  • A great and quirky property - fab for a weekend away with friends!

  • The house is very large and was a super venue for my mums 80th birthday lunch it allowed relatives coming from a distance to stay and spend a bit more valuable family time together. Despite being large it still feels cosy and made for a very special day. We were there in the winter so mostly stayed indoors but the garden is also super and it would have been lovely in warmer weather to spill outside and enjoy that space too.

  • A group of 13 of us stayed for two nights at Harry’s place for my 30th birthday and we cannot reccomend it enough! The house is huge, beautiful, quirky and was equipped with everything we needed for the time there! The bedrooms are all lovely and comfortable, little touches made our stay so easy like providing towels, speakers and logs for the fire! It’s a great location about 20 min walk from the station, great pub a few doors down, and a nice area for a walk down the road. There was everything we needed- and Harry was super quick and helpful with all communication, a fantastic house and stay!

  • Amazing host - little touches, quick responses and easy check-in. The house is immaculate, so stunning and the pictures honestly don't do the space justice - so many spacious rooms! We had the best time and would firmly encourage others to book this house!

  • We hired out this lovely house for extra accommodation for our daughters wedding. It was a perfect base for family and friends. It was brilliant. There are a number of large rooms in this beamed house and it wasn't a problem for the bride and groom not to bump into each other in the wedding morning. Kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large group . All our guests loved it here and it contributed to making the weekend very special . Highly recommended. Thank you.

  • We had a fabulous weekend in Braintree. The house is perfect for a family/friends get together. There’s plenty of living space, a large dining room table and a lovely spacious and very well equipped kitchen. It’s brimming with beautiful period features, it’s tastefully decorated and has oodles of character. It’s a short walk to the town centre too which is nice to wander around for a few hours.

  • An amazing property and great venue and location. The house was beautiful and the gardens and swimming pool fabulous. Caroline was a great host and we loved Archie too !

  • We spent a couple of days and nights at Caroline’s amazing property. It’s really peaceful and set in some stunning grounds. We made use of the swimming pool, tennis court and BBQ and the kitchen, outdoor area and sitting rooms are perfect for socialising as a large group (and doing a murder mystery game!). Thanks Caroline for a really enjoyable stay and bring a perfect host.

  • 5 star! Everything was spot on with thoughtful touches to make our weekend special.

    Sophie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house, great facilities. Everything as advertised! Pool fantastic even in late August and fabulous grounds. We had a meal at the local pub too which was nice. Our8 teens loved it!

    Naomi2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • I was able to have one of the best weekends I can remember at Caroline’s place. The pictures don’t do it justice - amazing grounds, lovely pool, great house and everything was excellent. Caroline was very responsive with lots of thoughtful touches and the groundskeeper was also good to have on hand to help us but also gave us our space. A terrific weekend to celebrate a joint 30th with close friends. Once again, pictures don’t do the place justice. It is beyond expectations to say the least.

    Chris2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend in Hempstead at Caroline’s house. Went for a birthday party, the house had everything we could need for 20 people. Gorgeous property, and Caroline was very responsive. Chris the groundskeeper was also great.

    Tara2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This house exceeded expectations due to Caroline’s thoughtfulness and personal touches. The house was stunning, so comfortable. The grounds are stunning. We had 18 people staying very comfortably. Would highly recommend.

    Clare2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and spacious, the perfect place for a group holiday. The pool is lovely and we made good use of it as well as the tennis courts. The house has everything you could want and more and is set up to accommodate 17 people perfectly. Refurbished to a great standard throughout. Caroline was amazingly helpful throughout the whole process from initially looking until the end of our stay as was Chris the groundskeeper upon arrival. We all had a fantastic time. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home x

Master bedroom in “Britain’s Most Extraordinary Home”. Decorated in Scottish Art Nouveau style, this room recreates in nightmarish detail the bed chamber of a seven-year-old Edwardian child complete with books, toys and ephemera. Unlike other rooms, guests who book for the Haunted Bedroom are guaranteed exclusive use of the entire house and gardens for the duration of their stay. But if you have extra guests they can book one of our two other spaces: The Cabin and The Room of Dreams.
Intimate, low lit in period wall lighting and candles. Heavy drapes and wardrobe space. Sounds of ocean at base of cliffs outside windows. Unexplained smells and sounds. Not for the faint hearted.
  • We loved our stay at Talliston. John gave us a fascinating tour of the house when we arrived. We highly recommend having dinner there, the food was delicious and eating in the dining room really added to the experience. The full English breakfast was excellent too. Exploring the house after dinner was an unforgettable experience and we hope to return to Talliston once we’ve finished reading the book.

