Carlissa has made such a cozy and welcoming spot in her home, especially for anyone wanting to get away from the monotony of hotel rooms and treat themselves to a relaxing stay in a wonderfully old farmhouse. Everything you need is provided, the comforts of home are plentiful, and Carlissa is always available on the off-chance you need her. As a light sleeper, I was a bit tentative about the train noise she mentions, but have to say, I slept right through it four nights straight. And if you decide to hang out on the great wrap-around porch, you're sure to make friends with their sweet furry ones :) Super friendly folks! If I'm in the area again, I will definitely see if there's room for me. Thanks again!!

Carlissa is great and very accommodating. She did everything she could to make sure we enjoyed our stay. If your scared of some paint chipping or minor defects in the house it's not for you but if you want a relaxing stay in a house with tons of history this house is perfect and so is Carlissa.

Excellent place! I'm glad I stayed there. Carlissa was very fast to respond when I told her the light was out in the bathroom. There's lots of pretty details in the apartment and even some snacks.

Carlissa’s place was perfect for a week long work trip to the area. A full kitchen allowed us to prepare meals and have the comforts of home while being away. The place is historic and beautifully renovated. It is an old building without central air so it does get warm but as do all places mid-August. Carlissa was friendly and accommodating. Quick to answer our questions and even left snacks, extra towels, and extra linens if needed in the space. Would stay again if we have to come back to the area! Close to local restaurants and shopping needs.

This home is a true gem. You feel like you're in a park while sitting on the deck or on the screened in porch. The neighborhood is very quiet and serene. The inside is very clean and spacious. Everything you could possibly need is provided. This home is in a perfect location and met all our needs, and it is right across the street from the Virginia State Police. Karen and Marco were most accommodating. They were willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. I relocated to the Emporia area and wasn't able to find living arrangements right away. I stumbled upon Karen and Marco's Airbnb and am so glad I did. The price for my two month stay was very affordable. I would 100% recommend Karen and Marco's place. You will not be disappointed.

One of the best Airbnbs I have ever been to! Karen and Marcos were excellent hosts, I had fresh towels and linens every week, a TV with a Roku in my room, a mini fridge and microwave in my room, as well as access to a full kitchen, washer/dryer, Wifi and printer, screened in porch, keypad doors, and private parking. The little things are what made it for me: an outlet behind my bed fitted for USB cords, a first-aid kit, a little packet of Good Earth peanuts. When you stay somewhere for over a month, these are really the things that count. Thank you for sharing your home with me!

This review is for the second month of our two-month stay. It was just as great as the first month! I highly recommend Karen to anyone needing a room in Emporia.

When looking for a "short term" rental for lodging during a summer internship all of the normal commercial avenues were too expensive and too restrictive. And then I came across Karen's listing. Her Airbnb was much more practically priced and perfect for my needs of the 10 weeks that the internship lasted. Not only was the listing exactly as advertised but Karen's communication was always prompt and helpful. Would stay with Karen again without hesitation.

This place is a real nice place to stay. It is a bit away from I-95 but worth it. For travelers coming from the north, don’t follow your GPS, it is to long. Get off the exit Debra tells you it is much faster!

Perfect place to stop if you’re traveling up or down I-95. Peaceful and beautiful, my wife and I felt safe and sound. The location is perfect if you’re towing a large trailer too! We would definitely stay here again!

Gavin's house was very clean and spacious. I was super impressed with the small touches left by the host upon my request. The listing and photos don't nearly do this place justice. I can't speak highly enough about this space!! It looks tiny, but upon entry, its enormous . Everything was tidy, comfortable and we had everything we needed. Parking is simple, access to town and highways is a breeze. The yard was a welcome sanctuary. It was was Valentine's, they even gifted us a bottle of Cabernet !! Such thoughtful and welcoming hosts! Will make a point to visit again!!

I had to visit this cute little town under grim circumstances, a funeral. I was flailing to find something convenient and I came across this listing. Not only was Gavin was thoughtful and gracious the house was a pleasant surprise. I'm fact I wish we could have stayed longer. The home was clean and inviting. Perfect for families or groups. All of the small touches you need in a home to enjoy your stay were thought of wish we had the opportunityto take advantage of them. When we return we will be sure to book this home!

I love old houses and being in this old house with hundred-year-old wood features and high ceilings gave this a very charming and homey feel. Carlissa was extremely thoughtful in leaving the lights on because she knew we were arriving after dark and she had already given us the instructions for getting in. This property is close to a I 95 exit so it can be very quick to get on and off the highway.

