"The Tin Shack" is a beautiful container-built cabin situated on a hill behind the West Coast town of St Helena Bay. The cabin overlooks the entire bay with the majestic Cederberg mountains in the distance. It has two ensuite bedrooms, each with a shower, basin, and compost toilet. The spacious open plan kitchen/living area has a cast-iron woodburner fireplace which makes the cabin warm and cozy even in winter. The spacious deck has a Weber BBQ, outdoor seating, and a woodfired hot tub.

The space
The interior is minimalist and has an industrial look, but beautiful clean finishes have not been compromised. In line with the hosts' concern for the environment, each bathroom has a dry, bucket system, compost toilet for water conservation and waste recycling. We are collecting as much rainwater as possible and all greywater is also recycled for the garden. The cabin is situated on a smallholding with natural vegetation, abundant birdlife including birds of prey such as kestrels and eagles, and small wildlife like mongoose, francolin, guineafowl, tortoise, and the occasional duyker roaming free. It is the perfect spot for escaping technology, reading a book, or relaxing in the hot tub or hammock while watching the world go by. In the right season and equipped with a pair of binoculars, whales and dolphins can be seen playing in the bay.

Please take note that this is not a beach property. It is all about the view and calm and relaxed atmosphere. The local beaches are not far away, but driving there will be necessary. Local activities and attractions are, for instance, flamingo spotting and feeding of pelicans in Veldrif, a visit to the picturesque and well-known village of Paternoster, guided kayak trips, and the West Coast Fossil Park.
