We had a great time! Kathleen thought about all the little things and we didn’t want for anything. The views were fantastic on the deck, we sat out there often. The living quarters were beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful time.

it was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. My husband and I stayed here for our 2nd anniversary. We felt refreshed and at peace. The sauna and hot tub were definitely a pleasure. My favorite night was when I was in the hot tub and it was raining on the tin roof. so relaxing. If we ever go back I will definitely want to stay there again

Lakehome with HotTub Fireplace Theater & Game Room

JDRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
This place is awesome! It rained most of the time we were there, but with all the amenities there was plenty for us to do around the house. The dock is awesome, and it’s on a nice, quiet, spot on the lake. We hope to be back in the future!

*Guest Cottage, *Hot Tub* Loft style sleeping

AndreaRating, 5 stars3 days ago
The house was immediately welcoming upon entry with plenty of space for a large family gathering (though we arrived as only three of us). The massive table and kitchen was well laid out. The upstairs was a fun set up with its five or six different beds. We all got to choose the one that fit our personalities the best (and there were plenty of options to choose from). This morning before checking out we saw some baby deer frolicking and chasing each other around outside in the trees while we drank our coffee. If we have the opportunity we will absolutely rent this place again for another family trip. Thank you Amanda for the perfect little experience in the middle of our road trip!

DanielRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Lovely place. Super clean, spacious, extremely close to the trailheads for McAfee Knob and Dragon's Tooth. The stream was beautiful and it was great to be able to wade into it on stones. The kitchen was well-stocked and the house generally comfortable and cute.

Unique Historic Home

ElizabethRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Elizabeth was so helpful and accommodating with our evolving arrival situation and a change in our pet situation. She made our arrival so much less stressful! The place is a great location, peaceful and quiet, but very close to downtown. The neighborhood is lovely, and right across the street from Evie’s which is a fabulous bakery and bistro. If you are traveling with pets, the set up is wonderful. It’s spacious and easy to have your pets there. There is also a desk and working area if anyone needs to “work from home” while traveling. The beds were also quite comfortable. Elizabeth’s place is a quaint, unique, historic building that gives you a great SW Roanoke experience while traveling with your pets!

Hari and Karl's tiny house is the perfect escape. Everything was planned out so that you want for nothing. The house is charming and cozy with a very comfortable bed and all the amenities you could want. There were copious instructions for everything, a wonderful variety of local information, and I felt right at home. I'm so glad I found this house and was able to stay for a couple nights. Highly recommended!

Tiny house & hot tub, w/gorgeous mountain views!

MechaylaRating, 5 stars1 day ago
My fiancé & I stayed here the night before he proposed along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it was such a magical, comfortable stay with beautiful views & privacy. We loved watching the three frogs in the cute little pond in the evening before spending some long-awaited time in the hot tub surrounded by tons of fireflies and stars. This stay has now become a core memory for us and we will definitely be back!

Cross Creek Luxury Couples Cabin

Jenifer NicoleRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This is the most amazing cabin and piece of property! My husband and I went for a long weekend and I wish we would have booked an entire week. I definitely want to keep coming back. Check in was super easy and everything about this cabin was top notch and extremely clean. Beautifully decorated, and what a nice touch to have homemade baked treats waiting for us on the kitchen counter. The furnishings are beautiful and such a comfortable bed. The setting of this place can’t be beat. The cabin is built over top of a running creek and we loved just sitting outside by the fire pit and listening to the creek each night. We were truly blown away at how nice the cabin and property are. It’s definitely a slice of paradise!

The little carriage house at Bent Oaks Manor is super cute and comfortable. It has everything we needed for a one night stay before heading back to our home. Everything was thoughtfully arranged and clean. The location is very nice and private. Chelsea was a proactive host sending a message regarding check in and check out. The bed is very comfortable, and we would definitely stay again!

Your guide to Roanoke

All About Roanoke

Surrounded by the unspoiled beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Roanoke is the largest city along the world-famous Appalachian Trail — a major draw for visitors to this area of Southwest Virginia. During Prohibition, the area was known as the Moonshine Capital of the World. Craft breweries, wineries, and distilleries are still a local fixture here, and you can make your way along Virginia’s Blue Ridge Cheers Trail to get a taste of the scene.

Roanoke is a mountain-biking haven. Whether you’re a newbie looking for a half-hour ride at Carvins Cove or a pro in search of a full day’s adventure at Mill Mountain Park, there’s a trail for everyone. Alongside its outdoor attractions, Roanoke is also an artistic community. You’ll find plenty of musicians and actors performing live while painters and sculptors stock the region’s galleries, boutiques, and museums, including the futuristic-looking Taubman Museum of Art with its 77-foot peaked glass atrium.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Roanoke

The best time to book Roanoke vacation rentals is in the fall, when you can expect pleasant temperatures and foliage exploding with color. There are also two big festivals nearby in September. Olde Salem Days in downtown Salem is one of Virginia’s largest arts and craft festivals and includes live music, food, and classic cars. The Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival showcases wineries in the region and the Shenandoah Valley.

December through February, temperatures hover around freezing, which makes the ice skating rink in Elmwood Park a popular place. Hot summer days see many kayakers on the many rivers in the area, along with scenic hikes in mountains and parks — just remember to bring sunscreen and plenty of water.

Top things to do in Roanoke

Natural Bridge State Park

A road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of the most scenic routes in the United States, with plenty to see along the way. Less than an hour north of Roanoke, stop off at Natural Bridge State Park to walk under the main feature, a 215-foot-tall rock arch above the Cedar Creek Nature Trail, and learn about the area’s heritage at the Monacan Indian Living History Exhibit, a re-created interpretive village.

Smith Mountain Lake

Around an hour southeast of town, Smith Mountain Lake is a popular summer destination, where you can admire the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains from the water. Rental services offer equipment for water-skiing, fishing, and sailing, or you can simply cruise along on a pontoon. If you’re staying on dry land, there are golf courses, restaurants, and shops within easy reach.

Upper James River Trail

More than 50 miles of the Upper James River have Virginia Scenic River status, boasting placid waters as well as Class I and II rapids. Launch from Buchanan, a 30-minute drive from Roanoke, where you can rent fishing gear, get kitted out for a relaxing day’s tubing, or book a guided trip. Look out for herons at the water’s edge and bald eagles overhead.
