Great place if you're looking for a quiet stay out in the forest of eastern shore VA. Easy drive to Chatham Vineyards and other surrounding towns.

We stayed at Richard and Frances’ wonderful cottage for a long weekend and it was one of the most relaxing getaways we’ve had in a long time. The guest house had a great kitchen, grill, and outdoor table. We had two nights of incredibly peaceful bonfires at night. The bed is extremely comfortable and overall the interior is very cozy. There are numerous nature reserves and picturesque gardens within a half hour drive. We would definitely recommend this stay and hope to come back.

Richard's place is great, clean, quiet ... beautiful property with a few small trails you can walk on ... Richard was extremely helpful and responsive... very clean ... highly recommended!!!

Lovely unit! I stayed for a workweek to get some work-from-home peace and quiet! The unit has all the amenities you would want, and the bed is very comfy :) Richard is communicative and a very capable host, I would definitely visit again if in the area!

We enjoyed our stay at the Franktown Cottage. The place was comfortable, clean, and with reasonable distance to restaurants and various places to shop or visit.

Angus and Jax have a lovely home on a beautiful waterfront site. We brought our pup with us and I felt comfortable the entire time. The apartment is large (larger than my RVA apt.) and homey. They add nice touches such as fresh cut flowers and dishes/pots and pans so you can either eat out or cook in home. A lot of green space for you dog and it’s very quiet! We had some ants in the bathroom which can be an issue in the woods/springtime which I’m sure they will take care of. A really clean place and very comfortable! Oh yeah, they have dogs which I love dogs but our pup isn’t good with other dogs and they were very accommodating by putting their dogs up while we took ours in and out of the house. I know other reviewers mentioned being overwhelmed but if you tell Jax and Angus in advance about the dogs they will put them up! Benson, a large Great Dane, was a super host and loving good boy!

Dogs were amazing!

My husband, dog, and I spent a night here while we were exploring the area. The place was beautiful, inside and out. We didn't spend much time outside but had it been warmer would have loved to as it was surrounded by water and walking trails. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware that made it simple for us to cook our own meals while we were there. The bed was extremely comfortable. My dog was able to stay in the apartment while we went out for the afternoon and she had some running space outside which was great. The apartment was incredibly clean with lots of small touches including fresh cut flowers at the dining table. Would definitely stay again!

I like BIG DOGS and I can not lie!!! My wife and I were just getting away for an overnight stay somewhere and this fit the bill. We stopped by Cape Charles for a bit and wanted to get to the compound way before it got dark. Well, that didn't happen. However, it was not that difficult to get around after sundown. (as long as you have GPS) . It would be best to first get there during daylight. The compound is at the end of a long and winding road. You almost have to sing the song as you drive past the fields and farms. Once we arrived at the compound we were met by Angus and Jacs and a Great Big Great Dane. (Forgot her name) She makes herself known immediately. We eventually met the other two dogs. All are very friendly and lovely. It was great meeting both Angus and Jacs along with the dogs. (we used to have a big dog and miss her much, this was a nice reminder of her). The space was expansive and comfy cozy. We got comfortable immediately. The TV is stocked well with various subscribed services (Netflix etc.) The bedroom has a cute balcony with a bistro set waiting for coffee and a sunrise. The next morning we took a short walk to a long pier. This was our chance for photos. I took many. I hope they use them in their packet of pics. I only wish I could have taken pics of the dogs, maybe next time. All in all a good visit was had. We will certainly consider a return visit. Until then, Thanks again The Scotts

Angus's house is an isolated haven for the perfect getaway from city life for you and your dog(s). The long winding road off of the main highway keeps the cars and the noise very distant. The house is on a large property which also boasts a heavily wooded area, a very well-maintained clearing around the wooded area for walks, a large fenced-off area attached to the house for the dogs, and a wooden dock on the river. The entrance to the guest house is on the first floor, through the gate to the right. There is ample space for a car. Angus and Jacs received us when we checked, took down our details, and showed us to the house. There were blueberry muffins waiting for us! The house had a well-stocked kitchen, a living space with a dining table and a TV with Amazon Fire. The bedroom had a large, high bed and ample closet space. Angus has three large dogs that were happy to come out and play with my dog. I left the dog in the play area for a few hours to play with them and she seemed happy. The clearing around the wooded area is a perfect place le your dog run around in. As for doing other things, the nearest restaurant and store are a 15 min drive away so I would recommend packing some food before you drive over. Overall, my dog and I had a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it.