Carlissa is a great host. Quick responses and always there if you have any problems. Enjoyed my stay. Was there several weeks due for a work trip.

This was my fourth stay at Linda’s place. It’s clean, comfortable, and quiet. A great value. It fit our needs perfectly. Linda is a great host...very kind and quick to respond.

Quaint room in a quiet area. Perfect for a nice getaway with antique furniture and nice bathroom.

The Patterson Mansion was a great place to stay. I spent a month there working in the area. Close to plenty of food options, and has everything you need as long as you travel with a laptop.

We enjoyed a quick trip out of the city here. The land is beautiful and peaceful. The house was neat to explore and we enjoyed reading a bit of the history on it. Saw a large group of deer pass through and enjoyed sitting outside listening to the birds. The gas fireplaces make the house cozy and the furniture was comfortable. Appreciated the easy check-in/check-out process and some staple items in the pantry.

Beautiful historic home and property. The holiday decorations added such warmth. The sounds of nature, the crickets, birds, even just the wind provided a much needed disconnect. The bed was clean and comfy, and the sunrise view was wonderful. Hosts were very responsive and fast to assist when needed. Hope to return again.

Great place

A beautiful former plantation surrounded by acres and acres. Snowy cotton on the ground, Christmas touches in the house. Tall ceilings, has fireplaces and very tastefully decorated. Read the book about the former owner of the property James Y Mason a major player in 18th century politics. Bring food or stop before Emporia for a meal.

Cloud9 lives up to the name - peaceful, clean, beautiful, and a total escape from the daily grind. The weather was cold and a bit snowy so we didn’t get outside much, but still loved watching stars from the dock, and sitting on the porch in the afternoons. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking, and there is a grill as well. Loved our time here, and will be back again!

Cloud9 was a great stay! We were looking for a winter getaway, and this lakehouse was perfect for it. The house had a lot to offer and everything we needed. I brought my boat- the neighborhood ramp, and Cloud9 dock, easily accommodated it. The entire house was nice- you will not be disappointed. This would be a great place to bring multiple friends, family, and kids. We will be back

We absolutely loved our stay at the lake house! It can be really hard to please a group of 9 30-somethings (sleeping arrangements, ammendities, have a functional and liveable space) but this home was perfect for us! The kitchen was the most stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and sliverware of anyplace we've stayed and we had absolutely no problems on our vacation.

What a beautiful, peaceful experience! The house is gorgeous and had plenty of space for us to spread out and enjoy the lake. We spent much of the weekend outside, enjoying the dock, using the swing (zip line is there for older kiddos too!), and eating our meals on the deck. Kitchen was well appointed and we were easily able to make all our meals, and everything was spotless. Katey was amazing to work with and quickly responded to questions. We will definitely be return visitors!

What a find! We are a family of 4 and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here. It's in the middle of farm land. The place has clearly been done with a lot of heart and love. We were traveling late and found deborahs place on the way to the outer banks. True Americana in style and my kids and I very much enjoyed our respite our stay and full kitchen amenities and nice touches for us. Thank you. Again. And I can recommend it to anyone traveling.

Beautiful place both inside and out. We enjoyed sitting near the lake and got to go for a paddle boat ride. Teresa, the host was very hospitable and is an amazing cook. We got breakfast and she went above and beyond to help celebrate my wife’s 40th. We even enjoyed a campfire.

We really enjoyed our stay! The backyard outdoor area is beautiful, with easy access onto the water. We enjoyed having access to the paddle boat and kayaks as well. The space was clean and well-equipped. Teresa was very kind and helpful.

This was a very relaxing getaway in a beautiful cabin. Loved waking up to the view of the lake off the deck! It felt warm and cozy and the perfect place to unwind.

We did our family Christmas with our adult children as we do every year. This turned out to be the absolute perfect venue. The house is lovely and sparkling clean. A super nice touch was Christmas decorations were set up, and she was even thoughtful enough to put out some Christmas music and movies. I had one question and she responded immediately during the stay. The floor plan is nice and open which fit our needs perfectly. It has huge windows so you can see the sunlight rise over the lake. There is a public park nearby with a hiking trail the children went walking on. Can't say enough good things.

The house is exceptionally clean. The sunrise over the lake is stunning. The kitchen has every gadget you might need. Nice place! All equipments were available. Only downside, Smaller than expected and roof almost touching head and my hands accidently touched the ceiling fan lucky didn't get wounded and I'm only 5'8. other than that Great place to stay!

