Service and experience listings on Airbnb are vetted to help guests book with confidence. This may include verifying identity, reviewing license documents when required, evaluating ratings and reviews on third-party websites, and assessing qualifications of individual hosts (including co-hosts).
Services and experiences must meet Airbnb’s standards and requirements, both when the listing is submitted and on an ongoing basis. Airbnb periodically evaluates and updates its standards and requirements as part of its ongoing commitment to quality. If the host or any part of the listing does not meet the standards and requirements, certain claims may be removed from the listing, the listing may not be published, the listing may be suspended or removed, or the host may be removed from Airbnb.
To help build trust with guests, all hosts and new co-hosts must complete Airbnb’s identity verification process to publish or be added to a listing. Business hosts hosting experiences must also conduct identity checks on their personnel that host reservations. This may include verifying certain personal information, such as legal name, address, phone number or other contact details.
If the service or experience involves activities that require specific licenses, hosts may be asked to provide documentation of valid and up-to-date licenses related to the service or experience they will be hosting (examples: massage therapist license or driving license). Business hosts hosting experiences may be asked to provide documentation of valid licenses for their business, as well as appropriate individual credentials that apply to their personnel that host reservations.
In these situations, hosts may receive a notification (in their email and in the Airbnb app) to submit these documents to our third-party provider, Evident. Airbnb or Evident will review a host’s licenses, and, as part of confirming the license information, may reach out to the licensing authority that issued it. You can learn more about licensing requirements here.
Hosts initially have 30 days to submit documents to Evident for verification. If Evident is unable to review a document, hosts will have one more chance to resubmit before their listing is declined.
If licenses expire, the host may be required to submit updated documents to continue listing their service or experience on Airbnb.
When a host submits their service or experience listing, Airbnb will review the listing submission to determine whether it meets our standards and requirements. Airbnb reviews information provided by hosts during the onboarding process and we may, in some cases, partner with third-party providers that help us vet certain host qualifications. We consider criteria like years of experience, education, certifications, awards, strong portfolios, creative offerings, and guest reviews.
As part of this process and consistent with our privacy policy, Airbnb or its third-party providers may:
Hosts should not include claims in their listings that they do not want Airbnb or its third-party providers to review.
If your listing shows Action required, it means that we need additional info from you to complete the review process for your service or experience listing. Find out how to complete actions that are required to publish your listing.
After we determine that a host’s listing is qualified for our platform, we may perform additional checks to assess whether it continues to meet our standards and requirements. For example, we regularly evaluate ratings, reviews, and other quality signals to help confirm that hosts follow our host ground rules for services and experiences.
Significant updates to an active listing, such as changes to the location, offerings, updates to the host’s employment history, education, or awards, may require another review by Airbnb before the updates can be published. Learn more about editing a service or experience listing.