This was a peaceful staycation ... very beautiful, clean and relaxing atmosphere. We loved the scenery and privacy. Thank you.

Peace, quiet, and relaxing

Great cottage on beautiful property. We spent a lot of our time crabbing off the covered pier attached to the boat house. I was looking for complete seclusion but my wife was not. This was the perfect in-between. Pat was a great host & respected our privacy but was there if we needed anything. We didn’t get a chance to use the kayaks but they were there if we wanted to. Hope to return again. Can’t go wrong with this place.

This little garden house was everything we were looking for - quiet and peaceful, waterfront, and a place for us to relax. The property is stunning and maybe best of all, our host Pat was so awesome and willing to help us. We hope to see them again next summer!

I had to cancel my reservation early, so the most I can comment on is that Patrick is a fantastic host. He is very responsive and thoughtful. His home is very private at the end of a long street and overlooks the bay. The bed was comfortable and having a full fridge was a real perk. He also left breakfast pastries for us. I am sorry we couldn't stay longer.

I very much enjoyed may stay, it is a lovely spot in the world and my hosts were friendly and helpful. I hope to stay again and I highly recommend it to others!

Patrick's place was amazing and in a great location. We wish we could have stayed for our entire trip but due to an emergency had to leave early. Patrick was very accomadting with the changes and very easy to communicate with. I would recommend this place to anyone and we hope to go back and finish our vacation.

Patrick's place provided us the perfect way to enjoy exploring the eastern shore! The cottage was very cute and cozy, private, and beautifully situated right on the water. It is the ideal location for a weekend getaway for two! Patrick and his wife were very hospitable, and considerate in each aspect of our visit. The value is fantastic and I would go back again in a heartbeat.

Chelsea’s and Tyler’s cottage was insanely adorable and my husband and I had such a wonder stay for our anniversary. Chelsea was such a sweet and polite host, quick to respond, and made our check in a breeze! The cottage was spacious and quaint. The grounds were outstanding and beautiful. We highly recommend their cottage for a peaceful night away.

Chelsea and Tyler's space was amazing. We had a ton of fun and our little dog Huck had a great time as well. Chelsea was so extremely lovely and it was such a pleasure meeting her. Will definitely be back.

Most visitors to the Eastern Shore come, I think, because of Chincoteague and/or Assateague. That was certainly true for my wife and I who were celebrating our fortieth wedding anniversary. We chose to stay with Chelsea and Tyler because we thought it was the most charming place we could find anywhere on the Eastern Shore. They, and their cottage, absolutely lived up to our high expectations! Now, with that said, if Chincoteage is your overwhelming priority for visiting the Eastern Shore and you aren't fussy about where you stay, there are lots of accommodations closer than Machipongo. On the other hand, as first timers visiting Chincoteague, my wife and I were more swept away by the locations in the bottom third of the Eastern Shore that Chelsea suggested than we were with Chincoteague. We also visited Cape Charles and Onancock -- and they were incredibly charming and quaint towns. In short, staying at Chelsea and Tyler's place couldn't have been a more ideal place to explore the Eastern Shore. And, as a professional travel and landscape photographer (someone who stays in quite a few places), it's not only important about the area I'm visiting but the place I'm staying at.

Had an amazing long weekend getaway at Jd’s waterside rental. House and location couldn’t have been anymore perfect for a secluded and relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The house was sparking clean, WiFi worked great, and the available kayaks were awesome for exploring and fishing. Would definitely come back!

It was a gorgeous, secluded house right on the bay! The inside was spotless and had the coolest 70s vibe. My boyfriend and I need that peace and quiet before we dove into this school semester. We had to leave early on the last day but will hopefully return for a longer time. It was cozy and we had such fun cooking dinner while watching the sun set over the water. The bed was comfortable and it had everything we needed. We didn’t even want to leave the property! JD was quick and helpful. Thanks JD!

I was excited by the photos and description but this was by far THE BEST Airbnb I have ever booked. The views are breathtaking, it was a true creative paradise, and the space was impeccable. Every detail was considered and we felt right at home. We will definitely be returning.

This is a perfect getaway spot for a couple. The little house is truly secluded with beautiful views of the water and land. The house is even larger than it appears in the photos and has so much natural light. Genevieve is a great host, and we look forward to returning!

My girlfriend and I booked this location for a mini get away, to escape from our normalcy. All the fixtures were very up to date and modern. Very nicely renovated, cozy cottage on a beautiful piece of property. Secluded, quiet and peaceful. Simple, high quality and tasteful decor. Loved waking up to the view of the bay from our bed through the huge floor to ceiling windows. Love Donna’s place!

