De Vrede is an authentic and characterful house in McGregor... ideal for couples or small families. The house is situated in the heart of the village, on a big, private piece of land... so you'll truly experience the tranquility of the Little Karoo!

The space
De Vrede (which means 'the Peace') is a spacious historic old farmhouse in McGregor... one of the oldest in the village... on a big farmstyle plot.

Originally built in the 1860’s, its thick adobe walls, reed ceilings and thatched roof are perfect natural insulators against the heat and cold of the Little Karoo.

The house is situated in the heart of the village, between Temenos Retreat Centre (a 2 min stroll) and the Krans Nature Reserve... and within easy walking distance to all shops and restaurants.

De Vrede has a very private garden with magnificent birdlife, and lies on a big 4500sqm plot... with a leiwater dam (not suitable for swimming) and many established olive, fruit and nut trees.
The garden around the house is well maintained, but the orchard area and the greater garden is left completely natural and wild, with only the trees being irrigated. (If you're after a perfectly manicured garden, de Vrede isn't for you!)

The house is rustic, with a farmhouse character.

One bathroom is en-suite. The 2nd bathroom is accessed through the kitchen.

The rate is for 2 people sharing 1 bedroom. If you'd like to use the 2nd bedroom, there will be a (once-off) surcharge of R200.

There are some excellent and very special restaurants, wineries, and a beautiful retreat center to visit.
