Our Roots is set within the rugged beauty of a wildlife conservancy known as Marloth Park on the banks of the Crocodile River, which forms the border between Marloth Park and the world renowned Kruger National Park, between Malelane and Komatipoort in the Province of Mpumalanga, South Africa. This is a charming double storey house with 2 bedrooms and an additional loft bedroom fitted with most mod-cons and comfortable outdoor spaces to make for a breakaway of absolute relaxation.

The space
Being a wildlife conservancy, homes are not fenced and wildlife, reptiles and insects roam free. Guests will have exclusive and unique game-viewing opportunities, literally on your doorstep. The Crocodile Bridge Gate to the Kruger National Park is a mere 25km away from the house which offers even more opportunities for a game-viewing experience unique to South Africa.

This really is an experience of tranquility and reconnecting with nature away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Peace and quiet are at the order of the day unlike a typical holiday resort and for that reason no parties or loud music is allowed in terms of the Park Rules. Even loud conversations and laughter travel far - specially at night time and we request that you please be considerate for those around you who have come to enjoy the tranquility of Marloth Park and those who stay here permanently. The house is relatively small and compact and although we don't exclude children younger than 12 from our booking requirements, we do need to mention that it is not a particularly child friendly house. For the same reason, please note that no exceptions whatsoever will be made to the maximum capacity of 6 people, children included, that the house can accommodate.

Where you’ll be

Marloth Park, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Marloth Park is, as mentioned, a nature conservancy. It is not a typical holiday resort and in fact is registered as a town with many permanent residents. It is not a gated community nor an estate as one would find in the cities. Both entry gates to the Park are access controlled and the Park is known to be relatively safe compared to other areas of our country. However, no guarantees are given in this regard and guests are required to familiarise themselves with the Safety Guidelines that will be shared by the hosts on confirmation of a reservation.

Notwithstanding the convenient location for entering the Kruger National Park for a day trip, a drive through the roads of Marloth Park will offer many sightings. You may even be lucky and get to see the beautiful giraffes that roam in certain parts of the park. There is also a viewing point on the fence on the banks of the Crocodile River overlooking the Kruger National Park and various other seating areas scattered along the fence, which runs parallel with Seekoei Road.

There are various lodges and restaurants throughout the park should you want to go out for a meal including, Jabula Lodge, Phumula Kruger Lodge, the Tin Shack and the Amazing River View Restaurant, the latter being set in a particularly beautiful location with spectacular views of the Crocodile River and Kruger National Park and is the perfect place to go and enjoy a cocktail at sunset.

A map of the park is available in the information folder in the house to guide you on your travels in the park. With the exception of the main road running through the conservancy, all other roads are dirt roads and accessibility with a normal sedan car may be problematic, specifically after heavy rainfall.

Both Ngwenya Lodge, situated approximately 9km outside of Marloth Park on the road to Komatipoort and the Kambaku Golf Course on the outskirts of Komatipoort also boast lovely restaurant in beautiful settings, also on the banks of the Crocodile River with stunning views of the Kruger National Park.