Donna’s place is a wonderful spot from which to explore the charming little town of Onancock and Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Donna is a very gracious, welcoming host who is always available for her guests. Her lodging has three bedrooms, a full kitchen and washer/dryer. It also includes a lovely backyard patio with plenty of space and furniture to relax; barbecuing is also available. The lodging also has Direct TV and WiFi. My wife and I have visited the Shore often and have consistently enjoyed Donna’s hospitality and lodging. Highly recommended.

Donna is always there, close by, when/if we needed anything. As you enter the house, some of the retro really takes you back in time. The location is great, walking distance to what we needed. Thanks Donna

My fiancé and I travel for work and stayed here for about three months. This space definitely exceeded our expectations! Not only is the location great (about 5 minutes away from shopping, the hospital, anything we would need) but it is set back from the road so it is nice and private as well! There is plenty of space in the front yard as well as a nice fenced in back yard. The house itself has more than enough room for the two of us as well as any amenities that we would need. The host is very responsive and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. Upon move-in there was a very thoughtful welcome basket, lovely decorations, and many pamphlets informing us of nearby restaurants and attractions. You could tell the host put in a lot of thought and consideration into making us feel comfortable. We had such a lovely experience that we decided to book again for our future stay! This is definitely a great place to be while staying on the eastern shore, highly recommend!

WONDERFUL! Short walk to private beach, short drives to popular destinations! We very much enjoyed how warm and welcoming thebeach was, it was perfect for our almost 16 month daughter! The rooms were very clean and we had everything we needed! There were printed off/laminated directions to popular spots, games, and a record player my husband loved! Will definitely keep on our lists of places we would come back to!

The space is large and location great for a quiet relaxing vacation. All amenities were as described. Rooms are bright and well furnished.

Nice place if you are looking for a quiet vacation. There are some local attractions about 15 minutes away. The private community beach is small, but uncrowded and only a two minute walk away. Nothing spectacular about the house, but it was comfortable, clean, and in good repair. Great value for the price!

My partner and I have stayed in Airbnbs around the world, and Erin is easily the best host we’ve ever had!! She is thoughtful and kind, and ensures her guests have everything they could possibly need. The apartment was also perfect for what we needed - a spacious bedroom, well-equipped kitchen, and space to both work from home when needed and veg out on the comfy couch. I highly recommend if you’re looking to spend quality time with friends, family, or even just yourself. My partner and I spent two weeks in this oasis, and this spot more than delivered. Our days were filled with working out on the private beach, walking along the forested roads/paths, grilling in the backyard, building bonfires, and watching sunsets over the bay. We even took the kayak out during sunset when we could, which was as wonderful as it sounds. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway, with a picturesque backdrop, I couldn’t not recommend this place more!

We had such a great time here. The location is perfect for those wanting to escape it all and relax. Erin also had a great selection of items in the garage to use, so we didn't have to worry about bringing a ton of extra supplies. It was absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to come back!

Simply the best place to stay! The room was extremely comfortable, filled with everything I needed including the best bed, fluffy towels, plenty of pillows, a great shower and all the amenities to boot. But even better, the restaurant and bar make this a fabulous place to stay! The atmosphere is beautiful and carefully designed to offer a special experience. The food is amazing (not your average fare) and sitting at the bar with an eclectic group of fun and interesting people made travelling alone a truly fun event. Sean is a lovely, gracious host who greeted me upon my late arrival and made me feel like an old friend. His team is equally kind and attentive. Don't pass this place up.

Onancock is a lovely eastern shore gem and Sean makes it a special getaway at a reasonable price in classic surroundings. Lots to enjoy with warm helpful staff. I definitely recommend staying here.

Make sure you eat at Maurice restaurant you will not be disappointed

We stopped in Onancock on way south...what luck to find the Maurice Inn. Had a very comfortable night after a delicious dinner at the Inn.. the food was creative, delicious and generous. We will absolutely stay here again. Oh, and there’s a Keurig, and a pot of fresh coffee in the AM...a few blocks away are the most delicious fresh donuts and pastries. Go and enjoy a great night!

Aaaadorable! Magical cozy experience in the beautifully crafted glamper... the quiet was beautiful. The sunrise was gorgeous. Thanks for such a great stay!

