What you'll do

Times have changed but that hasn’t stopped the art scene in Mexico City from moving on. I will take all the safety measures marked by our local government, to protect you, protect the gallery staff and always follow the new rules that we are trying to adapt with this 5-year-old experience.

I will take you to visit a curated selection 5 to 6 galleries depending on what I believe must be seen during that month or week.

Important Note:

Since 2020 most of the galleries in Mexico work by appointment only with reduced groups so it's almost like a VIP experience for all in a good way.

I might at least 24 hours to plan ahead of the experience in order to make calls and plan what is best in your interest. Tell me what you like, Are you looking to buy art? I can guide you. Ask me anything.

Before we enter each gallery, I will give you key information about the artist and relevant art history background. I will then encourage you to explore the gallery, experience the artworks at your own pace, and ask questions.

You don't need to have any kind of art background to enjoy the experience. I will make sure you will leave the experience with a better understanding of contemporary art and how to approach it.

My name is Jorge and I'm a huge contemporary art aficionado and founder of CDMXARTE a platform that showcases the effervescent art scene formerly in Mexico City.

So every week I read, visit galleries, attend press conferencess so I have a mental agenda on where are the most important exhibits in the city.

My background consists in working for three years for the Director General for International Affairs of the National Council for Culture and the Arts, and currently for 2 art fairs.

I help people discover and access the most important art galleries making this experience fun even for people without any art background.

Let me know how you feel, what are your interests, what are you expecting because I know how excruciating art tours can be.

If you're a collector or interested in buying please let me know.

Where you'll be

We usually start in the heart of Colonia Roma.

Most of the galleries are in that neighbourhood, and San Miguel Chapultepec.

Because of the constant changes in the art scene in Mexico City and yes, after doing this for more than 5 years I enjoy the surprise factor and guests appreciate it too.

If there happens to be a distance that could absorb a lot of time between them we'll find a way to seize the day the best possible

Jorge is a willing guide ushering his guests to many galleries in town. His relaxed and conversational style was a good fit for my wandering artistic temperament as we ventured through many of the hidden art houses representing the contemporary art scene in town. This is likely not a tour you would be able to do without a guide and I recommend it.

Highly recommend meeting up with Jorge for an insider view of the art circuit in CDMX. He secured tickets for an art fair while I was in town that I otherwise wouldn't have known about, introduced me to gallerists and artists, and was even kind enough to let me tag along with him on more art adventures a few days later.

Must do in Mexico City! I recently spent 2 weeks in Mexico City and got to experience some of the “less traditional” tour options, and I must say the art tour with Jorge is a must do! My dad and I are super interested in art and we were blown away by Jorge’s thoughtful personalization, his ability to talk about the contemporary art scene in Mexico, as well as the awesome (often smaller) galleries he took us to. This is a must do for anyone who is interested in Art or learning more about the creative scene in Mexico City.

Jorge was great - he was very well connected with contemporary art in mexico, and even recommended places for us to see in Oaxaca! he knew many artists, gallery owners and we were introduced to all of them. The art was world-class, with an emphasis on Latin American artists. many of them have had exhibitions internationally, and they were all very gracious to us thanks to Jorge. He also made reservations for us in some amazing restaurants, both in design and in the quality of food.

Jorge was a knowledgeable host who tailors his experience to your tastes and interests. He knows about the galleries, shows, and exhibitions across Mexico City. I’d highly recommend, especially for a “survey course” in CDMX art world.

Jorge’s tour allowed us the opportunity to attend private art showings not available to the public. He did an excellent job of customizing his gallery selections according to our preferences (contemporary art in a unique architectural setting). To add to our experience, he encouraged the gallery assistants, art handlers, etc. to chime in with additional information about the artists and their work. He was flexible when we preferred to linger for a drink or move on to another gallery. As an added bonus, he pointed out off-the-beaten-path activities along the tour, such as a hidden speakeasy and a witches bar. He even helped us snag a reservation at an in-demand restaurant, and offered to stay in contact to help plan additional weekend activities. Jorge has a pleasant disposition that makes for an enjoyable tour, and we would happily hire him again. Gracias, Jorge! —Daniela, Linda, and Phil
