals and there is a grill (imagine grilled pineapple at sunset 😍) I haven't even mentioned my very favorite part yet! The outdoor shower. This is a divine sunrise and sunset experience. There is also a beautiful indoor shower, but the outdoor one is spectacular! The binder in the house had great local recommendations for meals, experiences and we got some of our best tips from this! The home is situated on stunning grounds with manicured gardens! It is also located very near to the 2018 lava flow, which Robert reminded us to be respectful when visiting as there have been issues with tourists coming in to see it. He told us we could state that we were his guests if someone asked, and that made us feel very comfortable. Other highlights: came fully stocked in regards to shampoo/conditioner/etc. It had a washer and dryer with soap/etc. Rumba to clean the floors! Hands down one of the best experiences our group has ever had traveling. Amazing job guys!!

    Alyssa2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place is a beautiful and quiet home with lovely hosts! Robert greeted us kindly and has nice suggestions on where to go. I would definitely recommend!

  • Robert and Konrad are thoughtful hosts. Pāhoa is wicked cool we just loved the vibe and local recommendations our hosts provided. Hope to be back again soon. The place is clean and beautiful. Amazing landscaping and so incredible to see the results of the 2018 lava so nearby. We kept saying to each other every morning “another day in paradise.” ❤️❤️❤️

Jewel of the North Shore. Cool, breezy beachside studio for rent. Relax in this quiet neighborhood, explore nearby known spots such as Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, Haleiwa. Tropical private, outdoor shower, and private beach access out back gate.
This wonderful space has been built by my husband so that we could enjoy both mountain and ocean views. Guests will have private beach access to a beautiful quiet beach. There are some bicycles, yoga mats and boogie boards on the property for general use. We have a little farm and guests are welcome to collect fresh eggs for breakfast from our hens, as well as fresh fruit from some of our fruit trees. While our busy family lives on the property most of the time, it is quite likely our paths will not cross. There are common areas, such as the breezeway, to be shared but often the property is calm and quite. This desirable, somewhat eclectic neighborhood has beautiful beaches, elegant homes and quaint cottages. Historic houses nearby are available bi-monthly for viewing. Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve is just down the road past Mokuleia Polo Field, Dillingham Airfield, numerous hikes. Nesting Laysan Albatrosses and wedge-tailed Shearwaters, Hawaiian monk seals, Hawaiian green sea turtles are just a few treasures to be discovered while visiting. Haleiwa town is a few miles away with numerous restaurants, surf and dive shops, markets, etc. A parking spot is included. Airport shuttles could be arranged by you, and a short walk to local bus line would provide you another means of getting around. The unit has no formal kitchen. It is equipped with coffee pot, toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, blender, small fridge/freezer. There is a grill on the property for general use as well. The unit has a private bathroom. The shower is an outdoor, private hot shower which is generally used by all after beach activities. The novelty of showering outside under the stars is a tropical treat.

  • Amy's place was everything we could ask for and more! From the comfortable bed to the most pristine beach, it was heaven. We were able to have fresh eggs for breakfast from the chicken coop and grill fresh food for dinner. There was beach chairs and snorkel gear to enjoy the beach and go swimming with sea turtles and fish that live around the reef. There is a perfect balance of privacy and inclusion. Every place that Amy suggested was great! Malasadas from the local bakery are a must! We can not wait to be able to visit again!

  • What can I say? The studio was clean and comfortable, the outdoor shower was amazing, and the beach was outstanding! As an added bonus we got dog and cat access all week, and great tips about the area. If you want to avoid the craziness of Waikiki then then run away to the North Shore and stay at Amy's!

    Mary Alice2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! Very relaxing & Amy & Nick are really, really nice people!

    James2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amy’s place is a wounderful place , we enjoyed our stay very much and will be retuning in the future. She’s a great host and the location couldn’t be better.

  • Amy and her family are amazing and were all super helpful throughout our trip. As soon as we arrived Amy and her sweet puppy tucker were there to meet us! The room is spacious and was very clean. Amy and her family had great suggestions about where to eat, beaches to go for first time surfing and all sorts of local insight. We stayed at multiple places on Oahu on our vacation and this stay was our definitely favorite, we plan to stay here again next time we visit the island!

    Elisabeth2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amy’s place was perfect for my husband and I to unwind after a long day of travel. The beach access is incredible, the neighborhood is quiet, and her dog Tucker is charming. She is a wonderful, warm, and engaging hostess. We would definitely return in the future. Also the kitchen is small but she had all the supplies we needed for preparing breakfasts and lunches in the apartment.