This place is great! The bathroom is separated from the Yurt as you’ll have to walk into the house for a shower or to use the bathroom . It’s very quaint and humbling. I personally loved the rooster that chimes in about 7am each morning, and if you show up late and can’t see, the cats will gladly lead you to the back door of the house. Enjoy!!!

Love it my place to chill

Christi’s place is off the beaten path which adds to its charm. Access to their own private beach, activities like kayaking, fishing, etc and beautiful sunsets make this a great spot for a getaway by the ocean. We loved it more as we were able to bring our pups along. Christi is a thoughtful host and does her best to make sure you have what you need. We can’t wait to be back!

We ventured to Silver Beach VA and Thelma’s Dawn unsure of what to expect. We spend five wonderful days with Christi and Rick. We had every amenity we could wish for on a quiet time away - Beautiful accommodations Unbelievable sunsets Lovely beach Fun golf cart to tool around in My husband and I spent much needed time away to find peace and serenity and Thelma’s Dawn fit the bill. Our pooch Ginger had a blast too. We highly recommend a visit to see Christi and Rick they are perfect hosts and are so very accommodating and friendly.

ThelmaDawn's is a gem and is very clean and secluded. While the hosts live next door you have complete privacy. Everything is provided and our hosts were gracious and accommodating. The back yard includes a beautiful private beach and they provide access to many activities including kayaks, fishing poles, etc. Our hosts, Christi and Rick are so friendly and are concerned that your needs are being met and you are enjoying your stay. If you are looking for a restful, calm and peaceful retreat we recommend ThelmaDawns. We will be back.

if you want to have one if the best experiences of your life, book your visit now with Christi and Rick. These two are amazing hosts. Christi taught my nephew how to ride a bicycle and within fifteen minutes or so, he was racing around on his own. She also took him out on the kayak to check the crab traps. Christi even offered to cook the crabs for us. Every day we picked fresh produce from their garden. The views here are spectacular with stunning sunsets every evening. The water is a few steps from your door and so warm and calm. This is truly paradise. We saw deer and turkeys every day. We enjoyed the koi pond and listening to the choir of bullfrogs singing every evening. We also loved seeing so many butterflies. My sister even had a bald eagle land on top of the golf cart parked next to her. Your hosts, Christi and Rick are amazing and go above and beyond to make sure your visit is all that you want it to be and more. Each of us loved our visit. We plan on returning too.

Christi s place is Amazing. We stayed an extra night (3 total) because my 6 year old daughter begged for one more day. It is so Wonderful and secluded and relaxing. The sunset, frogs, lightning bugs, birds, crabs, shells, golf carts, corn hole, hammock, private beach, southern hospitality . Its a tiny town with many huge farms. If you look their is So Much to see. We loved everything about it. Being away from the hustle and bustle. Her place feels very healing. And her huge Heart is felt. Great Energy! I felt very lucky for the Experience. Places like this dont exist anymore. Thanks Christi for sharing this Magical piece of the world ❤

Great host would definitely stay here again

Warm hospitality, a treasured century home. Clean room, with all the amenities of a hotel, but quiet and safe.

Jennifer’s turn-of-the-last-century house is in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to Onancock and various places along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. There are steps to navigate to the room and a trio of friendly dogs and a conversational cat. Bathroom is separate from room, but close by. I appreciated the location and Jennifer’s hospitality and would stay here again.

Jennifer is super sweet! She is always making sure that you have whatever you need. And the upstairs bedroom feels like a private apartment!

We had a great girls weekend at Kathy's place! We enjoyed the fact that we didn't have cell service and was able to relax and soak in the quietness. Kathy does have Wi-Fi which was great to be able to stream movies and imessage family when needed. The air was turned on for us before we arrived, and I was surprise to see two new window units. All the bedrooms were nice and cool for sleeping and the main unit kept the rest of the house cool (for us anyway). Overall we really enjoyed our time and stay at Kathy's place...and the private beach was nice as well. A few other neighbors joined us off and on at the beach but were polite and friendly, giving us ideas of things to do on the Eastern Shore. Thanks Kathy, we will definitely keep you place in mind for future vacations!

We a little vacation and had a blast very family friendly place amazing location great location for boat ride and crabbing, the house it’s great everything you’ll bring out with the family. Overall it’s it’s a great place for the right price, hopping to be back soon.

Kathy's House in Painter is a super-cozy location with great interior design details (behind-the-house fire pit, BBQ, private laundry room). The squeaky plank boards and the slightly crooked floor take you in a sympathetic way into the past time. The extensive equipment - which leaves nothing to be desired - makes the stay comfortable and pleasant. The road in front of the house leads a bit directly past, but the noise-insulating windows keep engine noise as far as possible outside - besides, one can enjoy the quiet hoof clatter of the Amish horse-drawn carriages. Full recommendation on our part!

