Ideal for small groups, small families or couples, The Space has a homely and comfortable feel, with a squashy couch, kelims on the floor and art prints and originals on the walls.

The cottage is a spacious 2 bedroom self-catering cottage semi-detached from our house and on the same property as my pottery studio, with it's own entrance, off street parking for 1 car and it's own natural pool. It is situated in the quiet part of the village, a stones throw away from the Krans Nature Reserve.

The space
The space has an arty, bohemian feel. It is a space that feels inviting and unique when you walk in the door.

Inside:
Living area
There is a piano as well as a bookshelf loaded with all sorts of books from sheet music to novels and lots in between. There is also a selection of board games and cards. There is a wood burning stove, and you’ll be provided with a starter basket of wood (more can be bought in the village). As you can see in the pics there is a comfy lounge and a dining table that seats 4-6.

Kitchen
The kitchen has a kettle, toaster, gas stove and a microwave but no oven. Tea and instant coffee are provided as well as a french press and stovetop Bialetti to make coffee but you'll need to bring your own filter coffee. Salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic are also provided as well as all basic cooking utensils.

Bathroom
There is one bathroom with a bath and a shower which is en suite to the double bedroom but can be accessed from the hallway through the shower. There is also a separate guest loo. Towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided.

Bedrooms
There is a double bedroom (with the en suite bathroom) and a twin bedroom. The beds are made up with 100% percale cotton linen and plush blankets and electric blankets in winter. There are ceiling and standing fans provided in summer as well as mosquito nets.

Oustide:
There is a front patio and front garden space with gorgeous morning sun. There is a brand new, natural (chemical free) plunge pool. Swimming towels are provided. There is a small lawn space and a fire pit/ braai area (provided wood can be used here too). This space is fenced in and is totally your own while you are here.

There is a vegetable garden in the front of the property in the shape of a simple labyrinth. Please feel free to use this space; you can walk the labyrinth or sit on the chairs in the centre and watch the dog walkers go by but you may bump into us there, tending to or watering the plants. If you are sitting there we won’t disturb.

Servicing (For longer stays)
If you are here for longer than 7 nights the cottage will be serviced once a week, unless you request otherwise.
There are no laundry facilities in the house but the laundromat is a 2 minute walk away.

Guest access
The cottage's garden has been fenced in, this along with the plunge pool are completely yours - we will never come into this space while you are here. The vegetable garden at the front of the property is a shared space. You are most welcome to walk the labyrinth or sit in the chairs in the centre but you may bump into us there, watering or tending to the plants. Our entrance is next to yours so you may also bump into us arriving or leaving.

Other things to note
**Because the cottage is semi-detached you may hear (normal village neighbour sounds - we are quiet but not non-existent) or see us. For more info read the 'guest access' and 'guest interaction' sections.
-Horses sometimes graze on the neighbouring field.
-If you are here to do some work and would like a more comfortable desk chair one can be provided.
-Please let me know if you need the crib and I will set it up for you before you come.
-If you need any extras/ have any special requirements please don't hesitate to ask and I will do my best to accommodate or advise.

McGregor, Western Cape, South Africa

Mcgregor is a small village best suited for a quiet weekend away. It is the ideal place for a writers retreat if you are looking for a place with wide open skies to unlock that writer's block, or work on your thesis. Its also great for a group of friends or for couples looking to spend some quality time together.

The Space is a stones throw away from the nature reserve which is wrapped around the village and there are lots of walks and cycle routes you can do from here. It is situated in a quiet part of the village off the main road but is still within walking distance from restaurants and shops.

There are no supermarkets here. There is a small shop called Made in McGregor which sells local produce and health foods, its open from 9am - 3pm every week day (closed Wednesdays) Saturdays from 10am and Sundays from 10am - 12pm. There are also three small convenience stores/cafes which sell a few basics like tinned food and cheap bread and pasta etc. Wood can be bought at the convenience store attached to the petrol station (cash only). The Saturday morning market is a great place to find freshly baked bread and home grown organic produce. It is a small market and is over quite quickly so I recommend getting there around 9/9:15am to avoid disappointment. There are also only two ATMs here, Standard bank and Absa bank.

Robertson is a larger town about 20 mins drive away which you drive through to get here and they have supermarkets and ATMs and whatever else you might need for while you're here.

There are restaurants and coffee shops here but if you are planning to eat out in the evenings best book in advance to avoid disappointment - My Guidebook has a list of places I recommend for eating/drinking.

I moved to Mcgregor from Cape Town at the beginning of 2016 to learn and work at Millstone Pottery. I fell in love with the village and in March of 2017 I bought a house with a studio space. I spend my days here in the studio, I also teach a weekly pottery class and host weekend workshops. I have created a space here that I would love to share with you. Perfect for small groups of friends who just need some time away from busy city lives. I can be as involved or uninvolved in your stay as you would like.
