What you'll do

You'll meet up at Respek Coffee Shop before heading into the Magaliesberg. It is approx. a 600m walk to get to the entrance of the nature reserve. You'll do a 100m climb early on in the hike which will take about 20mins to get to the top. You'll be greeted by sweeping views of Pretoria to the north and south. Your guide will take you to a beautiful lookout spot where he will start brewing a reviving coffee in an espresso pot, whilst you can relax and savor the views, fresh air and coffee aromas.
The group will relax at the look-out spot for about 20-30mins until everyone is ready to explore the rest of the 8.6km circle route.
Chances are good that you'll greet a group of local horses or rooibokke.
There is a 5km short option which takes about 1.45 hours including the break. The 8.6km trail takes about 2.5hours.
After completing the hike you will be treated with a warm breakfast and coffee or juice from Respek's menu.

Whilst you wait for breakfast, you can check out awesome local art in Respek's quaint gallery. Respek hosts exhibitions of painting, sculpture and drawing throughout the year with the best of local artists.

The entire experience takes about 3-4 hours, depending on which trail the group chooses to walk.

Where you'll be

The hike starts at Respek Coffee Shop, located in Waverley, Pretoria, laying along the foot of the Magaliesberg, where we'll be heading. The coffee shop is rustic and colorful, showcasing interesting local art – We are hiking in a small section of the mountain range....The Magalies is estimated a 100 times older than Mount Everest and the range extends over 120km from Bronkhorstspruit Dam east of Tshwane to Rustenburg in the north-west.