The house was lovely, with the private beach only a short walk away, and it was a very comfortable place to relax after a long day at the beach :) Kathy was very understanding about the few minimal issues on my part, and this was just over-all a wonderful experience :)

Peace. And quiet. That's what you'll get here. We loved being off the grid. We loved the surprisingly roomy home (two living areas, large kitchen/dining area, three bedrooms, deck in the front and in the back). Beautiful park, dock, and small beach area a few steps away. Friendly (but not intrusive) neighbors. Lovely area with many little towns nearby to explore. About an hour south of Chincoteague and Assateague National Seashore. Totally relaxing experience--highly recommended!

Kathy's place is adorable! There's a record player with a bunch of great records and a beach right across the street you can use!

This little spot is so beautiful and quiet. We really enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts. We kept our social distance as required. The cottage is jam packed with wonderful music, books, games, and movies. We so enjoyed our time away.

Highly recommend this experience. Hector and his business partner Manolo were extremely knowledgeable on the subject of Mezcal. He welcomed us into his home and was very sociable - sharing wonderful personal anecdotes. It’s apparent he cares deeply about mezcal, it’s history and sharing it with others. Would definitely recommend.

Phenomenal. Quiet, clean, private, restful. A little piece of paradise right here. All cooking necessities (minus any baking dishes) supplied, its basically a small, self sustained home. If you are looking for noise and night scene, or to be disturbed, this is not the place for you. Conducive for an active healthy lifestyle. The hosts are great. Get to know them!

A wonderful cottage on a peaceful setting! We stayed here for a bike event on the eastern shore and everything was spectacular. Pamela and Jim provided some thoughtful touches to make our visit special and made a new friend named Bella. She seemed to particularly enjoy getting treats :) Thanks for a great weekend and we look forward to another visit. The Eastern Shore is quickly becoming our favorite getaway location.

Our group stayed at this home for a second summer in a row and it's perfect. The rooms offered many options for combining different people in our group. The house is very clean and the hosts are communicative. It's in a beautiful location as well. We were on the shore for work purposes and the house offered great spaces for being able to focus on our work as well offering more room for the members in our family who tagged along to relax.

This place is a revelation. I never stayed in such place so set in a period of history. Everything was from as if a period movie set. The antique Victorian furniture, the four poster beds, an artsy parlor complete with an upright piano and turn table and huge collection of vinyls dating back to 30's. a kitchen equipped with virtually everything anyone would need. The gazebo outside is also fabulous. The wide expanse of view and the starry nights in the country side adds to the experience.

Bluebird Cottage is incredible! We woke up every morning to an incredible sunrise over the water, went out for a quiet kayak ride, then hopped on our bikes to hang out at a nearby winery for the afternoon. Evenings were spent cooking and enjoying a wonderful meal of local fresh caught seafood while watching the sunset slowly over the bay. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to spend a weekend - this is the place! Eddie was an incredible and thoughtful host. He gave great advice on nearby things to do and explore and even took us out to harvest some fresh oysters and show us a secret sandbar beach. He really made us feel welcomed, and we can’t wait to come back again soon!

Just like the pictures, but they don’t do it justice. Pictures don’t capture the natural beauty and the serenity of the property. The amenities are as described and right at your finger tips. You can’t beat coffee on the dock in the morning. Priceless.

If you're looking for a peaceful home bad while you stay on the eastern shore this is it. Winery down the road, 25 min from a wildlife refuge, 20 min from cape Charles, and an osprey nest you can see from the cottage!

Bluebird cottage is a such a wonderful slice of heaven. Our host Eddie was so kind, genuine, accommodating, and generous with us. He made sure we were very comfortable and was available as a host and friend. This space is located next to Eddie’s beautiful home only a couple feet away from a breathtaking dock that looks out on the Chesapeake bay water. The dock has two cozy seats that are perfect for stargazing. You can tell that every decoration and part of bluebird cottage is done with love. The space is very warm and welcoming. The outside deck area is very peaceful and quiet and there is a table and chairs outside that overlooks the trees and nearby water. The cottage was equipped and luxurious with everything you could need: air conditioning, standing shower, clean kitchen stocked with essential spices and condiments, towels, candles, books, a guest book, WiFi, candles to repel bugs, and very sweet bluebird decorations. My boyfriend and I are already planning on coming back!

