This 2-bdrm 1 bath cottage has a full kitchen, living room, front porch with rocking chairs, outdoor grill, firepit, and hammock under the trees. Guests have access to 706 acres of hike and bike trails, fabulous birding and photography opportunities, fishing pond, cattle-call, miniature donkeys, and stargazing platform, and the peace and beauty of South Texas nature.

The space
We're off the beaten path - 22 miles from the nearest town. We received the Lone Star Land Steward Award from Texas Parks & Wildlife in 2004 for our conservation practices and land restoration efforts. We're on the flyway for many migrating bird species from sandhill crane to wood stork, bunting, groove billed ani, etc. etc.

Guest access
Guests can enjoy the 706 acres of hike and bike trails, fishing pond, stargazing platform, miniature donkeys, cattle-call and fabulous birding! Or, they can just enjoy the peace and quiet our place in the world affords.

Other things to note
Goliad is 22 miles away, and is a must-see beautiful historic Texas town. Its courthouse square is full of great shops and locally-owned restaurants. Don't miss the Goliad State Park and its Mission Espiritu Santo, and the Presidio la Bahia. Rent a kayak and paddle the beautiful, natural, San Antonio River. Our favorite Saturday outing for the family and friends is to Goliad Brewing Company - where they're crafting fabulous brew in an park-like atmosphere, complete with outdoor games, live music, dancing, fire pit, and even guided nature hikes on the 50+ acres.

We are a family owned and operated ranch, and my husband Wilfred Korth and I live "just around the bend" from this guest house compound. This concept of sharing the ranch with guests is a fairly new one in Texas, and we're finding it's a wonderful way to meet new and interesting people. It's also a great way to diversify income stream, because if you don't have an oil well in Texas (and we don't), it's not always easy to keep your land. Ours is a special place: we manage the ranch for wildlife, while also running a small herd of cattle and mediterranean miniature donkeys! The donkeys are gentle animals, and our guests love them most of all. On arrival to the ranch we like to give guests a quick overview of their home and a map of the ranch property. We want you to feel comfortable here, so are happy to take you on a tour of the property, then set you free to enjoy the place as if it were your own. Guests are always welcome to interact and participate in the ranch activities - help us call in the cows, brush and feed donkeys, whatever makes you happy!

During your stay
We live on the property about 1/4 mile away, and invite guests to participate in some of our day to day chores, including calling in the cattle. We respect privacy, however, and want our guests to feel like they're alone in their country home if they prefer that.