    Sarah2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most extraordinary and life enhancing place you will ever visit. Leave all your expectations at the (very ordinary) front door, because inside is a magical wonderland waiting to be discovered. I don't want to say anymore about it, because you need to experience it for yourself. John is a fabulous and very attentive host/tour guide whose imagination is mind blowing and whose thoughts about life are entirely inspirational. Dinner and breakfast, cooked by the lovely Marcus, were both excellent. For what is on offer, it is exceptional value. We actually told John he wasn't charging enough, but it is testament to his ethos that he is content with things the way they are. Couldn't recommend Talliston House more highly.

    Deborah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts and an incredible building, also super clean. Amazing breakfast.

    Tony2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is an Experience, not a place, and so is impossible to fully describe. If you want to experience multiple different 'places' you might live, and to truly escape into them, this is a place to do it. It is not a 'fantasy', but it is an amazing creation and a product of imagination, vision, creativity, planning, and motivating like minded people to make a truly 'one of a kind' experience. It is not for everyone, by any means, but for those who seek out truly unique experiences, this is one.

    Michael2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Once visited, never forgotten.

    Fright2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Talliston house is a stunning home, full of intrigue and wonder. John is an exceptional host, sharing stories of the house and it's creation. Marcus made a wonderful dinner and breakfasts tailored to our needs. It really is a unique and stimulating experience. I highly recommend visiting or staying at Talliston house.

    Cate2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Talliston House is an experience not to be missed - look at the website and view it on Netflix and when you visit you won't be disappointed - it's better in real life and your hosts are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended for a unique break away from reality and the hum drum of normal life.

    Barney2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Talliston is something else. The most magical, amazing house I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. The tour at the start was very interesting and gives you an insight into each room. We then had the house to ourself to explore and take photos. Breakfast the following morning was spot on and you get to eat at the grand table in the living room. Both Marcus and John were lovely and very accommodating. Their local knowledge was great, with good dinner recommendations, and things to do and see. Everything was magical and we had the most amazing time. Thank you both. We will be back.

  • Wonderful stay. Carrie-Anne offers lovely accommodation in a converted stable which is cosy and comfortable plus supplied with everything you might need. We were welcomed with a breakfast platter too containing local bread, butter jam, milk etc which was a really nice touch. Highly recommend staying here.

  • Wonderful stay. Homely and little finishing touches to make our stay most comfortable. Really enjoyed the setting and hospitality was great.

    Becky2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very Impressed with the accommodation and the hospitality of Carrie-Anne. Me and two colleagues enjoyed a ten day stay while we worked in the local area. Being from Scotland the local area was full of beautiful scenery and lots of places to visit however we spent most of out time at work or in the accommodation. Number 1 the stables is a beautiful, comfortable and very well finished space and Carrie-Anne was accommodating from the start and replied very quickly to messages. Very pleased with the stay as a whole and hopefully will get the chance to stay again. 5*

  • We were simply looking for a dog friendly stop over to break up the journey from West Wales to Colchester and back while taking our son back to uni. What we found when we arrived was a little cottage oozing with character and charm. Everything was spotlessly clean and well considered. The welcome basket of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, jam, marmalade, butter, eggs, bread and milk meant that we were sorted for breakfast. Carrie-Anne really had thought of everything. There is a communal barn serving the 2 properties with a log burner, chairs, tea and coffee facilities and games - a really unexpected bonus. Our dog was really at home here. There are walks from the cottage and across the fields. I’m so glad we found this place - definitely 5 star!

    Mark2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so nice. Brand new so everything is lovely and fresh. Carri-anne is a brilliant host she was on hand and even lit the fire in the gorgeous barn for us, on our arrival. It’s a very beautiful and very peaceful location, and we felt very relaxed during our visit for a wedding. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always really quick to get back to us following any questions or requests - thanks both.

  • Beautiful, peaceful, comfortable, secluded! Andy and Robert were brilliant hosts, great communication, simple directions and a very warm welcome. After two hours on the m25 the bottle of wine was very much appreciated! The Old Stables are just lovely, super comfy bed, rain shower, small but absolutely perfectly formed kitchen (with enough equipment for me to cook a Sunday roast). The weather was nicer than expected so I got to enjoy the patio area aswell, looking out over the beautiful gardens. I wouldn’t change a thing, thank you again Andy and Robert!