Perfect spot for some quiet private relaxation in a beautiful setting. Eddie was always available and responsive. The place is cozy and spotlessly clean. A wonderful experience.

This inn is truly such a relaxing and quaint escape. The energy and environment is relaxed and allows for slow wake ups. Sean provides amazing recommendations of what to do, places to go, and is overall incredibly helpful so that you have the best stay in this wonderful town. I cannot recommend this inn enough! And the restaurant is AMAZING!

What a great find! The Maurice Inn is a delightfully charming inn in the heart of Virginia’s eastern shore. Our room was spacious, cozy, sparkling clean, and comfortable. The decor is bright, cheerful, and inviting. Sean is an excellent host and has thought of everything right down to the mini fridge and Keurig in the room. The Maurice Restaurant and bar is an added bonus! Incredible French Thai fusion that’s out of this world was an unexpected treat after a long day of touring. I’d definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Had a wonderful experience at MJ's! We came down from DC to escape the city and explore somewhere new. The accommodations were immaculate, MJ's cooking and hospitality were wonderful, as were the other guests we met. I can't recommend the Laughing King highly enough; do yourself a favor and look no further when booking for your Eastern Shore getaway!

Fantastic location, quiet and very clean. With a very friendly host who had all sorts of tips. The breakfast and the coffee were always delicious. Little downer is the air conditioning centrally located on the floor. And the Americans like it a bit cooler. We would book again anytime.

While having lunch in Cape Charles, we were notified our accommodations to stay further north were cancelled due to overbooking. Luckily, the Laughing King had an opening and MJ was quick to respond and confirm our visit for two days. The property is very quiet and well maintained with beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. Although an older home, it is nicely updated throughout with very modern, clean and secured bedrooms and bathrooms. There was a wonderful quiche breakfast served each morning at 9 am and coffee was available at the touch of a button. I recommend waking early to watch the sun rise and not being afraid to use the fire pit on the premises. We love being outside no matter what the season and this place provided several options to enjoy nature and the outdoor surroundings. Upon arrival, We quickly made our way to the end of the pier to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The kitchen was available for us to cook a nice dinner which we ate on the enclosed screened porch. There was a full house but evidently everyone else had opted to go out for the evening. We spent the following day at Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve. It was about a 3/4 of a mile walk through the woods on a cleared path which led to a very remote white sandy beach. We took our beach chairs and stayed for the day. Other than a few others walking by, we had the entire beach to ourselves. We also visited Chatham Vineyards, The Island House Restaurant, The Oyster Farm Seafood Eatery, The Distillery, and Watched the Sunset from The Shanty during our short visit. We definitely recommend the Laughing King to others and can't wait to visit again in the near future.

This place is a small piece of paradise. My wife and I stayed here for a much needed anniversary getaway and it was exactly what we needed. A great mix of peace and quiet with plenty of outdoor activities nearby. The room and house was immaculate. We joked that a maid must walk around all day cleaning. The grounds were extremely well kept, which growing up on a 150 acre farm i can appreciate how much work goes into that. The private beach was a great added benefit which made for some romantic star gazing the first night. I can’t say enough about the host MJ. He was excellent and we feel like we made a new friend. He cooked breakfast each morning and we had some great conversation. He was great at bringing all the guest together over breakfast and it was like staying with a group of friends. He gave us some tips on where to go that even as frequent cape charles visitors we’d never heard of. The one piece of advice is to choose your room depending on what type of stay you’d like. If you want to be social and be around other guests stay in the house. The rooms are in close proximity of each other and the house is shared space so you will get to know the other guest quickly. If you want to have more privacy I would recommend staying in the tiny house. Both options are great but have different feels. Overall it was a great experience and we would t change a thing. Being only an hour away we will definitely be back on regular basis.

If I could give this place more stars I would! It was so breathtakingly beautiful!!! Not only was MJ a fantastic host but he made our stay so comfortable. If you’re getting married on the eastern shore and you have a well behaved bridal party this is defiantly the spot for you! The views are stunning and the homemade breakfast is amazing. Eric whom was also there to assist in our stay was fantastic! It really made my wedding weekend so very special! I’ll definitely be back!!!

I cannot say enough about how wonderful MJ’s place is! From the amazing food he prepared each morning, to the beauty of the surroundings whether inside or out, having the water right out back, the local tips he shared that were so extraordinary, and the incredible hospitality and kindness I received. By far the best AirBnB experience I have had thus far!!

