Old Quebec Upper Town walking tour

Québec, Canada

Experience hosted by Xavier

2 hours, Hosted in English and French

What you'll do

Discover the history of Quebec City and Canada as you walk with us in Old Quebec Upper Town, a UNESCO world heritage site. We will go in busy streets, off the beaten track and we will travel in time as far as the 1600s.

We'll tackle major themes such as colonization, wars between empires or the Quiet Revolution and Quebec separatism. We will talk about architecture too, and food naturally. Of course you can count on us to tell you a few anecdotes that make this experience so interesting.

You'll see the highlights of the Upper Town, such as the Château Frontenac, the cathedrals, the city hall, the Price building, the Parlement and at least one fancy gate. You'll see countless of old & beautiful residential buildings and many fascinating monuments.

Thanks to this introductory guided tour, you will have a better understanding of modern Quebec society, you will know how to orient yourself in Old Quebec and you will better appreciate this magnificent city of Quebec.

We'll start in front of the statue dedicated to pioneers and we'll end in front of the Parlement.

Check weather forecast and dress appropriately. We provide the tour rain or shine.

We're going to walk approximately 2km (1,24 miles), during 2h.

Passionate about history since I know how to read (very recently of course), it is always with great pleasure that I introduce Old Quebec to travelers as well as rooted locals.

I try to be informative and entertaining by using little stories to explain history.

I'm a professional guide since several years now, providing mostly private tours that I tailor live. I constantly learn thanks to conferences & books.

My colleagues working with me are as passionate as I am and are all licensed tour guides like me. Yes... it's all legit! ^^

We had an excellent time with Xavier. He was incredibly knowledgable and very personable. I appreciated how he was very aware of his guests and sought to make sure they were comfortable and enjoying the experience. We learnt so much on the history of our country, including up to date information. It was excellent!

Booked this tour as I wanted a refresher on the Canadian history that I’d forgotten since high-school. Xavier’s tour went above and beyond that. It was very informative and interesting. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a bit more about the history from the first settlers to Quebec City today!

This tour was fantastic! The guide was incredibly informative, and spoke not only about the history of Quebec City and the historical sites we were seeing but also talked about how it all tied together to make Quebec as we know it today. Xavier is very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. I recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get to know more about Quebec and it’s history!

It was like being shown around by a good friend with a deep passion for sharing the history and culture of Quebec. Well beyond a standard tour of “on this date, this happened in this old building.”

This was an amazing tour! We had an awesome time with Xavier- he was super knowledgeable, interesting, and nice. He crafted the tour around our different interests and shared interesting political topics that are relevant to the history and modern times. One of my favorite walking tours I’ve been on, we would definitely recommend!