    Tracy2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • From the living space to the recommendations about the area, Amy is amazing!! If given the chance, we recommend staying at Amy's

    Freddy2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amy’s location on the beach is unbeatable. Private walk out right to the water. What more could you ask for? The house has multiple areas for relaxing and enjoying the outdoor Hawaiian weather. You’ll feel at home on the north shore in this tucked away neighborhood. The home is very open and there is a lot of shared space so be sure that meets your needs!

You'll love this place bc of the views and proximity to ocean (see reviews). Pics don't do the view justice. - Private lanai that you can't get enough of! Diamond Head/ocean views. - Steps to the beach and Great running & swimming areas. - Small and older, 8th floor in Waikiki Grand Condo-tel (local live here) - Bed is a full size (not a queen) - Small kitchenette to make real meals for the lanai table views - Fast Wifi - HD TV with lots of cable HD channels for zoning off or lazy morning.
Is this your first booking on Airbnb? Use this link to receive $50 off your stay: www.airbnb.com/c/farango1 The beach on this side of Waikiki is much bigger than in the middle of Waikiki so there's more room to spread out. There's also a pier to jump into the water and kids area that is shielded from the big waves right next to the pier. All this is directly across the street. The name of the building is Waikiki Grand and each unit is individually owned and none of the units look alike on the inside. The building is located right on the edge of Waikiki and what is called The Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is essentially where all the local go when they say they are going to Waikiki. Theres a great beach there called Kaimana beach, it's great for playing and for swimming. Theres a flag that a lot of people swim to that is about 1/8 a mile away. You'll see fish and turtles on on you swim to the flag and back. Across the street from the building is the zoo and you can see Flamingos from the rooms lanai. There's a Starbucks, Teddy's Bigger Burger, ABC store all right as you walk out the building. I really enjoy eating a a place called Tucker & Bevy. If you are a runner there's a place the you can jog around Kapiolani Park, it's a little over one mile if you go all around it. Now, if you want a longer run you can run with hills you can run around Diamond Head which is a little of 3.2 miles. Chess players usually meet on the beach nearby and play speed games. I've never played but they look serious. Foodies- Great restaurants are always entering the market in Waikiki and it's surrounding areas. Dukes is a staple and will most likely always be around, but there plenty of other awesome ones that you can find on Yelp. Yelp will have all the latest and most accurate information on restaurants, if you don't like Yelp then just do a search for restaurants and you'll learn something great. I strongly recommend you take surf lessons, try canoe surfing which is very easy, and do the sunset sail. These are activities that people that live here still do, very memorable and relaxing activities.
You right across street from small pier, ocean, and zoo. Kapiolani Park and aquarium are a few minutes walk (under 5) minutes.

  • This place was great. A small space that has everything you need. The view from the private balcony was absolutely amazing. Perfect location; close to a beautiful beach, restaurants, bars and shops. Francisco was an awesome host, easy to get ahold of and always responded right away.

    Jennifer2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Even though the bed was small, it was super comfortable and was just fine for me and my fiance. Fransisco was super nice and helpful.

    Madeline2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The place has in my opinion one of the most beautiful views in Waikiki. It is amazing to wake up and have breakfast in the private lanai with views over Diamond Head, the beach, and the beautiful nature surrounding the zoo. The studio is on the 8th floor, chairs and table in the lanai are comfortable and high enough to enjoy an unobstructed view. The space inside is stylish, cozy and very well organized, starting from the small kitchen area with fridge where it's easy to cook meals, the comfy bed and the mirrors all around the room that give an even better sense of open space, and a nice bathroom with a bathtub. One beach towel, bath towels, hairdryer and iron are provided plus mini soaps, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Owner allows self check in with a code provided, but it is needed to register your name at reception before going up to the place. Highly recommended!

  • Wonderful place to stay. The hotel staff are very friendly and do a great job. If you are renting a car just pay the price at the hotel. Definitely the quiet side of town and this place has a view that you can’t truly capture with pictures. The host is very nice and responsive to messages. Even sends tips during your stay! Aloha!