We just left and I can’t wait to get back. I secretly don’t want to write a good review about this place because then I could keep it all to myself, but that would be selfish to deprive everyone else of this gem of a getaway. My husband and I came for the weekend and from the moment we arrived, MJ made us feel right at home. This place is gorgeous, and spacious, but at the same time so comfortable and cozy. When MJ said to make yourself at home, he really meant it and we really felt it. Our bedroom was warm, clean, and lovely, the bed very comfortable, and the bathroom big and beautiful! We didn’t hear a peep from our room the whole weekend and enjoyed sleeping in and sipping on the wonderfully strong coffee and delicious breakfasts MJ served us. Each night he had the backyard fire pit set up for us to relax by, which we thoroughly took advantage of. Bonus points for the lovable barn cat who befriended us and kept us company by the fire. MJ had great tips for restaurants and sight seeing. We also made dinner in the kitchen one night which was so much fun! We truly can’t wait to return.

Comfortable and laid back. The entire stay was relaxing and MJ’s breakfasts are not to be missed. The coffee is hot and delicious. Everything here was just like being at home, if your home had a beautiful view of the water, a small pier, a pool, two screened in porches, a fire pit, a pool table, a chef grade kitchen and lots of room to spread out. Location is off the beaten path, but that’s exactly what you want when you want to get away.

My wife and I stayed at The Laughing King for three nights, and everything was great. MJ is a great host, with no fear of butter and a hug for you when you leave. The house was really beautiful, and I can’t say enough about the environment. Softly lapping waves in the bay, bald eagles, and you can see the Milky Way on a clear night. Incredible.

We had a wonderful time and couldn't have picked a better spot to stay. We used the pool, the kayaks and had a fun, impromptu evening campfire with all the other guests. We couldn't have asked for more, but we also had delicious breakfasts and excellent ideas great places to visit and eat in the area. This was one of the best B&B's we've visited and that's over many years of experiencing these treasures.

Clancy's house is a fantastic getaway. We spent 2 weeks there with our boys 6 and 7 years old. We needed to get out of the city, and the kids loved kayaking, fishing and messing around in the mud. The House is located on a little cove with a 300 ft dock out to deeper water. We felt great about letting the kids go out on their own. The house is really nice and fully equipped for living. Everything you need in the kitchen and 2 grills on the deck. Clancy always responded within a few minutes to any questions. Regarding connectivity, the area is very rural and we didn't really get cell service except for one specific spot on the dock (4th piling). There is wifi through Hughes net which is a satellite provider so it worked great for email, etc but wasn't really sufficient for Zoom meetings. When we needed to for meetings, we drove to the walmart and there is good cell service there, about 15 minutes away. When I called Hughes net, they said that the system was overwhelmed by all the people working and schooling from home during COVID, so maybe it's better during normal times. We loved staying here and would love to come back sometime.

We were looking to stay somewhere off of the beaten path and Clancy’s place fit the bill. It was secluded yet close (10-15 minutes) to stores, restaurants and shoppes. Clancy has done a fantastic job of stocking the house with the basic amenities needed for everyday living! Although the weather wasn’t perfect, we were still able to enjoy the crab dock, deck and fire pit. We are looking forward to returning in the summer months to try out the kayaks and enjoy the space to its fullest.

Impeccably clean home with extremely comfortable beds and quality linens. Well stocked towels, kitchen organized and labeled. Amazing outdoor space with great roomy deck and fire pit with great chairs. Pictures do not do it justice. Great value and Clancy is quick to respond. Looking forward to trying his other property on our next drive down to OBX from NH.

M.J. was great! He is an amazing breakfast cook. We started our days out well fueled. The space was magical. We loved the peace and quiet. The house is large and welcoming. Our room had a really comfortable very large bed, a fun big shower and a great tub. The view was outstanding. We loved a little snuggle with the barn cat. M.J. gave us great local tips. We especially loved going to Eyre House garden.

You can expect nothing but the best at the Laughing King. The house and setting is beautiful, and MJ could not be a more knowledgeable and gracious host.

Wow! What a spectacular getaway! The Laughing King is drop-dead gorgeous, and MJ is a fabulous host. We stayed over during an unseasonably cool weekend, and MJ made sure his firepit was chock to the brim with wood throughout our visit. He cooked tasty breakfasts and regaled us with stories and tips. We and fellow guests all lingered longer, reluctant to leave the convivial conversation. If you want to be close to Cape Charles but not limit yourself to town, MJ’s place is the perfect getaway and jumping off point for all the other lovely places the Eastern Shore has to offer! Can’t recommend The Laughing King enough!!