A single comfortable bedroom in a quiet countryside house five minutes drive or ten minutes bus ride from Stansted Airport. Two miles away from Great Dunmow offering shopping, pubs and restaurants, and banking. Pub serving food in walking distance. Ideal for stopping over before or after your flight. Easy access to London via rail (from Stansted Airport) or M11.
The house is located in a cul-de-sac 5 minutes walk from the bus stop. There are two bus routes that stop near the property, 133 and 42A. Local taxi companies can be pre-booked, you are welcome to contact me for information. There is free car parking for the night of your stay, but unfortunately it is not possible to leave your car for the duration of your holiday. There is not much street lighting after dark, so you may want to bring a torch. Please take care when approaching the house, there are three steps on to some decking which can be slippy in bad weather.
  • Diana's place is so convenient for early morning flights. She was a great host and even if you are coming in late, she gives great directions and her house is a 3 minute walk to the bus stop to get a bus to Stansted Airport, 15 minute bus ride and costs £3. Place was clean and she has a kettle, coffee, tea and milk in the room; awesome!! I would definitely go back.

He found the best solutions, so that I could find, very quickly the house, but also that room. About this, I can say that it is perfect, in addition, in the room, you will find boiling, tea, coffee, sugar and a very pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Relax in this detached former cart lodge surrounded by beautiful countryside and located in the owners’ grounds in a great rural location. The Cart Lodge can accommodate up to 5 people, with the Master Bedroom having a King size bed and the second bedroom having a Queen size bed and single bed. We take the utmost care in cleaning the property including disinfecting frequently touched surfaces between reservations so that it is safe for our guests upon arrival.
The Cart Lodge is located in a village celebrating 800 years, with the village comprising a village pub (The Five Bells, located a short walk away), a church, primary school and village shop. The next nearest and biggest town is Halstead, about 3 miles away. Sudbury, located in Suffolk, is just a little further afield, about 8 miles. Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, is about 20 minutes drive away.
The peace and tranquility of the area makes this an ideal getaway, and yet within easy reach of local villages and towns. There is an abundance of local pubs and eateries to enjoy, if cooking in the self-contained Cart Lodge does not suit.
  • Wonderful little converted barn on the outskirts! Perfect for a little get away with the family! The hosts were wonderful and even gave us some homemade goodies! Would recommend highly to any couple or family getting away from the hustle and bustle 😊

  • This cottage was perfect for our family of 5. Just what we needed for our break in the country. Right from the start, the little touches made us feel at home. It was quiet, but detached, which meant our jetlag didn't disturb anyone, and it was close enough to a couple of great pubs that gave us a walking destination. We will definitely look at staying again.

    Jasmine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We love the cottage and will be back. All the things provided for you to have a great stay away from home. The only downside for us are the single track roads to the cottage but for others the remote location would be idyllic.

  • Nicola was a great host, communication was very prompt when we first made contact to book and my daughter and I were made to feel welcome the moment the front door was opened. The accommodation was very homely and we love quirkinesses and that was what we found. The rooms were clean and comfortable and Nicola catered for our dietary needs. We love animals and it was lovely to meet Nicola’s dog who was very friendly and well behaved. Although the house is on a main road, the bedroom is at the back the house and we had a very good nights sleep, you could here the traffic passing if you were in the front room but that didn't bother us. If we visit Braintree again we would definitely stay with Nicola. Thank you Nicola you are a five star host.

    Jayne2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Nicola's house that left us with a good taste and a desire to come back to Braintree as soon as possible!

  • Huge space with the whole floor to yourself so you can be privately separated in the house. Nicola was a great host and I would highly recommend this for others to stay!!

  • A great area of space, you get the whole top floor en-suite and a great seating area.

  • Wow, what a find! This amazing historic Tudor house is full of interesting artefacts and unusual decor. I fell in love with the period features such as the exposed oak beams everywhere, gothic window and beautiful barn style doors - honest and pure beauty! This place is a must if you love old houses with totally authentic character!! The facilities are great; a huge living/dining area with fridge/toaster/kettle etc, cosy bedroom and en suite. Nicola and her friendly dog are excellent hosts and totally respect your privacy. You have a self contained attic space which is totally private and separate with your own front door key. Thank you for a lovely stay in your home Nicola :) I hope to return in the future!

