Private room located at the back of the house with a shared bathroom and separate entrance.

The space
This is a peaceful space focused on environmental sustainability and a love for nature. A solar PV system, rainwater collection cisterns, grey water systems connected to the outdoor shower, bath, sink, and washing machine (which water native plants and citrus trees), low water use, and recycling are some of the ways that we reduce the use of natural resources and nurture the environment. Native plants in both the front and back yard attract local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, and lizards.

If you enjoy your privacy and the opportunity to meet other travelers this space might be a good fit for you. There is another other Airbnb guest room in the back yard, and a long term tenant in the front section of the house.

This room is a great fit for people who enjoy the outdoors. In the backyard you have access to an outdoor shower, bath tub, and sinks that are all plumbed with hot water. These amenities are shared with one other Airbnb guest room.

The outdoor kitchen is shared with one other guest room and includes a gas stove, microwave, blender, dishes and cooking utensils, bins for storing dry food, toaster, coffee grinder, french press, and a table. There is a mini fridge and microwave in your room.

You do not have access to an indoor kitchen.

The outdoor kitchen is directly outside your room and is shared with the guests staying in the detached room in the back yard. I encourage all guests to foster a peaceful and quiet environment, but you will most likely hear other guests when they are using the outdoor kitchen.

You share a full bathroom located directly across the hall from your room with one other guest room. Due to the proximity to your room you will most likely hear guests opening and closing the back door and the bathroom door to access the bathroom.

If you prefer more separation from the shared outdoor kitchen and bathroom, you may want to consider staying in the Unattached Room.

The indoor bathroom was recently added and requires an ejector pump for the toilet to function. This means only human waste and toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet. Everything else must be put in the trash (floss, feminine hygiene products, condoms, paper towels, etc) or the pump will get clogged requiring a plumber and the loss of your deposit.

There are certain ingredients found in many conventional bath and shower products that can't be used in the outdoor shower, bath or sinks because they are harmful to the plants that the grey water system feeds. I do provide products that you can use during your stay and I can give you a list of the prohibited ingredients. You can use any products you would like in the indoor bathroom.

There is a shared washing machine located outside, and a clothesline. There is also a collapsible clothes drying rack in your room. There is not a clothes dryer.

I am looking for quiet and peaceful people who are conscious of their carbon footprint. Please make yourselves comfortable, but don't run the AC or heater with windows open, and turn them off or to low when you are out.

No smoking is allowed in the room or the backyard. You can smoke on the front sidewalk or front section of the driveway.

If you are watching a movie or listening to music in the outdoor common area or while your windows are open please wear head phones. This ensures a quiet atmosphere for everyone.

Bus transportation is 3 blocks away.

Tucson, Arizona, United States

It is a diverse working class neighborhood, so if you are expecting a more affluent environment or gated community this home is probably not the best fit for you. There are two churches, a park, an elementary school and mini markets, and several restaurants all within a couple blocks.

I came to Tucson in 2002 and immediately fell in love with the Sonoran Desert. I love to hike and explore the outdoors so let me know if you are are looking for a good outdoor adventure! I love exploring new places, meeting locals and other travelers, and experiencing how locals live. This is the first house I owned and it has a very special place in my heart. When I travel I love finding unique places to stay that offer both privacy and an opportunity to meet other travelers. I am excited to offer my home to travelers so they can experience a sustainable approach to desert living that balances communal living and privacy. I live 3 miles away and am available to help answer any questions you have and make sure your stay is comfortable.