The Bali Hut is a beautiful hand carved building done in Indonesia, located on a half acre, surrounded by palm trees and tropical gardens. Sleeping in the hut is a unique and peaceful experience, you will fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle and crashing of waves in the distance. The Bali hut is located within walking distance of the ocean and black sand beach.
Cabin/ antique Bali Hut in beautiful Hawaii on one half acre with ocean views on the Big island of Hawaii on the Puna coast, five minutes walking distance to the black sand beach where the dolphins swim and spin, whale watch in the winter months and play in the surf. My rental is just twenty minutes from Pahoa town where you will find many resturants and grocery and health food stores. This beautiful coastline is one of the most picturesque and oldest parts of Hawaii and the black sand beach is accessible for good walkers and good swimmers to enjoy. This coastline road is perfect for a bicycle ride to explore this beautiful paradise's hidden treasures. The lava has stopped now and its a beautiful and safe time to experience the wonders of this transformation including a new black sand beach and tide pools. The Volcano National Park is now open for viewing in many areas. This hut was hand carved in East Timor, Indonesia, sixty years ago and is free standing, open aired, screened with privacy mesh shades. The Bali house is quiet and peaceful, you will sleep to the sound of ocean surf and swaying palm trees and jungle noises. The bathroom and outdoor hot shower are separate from the house and very private, surrounded by trees and plants, their is a privacy fence on the border. Please note that because of the short walk to the shower and bathroom, the steps of the Bali hut and the walk could be a problem for guests that are elderly or have walking problems. The shower is not visible to my home or neighbors. NO COOKING FACILITIES are available, a coffee maker is provided if you wish to bring coffee and other things for your coffee. PLEASE NOTE, NO FOOD SHOULD BE STORED IN THE HUT OR IN YOUR SUIT CASES AND PACKS. A COOLER IS PROVIDED UNDER THE HUT FOR FOOD STORAGE AND FROZEN WATER BOTTLES ARE PROVIDED IS YOU WISH. PLEASE PUT ALL TRASH OUTSIDE OR ON MY PORCH FOR DISPOSAL, MAHALO. Please note this is a non-smoking home and grounds (no exceptions please) in a very quiet neighborhood. Wi Fi is available. Please note although I provide wi fi, it is not city fast but usually pretty consistent. Also their is no cell phone reception on the property but is available down the road. Many guests come to escape being plugged in. I will be happy to tell you of all the great things to do here on our special and beautiful island. A SPECIAL NOTE, I AM LOCATED AT LEAST TWO HOURS FROM THE KONA AIRPORT AND 45 MINUTES FROM THE HILO AIRPORT, I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR STAY. Aloha and mahalo.
My neighborhood is peaceful and very quiet, lots of beautiful plants to see on a neighborhood walk. My backyard is beautiful for plants and star gazing. My neighborhood is also very safe, I do have an office if you wish to lock up any valuables. Parking is available in my driveway, safe and secure.
  • If you want to experience a little oasis of Hawaiin charm...this is the place. Slept very well listening to the coqui frogs and fresh air. True to the pics and Louise is a great host

  • Secluded area with amazing hospitality for a lovely getaway.

  • Loved it.

    Jeffrey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unique hut. We stayed 7 nights in mid February, rented a Jeep and toured the entire island. Pahoa is such a sweet funky town and the black sand beach down the road from Louisa’s was magnificent (nude but magnificent). The hut is definitely glamping which was exactly what we were looking for. We LOVED falling sleeping to the sounds of the coqui frogs and the breeze in the coconut trees. You can even hear the waves from the beach. We mis—judged the driving distance from one side of the island to the other thinking we would use Louisa’s sweet hut as home base each night. But after 2 days of long driving stretches we ended up camping out of the Jeep 2 nights which was so fun. We packed our days with four wheeling down to hidden beaches, hiking, petroglyph hunting and even the Hilo Zoo. Uncle Richards on a Wednesday night is a MUST. Arriving to Louisa’s to a peaceful rest and a HOT shower at night was magical. The shower is outside which added to our lovely outdoor experience. Louisa is a dear woman who works very hard to make sure your stay is comfortable. When we got low on propane for the shower I simply messaged her and it was changed. The hut is private and definitely an experience.

    Dana2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and unique place to be! I would recommend everyone to stay in Louisa’s Bali hut and enjoy the nature there!

    Lisa2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This Place is Not only a lovely hat. It is also a Place to make good memories! Thanks to Louisa for her Shared happyness, Susann

    Susann2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a rustic stay in a very private and comfortable hut. Louisa is really friendly and accommodating. I slept like a baby with the ocean breezes and sound of the surf late at night. Add numerous birds chirping it was like the ultimate sleeping tonic for me. There’s local food and entertainment a short ways down the road with local music most days but particularly Wednesday and weekends. A 15 min drive to Pahoa and you have a couple of nice restaurants for local cuisine at Kaleo or Paulo’s For excellent Italian. The Tin Shack Bakery has great coffees and baked goods with some vegan and vegetarian options. I was told by other tourists Ning’s Thai and Pahoa Fresh Fish, Linguin’s for Mexican were also excellent choices. If you do a quick drive to Hilo there is two places I enjoyed, The Pond for seafood and bar food or Cafe Pesto was really nice as well. I had fun in the rural setting and enjoyed the unique culture on this part of the island. The locals lead a simple and peaceful life. Thomas

    Thomas2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The hut was as described and kept very clean. Check in was easy even though I got in late. Louisa was responsive to my communications and very friendly and helpful when I arrived. The area nearby is very beautiful and somewhat remote. From inside the hut I had a good view of the stars at night and it was very quiet with the exception of the coqui frogs.

