How Airbnb supports accessibility

To make it easier for people with disabilities and other accessibility needs to travel on Airbnb, we've taken action to make our website and app more accessible, and created ways for Hosts and guests to showcase and search for accessible spaces and Experiences.

Accessibility in our website and app

In collaboration with Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Level Access, we're researching how people with limited vision use screen access technology on our website and app. We've learned a lot about what's working and what isn't, and we've created a team dedicated to educating our engineers and designers about building online experiences that everyone can use.

Spaces with accessibility features

Hosts can highlight features of their home that make it more accessible for guests who use wheelchairs, canes, or other mobility aids. If a home already has things like step-free route to the outdoor entrance or doorways wider than 32 inches, Hosts can add these as features to their listing. Additionally, Hosts are required to upload photos to the accessibility section of their listing pages to show each accessibility feature they have selected. This helps guests determine whether the listing will meet their needs. All accessibility features are required to meet our guidelines for clarity and accuracy. Learn about our guidelines and how to add accessibility features.

Guests can filter search results by accessibility features, such as a step-free shower or an entrance without steps, so they know the place will be a good fit. Learn how to search for listings with accessibility features.

We also encourage Hosts to review available government agency resources and contact an expert for advice about any legal or regulatory requirements that may apply to their listings. For example, in the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state disability access laws may apply to certain Hosts. The ADA National Network and its regional ADA centers may also be able to help Hosts with questions.

Additionally, in the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state disability access laws may apply to some Hosts with five or more listings. We encourage Hosts to visit ada.gov and contact an expert who can advise you about your listings. The ADA National Network and its regional ADA centers may also be able to help Hosts with questions.

Experiences with accessibility features

Hosts can highlight features of their Experience that make it more accessible for guests with accessibility needs. If Hosts can communicate in sign language or provide a quiet retreat space for guests, they can add these features to their Experience listing. For any accessibility feature added, Hosts are required to provide a detailed description of the feature that meets our guidelines for clarity and relevance. Learn about our guidelines and how to add accessibility features to an Experience listing.

Guests can filter search results for Experiences by using the accessibility filters. For example, guests can search for Experiences with an accessible bathroom or where the guest knows sign language. Learn how to search for Experiences with accessibility features.

Additionally, Hosts can opt in to allow individuals supporting guests with disabilities to join an Experience at no additional cost. Find out more about Access Provider pricing.

Service animals

We recognize that service animals are not pets, and that they serve a critical function for their owners. A Host is required to accept a service animal (even if they don't allow pets), except for limited health and safety reasons. Learn more about service animals.

Nondiscrimination Policy

Our community is built on the principles of inclusion and respect, and we don't support discrimination of any kind on Airbnb. Learn about our Nondiscrimination Policy.

We understand that not all homes or Experiences will meet a guest's needs, but Hosts can't turn a guest down just because the guest has a disability. Please report any kind of discrimination you encounter on Airbnb.