  • A lovely little place to stay for great value. The space is really big with everything you could need. All the things you could need in a kitchen, plenty of hot water, comfy sofa with TV and lovely bed. Quick communication and easy check in. A really convenient 10 min drive from Saffron Walden for dinner and food shops. Overall a great night away for some peace and quiet.

    Mary2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Every detail had been thought of to make our stay comfortable; the lighting, furnishings, layout, the scent, the products. Everything. The open plan design of this converted stable makes it feel very inclusive. The grocery touches in the kitchen made us feel home away from home with fresh eggs, milk, beers, soft drinks, biscuit and cereals available. We booked this with the objective of locking ourselves away for a couple of nights and avoid distractions of day to day life. This place was perfect. Lots of recommendations we’re given for restaurants/pubs etc and we visited the Fleur de Lys pub which was a 10 minute drive away. Large open fire, excellent hospitality from Chris and the team, wine and food was delicious ... and a cute quiz night on a Thursday! There is a pub walking distance (5 mins) on the opposite side of the road which is more of a restaurant than a pub and the proprietor Lee (or Leigh) was a lovely lady whom we exchanged stories with whilst there. Saffron Walden is 10 mins drive. Quaint village of a Thaxted is 5 mins away. Our entire experience was brilliant and Aaron and Sydney were extremely communicative despite us never meeting during our stay! Thank you. Hope to visit again. Gemma and Scott

The Vinery is a bright, self-contained studio within beautiful surroundings. Rolling countryside views to Radwinter Church make this a peaceful and restful stay. River and village walks are highly recommended. We welcome dogs; we have two of our own. Close by is the medieval market town of Saffron Walden. Cambridge, Stansted Airport, London and the village pub are all within easy access. Sorry, no smokers.
The accommodation is for a couple but there is room for a baby or small child. French doors open onto the private patio and garden. As there is a no cooker in the Vinery a continental breakfast will be provided for guests.
Visit Saffron Walden with its medieval buildings, twice weekly market and independent shops and cafes. Audley End House is not to be missed. Linton Zoo and Chilford Hall Vineyard are both close by and worth visiting.
  • We recently stayed for one night at The Vinery. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Helen was there to meet us on arrival. She’s super friendly and, as I found earlier in our communications, she’s so helpful and gave us loads of information....we couldn’t have asked for more! There’s absolutely everything you’d need in The Vinery, it’s spotlessly clean and really cosy. Also, a fantastic breakfast was included too. We’ll most definitely be back for another stay!

  • A charming place, located in beautiful surroundings. With all amenities and a lot of character.

    Marion2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We were very impressed with our recent stay within The Vinery. Helen was very friendly & made us feel very welcome at her accommodation. We were offered lots of useful tips including restaurants in Saffron Walden as an alternative to the local pub. As we also enjoy looking around antique & second hand places- a trip to Reeds was also a great recommendation. Saffron Walden has many interesting streets & buildings to discover on foot plus an impressive church in the town centre.

  • Was a lovely space in a lovely area, would definitely visit again

  • Campion lodge is absolutely fabulous. When we arrived it was quite dark but the lodge was all lit up with Christmas decorations and the heating was on so it was cosy and inviting. We stayed for a long weekend and were lucky enough to experience a lot of snow, the view from the lodge was fantastic. The hot tub was well maintained and added a real wow factor. The lodge is well equipped with everything you need to make a meal, and a welcome hamper of wine, milk and biscuits was provided. Nice touch. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom huge! Campion Lodge is one of five lodges all in a row but it still felt very private and there was no noise from the other lodges, although I’m sure they used the Bose sound system as much as we did :) We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lodge to friends and are already planning our next visit. Our dog was the saddest of all leaving this lovely place.

  • Just an amazing place. Quiet and peaceful, just the place for a retreat from everyday life. Trevor has provided all the little extras to make it an incredible stay. Everything was clean and it's very warm even if you are out of season. Trevor was very welcoming and rightly proud of this lovely escape. Highly recommended.

  • Absolutely adored our stay at Trevors cabin this gone weekend. It’s spotlessly clean, so cosy, and feels luxurious despite its small stature. We were there during a storm and it was incredible listening to the wind and rain but not feeling in the slightest bit exposed. So lovely and warm inside and plenty of cushions and blankets to cuddle up with. We made pizza from scratch in the ovens - the hut has scales, jug, bowls so there’s everything you need for pizza apart from the ingredients. It was the perfect romantic get away in nature and ended up with us getting engaged! We’ve already planned to return for a mini honeymoon. Thanks Trevor!