Another great trip! This place is perfectly situated on the lake, a 7 minute trip to Food Lion and a quick boat ride across the Bay to the Marina store. The doc has steps that walk down to a firm Sandy bottom that's about 3' deep so it's great for kids or getting situated on your float. Really nice private cove with expansive views, will be back again. We messaged Leigh that we could not get the gas grill going and the very next day she brought a new one and set it up.

Excellent Location, Lot, View, Fishing etc. We stayed here for a couple of nights and really really enjoyed ourselves. Having stayed on the Lake in many areas before this location is unusually calm when other parts of the Lake can be choppy. Floating, swimming and fishing off the dock were outstanding as well as the view from the porch. Short walk to the dock and the cove is serene but with a big view. We plan to come back in August it was such a great spot. Leigh the host was available when needed and very responsive.

This Christmas our two families had the good fortune to stay at the beautiful Cardinal Cove with an amazing view of the lake! This house is so beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable! The owner had placed sweet, festive touches that made it so welcoming and cozy! The two fireplaces and all the comfy furniture were great. It really was perfect for us and brought us much joy. We all just loved it and hope to go back again!

Lovely lakeside cottage with comfy and stylish furniture (indoors and out). The kitchen is stocked with just about every cooking utensil and tool you might want. And the heated, glassed-in porch with big windows offers a view of Lake Gaston and added to the indoor living space during our Thanksgiving weekend stay.

It is perfect place for a big family get together. Highlights about our stay: -Plenty of beds. It accommodated a family of 8. 6 adults and 2 kids. -Roomy. My niece and nephew loved the fact there was so much space for hide and seek. :0) And games to play with. -the family played cards every night. -the fire pit was perfect. The host gave us a bucket full of goodies for s’mores. The kids’ favorite part was roasting marshmallows. We brought our own wood. And there was plenty of camping chairs for our little campfire. It was awesome -the best part of our stay was our thanksgiving dinner. Plenty of cooking wares to make all of our favorite dishes. We highly recommend staying in this beautiful house.

Great place to unwind by the lake. We booked this house for a long weekend getaway - three couples and 6 kids. There was plenty of room for us to spread out. The backyard was spacious for the kids to run around and everyone enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. The house comes with EVERYTHING. Fully stocked kitchen for any style of cooking or baking, games and toys for entertainment, camp chairs for outside... We even forgot our skewers for S’mores over the fire and found that they had plenty. We did have a few questions at various times throughout our stay and the host was super quick to respond no matter the time. Definitely recommend and would go back again.

Really great stay at a unique, old Tudor via Sears! Great communication from Karen and Marcos and everything was simple and straightforward. I was even offered coffee on my way out the door! Just what I needed during a brief stay for a local wedding.

Needed a place for the night instead of a hotel when travelling on I-95.Karen's place worked out great,I was able to check in a little early,felt like being at home right away. Very nice private room,comfortable bed,nice bathroom,kitchen,living room,deck,yard......all good.Easy on and off I-95 and easy to find. Very pleased. Cafe con leche via Marcos a very nice touch.

Karen and Marcos’ house is beautiful and the location is fantastic if you’re working in the area or looking for a nice place to stay! The hospitality was awesome and they make you feel so welcome from the start.

You can expect more than you pay for here, as Karen and her family put in all the extra touches to make you feel at home. Great location off of 95, cozy and comfortable, safe, and easy parking. Highly recommended, especially for traveling working professionals and extended rentals.

We booked for a last minute get-away, looking for a camping trip - these cabins were much easier to pick-up-and-go vs tent camping. Great place for the extra amenities - our toddler was entertained the entire time with yard games, fishing, and early morning hikes to the lake/beach area to get his energy out, plus many things we wish we had more time for! There’s a convenience store/gas station and dollar general very close if you forget any basic items.

My family reserved Jim & Joan’s cabin as a weekend getaway. We enjoyed our time fishing, playing the games, and having a bonfire. You will need to bring your own sheets, towels, toilet paper, and trash bags. Also leave time before check out to do your own cleaning as you are required to leave it the way you found it (sweeping, brushing off beds, washing the dishes).

Great place

Large, beautiful space with great views and amenities! Wonderful space for our large family to meet and spend a holiday together. We made meals for all, baked cookies, played games and everything is there to be used! Will definitely look into this place again!

Jan's house is absolutely breathtaking! The view, the decks and just the entire house was so clean and inviting. The kitchen was great, as we cooked everyday. The bedrooms were spacious and beds comfortable. The sectional was our place to retire too in the evening as it was large enough for us to all sit comfortably and even take a few naps. I would definitely recommend this house for large groups as you will have plenty of space to either spread out or congregate together. Will definitely stay here again.