Make this hawaiian home, bordering serene Makuu Homestead, surrounded by an opulent natural tropical garden, your special retreat. Three miles from the ocean, and a mile from the main highway, Hawaiian Jungle Hangout offers easy access to eastside highlights--30 minutes from Pohoiki bay (newest black sand beach/part of the 870 acres added from new lava last winter), 35 minutes from Volcano National Park, 20 minutes from Hilo airport, 10 minutes from Keaau town, and 10 minutes from Pahoa Village. The hangout offers 1600 sq. feet of living space. A full kitchen, two bedrooms, plus a den which has a sleeper sofa that opens to a queen round, in a comfortable home on a lush acre of tropical fruits and native plant. Explore the garden within lava rock flows. A memorable place to make your home during your vacation or business stay. Also available on the property is asian fused tropical Hawaiian Jungle Hut. Next to the main house with a separate entrance, the hut is perfect for a couple or single guest, having it's own full bathroom, living room, inside washer and dryer, and kitchenette with a tiki bar. I am usually there, but the hut is also wireless and cable connected and available as a separate rental whenever I'm away.

  • The place is a gem. Lovely house and area just around the corner from Hilo. Liz was caring and had lots of advices and tips. Would love to return. Mahalo

    Manuel2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Liz's place is fantastic for a couple/family/group of friends who want to just relax in a large space. Very close to Hilo and some nice restaurants the other way (Pahoa?). Liz was extremely responsive via text message and was able to send the housekeeper when we needed help! Mahalo!

  • Secluded comfortable roomy house includes washer/dryer very comfortable

    Duane2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We are so happy we stayed at Liz's place! The house was on a beautiful private rainforest road (her other rental is attached but we never saw or heard the other renters during our stay). We got there super late but check in is via keypad so it worked out. The house had so much of what we needed. A coffee maker, plenty of coffee filters, cooking oil, spices, enough towels and plates/silverware for all of us, and aloe vera. It's about 15 minutes from Target and other stores, about 2 houes to the Kona side, 20 from airport, and 40 from Volcano national park, but the drive everywhere was incredibly beautiful so we did not mind driving everyday. We saw about 2 geckos every night, we did not mind it but they are unavoidable, so keep in mind if that bothers you. AC worked fine and I was able to sleep through the loud nightly rain but 2 of the people in my group were woken up often from it. So again just keep in mind that if you are a light sleeper you will need ear plugs. Would stay here again and highly recommend!

  • A wonderful place that is clean and quiet with 360 degree views of lush, green forest.

    Pete2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We got a lot of information before we arrived. Liz explained everything around the house and sent us a lot of information about the area. When we arrived at the house after a long day all of us were so happy because the house was huge and had more than we needed. We really enjoyed staying at the hangout!

  • Great home great location. Loved listening to the sounds of the jungle at night! The communication was a bit much. Too many emails and details. Didnt need to know which cupboard cups were in ect as I can figure all that stuff out so had a hard time finding the time on my trip to sit and read through all the pages of emails. Also bbq wasnt usable as it was covered in mold but other then that the trip and house was fantastic. Loved the decor. Had a great feel and felt like home away from home. Thanks Liz!

Permitted Vacation Rental in Resort Zone. Fully furnished studio in condo hotel in Waikiki at 29th floor, gorgeous view. You can walk to the beautiful Waikiki beach and blocks of world-class shopping,Hawaii Convention Center and Ala Moana Shopping Center are few minutes away from the building.
Location is great, about a 10 minute walk to the beach, 7 minute walk to the main shopping areas and, 5 minutes to Mccully Shopping center, a nice strip mall with all the Asian food you can think of. There are many nice restaurants on your way to the beach and a full grocery store 2 blocks away.
  • Great place, studio is sparkling clean. Common area where pool's located is sparse and clean equipped with outdoor grills and plenty of places to sit. Only snag was the building's hot tub had a film of brown foam that looked like scum along the waterline.
