The Appalachian Trail (McAfee Knob), Smith Mountain Lake, James River, and Carvin Cove reservoir are also close. Feel close to nature while being close to conveniences of shopping and nice restaurants just down the mountain in Salem and Roanoke. One bed/bath with a pull out sofa in living room. Pet friendly! Amazing handcrafted cabin located in the center of the "Roanoke Triple Crown" (McAfee's Knob, tinker cliffs and dragons tooth trails) just minutes from each trail head. Cabin is tucked away from everything. No other houses can be seen from the cabin. The cabin overlooks a beautiful pond with a small waterfall cascading in. Cabin was sustainability built with trees from the 20 acres it sits on. McAfee's Knob trailhead is 10 minutes away, Andy Layne trailhead to tinker cliffs is 9 minutes away.

The Magical Cabin on Back Creek

Magic is the word most people use when they visit this hidden gem. Built in 1939 as a fishing cabin by a gentleman who incorporated box cars as rafters and beams, dates still visible since removing the attic. By far the best place I've ever lived. I decided to share it with others who love to explore, who love listening to the voice of the creek or who come just to sit on the porch high above the creek with a spouse, friend, family, or alone. The original log cabin was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). These cabins were built after the Blue Ridge Parkway was laid in 1935, which is just down the street. With love and attention our cabin's renovations were complete in 2017. We kept the original log walls to add a rustic feel to the contemporary, crisp clean decor. The cottage overlooks the babbling waters of Back Creek but is just a 5 minute drive to the grocery store, private yet convenient.

We stayed at this beautiful cabin for our anniversary, and it exceeded every expectation. Jeff was extremely responsive, welcoming, and clearly thoughtful in every detail. From the soft linens and kitchen seasonings to the handwritten note and thoughtful anniversary gift, everything felt curated with care. It was the perfect spot to unwind, reconnect, and celebrate. We had an amazing stay at Dave’s place for my VT graduation. The house is stunning, with every detail thoughtfully considered during the renovation. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and I’m now inspired to buy the same couch for my own home. The location is perfect—just a 13-minute drive to downtown Roanoke and 35 minutes to VT. Plus, there's a grocery store nearby for any essentials. Dave was excellent with communication, making our stay even more enjoyable. We loved the fire pit and were delighted by the deer visitors. Highly recommend!!!