    Lucy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place to stay. The actual location was amazing as it was so private and quiet. We enjoyed all the amenities that were available, even in the windy weather. The inside of the Hut was immaculate and very cosy. Trevor’s suggestions on where to eat were spot on too. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and a lot to explore. A fantastic weekend away.

  • Myself and my girlfriend enjoyed another amazing stay at the shepards hut. Every little details is thought of and it makes the stay more special everytime. This time we really enjoyed the addition of the Pizza oven, it was really fun to cook with. Our favorite feature every time is the hot tub, we really enjoyed relaxing and looking at the stars from it in the evening. Thanks again for anothee wonderful stay and amazing time.

  • I’m actually debating to write what I really think of our stay at North Lodge because I don’t want the secret to get out! Seriously, the Cottages at Spain Estate, North Lodge in particular, was simply outstanding. The pictures on Airbnb do not do it justice. I have never been so impressed with the beauty and quality of any place I’ve stayed like North Lodge! It is the quintessential English cottage that is very tastefully done. And the price is very reasonable. We felt so at home, and our communication with Archie and Anna was delightful and expedient. They truly are SUPER hosts! I highly recommend staying at North Lodge. It was the best Airbnb experience that I have had and will be hard to top!

    Raymond2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed at North Lodge for 9 nights with my wife's 84 year old Mum and our Labrador while waiting for the keys for our new home and it turned out to be a real home from home. It's a beautiful cottage set in countryside on the outskirts of the stunning village of Finchingfield. The interior decoration, furnishings and fittings are first class. The cottage has two spacious bedrooms, one upstairs, one downstairs, both with en-suite double showers, and both beautifully decorated and furnished. There are three steps down into the kitchen which my mother-in-law struggled with a bit as she is very unsteady on her feet these days, but that really is the only minus point to this property for anyone with mobility issues. As a dog owner we found it ideal. The garden is completely enclosed so our labrador was able to roam freely and you can walk straight from the cottage across farmland. The weather was amazing during our stay so it was nice to leave the front door open, sit on the veranda or enjoy meals in garden while our dog roamed freely. It's a really relaxing place to be, Archie is an incredibly accommodating host (allowing me to view the cottage and book it while there from the comfort of the sofa). Although we only live 30 minutes away and this was only meant to be a stopgap during our house move, we loved our time here so much that we will definitely be back!

Little Dunmow is a small pretty conservation village of medieval origin and was named in the Domesday book in 1087. It is the Original Home of the Ancient Flitch Trials where a Flitch of Bacon was rewarded to a couple who had remained married and 'unregreted' for a year. It is now a big event held every 4 years in Great Dunmow and is a great excuse to visit the area. We are just a couple of miuntes walk away from the Flitch way County Park which is popular with Walkers and Cylists http://www.visitparks.co.uk/places/flitch-way/ Also a great location for the many wedding venues in the area such as Leez Priory and Events at Chelmsford Race Course.

  • From the moment we walked through the front door, we loved Heather’s place. It feels so warm and homely, with a beautiful quirkiness. It has all the charm of a 15th century house, with all the comforts of the 21st century. We cooked dinner on Sunday and the kitchen had everything we needed, like a home from home, with the bonus of a lovely dining area, and the thoughtful touch of daffodils in a vase. We bought delicious fish and chips at Sible Hedingham, a short drive away. There’s an amazing inglenook fireplace and we had a roaring fire in the log burner. We would have loved to stay longer!

  • Such a lovely, clean, quiet place in a beautiful setting. The hosts were super responsive and the house was spotless and so charming. We travelled from the States with 3 young children and it had everything we needed to have an enjoyable and relaxing break including a travel cot, high chair and stair gate. We used the wood burning stove once the kids went to bed and got in some relaxing time that way. The property is updated, warm, private and charming. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Katie2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Such a warm and cosy, spotless cottage. Absolutely perfect for a family stay and ideal if attending a wedding at the castle. The hosts were outstanding - always quick to respond to any queries and left us to our own devices. The location is beautiful. The children particularly loved playing “Spot the Pheasant” out the window! Faultless - we didn’t want to leave!