Very nice, clean house on a neat property with horses. We enjoyed taking walks around the property and watching the horses, taking day trips to Chincoteague and Cape Charles, and just relaxing inside on rainy days. Great host for children. Our daughters enjoyed the toys and games available.

Heartsong Farms is the perfect place for your stay if you're looking for amazing hospitality and a well furnished, cozy and amenity driven home. It is obvious the owners have put tremendous thought into the enjoyment and well being of their guests. Even down to the youngest of members! The home is furnished with an elaborately stocked toy room and extra beds for your little ones, a well stocked kitchen and bathroom with a perfectly arranged living room and bedrooms. It is safe to say you will find everything needed to make your stay functional and comfortable!

Oasis This home is an oasis. Comfiest beds and linens and I swear the softest, luxurious blankets and furniture. My family of 7 stayed comfortably in this place for a week and didn’t want to leave! Our hosts were welcoming and so gracious- they even brought extra sheets when one of our infants became ill, and picked up the dirty sheets- what a blessing! So far above and beyond. Lots of small touches than turn this place into a luxurious oasis away from daily life. We stayed from Christmas Day until New Year’s Day and loved the Christmas decor, it was so cozy and warm. The patio and grill were fun to use even during winter! Many memories made on Chincoteague island.

By far the most beautiful accommodating place to stay!!

Sarah and Durbin have a beautiful home in a quiet serene setting. Walking each day to visit the horses or a hike on the property are bonuses to this quaint home. Super clean and very convenient to head to Chincoteague Island or see other bay attractions. Sarah and Durbin provided everything we needed to make our stay extra special, clean linens, coffee, and water! The 3 season porch is a lovely place to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. Terrific getaway for a chance to recharge and enjoy nature.

Beautiful charming space, right on the water - Close to town and great for a road trip of the eastern shoreboard! Went with a close friend and had both the main bed and the living room bed made up which was perfect. OHad a wonderful time in such a wonderful apartment - would recommend to anyone.

The apartment was very clean with a comfortable feel of home. A basket of snacks on the table with ideas of things to do in the area was a nice touch. We also really enjoyed using the kayaks and paddle boards out on the water in the morning. Thank you Channing and your husband for such nice accommodations.

We have stayed in many Air BnBs, both here and in Europe, and this is our best experience to date. The space was elegant and comfortable and in a beautiful setting. The hosts were superb, friendly and very helpful. We stayed a week and did not want for anything. There were snacks and toiletries, books and info on local attractions. We had breakfast in the room each day and had everything we needed to do so. I really can't say enough. Kudos to Channing and Chris.

The cottage truly offers a unique space, which we thoroughly enjoyed: a cozy gas stove, a lovely hand-built loft bed, and a groovy bathroom. One of the two porches (part of the cottage itself) and its rockers provide a phenomenal sunrise/water view location. M.J. could not have been a more attentive host, providing delicious breakfasts, conversations, and excursion tips. Also, the Laughing King Retreat is a great choice if you care about sustainability. Absolutely loved it!

We were looking for some quiet time away and we found it at the tiny house. MJ is the best - he made us feel at home immediately. We enjoyed reading on the porch of the tiny house and having drinks with other guests by the fire pit. We even cooked some wild mushrooms growing on the property in the main house's gourmet kitchen.

My wife and I just stayed in the tiny house, for our honeymoon. We had an experience we'll cherish forever. The house itself had so much character. The loft with the bed was the best part. MJ built the bed and bathroom himself, and they are the two biggest things that make this house special. The rooms in the main house are beautiful as well! The grounds have stunning views of the bay, plenty of kayaks and things to do outside. Inside the large house is a nice pool table. The most pleasant surprise for us, was the breakfast! MJ must be a world class chef in his spare time, because his food was phenomenal. He also was so pleasant to talk with and share stories with. I cannot recommend MJ's place and food and service enough. We can't wait to visit again!

Honeymoon Island Cottage was such a treat for two tiny-house-loving folks like us! Located on an unbelievable property with beautiful views and excellent amenities, it was exactly what we expected and more. MJ was an excellent host, communicative with lots of local tips while still respecting our space. Cape Charles is a lovely town, and our interesting accommodations were the icing on the cake of our trip!

Sean's place was very nice. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The restaurant Maurice is a fabulous place. We had reservations and just went downstairs to be treated to one of the best dinners both my husband and I ever had.
